Religion / Re: How Did You Become An Atheist by NubianQ(f): 12:31am On Nov 19, 2010
petphunt:

Your statement is nebulous. If I do not believe what you believe, it obvious that I would not have the same opinion as you do of me. What is logical to you would be illogical me. I am a Deist and do believe in God but my belief is that God created the world and abandoned it. Consequently, God does not care about what goes on in our world. This is why God does not intervene as you believe in the affairs of humans. Why do you think  we have so much hate, diseases, natural disasters etc. If God is a perfect God, there cannot be imperfection under his watch. The claims of religious people to the atheist is therefore balderdash. Apparently we see with different lenses but I am not an iconoclast so I do not condemn other people's beliefs. I hope all religionists would accept the fact that there are other beliefs at variance with theirs. After all we are all believers. The atheist believes there is no God and the theist believes there is God.

wow, thats very interesting, i am holding my dictionary and checking oh, enlightening views though, grin grin grin grin

And what exactly did you say that was new or original. That the Nigerian government or system owes you anything? Just die these self-indulgent left wing arguments as they are not relevant to a  developing country like Nigeria.
But seriously must you twist every thread you participate in into a conspiracy -they are all out to get us - rant??
Is that not a symptom of incipient paranoia??

@Tensor777

To  be honest ignoring the problem with the country wont solve it. like Nigerians, other nationals have issues with their countries too, the problem with Nigeria is that we fail to see that we need to improve. yes we are developing but alot of people are being left behind,

you dont have to go into image bashing, honestly,

you have to disgree on some things but i agree with Cap28,  i am his biggest fan grin grin grin grin grin SHOOT ME lol

I have met a few Atheists in my life time and i find them very interesting to listen to.

I am not the best christian in the world, i am more of a christian who is curious about everything from the practice of varierty of religions to non-religious people.

I once read a book on other religions, cults and alternative living and it changed the way i thought about people and the world in general

The decison to be religious is down to to an individual.

vivaladiva:

yeah its absolute nonsense---so some white person speaks yoruba---so bleep wat----i mean there are people that can speak more than three languages---is yoruba not a language that can be learnt, by any body from any race, if they want to---i beg make una waka----na silly things dey alway impress ignorant fools-----so if u see a nigerian that can speak mandarin---it means they have had a brain transplant from a chineese---i beg fu-ck off
another excuse to say---eh all those people that live abroad that their children cant speak their parents native language---r just trying to showoff or look down on their culture-----aproko people----my child will def not be able to speak the two nigerian languages that i can speak

because i cant even speak my parents language very well---so the less i use it----the less proficient i become

the small yoruba that i learnt in lagos and cld speak better than my parents language---even that has detiriorated cos i dont speak it that often

so wats the big--f-u-cking deal----that dont mean she wont learn to speak french or spanish because it wld be more relevant in her life, not one dead language that only 15 people speak

I Like that, sooo what, she can speak yoruba, good for her but its not a big deal!

@Viva i got ya back mate

ragdollz:

Gosh, you're back with your drivel?!?
It's obvious someone is high on some skank, lol.
Ol' girl, it's a shame but you sound like you hold no VALUE for things of worth and importance. It's no big deal to see a Nigerian speaking French, English, Spanish or even Mandarin undecided tongue. But allow us to be impressed when a WHITE person manages to speak an AFRICAN LANGUAGE with such dedication, interest and skill. We all know that African languages and esp Yoruba have very strong, difficult dialects that would be harder for a white tongue than it would be for a black person to learn a foreign language. In fact, I'm sure a Mandarin guy would be shocked and impressed if he heard a Nigerian speak his language with such dexterity.

In short, you are an empty barrel, with no sense of self-worth, so piss off this thread bc we only celebrate achievers here, not losers like you. Haba! Na by force to comment?! You could have made your opinion without insulting anyone, but you obviously don't have the home training for that!

"because i cant even speak my parents language very well---so the less i use it----the less proficient i become"

Aaah, no wonder!!! Lol, that's why you are so jealous and bitter to see a white girl speak our local language so well. Eeyah, pele, you can still catch up. Ode.

cool temper, grin grin grin grin To be honest i dont see it as a massive deal. i think you and viva should both agree on something instead of arguing, cool cool cool cool cool

cap28:

You see the problem i have with people like you is that you have a warped sense of reasoning, i presented a situation of a vulnerable person in a country like nigeria and your response was to attack and denigrate this person.  It did not occur to you that this person was a mere victim of a brutal and callous society.  You did not attack the system that creates such suffering, instead you chose to attack the victim.

This is a system  in which 1% of the  population have appropriated 95% of the wealth of the country leaving over 70% to languish in grim poverty.

You did not  think of attacking a system that condemns its youth to illiteracy, poverty, crime and prostitution instead you chose to attack and BLAME a defenceless victim of one of the harshest and most repressive systems of govt on the planet.  This is why i say people like you deserve the govt you have.  Until you educate yourself and understand that your leaders are under an obligation to provide for its citizenry, particularly the most vulnerable members of that society, you will continue wallowing in a sea of ignorance.

