Jaytee67: FG may acquire shares in 9 rescued banks Written by Mohammed S. Shehu, with agency report [Minister of Finance]
Minister of Finance Federal Government may acquire shares in some of the nine troubled banks recently rescued with a N600 billion bailout in the last two months if the institutions fail to recapitalise or find buyers, but are deemed systemically important, the government said yesterdays.
The Finance Ministry said while trying to build confidence in the banking sector, it would aim for successful bank restructuring which would entail preserving the payment system, ensuring there are functional banks and making sure troubled assets are managed and disposed off appropriately.
“In the event that some of the affected banks are unable to recapitalise and successfully go through a merger and acquisition, the government may acquire shares in such banks, if they are deemed systemically important,” the ministry said in a statement made available to international news agency Reuters.
“Thereafter, government equity will be sold at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi told Reuters in August his preferred option for the first five banks rescued would be for them to be purchased by other financial institutions.
The Central Bank has injected nearly N600 billion in the nine banks and sacked their senior management for recklessly granting loans and lax governance that left them so undercapitalised they posed a systemic risk.
The bank executives are that of the Union Bank of Nigeria, Intercontinental Bank Plc, FinBank Plc, AfriBank Plc and Oceanic Bank International, Bank PHB Plc, Equatorial Trust Bank Plc and Spring Bank.
The Finance Ministry and the Central Bank have repeatedly said no Nigerian bank would be allowed to fail.
^^ the word God isnt supposed to be exclusive to any one group of people. However, for the sake of peace, I wonder if the Malaysian Christians shouldnt find another word in Arabic that means God, apart from Allah. Or maybe just use the Malaysian one. You dont find it strange that a court had to order the word can be used by Christians?
An additional evidence that Arabs and muslims are just trying to cover up the lies about allah is revealed from the fact that: mohammed's father's name is "Abdallah" meaning servant of AllahGuess what Allah was worshipped as a moon god . . . before the coming of mohammed hence all Arabs and muslims have just done is to re-brand "Allah" into a so called supreme deity . . . |

Alxmyr: Attackers firebombed three churches in the southeast Asian nation of Malaysia overnight, assaults that come amid widespread Muslim ire over a court ruling that allowed Christians to use the word Allah as a term for God.
Malaysian news reports said no casualties have been reported, and police have promised to step up security for churches and other places of worship.
But the acts stirred unease in the diverse society -- where 60 percent of the people are Muslim, 19 percent are Buddhist, 9 percent are Christian and 6 percent are Hindu.
"We regret the irresponsible actions of certain extremist elements for the recent spate of firebombs thrown into church premises. These actions display their immaturity and intolerance toward others within a multi-racial society," the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship of Malaysia said in a statement.
The violence comes as Muslims protest a recent court ruling that allowed a Catholic newspaper to use the word "Allah" for God. Muslims believe Allah, an Arabic word, should only be used by Muslims. A stay has been placed on the order on the grounds of national interest.
Muslims took to the streets Friday to protest the use of the word by non-Muslims, and authorities such as Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called for the matter to be resolved in court amicably and expressed hope the protests don't deteriorate.
"We should not raise the tension level in this country," he said Thursday, as quoted by Bernama, the Malaysian National News Agency.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia's head of state, on Friday called for calm and the spirit of unity, according to a Bernama report.
The three churches attacked were in the Kuala Lumpur region. They are the Metro Tabernacle Church, the Assumption Church and the Life Chapel. The attacks occurred late Thursday night and early Friday.
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/01/08/malaysia.churches.attacked/index.html We been saying that the Allah in the Quran is not the same person as the The Creator . . . in the bible. Here again is another evidence showing what some of us have been trying to say. . . No i don't support catholics either but the issue here is that Allah is simply an Arabian moon god that was brought to prominence by Mohammed . . . |

