The Buhari Media Organization has branded Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe a ‘liar’ for claiming that only one Igbo man works in Aso-rock during a live interview on Channels TV a few days ago.
The group, in a statement made available to POLITICS NIGERIA, described Abaribe’s comments as a ’tissue of lies’, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari has several aides of Igbo origin.
“His further attempt to give the impression that President Muhammadu Buhari has not done anything for that region is quite laughable and ridiculous, given the realities on ground”,the statement read.
The signed by the group’s Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke that Senator Abaribe ended up making himself look silly by suggesting that the only personal aide of the President from the region is ‘only’ a photographer.
“It beggars belief that an opposition Senator who has been in the corridors of powers since 1999 could knowingly seek to hoodwink Nigerians with a false narrative in a bid to portray President Buhari in a bad light.”
“Aside from being wide off the mark on the multiple award-winning former ‘This Day’ editor, Sunday Aghaeze who was headhunted by the President for the role he is playing in the Presidency, Abaribe out of mischief, or perhaps ignorance, left out Oge Modie, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Strategic Communications and Uche Ozurumba, Special Assistant to the President on Strategic Communications.
“Others are Francis Anatogu, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President (public sector matters); Nneka Ikejiani, Senior Technical Assistant to the President (delivery unit); Somkele Awa-Kalu, Special Assistant to the President (research); Tochi Nwachukwu, Special Assistant to the President (power privatisation) and Nkechi Chukwueke, Special Assistant to the President (community engagement).
There are also Nkoli Anyaoku, Special Assistant to the President (DCOS); Nonye Ojekwe, Special Assistant to the President (political matters); Louisa Chinedu-Okeke, Special Assistant to the President (finance) and Juliet Chikaodili-Nwagu, Special Assistant to the President (justice sector reforms and international relations).
“Or is it that the Senator who has no record of achievement in all his years as a senior PDP government official wants to deny their ‘Igboness’ as people like him love to do mischievously?
“We challenge him to tell Nigerians what he has done in his political career for the South East people from when he was Deputy Governor in Abia State in 1999 to all his years in the Senate, especially when his party was in power at the centre.”
“Abaribe’s State is also seen as one of the worst in terms of development out of the 36 States in the country even though his party had produced all the Governors since the return to civil rule, yet he is so comfortable with hateful and divisive rhetorics.”
“If he could afford to sleep comfortably each night with what his party has been doing in Abia since1999, then we won’t be surprised he could seek to water down the concern expressed by the Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi about PDP’s treatment of the South East,” the group added.
Fulani herdsmen, customs officers killing us like goats – Ogun residents tell Buhari
Residents of Ogun State have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying they were being killed by Fulani herdsmen and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
They called on the President to put an end to incessant killings and youths unemployment.
At a town hall meeting organised by the Minister for Mines and Steels Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro and Abeokuta on Friday, youths, women and elders of Ogun State bared their minds on ways to prevent a repeat of the recent #EndSARS protest.
While declaring the meetings open, Adegbite told the people that President Buhari had sent his appointees back to their home states to feel the pulse of Nigerians in order to forestall a repeat of youths restiveness that could give birth to carnage, killings, arson and breakdown of law and order.
In their reactions, the people lamented the spate of killings in Ogun State, especially in the border communities, blaming unemployment for the recent crisis.
Ogun indigenes also decried the deplorable conditions of federal roads in the state, while adding that the people are hungry as a result of border closure.
In his words, Adebiyi Adeyinka Tajudeen from Yewa South said customs officers have been killing Ogun people like goats, all in the name of chasing suspected smugglers.
Tajudeen alleged that many have been killed this year by the customs officers, begging the President to stop NCS officers from shooting within the communities if they fail to seize contraband at the borders.
Corroborating Tajudeen’s submission, one Hunponu Olamikan explained that Fulani herdsmen have made farming unattractive to the people of the Gateway State.
According to Olamilekan, herdsmen have continued to destroy farms as their cows graze on crops.
