How are those U.S.A guys really wrong though ![]() Was it not the same soldiers that burnt BRT buses in Lagos ![]() Just pause for a sec and think of British soldiers burning down the London double decker buses won't that be likened to a scene from a zombie movie, were the military had recently been infected with the virus ![]() There might be hidden reasons for the refusal to sell arms, but we do need to clean up our acts. Why would a soldier tell a father to frog jump in front of his wife and kids Whatever happened to a simple arrest ![]() Naija is a jungle |
Only in naija ![]() A country bustling with clowns and jesters Here you have a man that ruled for 8 years... in fact, I can't even continue my rant, disgusting |
Na wa for the comments on this thread sha, smh ![]() See why Nigeria is referred to as a jungle The animals don't even want to be counted or identified. They say knowing the number of occupants in a house is not important at all. Nigerians sha |
Why doesn't the government just relinquish ownership of these universities then and let them run themselves I guess tuition may increase though.I just wish every state government would have a website that shows detailed expenditures for every single project executed in the state, from the tiny borehole to the roads and so on and so on. So the site would have, say, monthly allocation + IGR on one of the info columns and then you would have the expenses column that shows how the total monthly income is being spent. This would obviously have to include such minute details as, 2 million spent on government bedding and so on.. The people need to be able to track the money ![]() |
Always talking about oil. Oil, Oil, Oil!! Nnpc, oil, sharing formula, oil, foreign reserve, oil, bailout fund, oil, oil, oil, oil... Aren't there other natural resources in this country ![]() |
lexi28:I got it from amazon.co.uk. The problem is always bringing the stuff into naija. If you're there yourself or have someone coming, then that's a really cool site for battery savers (desulphators), power meters and stuff. There are naija and uk cargo people that do freight though, but sometimes, their minimum charge may be like 50 pounds if you don't have much to ship. |
richmon74:That's what I'm planning on doing when I'm free and the gen is on, I'll try the battery connection with and without the washers, then run the test again and top up all that lost power asap. |
Saipro:Nah, it's a 24V system, so the current at 800 watts should be like approx 40A. Yeah, the cables would be way too small if it was a 12V system. I had to measure the diameter with a tape, to try to guess the gauge of the wire minus insulation, and it checked out on the AWG chart. Anywho, I'm gonna try to loosen the batteries up and reconnect them without the washers and test when I'm less busy. The AC I'm talking about has a Variable Frequency Drive, I think, so it doesn't need more than 800 watts to start up as the compressor speed is stepped. So I figure it'll be pretty much the same load as the cooker, though I still have to buy it first and confirm this info. |
Amazo:Why don't they, the people in government, slash their pay then ![]() Seriously, I heard senators earn as much as Obama, if that is true, what do you have to say about it ![]() How come the government can also disproportionately tax and fine citizens, but can't guarantee a greater wage Let me give you an example here. Say I get a traffic ticket in Lagos, officially, I'd be required to pay about NGN30,000 to Lagos Government. That is over 100% of a minimum wage earners salary ![]() Also, why does the government need a very high workforce anyways I'm all for slim, trim government that actually generates income for itself efficiently and thus is able to pay workers based on the income each worker would have generated, which should not be less than X 10 per individual worker. Another example here, imagine the LASMA operatives in Victoria Island are given a mandate to bring in "n" number of offenders every week. So you properly equip them (invest in them, which should pay off), give them cars, cameras in cars (for proof of offence), walkie talkies... and have them fulfill their set target or get fired, demoted, or suspended. That way, each official is in fact generating revenue to the government, thus paying his own salary efficiently. The government just needs to provided infrastructure for the private sector to flourish, as that should be the major employer of labor. |