Do i care whether you were born on lagos island? have i not been to lagos island isnt it an overcrowded slum teeming with refuse and garbage.  As  a matter of fact the villages are a hundred times cleaner and more sanitary than your lagos island so please dont think that lagos island is a place to be proud of okay.

You say you dont come from a village - fine, why havent you relocated back to Ikare akoko to make a living from making carvings and pottery?

You say that i have refused to take responsibility for my actions but prefer to shift responsiblity on to the govt, you see this is where again i have to highlight your ignorance - your govt has a duty and a responsibility to provide for its citizens, you have been conditioned to accept your grim poverty stricken state, the mobile police, JTF and all other arms of the nigerian gangster state have beaten you into submission and now like a victim of an abusive relationship you actually think they do not owe you anything.  Does it make sense to you that a country like nigeria which is the 8th largest exporter of oil IN THE WORLD can not provide constant electricity, running water, a functioning health care system, standard educational institutions, employment, food for its citizens!!!!!!!!!!

Cuba is a socialist country with no natural resources and it has a98% literacy level due to its ongoing policy of free education for all of its citizens up to university level, it also provides  free health care for all of its citizens.

You should be ashamed of yourself for defending the gangster run contraption known as nigeria, you havent even got the guts to hold your leaders to account - instead you take out your frustration on a defenceless destitute woman who was nothing but a victim.

Nigeria is a govt serving the interest of a bunch of bandits and that is the truth, it doesnt care about people like you, it never has and it never will okay.

You say nigeria is still pretty young - according to whose calculations ? is 50 years not more than enough time for a country to get its economy on track, when do you think nigeria will be old enough to understand that it needs to get its act together, when the oil runs out or when it is recolonised by the west - by the way the plan of recolonisation of nigeria is now underway - you might want to google africom.

Oh and it was Kennedy who made that quote and not Lincoln and he had every right to ask that of americans as previous govts before him had made many compromises and granted many concessions to the american people - post second world war former american president roosevelt had introduced affordable housing, employment and overall  improved standards of living for its citizens.  Contrast that with the nigerian govts treatment of its own citizens and you will see that you are just refusing to face up to reality.

what is it that the nigerian govt has  done for you - is it SAP, devalued currency, mass unemployment, substandard educational instititutions, non existent health care facilities, sub standard housing provision, mobile police who maim and kill people - please tell me because im scratching around and nothing positive comes to mind.

I am very impressed!!!! finally someone has spoken alot of sense on here!

I think the situation in Nigeria for alot of people is bad. I do not understand why anyone would think that all Nigerians are living well. The Western Media may show us in some negative light sometimes but some of the things said are true.

I have met people that are having it really tough in Nigeria and for anyone to suggest that its all good for anyone is just completely off,

Anyway, for anyone who thinks everything in Nigeria is good,  well,  well ,  well,  its all in your head.

Its a great country but it needs change which i hope it eventually gets.

Poverty is not exclusive to Nigeria.

Romance / Re: Why Do Girls Wake Up At 27 Years by NubianQ(f): 8:00am On Nov 10, 2010
GL:

it seems guys have concluded that women who aren't married by 27 were playing around. what about those who dated one guy for up to 7 years, only to have the guy leave for another woman? besides, women in the past could marry in their teens cos they didn't need much training to be wives. nowadays women have to get educated and build careers also, and it takes more time for some than for others. funny thing is the guys talking now would probably insist that their daughters get masters' degrees before marriage.

on the other hand, why do guys assume that every girl who wants to get married is desperate? some guys ask you to marry them before you even agree to date them, then they act like they are offering you heaven. it seems many people marry cos of children or societal pressure. some others just think it's cool to be 'MRS' (like it's a prestigious degree).

i don't really care what people think, so the pressure isn't a big deal for me. i think a marriage one enters for the sake of kids would feel useless once they fly the nest, so i can't imagine marrying a guy simply to beat menopause. honestly, i don't feel like i need a man to validate my womanhood. this is in no way putting men down, i simply don't allow my appreciation and perception of myself to be influenced by external factors. i would actually like to get married before i'm 27, but i don't believe in setting deadlines cos that could encourage desperation. it's so much more important to me that the relationship has a good foundation (love, trust, respect etc) than the age it happens at.

i don't find the prospect of being single disastrous. that's probably due to my personality; i enjoy solitude, very much. what i wouldn't be able to live with is living an unhappy life whether single or married.

Thats really good, I am impressed with your views wink

To be honest i must say i am impressed with some of you here with your comments. i do not argue about ages to get married, my arguement argument my dear is based on the fact that some people think that following some man made cultural schedule is the key to life. well in the end, i do not judge people that marry, or do not marry. i am a free thinker and i find that people in Nairaland find that hard to believe. In the End its not about getting married our not being married, i think its about your level of intelligence.

We are in a world today where women like me who are in the west have been exposed to the alot of facts about life. when i was in Naija i always thought differently, i never took most of what people regard to as culture as something i had to live my life in line with.
