Which W/African country has SAM shocked ?

I am against basing in a fellow African's country. First step to power madness
I understand where you are coming from.Except you believe we'll stop intervening in the future we might have to take that step.I am not too good with this, but let us imagine a scenario (A). (A) = a country, let us call her P, is in crisis the leader has refused to step down after losing an election.A resolution is passed by ECOWAS calling for mil intervention etc.Now country P's neighbour, let us call her J,opposed the resolution( or whatever it is called,i already said i'm not good with this). Now J has a modest airforce equipped with 6 Mirage F-1's equipped with exocet ashm's and 4 pantsir SPAAGM systems. How do you envisage Nigeria intervening in such a situation where we won't have control of the airspace.I know this was not perfect, but i believe i've managed to get my thoughts across to you.

NNSBSC at the Banjul International Airport Gambia (Yundum International).
With the way our fellow W. African Countries are uparming, potentially with SAM systems ( pantsir, manpads,AAA ).Our diplomats should see how they can get a permanent base in Gambia, Sierra Leone or Liberia, because i don't know how we plan to escort our transport planes over potentially dangerous airspace.

Total payments made for the JF-17: $ 14 million + $ 36 million + $ 47 million = $ 97 million.So we are getting 3 JF-17.

what is open source architecture in the first place ?

It is something which most of us take it literally , if that was the case then cross platform integration would have been a breeze across all fighters around the world.

Only Gripen to some extent has managed it.

There r limitations to what u can integrate and it depends on lots of factors like SWaP , access to source codes , compatibility with various LRUs and onboard sensors etc etc

And importantly the willingness of foreign OEMs to integrate their products on a foreign aircraft which in the first place is subjected to geo political realities.
I guess i've learnt something new then .At the end of the day it depends on what the NAF wants.

Seriously no offence but do u guys read what u post even once ?

Chinese yes

Israeli weapons/equipments no . Seriously Israeli ?

Russian weapons no

American weapons/equipments no

Turkish weapons/equipments yes provided they have the clearance for US/EU components used in their systems. And provided somebody is willing to invest money and time for the integration of the same.

Also no weapon is sanction free perse, provided u manage to piss the right guys
My understanding is the JF-17 is on open source architecture,so we don't have to be restricted to one supplier/nation.

I once came across an excellent article on Quwa about how the JF-17 Thunder and Denel Dynamics should partner and offer a combined fighter and munitions package using their respective products.

According to the article, the JF-17 can serve as a native platform of sorts for Denel Dynamics to use as a means to market its munitions, specifically in the context of becoming a preferred vendor for countries unable to acquire sufficient numbers of Western or Russian fighters, or at all
For a country like Nigeria that manufactures few defence products the JF-17 offers us a variety of options in the case of sanctions. If the Pakistani's can't fulfill our order we can copy Myanmar and order directly from China.

It seems i was wrong on the JF-17 acquisition however based on widely available public comments, it did not seem like the NAF was still interested in the aircraft.

That being said, i still wonder the reason for the delay?

It is still my opinion that with the purchase of the Tucanos, the JF-17s are not the best fit for purpose aircraft for the Nigerian Air Force.
The JF-17 may not be the best aircraft out there, but lets take a look at the equipment, weapons etc integrated to it and what it will bring to the NAF. 1) PL-9C WVRAAM : we already have this, just needs a HMS with it . 2) SD-10A : will assure our air superiority needs within the region with M2000 and F-1 jets around. 3) C-802 : we've never had this but it will surely be a game changer in the gulf of guinea axis with our neighbours storing up land based ASHM's. 4) Various Chinese guided bombs and missiles for use in CT/COIN operations. 5) Aselsans ASELPOD : a recon and targeting pod. 6) Finally it can use Chinese,Israeli,Russian,American, andTurkish weapons and equipment. So the JF-17 is cheap to buy and operate is better than what we have and is almost sanctions free.

I know i am derailing, but just had to put this here. The five highest spenders on defence in Africa are Algeria,Morocco,South Africa,Egypt and Angola.Nigeria doesn't spend as much on defence, compared to these nations yet we expect to equip our guys just like theirs.

The Nigerian Air Force has flown 30,000 combat missions in less than a year.

The attrition rate is well with acceptable standards. The Nigerian Air Force as a service has done really well, make no mistake.

However the service like other branches of the military require serious funding. That would mean the Nigerian Government income has to go up.

Nigeria has one of the world's worst tax to GDP ratio, 5% to GDP.

Are you willing to be taxed higher so the government can afford to properly fund the NAF, so we can purchase the high performance jets we want?
Thats what they don't get the NAF is working with the little provided by the FG. Do we have the money for billion dollar deals ? sure, but the politicians are not interested in spending. This year alone the service chiefs were almost begging the govt. to spend ,but how many Nigerians cared to support them.

Nobody knows when we will get our JF-17s with the US-RUSSIA wahala. An option could be to purchase the mig-29smt for air defence missions and undertake a deep intensive upgrade of our F-7's,purchase used F-7PG's from Pakistan to make up the numbers,( with new engines, martin baker ejection seats, new radar, targeting pods etc) as a stopgap measure. By 2030 we should have totally replaced these aircraft with the JF-17 as the Pakistani's are still fulfilling their own requirements.

12 F-7NI & 3 FT-7NI. 3 Crashed so we are left with 11 fighter and 1 trainer version. TRACON, the civilian version has been up and running for the past few years.

You should know better. You've been keen on saying the super tucsno is a propeller aircraft and it goes beyond that.

The tucsno is what we need to prosecute these COIN in the North East. You have to go and read about the aircraft.

The A-29 Super Tucano is an aircraft that the U.S. Air Force paid to develop precisely for partner countries that needed air support for their counter terrorism operations. The super tucano has wing-mounted machine guns, weapons integration with advanced surveillance and targeting pods, precision-guided bombs, and even air-to-air missiles.

This makes it an excellent territorial defense and close support plane for low-budget air forces, as well as a surveillance asset with armed attack capability. The Brazilian Airforce uses it this way. for instance; alongside very advanced EMB-145 airborne radar and maritime patrol jet platforms..etc

The super tucano as is own distinct capabilities- to carry it's own ISR and strike capabilities, which these 4th gen Jets wouldn't offer plus cost & maintenance.

I think should do a little more research on the super tucano and NAF super tucano's contract. The whole $600M is not only for the 12 aircrafts alone, it comes with a whole lot of packages.
And it solves some of the shortfalls of the alphajet;Range,Payload,Endurance, and precision.
