Melian: Cont'd.
So,we should be carerul When you come to settle on my land and say you must represent me in the Nigerian senate or the house of representatives,or the Lagos State House of Assembly taking away from me my aboriginal right to have my kith, kindred and blood represent me,while back home you are being represented in the senate and House of Reps, when you insist on becoming a commisioner in my state or a deputy governor,or a local government chairman when you try to govern me in my own land as Dr Nnamdi Azikwe once tried to do,all because I was generous to let you become in my land what you couldn't become in your land, simply because you believe you have the numbers,I will tell you that is greed and unnatural irrespective of the backing of the law you may think you have.
Think, for example, about an igbo becoming the chairman of Lagos island local government and arrogating to himself the right under the laws of Nigeria and of Lagos state to issue instructions to the oba of Lagos about how the kabiyesi should conduct himself and govern his people. What will this breed? That is what has been happening in countries from where the igbos are being sent back home.It happened once in the North as Ahmadu Bello said in 1952.And seriously speaking,I believe this is why the North rejected Atiku Abubakar.
The igbos should reflect on this..."Why does everyone tend to (hate )us?"
JIMI AGBAJE/AFENIFERE The igbos should be wary of JIMI AGBAJE and AFENIFERE.They are politicians who are looking for ethnic heads to break coconuts on.
The igbos are hardworking and resourceful and should try to overcome ethnic politics as the yorubas have done. They should learn from immigrants from other lands worldwide. The Indians do not trouble their hosts or try to take over their lands. They makw their money quietly and take it back home to develop their own land. That is why India has bwen able to lift herself from poverty. In contrast, the igbos do not develop their own lands. All thwy do is largely to make money from abroad through whichever or whatever means and buy up property which other people have built and then claim they own the land without remembering that they can never hold aboriginal rights to the land in their hands whenever the chips come down.
Meanwhile, their land back home is languid, crying and shouting for investment and development and they begin to talk about marginalisation.Did they not flower and fruit under Obasanjo and Jonathan's administrations? What happened to igbo land in those 16 years that they were not marginalised? What happened to yoruba land in those 16 years that the yorubas were marginalised that yoruba land still continued to be a honey pot for the igbo? I would go anyday with chief Emeka Anyaoku who looks at the world with universal spectacles.
Succeeding Lagos government have beautifully held the ethnic balance in Lagos and prevented ethnic disturbances.Igbos should stop saying they own Lagos or that they built Lagos or that Lagos is a "no man's land" only a bastard yorubaman will not feel affronted by such statements. And in spiritual terms, the man or woman who cannot defend his land is not fit to live.Wasn't this the failure of the sons of the incas?
It is good news that the leaders of the igbos and other nationalities in Nigeria have met with the traditional leaders of the yorubas in Okota and Oshodi areas to avert a backlash in respect of last Saturday's events. As I said earlier,Agbaje and Afenifere are outside the mainstream of yoruba politics They are trying to take control of it.And they have the right to so aspire, being yorubas. What is objectionable to the mainstream yoruba is their attempt to knock the heads of the igbo against the head of the mainstream yorubas. They remind the yorubas of a similar affront by Afonja, the yoruba army commander in Ilorin who was sent there by the Alaafin of Oyo to stop jihadist expansion.Afonja betrayed the Alaafin and invited the jihadists to defend its betrayal.
They did and Afonja triumphed momentarily only to be killed afterwards by the jihadists who took over the land. The perception in Yorubaland today is that the igbo in Lagos especially are the modern jihadists and that Agbaje and Afenifere are the modern Afonjas. This is the underlying perception which ,in my opinion, triggered the surface reaction in Okota last Saturday. The yorubas remain an accomodating people. But they never fail to rise in their defence when they have to,as they did in the 1950s in respect of Dr Azikwe's blatant attempt to usurp their land and as they also did at Ore during the civil war.
.....John Olufemi Kusa I keep saying it that until we, the younger ones refuse to sell write ups and discussions targeted at aiding our disunity as a people under the same country, development in Nigeria will continue to remain a mirage. the writer of this piece is a pointer and an unrepentant proponent of ethnic bigotry which he has not been able to hide. his objectivity to the issues raised has remained questionable but any serious person should be able to consult history materials for the accurate story behind his lame tales. No one can rewrite history. All efforts put by Azikiwe in the 50s&60s was targeted towards replacing the colonial constitution, Macpherson's precisely with a new constitution that would pave way and create an atmosphere for Nigeria's independence and not on entrenching himself to be premiere of Western region as alleged by the writer. Azikiwe himself had written an open letter to Awolowo shortly after the Lagos election, seeking to collaborate with him and his Action Group party to work for the actualisation of Zik's common interest targeted at delivering independence for the whole country-Nigeria. |

