Health66-year-old Man Discovers He Is Actually A WOMAN After Visit To Doctor. by NoContract(op): 10:41am On Oct 30, 2013
Doctors told him he suffered from two rare genetic conditions

Went to doctors with swollen stomach that turned out to be ovarian cyst

Hong Kong Medical Journal said patient will continue to live life as a man

A Chinese man who went to the doctors with a swollen stomach was told that he is actually a woman.

The 66-year-old, who even has a beard, had lived his entire life as a man but was told by doctors in Hong Kong that his enlarged abdomen was caused by an ovarian cyst.

Tests revealed the patient suffered two rare genetic disorders that had gone undiagnosed.

They showed the patient had Turner Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects about one in 2,000 baby girls, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which increases male hormones.

The Hong Kong Medical Journal, which published the information yesterday, said only six cases of people with both disorders had ever been reported in medical literature.

Turner Syndrome usually results from a problem with the chromosomes and can leave women infertile and shorter than normal.
Women with the syndrome are missing one or part of their second X chromosome.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia affects one in around 15,000 births and causes male characteristics to appear early or inappropriately.
The patient had grown up an orphan and stopped growing after puberty at the age of 10 and was just 4.5ft tall.

The patient also had no testes and a 'micro-penis', according to the report.

Girls with the disorder have normal female reproductive organs but can suffer with fertility problems.

Seven doctors, writing in the medical journal, said the Vietnam-born patient would continue to live as a man and may be treated with testosterone replacement.

They said: 'Were it not due to the huge ovarian cyst, his intriguing medical condition might never have been exposed', according to AFP.

There used to be this guy who would beg for money, just down the road from where I used to work. Not only did he beg, but he also played the guitar and sang, both very noisily and badly.

One day, after an extremely lucky win at the bookies, I saw him there doing his thing, and I gave him £100 as I felt sorry for him.

He never came back. I heard about a week later that he was found dead in the local park, having overdosed from heroin.

That is my only experience of philanthropy.
Nairaland GeneralAre You Being A Good Samaritan? by NoContract(op): 9:25am On Oct 13, 2013
There was a scholar of the law stood up to test Jesus and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?” He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
—Luke 10:25-37

The questions “what should be done to enter heaven” or “what can please God” in order to have and enjoy everlasting life are concerns of so many people not only during the time of our Lord Jesus but until today. Still, people need to know what should be done and be made to inherit everlasting life and be assured that one will be with God when the time comes. In the gospel, this is the concern of the scholar of the law who asked Jesus. And Jesus responded to the query and referred him to what the law is telling him. The man replied correctly as he narrated the law of Moses about what should be done. But the man was so insistent and wanted to justify himself and he made a follow- up question on “who is my neighbor?” How will I know my neighbor?

Then Jesus shared about the well-loved story of a good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan is only found in the Lucan gospel, and Jesus narrated what happened in that story. Who is my neighbor? Who was the neighbor of the one who was a victim of robbers, beaten and was left lying by the road almost half- dead. A priest and a teacher of the law both passed by but just ignored the poor man on the road. When a Samaritan passed by, he took him out of compassion. As first aid, he poured oil and wine and bandaged his wounds. The Samaritan carried the man and went to the nearby inn and watched on him. He paid for the bill and promised the innkeeper that he will return to pay for the balance and for the man.

Who is the neighbor to the robbers’ victim, Jesus asked the man. The man replied that man who treated him with mercy. Jesus then said to the man: “Go and do the same to others.”

Have we become a Good Samaritan to others? Have we extended our hands and hearts to others who are in dire need? Have we offered our services to those who need us the most?

To be a neighbor for others is to offer one’s love for others. The Good Samaritan is giving us a testimony and a life model. To love God is to love others, whoever they may be; friends or strangers.
Similarly, while I was on my way to Manila at the airport, I was approached by representatives from World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines and asked me about a few questions. Then I learned that they are volunteering for the campaigns initiated by WWF Philippines for particular campaigns and advocacies.

I also shared that I am also advocating to save Mother Earth. I commended them and congratulated them for the commitment and services they have been doing for Mother Earth. The concern of these volunteers for Mother Earth is a “neighborly” act for others. Loving one’s neighbor is loving mother Earth by bringing to our awareness the state of our world’s nature and ecological issues that are affecting the world and its population. Concern and care for the earth is loving God, for the whole creation is God’s masterpiece, for we are only creatures of God.

We can show our love to God and neighbor in various ways.

Let us pause, pray, reflect and ask ourselves:

Am I concerned with life eternal just like man in the gospel? Have I thought of my destination after spending my life on earth? Where will I go when I die?

How do I express my love to God? How do I manifest my love for my neighbor?

Just like in the gospel, am I willing to be a “Good Samaritan” to others?

Am I open to be the “Innkeeper” for others, open and willing to take care of those in need and trusting to people who come to my house?
Nairaland General50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind (and Can Potentially Change Your Life) by NoContract(op): 11:32pm On Oct 06, 2013
These questions have no right or wrong answers.

Because sometimes asking the right questions is the answer.

1 How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

2 Which is worse, failing or never trying?

3 If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

4 When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

5 What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

6 If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?

7 Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?

8 If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?

9 To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?

10 Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?

11 You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?

12 If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

13 Would you break the law to save a loved one?

14 Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?

15 What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

16 How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?

17 What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?

18 Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?

19 If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

20 Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?

21 Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?

22 Why are you, you?

23 Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?

24 Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?

25 What are you most grateful for?

26 Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?

27 Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?

28 Has your greatest fear ever come true?

29 Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?

30 What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?

31 At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?

32 If not now, then when?

33 If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?

34 Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?

35 Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?

36 Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?

37 If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?

38 Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?

39 Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?

40 When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?

41 If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?

42 Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?

43 What is the difference between being alive and truly living?

44 When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?

45 If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?

46 What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

47 When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?

48 What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?

49 In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?

50 Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?

Christianity EtcWhy Should Someone Go To Hell For Not Being A Christian? by NoContract(op):
As Christians, we're always taught that if you don't believe that Jesus died for our sins, we're going to be damned in Hell for eternity. Now, why is that fair? What if this was a perfectly nice person who gave to others and others cared for them? But because this person doesn't believe in Christ they should just be punished for their opinion? I understand it's one thing to turn your back on God, but I believe it's totally different when the person just has a different opinion.

Now, what if there's 3 people here...

Person A: Does not believe in the bible. While they don't hate on other religions, they just don't believe in a God (Atheists). This person is very kind.

Person B: Does not believe in the bible. But is a member of other religions. This person is very kind, honest and upright (Moslems, Buddhists, Traditionalists).

Person C: Is Christian. Goes to church every Sunday. But this person is generally not a good person (I know a sizable number of 'Christians' that beat their wives) They are not the nicest person to others.

So why should Person A & B go to Hell while Person C gets to go to Heaven? Is that really what we're supposed to believe?
