When all the so -called American artist loose their clout and relevance on the scene Africa a la Nigeria is their next point of call. Here you celebrate them and turn them to superstars when our own stars are treated likes s, t in yankee.na u na knoww o.why did Dbanj/2face receive BET award inside studio b4 d award and not on stage during the award proper? we no even see any camera highlight for African artist during the show.We should stop looking for validation in wrong places esp DBANJ/MO HITS. |
It is a well known fact that foreingn media has done nothing but to project the negativities of African nation and underminning their achievements. The documentary presented facts but it is not balanced as there is also the positive side of Lagos and the characters dont represent what Lagos is. I believe it behove us Nigerians albeit Africans as well to always let us know what goes on in those Western worlds as well. All I keep reading is there are slums in New york, there are slums in London or elsewhere but we have international journalists and satellite TVs run by Nigerians and we never see them making documentaries about these ghettos and slums, these killings and lack of securities going on there,do we! all ewe see and hear is about the good life.Dont blame a broadcaster who reported according to his own pespectives .we too can be setting the record straight by making and documenting that no country is different, there is always both sides everywhere. |
You can re-schedule,just go back to the site and put in your ref number, as usual you will see a column for re-scheduling appt, it will give you a nearer date, its easy.good luck |
I dont know why guys are arguing over this. I still believe Nigeria has good music/lyrics ,it all depends on what individual wants and what we tend to celebrate, Some songs are lyrically nonsense but its not the artistes that turns them to hits-- --its you guys that are complaininig, ---its the society, its the radio stations ---its the TV stations ,---its the multinational companies , ----its the mobile communication companies and above all its the so called intellectuals of tommorow-the UNI students, Now case studies-- 1-Eeedris recorded 'jagajaga' a very inspiring soci-conscious music but it became his waterloo . you all knew what transpired and how he was left in the lurch and am sure you are part of the people that would blame him then. 1-Sound Sultan has been making one of the most conscious and relevant records in Nigeria here are few tracks 'jagbajantis','koleyewon' 'motherland','king of my country','bushmeat' and latest single'2010' but i ve never seen him go home with any 'hip hop awards' is it not you people that always vote for winners? Like wise I dont see any company branding him,is he not good enough? artistes that sings frivolities are ur ambassadors aint it? its a reflection of all of you, thats what you prefer ,you want 'jolly' instead of reasoning-you prefer 'sayop .sayo, at concerts instead of stoppin to think and say 'Take 4 instance' you prefer 'mocrofone madness' at shows other than artiste who will cry and say'ko gbadun' we have good music/good lyrics in this country ,you are the one selecting artist to make super stars and it reflects your mediocrity. |
Abati made some points but goofed by generalizing while the young ladys response also had some salient points. My people the blame will also bounce back to the so called Abati generation. ==present Nigerian artistes are sensible and sensitive ,their generation dont listen 1)EEdris sang 'nigeria jagajaga' (he was ostracized did Abati write article to defend him from presidentiat curse?) 2)Sound Sultan has been as patriotic/militant as ever frm 'jagbajantis', 'koleyewon', 'Gengen','ojeeje', 'Area;, 'Bushmeat' to 'king of my country' did anybody celebrae him? 3)NIGGA Raw has always been the man with 'Obodo', 'Kogbadun' 4) Did 2shot and 9ice not ask wetin happen 2 garri 4 market in 'make dem talk' ? 5) Is Seun Kuti not a young artist with his song 'Many Many things' ? but never got airplay or promo. The list is endless and its a fact that the other alternative music we are being bombarded with is being promoted and supported by coporate bodies owned by their generation when they know they should promote other coscious artiste like above .Artiste dont own GLOBACOM,BANKS,ZAIN,MTN ,RADIO/TV STATIONS ,They dot give demselves al d awrds now abi?no be their generations dey sponsor all the shows and encourage 'kokos' and '4kasibes'? Why did 'Nigerian music awards' die ? now robbin other artiste aside 4rm hip hop the opportunity 4 recognition of their talent?is it not musician of Abati generation that used politics and greediness to spoil the association? let Abati go siddon and his generation of bombooklaat go shut up abeg! |
