When you meet a Hausa/Fulani person and you ask the person where they are from the first thing they will tell you is that they are from the North never first mentioning their state. If igbo was accommodating just like Hausa it would have been a lingual fraca in the whole old Eastern region of Nigeria made of SE and SS. It doesn't mean the minorities won't speak and know their dialect but just like how Hausa is the lingual franca in the North West and North East and even some parts of North Central like plateau, nasarawa speak Hausa as lingual franca but it doesn't mean the minorities there don't know and speak their own dialect.