Saipro:lol, @ fire extinguisher ![]() Nope, I didn't plug the cooker directly to the inverter, just a room wall socket wired into the distribution panel which the inverter supplies. However, I did plug the cooker into a kilowatt meter and the reading was about 798 watts, approx 800 watts. Only other load on at the time, was a single 11 watt energy saver bulb. Thing is, the overload alarm didn't even go off, so it must have registered that the power being consumed was less that its rating, yet the wires were still hot in all trials and smelt burnt in like 2 out of maybe 5 trials. This was just a test for me in order to see if I can run that LG cool gen inverter AC comfortably, but typically, I run max about 400 watts on that inverter, with maybe 1000 watts for like 10 secs when the fridge is starting with other loads, so I've never really had cause to monitor it. I've already started a savings plan to get a larger inverter in the next few months, for peace of mind. I believe a pre-wired larger inverter at 24v would at least come with wires capable of handling 70% of their rating without the wires getting too hot (maybe just warm). Or better still, a 48V system (less current), but those are a bit more expensive. Funny thing is, I already bought my mppt tracer charge controller, remote monitor, fuses... and was now saving for panels, before I realized a bigger inverter should come first it's really always good to think far ahead in the RE world so your not just buying mismatched systems ![]() |
richmon74:Thanks, I'll def. hit you up when I'm ready to upgrade both the inverter and batteries. You're right, I installed the battery with a washer next to the terminal on the side were the bolt is. On the other side were the wire terminal is, the washer is between the wire terminal and the screw head, so I think that one is all good. I'll take it apart removing the washer in direct contact with the terminal and try again. earthrealm:Funny enough, I don't think any connection is loose. Anywho, I'm just gonna put a larger inverter and 4 batteries on my budget for the next few months. That way, I'll have the added capacity I'll need, even if I may only max out once in a while. |
richmon74:Thanks dude! I will definitely check out the install. I actually did it myself and didn't use a washer, just a nut to tighten the connection between the battery terminal and the cable ring terminal. An electrician recently worked on something in that room and had to disconnect and reconnect the batteries, so I'll check. Though the hottest part of the wire, from my observation, was the negative part coming out of the inverter. That wire was supa dupa hot!!! If I had my way, I'd have installed 2 gauge wire in there, but since it's pre-wired, I'd have to open it up, which is a no no. I've seen you use some PRAG inverters in your install, how are they working out for you? I know the 4kva 24V&48V PRAG don't come pre-wired, so you can basically do wire sizing yourself to get the correct AWG for the system. I can't get specs of the wire the PRAG 2.5kva uses, but I wonder if it looks safe (pic attached). it seems they are joining two wires together to up the amp carrying capacity.
|
earthrealm:Isn't this cutting it a bit too close? As per load/capacity being high, almost close to 1. I guess either luminous is a good brand or its what richmond said about improper connections. I'm planning to buy the LG ac that says it can start with 0.9kva, so I just wanted to test my system with a similar load and it failed. I may upgrade to 48V which would mean less current running through the wires. |
abunafiu:Thanks, to be honest, I'm thinking of saving up to get the sukam 3.5 and 4 batteries so I can rest easy. |
stanvesco:I guess its all relative to income. So one would need about 8billion naira to afford a 40mil ride. In terms of amenities, you may be right, though some more expensive items are indeed worth the price tag, some are not. |
Hey house!!! Please has anyone tried the PRAG 2.5Kva 24V inverter? I have a 1.4Kva sukam that came pre-wired (i.e, the wires for the batrery were already attached to it), so i figured I'd test the rating to see just how safe those wires are in terms of current handlng. So i plugged in an 800watt pressure cooker to the inverter circuit and within minutes, I could smell burnt wire, even though no overload alarm went off. I switched the unit off and felt the wire, which was blistering hot. Obviously, this cant be safe for long term use, as it may start a fire. I just need info from anyone who's used the prag 24v 2.5kva inverter, to see if they've loaded at least 1300watts on it without the wires melting, since it also comes prewired for battery connection. |
sagr:Hehe, FRSC guy be lIke: "Park! Baby o pull over, Reverse! Baby o pull over, Show me your partuculars baby o pull over Inner light, baby o pulk over" ![]() |
tundebabzy:I bought my power meter from amazon.co.uk. I don't regret the purchase at all, they're like 20 pounds or so. |
Konnektions146:Nice, where'd you get them from? |
Can't wait for more cheddar to try out that 1hp LG inverterv ac that claims to start with 0.9kva That would mean I can run it with my 1.5kva sukam, before I upgrade to the 3.5 to have more appliance space. Happy days ahead, hopefully ![]() |
Bulbs are getting more and more efficient. Just saw a 6.5 watt led that should equate to a 40 watts incandescent bulb. Not bad at all. They're expensive though, like NGN1,800 ![]() Guess one has to pay more upfront going the green way. |
If one had enough money, I'd get the tesla s electric car and power it with solar panels on my roof. That way, I'd have power for my home and a charged car capable of about 300 miles, not bad at all. You just have to figure out a way to be independent from government, but at the same time, we must demand for our rights though. It's ridiculous to still not have petrol constantly being sold at stations. I really don't understand what is happening at this point, if we have healthy reserves for days, then no day should go pass without petrol being distributed, unless importation stops for the amount of days equaling the reserve capacity in days (which is about 29 days). Something isn't right, a big shame to the "giant" of Africa |