To fully analyse this trend can you guys answer these questions 1- Why do most rappers/hip hop artiste who lived abroad(states/UK) ave to come to Nigeria to really blow by doing it d naija way as in afro hip hop e.g. Weird MC, Dbanj ,(4rm UK),Naeto C ,Ikechukwu,Sauce Kid(4rm .States). 2=Why do the ones that are still resident abroad making music the naija way ,rappin in 9ja flow and still relying on 9ja airplay and publicity as well as Lagos market for their success? eg Tillaman/Dola-puyanka,Pounds/naira nd AY, JJC nd 419 (way back)El Swagga (not sur i got dt) etc. 3- Talking about selling internationally as one poster said --Why did El Dee come to Lagos and not Rap in American Lingo in Atlanta to enter the chart there instead of doing it 'Bo i gbangba way'? or rather wh cant the likes of Naeto C and Ikechukwu remain in New York and do the 'real ' hip hop where it comes 4rm with dem borrowed accent? 4-Why Did 2face's 'African Queen' an international hit despite it being in simple 9ja English devoid of fake nasalized accent?-- and winning MTV/MOBO awards. 5- Why did 9ices 'Gongo Aso' win MOBO ? its yoruba despites all the real MC'S u av . 6-Why Did KSA 'syncro system' a hit in the 80's with Grammys nomination? 7- Why is hip-hop/rap not recognized /defined or popular in Nigeria before the song 'Sakomo' by Remedies? Well answer this questions and get inline of my thought ,truth is bitter to arrive at any conclusion there shou;d be analysis the fact remains that any Nigerian would feel Nigga raw than Kanye west and would flow with 9ice than Lil Wayne .Staying real take u places cos music is a universal language .hip hop /rap is a culture of reality about where you belong and happenstances there thats why an artiste will be insane to use words like 'bitches, hoes.chicken head.baby mama/fada' in Lagos cos we dont live that style . We are who we are if Jay - Z speaks anoda lang than English he ad others wuld gladly sing in it.So lets embrace ours thats keepin it real . TENI NTENI TA KI TA N TAKITAN ! = UMUNNAMU!- CHIKENEKE MEE!=ELA HO I HE! Thats our own swags. The truth is that n |

Theres no room for comparison GT is a musician ,Wande is not.Nigerians like Tolala and Princesca dont appreciate musicians but singers who mime to CDS .GT stands tall in the league of artistes like ASA ,Sound Sultan,Darey ,Beautiful Nubia etc while Wande is in the league of his cohorts like Dbanj,TErry G,Hman,DjZees and the like. For some posters to say GT is wack its not dem fault ask them when they grew up ?if you grow up in the late 90,s /00 what wuld u say cos thats d orientation we gon have ,soundtracking not musicianship as thats what is being promoted now.when we discuss music artiste like Asa,Zubby Enebeli,Suuny Nneji,Solagbade,Seun Kuti ,Beautiful Nubia,GT,Tba Gold seldom comes up because all we know is 'momentary club bangin songs' and not music. |
Dear all, Basically methinks the world is a stage and its 'soldier go soldier come' some artiste might have falling cos they refuse to grow and re-invent themselves while some might have fallen due to bad decision .I also believe it has to do with us too their audience and how we percieve music and what we promote and celebrate, and if I might say it right now all we celebrate is 'mediocrity'musically,we just wanna dance -a song just for the moment irrespective of any gibberish the artiste is saying,we dont want music ,we dont wanna listen,we dont want a song we can feel, experience and grow with .its sad! This is the reason the lifespan of all our so called hit song 12months top -I ask do you still have these songs on your Ipods or play them on CDs -Dbanjs 'why me',olu maintains'yahooze',x-projects-'lorile'etcand tell me if you not already gettin bored with songs like '4kasibe',booty call',bosom fc' 'iyalaya won','maga don pay' ,'kinni big deal'and co, and how old are these songs if i may ask? are we not partly responsible for whats happening in that industry? artistes that talk sense we dont celebrate ,they dont win awards and we dont vote for them,we still have good music .we have ariste that talk sense like Sound sultan,Nigga raw,Asa , but we dont promote them ,they dont get those concerts like Glo,NBL ,Guiness etc why ?lets ask if we are not the one killing the industry . |
Heres a link to Baba Dee -Sodi E video on youtube .Lets have an excursion to one of the pioneering 9ja hip hop song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inhrQsa8piY enjoy!