Yet, we keep chanting 'one Nigeria' when from all indications through our actions, we don't need one Nigeria. the only way to solve this problem is by having the right set of people in leadership positions, who will carry every tribe along evenly irrespective of their tribal affiliations but that is going to be difficult because even the young ones have become main purveyors of hate speeches against tribes. I don't see how Emma Powerful's statement was directed at Yorubas or Lagos.
He said:
THE ATTACKERS MIGHT BE FULANIS ........,
So where in his statement did he threaten Yorubas or the OPC? All I could deduce from this is that somebody is trying hard to please and show loyalty to the FULANIS but fails to understand that the heat will be too much if the IPOB leave their perceived rival to face OPC themselves.
I don't know when very many Yorubas will stop this sycophantic attitudes. Who is the OPC man trying to defend now? The FULANIS? mtchew....... |

Melian: I couldn't stab you or anyone naaa but I get your point and you're absolutely correct. Let me tell you this and I'm sure you won't believe it.
There's a house directly opposite mine, there are no occupants in it save for thorns and bushes. There's this certain igbo woman who comes around every weekend with her companion to cut lemon grass. I normally see them cut the root of the grass and put in bundles of sacks. So, one day, some omo onile guys were passing by, they saw them and one of them said "madam you go pay o. Shebi that thing wey you dey cut you wan sell am". I felt they were merely teasing so I smiled it away.
The following weekend, this woman with her male companion came as usual to cut grass. Now it was only one of the omo onile guys that came by. I saw him approach them. This time he was harassing them, tactically demanding money. Telling them that they were invading private property bla bla. Gosh I was mad. I quickly went into my room to cover up.
My mum on seeing I was fully dressed asked where I was heading to. I told her I was going to confront that man cos what he was doing was absolutely disgusting. My mum told me to mind my business that she doesn't want trouble. Chai the thing pained me as I couldn't do anything for them. The fact that they were older people hurt me the more. Wahalli If my.mum wasn't at home I would have risked everything to defend them.
After a while, the guy left. Shortly after, a neighbor from the next compound came out and told them not to mind the guy jare.
So you see, normally I hate injustice. However it doesn't change how I perceive ibos generally. the way you perceive IGBOS generally is a product of the information you've heard from people about IGBOS, thus your attitude towards everything that concerns them. Before I came to Ibadan, I had heard so many things about Yorubas of which till today, I am yet to have such experience from a Yoruba. But one thing I also found out was that some politicians contribute towards the bad impressions tribes have over themselves. when they want to contest a position with people from a different tribe, they sell all sorts of despicable and derogatory things about their opponent's tribe which most often are not provable but just to discredit their opponents and curry favour from their own people. but the citizens will not be able to see such speeches as politically motivated. |

Melian: This is the video I told you I watched last night. Won't you agree this man is mad? NSK4U Actually I've not seen the video but I have heard about his comments on it....... Meanwhile, I don't know the reason behind his comments. but one thing I'm sure of is that somebody might have created an action that precipitated his unguarded and inciting reaction in such manner. this is because people can say beyond what they can actually do when pushed by others. an instance was what happened last night when we were talking, I know that it was due to some expressions I used against your tribe that provoked you beyond words of which if I were within your reach, u could even stab me. So that is how it is with everyone because we all have feelings and very few can control their emotions when provoked. I'm not saying this to exonerate him from blame or expunge his comments but to insist that something caused it and it's only by we, who are not provoked like him to find the whole gist instead of drumming for and fanning the embers of war that could consume even the innocent ones, that our society can be free to grow |

DesChyko: Apex Igbo Organization? I laugh. Blind ignorance doth mislead thee. An apex organization that doesn't even hold sway over all her people..what then makes it 'apex'? Journalists should spend more time studying igbo political culture to understand that all man is a king unto himself. Even IPOB that has far more grassroot political influence than Ohaneze still can't make all Igbos do their bidding. The Ohaneze understood their mistake when they allegedly endorsed Buhari earlier and got severe backlash from Igbos. So, they simply did the wish of the people; became Atikulated. IGBOS have always taken a direction unlike the West that bends when they are after eating the crumbs falling from the table. since the birth of PDP in Nigeria, IGBOS have always identified with the party no matter what. Since the birth of Christianity in Nigeria, IGBOS have predominantly remained Christians, what more do you need to understand that IGBOS ARE ONE in decision making. the fact that we don't have such kings or rulers like Emirs and Obas that are common in other tribes doesn't mean we don't have leaders and elders whom we swallow their words when they talk and we have remained steadfast with it. |

In a nutshell, in Nigeria's history, you, Abiola and your entire genealogy were robbed of the mandate that was delivered to your people by Nigerians during Gen. So because you perceive Hausas to be the most brutal, you and your people will rather die as slaves than stand up to them? For your information, Hausas merged with Yorubas and even some foreign powers to fight the Igbo Biafra in the 60s, so if they were the most brutal, they should have faced Igbos alone, and I can tell you that there wouldn't have been any existing tribe like Hausa.