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Call Your Pastor 'daddy' And Your Own Daddy 'popsy'? by No2Atheism(m): 1:57pm On Jan 08, 2010 |
KunleOshob: No it doesn't affect the issue of our earthly father, if you read from the amplified version which i quoted, it specifically indicates that it is religious leaders being referred to and not our earthly fathers. Yes Amplified refers to Spiritual Teachers and Spiritual Fathers . . , . .and KJV refers to Spiritual Teachers and all Fathers. . . . hence we are faced with the problem of determining which of the two is the correct translation. - what makes the amplified version translation better than the KJV or vice versa. - that brings us back to the same problem of assuming "KunleOshob" is right by depending on the amplified bible translation "while others are wrong by depending on KJV bible translation" or vice versa. - does that not bring us to the same problem of relying on the translators telling the truth. - Hence this leaves us in the precarious situation of not knowing whether The Messiah "said all fathers" or just "spiritual father" since KJV and Amplified are not really saying the same thing . . .KJV is talking about the Set called " Father" . . Amplified is talking about the Subset called " Spiritual Father" - The concept of Father becomes more of a concern when one considers it from the perspective of the Lords prayer aka " Our Father who art in Heaven . . ." does that mean we are supposed to take the "Our Father" in the Lords prayer are as spiritual connotation or not. I say we take it as a spiritual connotation cus the same bible has qualified the statement with the location of that our Father "i.e. in Heaven (a spiritual place)" |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Call Your Pastor 'daddy' And Your Own Daddy 'popsy'? by No2Atheism(m): 1:22pm On Jan 08, 2010 |
KunleOshob: As usual you goof again if you read the scripture i quoted earlier properly in it's proper context, Jesus was clearly saying spiritual leaders should not be reverenced He also specifically instructed they should not be addressed as rabbi [r-abba] contrary to the assertions you made above.
Matthew 23:8-9: 8But you are not to be called rabbi (teacher), for you have one Teacher and you are all brothers. 9And do not call anyone [in the church] on earth father, for you have one Father, Who is in heaven.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
I specifically used the amplified version so you won't have any hiding place in your attempts to quote it out of context. In fact becos of your deliberate ignorance, i would post the whole passage here so people would be able to read it in it's proper context.
Matthew 23:1-9: Jesus Criticizes the Religious Leaders 1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. 5 “Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels. 6 And they love to sit at the head table at banquets and in the seats of honor in the synagogues. 7 They love to receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi.’ 8 “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters. 9 And don’t address anyone here on earth as ‘Father,’ for only God in heaven is your spiritual Father.
The above scriptures is still very much relevant to our religious leaders today. . . . very good points . . . 1. I never even knew we were not supposed to call anyone Rabbi . . . men we humans are so toast and messed up with our doctrines of men wherein we simply do something for its religious value without really obeying what the Messiah Himself said. 2. This means that in reality . . . : - If truth be told, we should never call our Pastors the name "Rabbis". - If truth be told, we should never call our Pastors "Father". - If truth be told, we are even pushing it a little far even with the concept of earthly "Father". KJV VersionMatthew Chapter 23 1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
3. This brings a very big question: - DO SOME PARTS OF THE BIBLE REFER TO SOME PEOPLE AS SPIRITUAL FATHER. - WHY DO PEOPLE STILL USE THE CONCEPT OF SPIRITUAL FATHER TODAY. |

naijaway: cap28, those are legitimate points you put up there but the point is that it is the world we live in. Everyman for himself but some people align better than others. Am sure if Nigeria respects itself and then tells the USA that look o, we are about mutual intrest eg resources for training here, resources for labs here, resources for forensics and so on those would have come to fruition and if a mean USA president is elected he can't really do much cuz he /she will be able to see that we matter. But as it is now and long before now; Nigeria has been shooting itself in the foot. And the reality is that some countries are damn serious about making the best in this life and worry about later life after they die. Not because nigeria is not serious about anything except what will go in their pockets after deals that are supposed to be for the people. Most percentage of senators try to get lots of eals for their communities and look forward for the results more than the cash to go into their pockets (remember i said most). All that noise national assembly is doing is heavy shakara just because people told you to sit up. I don't think USA will not give you the low down of events in a convincing manner if it was opposite as in someone from USA flying to nigeria. Moreover what they are telling us affects nigerians more than anyone in th USA. America also has resources and it includes military resources and economic resources as well as natural resources. In USA there are terrorist but each time they gave people the low down to the best of their knowledge not like nigeria's clueless investigations on several issues. No local government in the world that does not have their people in USA and still yet them they maintain. Keep waiting for them to fall off, that will be 2120. USA can be greedy but not like Nigeria; USA can be mean but still have humanitarian spirit unlike the friends people advocate for eg china, russia, and any nation in the middle east and north africa combined. If china gets hit or almost get hit, they will just wipe out Nigeria or nigerians in china; nothing like human rights there o. See mutallab has food three times a day and so on, in China or russia or even venuzela by now we would known his hang date. America is not heaven and can be commanding sometimes but will respect individuals even when they hate you unlike china and that is why china cannot and will not become a suprpower anytime soon. Nigeria government should define the value of Nigerians and not be this huge lekpa among other defined giants. You have to say I stand for Africa, or I stand for freedom eg america claims and somewhat true; or I stand for fairness etc. President taking more days off than Jesus when he went to fast for 40 days and 40 nights. And still, the guy doesn't want to quit. E bad o. Without panic, the Nigerian govt should put measure in place that protect our citizens first from inter fights, then protect foreigners etc. They cannot do america anything HO HA. Worst comes to worst, America seize everything Nigerian and give back honest people their stuffs and tell them not to send money back home because western union to both countries don't work; America will always be welcomed in the east and more than likely the west, Then the issue of divide and conquer will be in effect; Then oil deals will be given to them and other europeans while they are also leveraging ghana incase of incasities. Nigeria should wisen up and plan for the better by using her(Nigeria) clout to form an intelligence committee with other africans eg ECOMOG; these are times ecomog can be reformed to high tech. With the help of USA especially now, we can have some of the best intelligence in the world. We have to align with the USA to win sudan and curb China because China knows that all they are building around africa will decay or spoil in the next 30 to 40 yrs while many of what the ohers have done are still testaments. |
