Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is an important medical condition which is on the increase in the past 50 years. It causes significant morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing nations of the world. To review the relevant literature on obstructive sleep apnea. Literature review was carried out on the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, complications, diagnostic modalities, and treatment using computerized search. Additional information was obtained by cross referencing and using texts and journals in the medical libraries of Federal Medical Centre Owerri and University of Nigeria, Enugu. Most of the literature was from developed countries, with very few reports from Africa. Comprehensive management plan was lacking in many textbooks. OSAHS is an increasing medical and, more importantly, respiratory condition across the world. Early recognition and prompt appropriate intervention measures will reduce the mortality and improve the quality of life in patients with such conditions.

Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is an important medical condition brought to limelight in the last five decades.[1] It is a major cause of morbidity and significant cause of mortality worldwide, including developed and developing nations. A survey done in Abuja, Nigeria,[2] showed that OSAHS may be a more common medical problem than previously imagined. It is a common cause of daytime sleepiness. As the prevalence of obesity and overweight increases in both developed and developing nations of the world, the medical and, more importantly, respiratory implications are often underestimated.[3] Patients with this condition present to the clinician and early recognition and effective management of this condition will improve the patients’ quality of life.
This review provides information for the clinicians assessing patients with OSAHS. It discusses the definition, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, complications, polysomnography findings, and treatment of OSAHS.
Apnea refers to a pause in respiration for more than 10 seconds and is seen in both central sleep apnea (CSA) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They are differentiated by a lack of respiratory effort in CSA versus continued but ineffective respiratory effort in OSA. Hypopnea is defined as reduction in ventilation of at least 50% that results in a decrease in arterial saturation of 4% or more due to partial airway obstruction.[1,4]
OSAHS is a syndrome associated with characteristic clinical picture and specific abnormalities on assessment. In OSAHS, there is repetitive collapse of the upper airway, which may be either partial or total resulting in hypopnea or apnea, respectively; during sleep, it occurs more than five times per hour (apnea–hypopnea index (AHI)).[3]

Apnea and hypopnea are caused by the airway being sucked close on inspiration during sleep. This occurs as the upper airway dilating muscles, which are also striated muscles, normally relax during sleep. In patients with OSAHS, the dilating muscles can no longer successfully oppose negative pressure within the airway during inspiration.[1] The patients have narrow upper airways. I totally agree with you,this is 2013 and the fact that our telecoms like MTN,GLO,ETISALAT,AIRTEL actually don't have a good marketing strategy should tell you the kind of backward situation Naija is.
I will explain something for you:
Lets assume these TELECOMS/CARRIERS wants to start selling phones with contract,it's actually lucrative and very possible in Nigeria,What they should do is to offer the contract PHONES to People with Salary Accounts[i][/i],Assuming i want to get the latest iPhone and the contract free/unlocked iPhone 5S is N147,000, I can get it from MTN for down payment of N20,000,then each month N10,000 will be deducted from my salary account to MTN for 24 months....within this N10,000 I get 250MB,60min voice call & 50 SMS with no rollover to the next month. So after the period of 24months MTN made a total transaction of N260,000 from one single customer. If you subtract the actual price of the iPhone from the total transaction you get N113,000 in net profit.
This kind of business model will actually boost the TELECOMS business geometrically while it will enable the customer to make purchase without breaking banks.

well for a stater i have tried to subscribe for 100hrs and after MTN remove my 5K,they refuse to give me the 100hrs,when i went to their office they apologies and compensate me with my 5k back,then i use my phone to subscribe by sending 100h to 131.....i guess if u use your phone to subscribe instead of using the modem,it will work....CHEERS

seriously guys should not be comparing THE galaxy s2 with any nokia phone, How could you when nokia are just making a single 1Grtz processor phones in 2012 while samsung are making a quad core phone(SGS 3) come April, apart from that the operating system of galaxy phones(android) is so advance that even the IOS will only show it more numbers of apps but not tweaking and modding, the galaxy s2 is a dual core 1.2Ghrtz phone with other variations like the AT&T galaxy s2 which comes with a dual core 1.5Ghrtz processor and can be overclocked at 1.8Ghrtz, the kind of apps you can use with an android phone is breathtaking and MOST of the apps in the android market are free or the only difference between a free app and a premium one is the advert.
WHY are we not FULLY enjoining our android phones?because the GSM providers in NIGERIA will not give us unlimited access rather they give us a puny 1GB/month @ N3000 to N4000

common everyone if something looks too good to be true then it's definitely TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE , when i learned about the MTN time based plan,i was so happy cos i own a cafe and the volume base plan is always not enough and too expensive, so i rushed and subscribe for the 100hrs/month for N5000 hoping that i will give my customers good service but alas that is never going to happen, Let me tell you guys how MTN are messing us up! if you connect and download like 400-500mb at a go your network will be very slow for the rest of the bundle,meaning after this download MTN will monitor you and have a bandwidth management policy on your line, from this moment your network speed will not pass 14-16kbps, i thought this is a problem with the network,so i tried subscribing for 20hrs/week for N1500 on my samsung galaxy s, after tethering with my laptop and downloading 500mb the same shit happens again,so today i went MTN office and inquire but the MUMU i talked to don't know anything about networking talk less of bandwidth management, so if anyone of you good people know something about this problem please share it
