This is not 2006. Rather it's between 2002 and 2004. |
The Christmas celebration in the south-eastern part of the country is often greeted with myriads of festivities ranging from weddings to age-grade initiations etc. Families from these parts all over the nation, travel home to be part of these festivities and to spend time with each other and reacquaint themselves, especially the children. In Mgbagbu-Owa community in Ezeagu Local government it was the season of celebrating one of their illustrious daughter who has been a great backbone in the development of the community. Her numerous development efforts earned her recognition in the community. Chief Barr. Mrs Adanma Ode has been involved in many projects around Ezeagu Local Government which include philanthropic efforts targeted around widows and orphans of Ezeagu and Udi Local governments, boreholes and skill-acquisition trainings. On the 27th of December 2021, her community found it necessary to confer on her illustrious daughter the chieftaincy title of 'Ugo si n'mba 1 of Mgbagbu-Owa'. Notable amongst the projects in her community are 1km solar street lights, artisan borehole and philanthropic efforts to the less privileged. On the 30th of December 2021, the Ezeagu Patriots; a group of erudite and elite sons and daughters of Ezeagu Local government who have distinguished themselves in various fields home and beyond the shores of the nation, found her philanthropy and zeal for the development and achievement of the Ezeagu dream deserving of another Chieftaincy title of 'Odi Uko n'mba 1 of Ezeagu', a title well deserved and appropriated. 13 other illustrious sons and daughters of Ezeagu extraction also acquired various titles for their developmental strides in developing Ezeagu Local Government. Notable in attendance were RT Hon Sen. Ike Ekweremadu (former deputy senate President), HRH/IGWE/AMB./DR. Lawrence Agubuzu OON (Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers), amongst other dignitaries. It is indeed a great honour done to a woman with a big heart, an erudite par excellence, a mother of virtue and a philanthropist of great design. 'Ugo si n'mba 1 of Umuagba Mgbagbu Owa' 'Odi Uko n'mba 1 of Ezeagu' Chief Barr. Mrs Adanma Odeh. Keep the flag flying higher, for to whom much is given much is expected.

2020 for many people in Nigeria is a year of great difficulty and stress. Many businesses went under, many lost loved ones. However, in the midst of them all, there is reason to be grateful. In Mgbagbu-Owa, a community in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State, the story wasn't different. As is the culture in the South-East, many were wont to returning home for the Christmas holidays. However, this year the traffic wasn't as was expected. Yet in the midst of all this, there is a woman who was touched by the plight of abandonment of widows in the community, and took it upon herself and her family to provide some succour to their suffering. On the 21st of December 2020, 100 widows drawn from two local governments ( Ezeagu and Udi) were provided Christmas packs for themselves and their children. Their tears of joy, laughter and jubilation is better left to imagination. The people of Ezeagu and Udi celebrate this wonderful family, Engr Harrok Ode and his amiable wife Barr. Adanma Ode for all their philanthropic efforts. Long live Enugu State Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria

okoroemeka:Thanks for this wonderful observation. I'm guessing that same system with planting distance of 30cm might be advantageous. It will save on time ( no need calculating the distance to create planting holes), easier application of manure (as it will be applied in a straight line) and better water management (as the water will first flow in the furrow where the plants are). What do you think Sir? |
@Okoroemeka, you have been a wonderful inspiration for many including myself. This thread is in itself a full course on cucumber farming, let's call it CU101. Thank you for your selflessness and sound guidance. I would like to know the outcome of the cucumber cultivation you did in furrows with drip irrigation at 20cm planting distance. Was it sustainable? Did you have any disease or ventilation issues? Kindly update Sir. |
Thanks a million @TangoAlpha @Wizs2019 @Okoroemeka for the quick responses and detailed explanations. Will consider the drip system probably next year. Will make arrangement for farm land beside a steady flowing stream in my villa to try out the hole system. Will update progress when its ready so my teachers can guide appropriately. Thanks once again. |
Good day Okoroemeka, Thanks for the enlightenment. I have tried several seasons of cucumber with very little results but have started noting the mistakes I made from your posts on this forum. I have a few questions please: 1. How do you manage furrow irrigation on your farm ie is it just the pumps and delivery hose or are there added equipment and techniques( I must confess it is almost impossible relocating hoses once full) 2. When you use sunphosate for weed control, doesnt it affect the cukes when using furrow irrigation method? 3. Please how did you manage to replant the cukes damaged by rodents? Did you raise a nursery bed in anticipation or you used rodenticides on the seeds? 4. What is your irrigation regime as you had a mixture of furrow and sprinklers? God bless your hustle. |
Wizs2019:Good day Wizs2019, I observed the trellising was done with bamboo crosslinked with binding wire. Do you ever have a situation where the weight of the cukes pull down the lines or bend over the bamboo poles? |
@okoroemeka I soaked four bags of chicken manure in one of my tanks yesterday. When I went back this evening, olboy! The stench and the flies! Apparently the amount of water used wasn't enough to keep the manure under water(I saw yours was completely submerged). The flies were just laying eggs anyhow. I had to resort to insecticide and more water to keep the manure under water. Will update you on the outcome. |
okoroemeka:Nice to know! Thanks for the insight. Will apply same and see how that pans out. Thanks again. |
Thanks for all your insight @okoroemeka, though I started reading this thread late in my cucumber journey. I have one question that bugs me about manure. I read somewhere on the thread where you mentioned soaking manure for 4 days before application. Does that reduce the nitrogen burn from chicken manure? I have always had the challenge of composting the old fashion way and that takes months. Is this a faster way to get similar results? Can the manure gotten from this method be applied directly to plant base? |
Good morning cheapland,
Do you have cheap agricultural land in the southeast? Keep up the good work. |
CarlcareOpebi:My phone goes off at will and doesnt come on beyond the start-up image. I have tried doing the reset but it hasnt stopped. |
Good day, I had power cycling problems with my infinix hot 3 X554.It was flashed at the store where I earlier purchased it to no avail. I sent it to your Carlcare centre in Nsukka but after some enquiries was told that there are no service parts at your headoffice. I used this phone for less than a year. My enquiry is what parts are needed and when will they be available. |

@Karin001 Thanks for new plans to consider those outside of Lagos.
I Rep Enugu. |
To say I'm truly overwhelmed with the personalities and comments on this thread would be an understatement. I am keenly following the updates, and further to this course will be implementing the recommendations in my own locality. @Karin001 you may have started out this thread to help out 20 but I dare say the ripple effects will amaze you. @rose75 you are indispensable. Kudos I'm sipping my palmy in the South-east and watching |
@karin001 I'm truly impressed with your selflessness and desire to build others. May God bless you abundantly. Just a pity that the location for the first phase of this program is strictly Lagos. If it is possible, those of us outside of Lag would have loved to be a part of the process. For some of us ideas are an easy pick, but the problem lies with effective selling and sales training. Kindly put this into consideration and whatever interactions there be, should also have a wider effect if possible. More grease to your elbows |

That's why you also have to be respectful in any platform because you never know the person you interacting with. My only little one is bearly 2 years old, I have a long way to go before he can start his own summer project.
