Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits on Wednesday invaded Government Science Secondary School in Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting an unknown number of staff members and students.

SaharaReporters gathered that the gunmen also killed one of the students.

The armed men were said to have invaded the school around 3 am.

“At about 3 am last night, bandits attacked Government Science College in Kagara, killing one and abducting an unknown number of students.

“Some staff members, their spouses, children were also abducted by the bandits,” a source told SaharaReporters.

The incident comes barely two months after gunmen invaded Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State, kidnapping over 300 students.

The abduction happened when President Muhammadu Buhari was visiting his home state of Katsina.

Suspected bandits have abducted some students of the Government Science School, Kagara in Niger State.

The bandits were dressed in military uniforms when they attacked the boarding school Tuesday night, reported PRNigeria, a news agency with close ties to Nigerian security agencies.

The bandits overpowered the security guard before whisking away the students.

PREMIUM TIMES could not confirm the exact number of students kidnapped, at the time of this report. However, some students are said to have escaped after the raid.

A headcount was being conducted in the school on Wednesday to ascertain the actual number of missing students, PRNigeria reported.

The news agency also reported that security agencies were able to detect the coordinates of the area the students were taken to, and have started tracing the bandits’ movement while security aircraft have been seen hovering in the air to track the location of the students.

A former senator, Shehu Sani, also said the principal of the school confirmed the abduction.

Mr Sani said the bandits abducted some students and staff of the school.

The Niger State police spokesperson, Abiodun Wasiu, did not respond to calls and messages seeking an official position on the kidnap.

The Nigerian Army has disbanded its legal team for the Lagos State Judicial Panel, effectively pulling out of the investigative hearing as more evidence resurfaces confirming that Nigerian soldiers shot at peaceful protesters last October.

S.N. Agwhe, a member of army counsel to the panel made the development known to the Judicial Panel on Saturday,

Agwhe had appeared before the panel on behalf of the army legal team, but revealed that the job of the army counsel finished on November 21.

“We do not have any further mandate to represent the army in any subsequent proceedings,” Agwhe told the panel.

He reminded the panel that Akinlolu Kehinde, head of the army legal team, had earlier submitted a memo notifying the panel of the decision.

The last hearing on January 23 was the third time in a row that the army and its counsel failed to appear before the panel.

The panel chairman Doris Okuwobi, a retired judge, however, warned that the army would not claim denial of fair hearing when the panel submits its findings to the government.

The Army’s withdrawal from the panel comes after Reddington Hospital testified to treating victims from the #EndSARS protest with bullet wounds on October 20, 21 and 22.

Petitioners had alleged that soldiers opened fire at peaceful protesters, killing and injuring several protesters, which led to the Army being summoned before the judicial panel of inquiry.

The Nigerian Army had reluctantly admitted being at the scene of the Lekki shootings after initial denials. still, it denied opening fire on the protesters, many of whom sat on the floor and were singing the national anthem.

The army however claims that officers were sent out to enforce a curfew that was imposed by the Lagos State Government but didn’t open fire on peaceful protesters.