“After destroying our crops, we have no right to talk. If we talk, these Fulani herdsmen will kill us like goats. Recently, they killed a father, his wife and three children in Oja-Odan, Yewa North. This is getting too much and nobody is doing anything about it,” Olamilekan lamented.
In his words, the former Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Tosin Adeluyi, called on the Federal Government to see to the development of border areas, saying the agency put in charge of that responsibility has not been doing anything in Ogun State.
Adeluyi said unemployment is the root cause of all social vices, and charged governments at all levels to keep the youths off the streets by getting them gainfully employed.
Responding, the Minister assured the people that their requests would get to the President.
Adegbite said government would not rest until the excesses of customs officers in Ogun and Nigeria in general are addressed.
According to him, officers of the NCS need to be sensitised, stressing that “it is far better for a smuggler to escape than to kill an innocent soul.”
He revealed that the population of the nation is growing faster than the nation’s revenue, urging all Nigerians to be productive.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has reassured Nigerians that the ongoing construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge will be completed in 2022.
Fashola who gave the assurance during a town hall meeting to host communities of Anambra and Delta States, regretted that some grounds had been lost in the job occasioned by the conflicts and the coronavirus pandemic.
He commended governors of both states, Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Okowa for their efforts in returning normalcy in the area.
He said, “The President asked me to assure you that nothing would stop the completion of the project in 2022.
“The project is on course; thanks to the governors of Anambra and Delta States, Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Okowa for their efforts in returning normalcy here.
“Not withstanding, the initial conflict and COVID-19 heat, the project will be delivered as scheduled in 2022 .The President is committed to that date.”
While putting the cost of the project at N414bn, the Minister underscored the place of peace and sacrifice from the host communities.
“This is huge investment. We need peace to finish this work; we need patient, we need sacrifice. We shall remediate what you go through. You will not be left behind, we shall control the flooding resulting from the construction.
“Compensation is a big issue. It will be better for the state governments of Anambra and Delta States to engage the host communities while we (FG) deal with the state governments about issues of compensation . But the government does not have all the money. Even if oil price drops further, this project must continue.
Speaking on Zik masoluem, which he had earlier inspected, Fashola said management board had been constituted to handle the place so that the facility would not go into disuse.
He, however, called for concerted efforts in keeping the place in order, stating “Zik belongs to all of us.”
In their separate speeches, Obiano and Okowa thanked Buhari for ensuring that the 2nd Niger Bridge project stayed alive.
Obiano said, ” We we thank Mr President for keeping his words. We also commend the commitment of the honourable minister in this project .
Obiano who said he had resolved conflicts on the project five times from the Anambra side, urged the contractor, Julius Berger Plc to settle the contentious issues with the host communities.
He said,” The commitment made to the communities has not been met. We need absolute peace to realise this project.
“It’s important we support the FG by holding our youths. We shall ensure peace from the Anambra side. The multiplier effects of this bridge are already being felt. We shall continue to support this initiative, despite the odds.
On his part, Managing Director, Julius Berger, PLC, Lars Richter, said the project had reached 50.1 completion.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested suspects allegedly linked with the roasting and eating of the flesh of police officers burnt in Ibadan during End SARS protest.
Police Spokesman at the Oyo State Command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, made this known in Ibadan in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Fadeyi added that the suspects, a 34-year-old expectant mother and a 43-year-old man have been transferred to the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
The 34-year-old woman was alleged to have eaten some body parts of one of the police victims, an allegation which she denied.
According to her, though it was true that she was at the scene, she was only given the body parts to keep by the second suspect, the 43-year-old man.
The 43-year-old suspect did not also deny being at the scene of the incident with other hoodlums, but disclosed that it was the woman who voluntarily took the body parts and only asked him for a towel or handkerchief to wrap them in.
The deceased policemen were deployed to contain the End SARS protest in October, which was hijacked by hoodlums, when they met their deaths, NAN reports.