shithapuns:I got one called battery saver off amazon, for a 24V system. It works very well for me. Before, my batteries would fail as soon as mains supply went away, but now, they are able to hold charge and discharge in like 4-5 hours so far on a continuous 200watt load. Would definitely recommend having one for both new and fairly used batteries. Your battery must be recoverable though. |
Even the best plans may not work without discipline. I hope there is a plan for discipline as well. There has to be a way of ensuring at least a 70% compliance with road rules. Like some people said, why would danfo consistently stop in the middle of the road in view of lasma? Those lasma guys would need to either work or get fired. Also, give them enough cars/bikes. Its always sad seeing them chase after offenders on foot, they arent cheetahs ![]() |
Before you even start analyzing this, first ask yourself. Why would a committee of APC, "opposition peeps", be sent out on a probe mission, without thinking that there'd be even a hint of prejudice? Isn't there an independent financial professional organization, whether domestic or international, that can perform a better audit? It's just like the U.S government. sending democratic/republican reps to audit an individual, when taxes are off, instead of sending reps from the IRS ![]() It's just absurd! |
dustydee:Well I hope they get it appealed then, I'm sure smart lawyers will come to their aid. |
This is very unacceptable. I know laws can vary from state to state, but laws involving this magnitude of consequence, i.e, death, should be consistent across states. Please lawyers need to take this one up. I thought the Nigerian constitution, which should reign supreme guarantees "Right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion", "Right to freedom of expression and the press", Right to freedom from discrimination"... What about this section: 39. (1) Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference. With all these, the government of that state can't now say that, one's opinion, be it deem blasphemous or not, can now be punished with even the most grave of punishments; a death sentence. It just doesn't add up. |
Another cool device (don't know if it's been mentioned already in one of the many pages), is a power meter to tell what power individual devices in your household draw. https://energenie4u.co.uk/res/images/products/large/ENER007_lifestyle.jpg I hooked my 80 watts fridge into this and was shocked at the current surge of the small fridge to over 500 watts. Obviously I knew there'd be surge current with the fridge, but I was thinking more like 300 or so ![]() With accurate measurements of loads, proper planning and load shedding can be done to maximize battery life among other things. |
Hey guys, so much cool tech worth researching, in order to reap the ultimate rewards in your solar setups. For instance, have you guys heard of the new LG INVERTER-V AIR CONDITIONER? It's being touted to have a much lower surge power than traditional air conditioners. Here's an excerpt from an article regarding the LG AC, "In accordance with LG, for the normal mode 1HP AC needs 1.5 KVA generator", http://www.bellanaija.com/2014/07/23/lg-electronics-unveils-new-air-conditioner-that-works-with-small-capacity-generators/. I think this is really cool if true. So no longer does one have to be barred from using air conditioners with your 2kw and above inverters. This is the kind of tech I've been waiting for before I plunge into larger wattage inverter setups. Obviously, it would be nice to get a hold of one to see just how much surge current is actually being consumed by the device. Just imagine though for a sec that this is true. That means no more ac surge currents to worry about during inverter sizing, where an 800 watt air conditioner might consume about 6000 watts of power for a short time just to get the compressor going. Anywho, thought I'd share to those who are already generating upwards of 1000watts solar power. It would be nice to get an intelligent air conditioner like this where you could really reap the benefits of a hot day, lol. |
Got a full tank today, if I see tomorrow, I'm filling kegs ![]() |
Another launch, for another power spaceship ![]() Dem don dey launch since b4 I was born sef ![]() Every head of state launching and launching, you go think say by now, d ship for don already pafuka due to over launching. Sad thing be say, d ship no even gree leave ground after all these launches ![]() So make una keep launching ooo, just wake me when d ship commot ground please, just not to witness d launches abi na lunchun, hian ![]() |
To all solar enthusiasts in the house, I just found my new best friend, a BATTERY DESULPHATOR. I got one off of Amazon and it's doing wonders for my batteries. I'd say it's a good investment getting one to keep your batteries healthy, so no crystallization occurs. They're pretty cheap too and easy to hook up. |
