The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC has confirmed that the council will release the 2019 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result online before the end of this month.

This was made known by the official Twitter handle of WAEC after a student awaiting the results asked questions as regards when results of the May/June examination will be released.

A passport is an official document issued by the government of a country to her citizens to grant them access for the purpose of international movements or travels. Since the introduction of the new international passport in Nigeria, a lot of people have not been informed of the new changes in price and application methods and the types of passport available. As we already know, the passport is a very important personal means of identification and a document anybody needs to travel abroad so it's important we understand the details about it. The current E-Passport which was launched by President Mohammadu Buhari was divided into two types - the 64-pages and the 32-pages and both have different prices and the validity period now lasts up to 10 years, unlike the previous one with 4 years.

Below is a breakdown of the passport types, their prices and durations.

1 The cost of 32-page five-year standard passport price is N25,000.

2 64-page five-year standard passport costs N35,00.

3 64-page 10-year standard passport price is N70,000

4 32-page five-year official passport costs N15,000.


However, based on experience, one applying for a passport at any immigration office in Nigeria needs to have more than these amounts specified. As at the 03/07/2019, the 32-page five-year standard at Immigration Office in Ikoyi, Lagos State costs around N40,000-N50,000. The extra fees, which we don't understand, maybe the charges imposed by the immigration officer processing your passport. Another very important thing you need to know before applying for the new international passport is that you must have a National Identity Card. This has been made mandatory recently. The Nigerian ID card must be processed and the temporal ID obtained before the international passport can be processed. The National ID is totally free and the temporal ID can be processed in one day or in a few days.

While suffering and sadness can lead to depression, the two are entirely different from depression.

Things you should know are:

1. Prayers will never cure depression. If you can't pray yourself out of malaria and you buy drugs, then you can't pray yourself or someone out of depression. It's a mental health condition, therefore, seek medical help. There are drugs for depression which only a medical professional should recommend. Don't offer advices to a depressed person when you have little knowledge of the condition. If you truly want to help, then seek medical treatment for the person.

2. It's wrong to blame suiciders and think they are hell fire-bound. We know you are the Chief of Hell Fire Staff and you determine who goes there or not. But chill. Hardly would anyone take their own life in their right senses. Like HIV, which progresses to AIDS if untreated and finally kills, depression progresses to the worst stage of clinical or major depression if not treated and at this stage, controls your mental self as a remote controls a TV and you almost have not control over your choices and if suicide becomes the resulting effect of yours, it becomes an option and you almost can't stop yourself from it. So God in his mercy can't just put such a person in hell fire. Even you, a wicked human can't be that heartless. So if you have this opinion, you should definitely not offer advices to a depressed person as you may be making matters worse.

Depression can be explained as a mental health disorder distinguished by constantly depressed mood or causing a long-term loss of interest in the things of life or loss of hope in a brighter/happy future.

The causes can range from a combination of biological, mental and social sources of distress. More and more, research is of the opinion that these factors may bring about changes in brain function, including altered activity of certain neural circuits in the brain.

Depression has been so common among people in the world and in Nigeria alone, there has been a record 1.5 million cases per year. Depression as bad as it is, can be treated by a medical professional and it can be resolved within months. As JAMB has vowed to increase its effort in eradicating examination malpractice, cheating or what we popularly call “expo” in the board's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, the board has in a new development, launched investigations into the credentials of candidates who wrote the UTME since 2009 to 2019 and might have gotten involved in cheating or expo during the exams. These include those who are graduates now, NYSC members, etc.


Those found guilty of these examination malpractices, whether graduates, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Members, etc, who might have cheated the system to pass the UTME and got admission, will be arrested and their certificates withdrawn.

It is so sad that the Nigerian education system is so rotten, so below standard and this doesn't in any way bother the government as of course, their own kids go to the very few standard but expensive schools we have and most of their kids study abroad where education is prioritized and raised to standard.

An invigilator in the just concluded Joint Admission And Matriculation Board, JAMB, exam has revealed a sad experience of what happened in the Computer Based Test, CBT, Centres. According to the invigilator who took to her Twitter handle to express this, the prospective university students are most computer illiterates.


The introduction of the CBT since 2013 has proven to be a major challenge to Nigerian students as many can not master the Computers and this in turn leads to bad performances and this traces back to the primary and secondary schools not having adequate means of teaching computer to students.



According to Eniolaoluwa, the invigilator, in a hall of 250 students, only 10 could successfully use the computers. How shocking and saddening!
