The Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Friday dismissed the speculation of astalemate in the admission of fresh students into universities across the country.Oloyede, who spoke during an interview with journalists shortly after a visit to the zonal office of the board in Benin, the Edo State capital, insisted that all universities have been barred from conducting written examinations before admitting students. He also denied the alleged imposition of prospective students on universities, adding that issues over the admission of fresh students into tertiary institutions had been resolved after due consultations with all stakeholders.Oloyede said: “I know many of you are bothered and you want to hear from me about the admission.“There is no stalemate.“After due consultation with the Senate, House of Representatives, because we havebeen invited and they are worried, and after due consultation with all the regulatory agencies: National Board for Technical Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education, National Universities Commission and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board itself, we have resolved the matter totally.“There is no ambiguity of what will happen.“As it has been announced by the Minister for Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, therewill be no written examination, no written Post-UTME examination by any institution.”The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, however, noted that the managements of the universities were free to determine their respective admission policies in line with the directive of the Federal Executive Council.Oloyede, who is also the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said:“Every other thing remains as it used to be because the authority, autonomy and independence of the academic boards of the Senate of the respective institutions remain sacrosanct.”ByThe Eagle OnlineOnSep 4, 2017

President Muhammad Buhari may resign if he does not recover from his ailment soon, sources have reported.Agitation for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation continues to deepen as more groups join the Buhari Must Resume Or Resignmantra. He has been out of the country on medical vacation for over 80 days, the longest by any former Nigeria president. His ailment remains a mystery as his aides seem to be in the dark too.His vice, Yemi Osinbajo, has been piloting the affairs of the country in acting capacity since he left.A Presidency source has however, disclosed that President Muhammad Buhari will resign if he does not recover from his ailment soon. The source said, “The president is not desperate to cling on to power if his health cannot carry him. I can tell you authoritatively that he has given a timeline that if he doesn’t recover fully on a specific date, he will file in his resignation letter and if you know PresidentBuhari very well, he meant what he said.“That is why Nigerians who love the president and his efforts in restoring Nigeria’s lost glory should continue to pray for his quick recovery. It will be to our disservice if he dies as some people are wishing him”, he said.Another source said that before the President embarked on his May trip to the United Kingdom, he had wanted to dispatch a resignation letter to the National Assembly buta retired general from Taraba state prevailed on him not to do so.Will President Buhari make history by becoming the first sitting president to voluntarily resign?

A very good looking man had half his face destroyed by a melon-size cancerous tumour. A surgeon has now carried out reconstructive surgery on his face with skin taken from his thighs, and though his face is not back to normal, it is now more presentable and easier to look at.Tim McGrath, 38, encountered what doctors called the "worse case scenario" after an operation to remove his Synovial Sarcoma tumour left him unable to eat or drink. For more than a year after the rare soft-tissue cancer was removed, Tim was left with exposed flesh on half of his face. Tim, from Michigan, USA, said he wasleft heartbroken to see half of his face was taken away following the surgery to remove the tumour. But a genius doctor has come to his aid by giving him a terminator-style face transplant. Doctor Kongkrit Chaiyasate had heard about Tim's plight and agreed to help him by reconstructing his facewith skin from his leg and forearm. The reconstruction on his face will continue in 2018.Tim said Dr. Chaiyasate gave him hope again after enduring more than one year of awkward stares and discomfort."I was covered in scars from previous surgeries which limited my options for reconstruction but we went ahead and the outcome has been incredible," Tim said. "He reconstructed my face using skin and muscle from my left leg, left forearm, and a flap from my forehead, and skin graphs were used to help the healing process. I currently can't drink liquid, eat through my mouth,or pronounce certain words, however, my quality of life has improved massively. There are people who stare at me, mostly children who don't understand, but I would hope that others look past what they can see."My journey has been long and mostly inconceivable to most, but I have an amazing support group around me and I draw strength from them daily. I have been through something horrific, but if what I've gone through can inspire people to live their lives with gratitude for the things they take for granted then it makes what I've gone through all worth it."Tim was first diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma inFebruary 2014 after complaining of severe jaw pain. An MRI revealed an egg-sized tumour. Tim refused surgery and spent the following 18 months seeking none surgical alternatives. Sadly, the type of cancer he had is resistant to many things, including chemotherapy, and the tumour only grew bigger till it got to the size of a melon. He recalled: "At the end of May 2015 the tumour doubled in size and I had to have a tracheotomy fitted to enable me to breathe and a feeding tube so I could eat, because the tumour had invaded the space in my mouth. Heavy doses of radiation caused the tumour to start dying and shrink and parts started to fall off. Eventually, I got my mouthback and I could eat very thin pieces of food. After the tumour shrank and the radiation treatment was over I had to wait a few weeks before they could remove the remaining mass."In October 2015, Tim was admitted to hospital where he remained for almost seven weeks following the initial 30-hour operation to remove and then reconstruct his face. He was shocked when he woke from surgery to find half his face gone. He became depressed, suffered numerous infection, and nearly gave up so many times until the top surgeon came to his aid.The doctor wants him to take a year off to relax and gain his strength back while the swelling from the surgery goes down. There will be another next winter which will further help his speech and will give him the ability to eat and drink again.Tim beforethe tumor

The secret state of North Korea on Monday launched its first successful ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile test) which US officials say is a new kind of missile that had a range of about 5,500 kilometers (3,400 miles), capable of hitting Alaska in the United States .It was supreme leader, Kim Jong-Un's first successful intercontinental missile launch, and it psychologically shook leaders on the other side of the pacific, not least U.S president, Donald Trump- and it brings to the fore the fact that in theory, Pyongyang could soon hit the US with a nuclear-capable missile.Trump has now come out to publicly condemn North Korea, and says he will do everything possible to halt their nuclear missile plans'It's a shame they're behaving this way -- they're behaving in a very, very dangerous manner and something will have to be done about it," Trump said in a news conference on Thursday with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw, Poland. When asked about military action on North Korea,Trump said he had some 'pretty severe things' against Kim's nation."As far as North Korea is concerned, I don't know, we will see what happens,""I have some pretty severe things that we are thinking about. That doesn't mean we are going to do it. I don't draw red lines."On Wednesday, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, during an emergency UN Security Council meeting called North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile launch test a"clear and sharp military escalation" and also warned countries like China supporting North Korea with trade to desist or face huge problems with the US.'There are countries that are allowing, even encouraging, trade with North Korea in violation of UN Security Council resolutions," Haley said."Such countries would also like to continue their trade arrangements with the United States. That'snot going to happen. Much of the burden of enforcing UN sanctions rests with China," she said."We will work with China ... but we will not repeat the inadequate approaches of the past that have brought us to this dark day."'The US is prepared to use the full range of our capabilities to defend ourselves and our allies," Haley said. "One of our capabilities lies with our considerable military forces. We will use them if we must, but we prefer not to have to go in that direction."Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, who leads U.S troops in South Korea performed a military drill after North Korea's missile launch and said in a statement Wednesday that the only thing stopping war with North Korea was "self restraint.""Despite North Korea's repeated provocation the ROK-US alliance is maintaining patience and self restraint," Brooks said in a joint statement with South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen.Lee Sun Jin."As the combined live fire (drill) demonstrated, we may make resolute decisions any time, if the Alliance Commanders in Chief order. Whoever thinks differently is making a serious misjudgment."
