Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has given a breakdown of his party’s campaign expenses within the past three months.

The three months of campaign spending is for the period of May to August 2022.

Sowore shared the breakdown on his official Twitter page on Thursday.

According to him, the party’s campaign bank account balance as of August 31, 2022, stood at N875,696 . cheesy

The breakdown highlighted expenditures for the three months as; printing (N650,000), subscriptions (N23,350.50), media logistics (N330,000), and consumables (N20,000). grin (Agbado!)

Others are conveyance (N1,200,750), party activities (N270,000), security (N200,000), maintenance (N40,000), and bank charges (N8,914.57).

The party’s campaign total payments for the three months stood at N2,743,015.

In 2019, after the presidential election, the AAC presidential campaign organisation had said the party spent N157 million on its campaign activities.

The 2019 campaign expenses, according to the organisation, included N37,656,000 for “awareness materials”; N13.5 million on “wages and salaries”, and N55,040,000 for “engagements” across the country such as meetings, concerts, protests, townhall meetings.

Meanwhile, the maximum expenses for presidential candidates has now been reviewed.

Section 91(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022 states that “the maximum election expenses to be incurred by a candidate at a presidential election shall not exceed N5,000,000,000.00.”

Gumi’s investigation and arrest will end banditry in North-West, group tells security agencies

The investigation and subsequent arrest of controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, will end the spate of banditry in the North-West.

The National Inter-Faith Movement, which made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, also said Gumi must explain his relationship with the bandits, especially following the arrest of his media consultant and ally Tukur Mamu.

Mamu, a newspaper publisher, negotiated the release of some of the hostages in the March 2022 train abduction in Kaduna where large sums of money exchanged hands.

The alleged terrorist accomplice who was arrested at Cairo International Airport on his way to Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj, was deported back and then picked up by the Department of States Services at the Kano International Airport.

Mamu is currently in court over alleged links to terrorism.

Commending the DSS for the arrest, the National Inter-Faith Movement said relative peace has returned to the North-West, especially the troubled Abuja-Kaduna expressway since Mamu was nabbed.

The group, in a statement signed by Rev. Amos Adah, it’s National President, however, urged the security agencies to go a step further to arrest Gumi.

According to Adah, the Kaduna-based cleric is Mamu’s boss, noting that the journalist may have been acting based on his instructions.

The Reverend said Gumi must explain to Nigerians his compassion for terrorists and state categorically how he has benefitted from insecurity.

Rev Adah said the controversial cleric’s provocative position after Mamu’s arrest again proved that he is a person of interest.

“We have followed with keen interest the investigation and arrest of Mamu by the DSS. We must say that this proves that our security agencies are working without many words. The DSS also acted timely to take Mamu to court,” Adah said.

“This is a smart move in the right direction. Any individual or group who has decided to unleash anguish on fellow humans must be made to pay. On behalf of other Christian leaders in Kaduna and the entire northwest who have suffered from bandits, we say thank you to the intelligence community.

” However, they must not rest on their oars. If there is evidence to tie down Mamu, certainly there will be more linked to his master, Gumi. Thus we charge our gallant officers to take the next brave step to arrest and prosecute Gumi.

“Gumi has never hidden his love for bandits, so much that he once called for amnesty. These are people who killed and maimed thousands of unarmed civilians; women and children including our family members.

“Consequently, we demand the immediate arrest and interrogation of Gumi who, by now, should be a person of interest to all intelligence and law enforcement agencies. He must tell Nigerians all he knows about the attack on the train which led to the death and kidnap of countless citizens from whom large sums were collected as ransom.

“Gumi is now weaponising falsehood to incite Islamic fanatics against the Nigerian state through his sermons in mosques. To divert the attention of the security agencies, he already constituted himself in a court of law to exonerate his mentee. The security agents must act fast”.

Politics2023: Peter Obi Leads In Presidential Poll - Vanguard by NwaNimo1(op): 7:35pm On Sep 15, 2022
The 2023 presidential election is a three-horse race between the candidates of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi; All Progressives Congress, Mr Bola Tinubu; and Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, a new poll concluded in early September has shown.

According to the result of the poll which was commissioned by the Anap Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Limited, Mr Obi is leading the race with 21 percent of votes in the poll.

His votes give him an 8 percent lead over APC’s Tinubu and PDP’s Abubakar who each got 13 percent of the votes to end up as joint second in the poll.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, was fourth with three percent of the votes.

“Mr. Peter Obi’s 8 percentage point lead at this early stage is significant, but not sufficient to separate him completely from a leading pack of candidates scoring 21%, 13%, and 13% respectively,” said a statement by Anap Foundation’s President and Founder, Mr Atedo Peterside, CON.

“Undecided voters and those who prefer not to reveal their preferred candidate add up to a whopping 32% and 15% respectively.

“The gender split of undecided voters shows that 39% of women are undecided versus 27% of male voters.”

CrimeHushpuppi Hires Invictus Obi’s Lawyer In Last-minute Push To Avoid 11 Years Jail by NwaNimo1(op): 11:24pm On Sep 14, 2022
Indicted internet fraudster Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas has employed the services of top attorney John Iweanoge in a bid to abridge his impending jail sentence from 11 years as suggested by United States prosecutors. grin

Mr Iweanoge is a top Washington D.C. criminal defence attorney popular among Nigerian suspects charged in Virginia and Maryland, especially.

In a pro hac vice application filed before the United States District Court in the Central District of California and obtained by Peoples Gazette, Mr Abbas named Mr Iweanoge as his attorney.

“APPLICATION of Non-Resident Attorney John O. Iweanoge, II to Appear Pro Hac Vice on behalf of Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas (Pro Hac Vice Fee – $500 Fee Paid, Receipt No. ACACDC-33979986) Filed by Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas. (Attachments: # (1) Proposed Order G-64 Order for Pro Hac Vice Admission) (Khouri, Michael),” the document said.

The pro hac vice application allows the addition of an attorney to a case in a jurisdiction in which they are not licensed to practice. Mr Iweanoge, whose law offices are located in Washington, DC, will be now be able to defend Mr Abbas in court without committing unauthorised practice of law.

Mr Iweanoge had defended now-imprisoned Nigerian fraudster Obinwanne ‘Invictus’ Okeke. Mr Okeke was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in a computer-based intrusion fraud scheme that caused about $11 million in losses to his victims.

Mr Abbas’s actions come as his sentencing hearing is slated for September 21. The Gazette reported on Thursday that his attorney Louis Shapiro and U.S. officials sparred in court as Mr Abbas tries to delay his sentencing until November.

Mr Shapiro argued that Mr Abbas would be unable to prepare for his sentencing hearing without all the documents relating to the Juma Case. The charges on the Juma case had been dropped by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in line with a plea bargain deal.

Prosecutors, led by Khaldoun Shobaki, maintained that there was no reason to “further delay the already long-delayed sentencing in this case,” adding that Mr Abbas admitted playing a leading role in the scheme when he pleaded guilty on April 20, 2021.

Mr Shobaki had asked a federal judge to sentence Mr Abbas to 11 years in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a multinational conspiracy that earned him millions of dollars between 2019 and 2020.

Mr Shobaki suggested that Mr Abbas should be asked to pay $1.7 million in restitution, $500,000 in fines, and $100 in administrative fees ahead of his sentencing.

Mr Abbas had previously tried to seek a release on humanitarian grounds, but Judge Otis D. Wright declined his pleas for failing to comply with extant court rules.

Mr Abbas has been in custody since his arrest in Dubai and transfer to the United States in June 2020.

PoliticsVote For Competence Not Religion, Ethnicity: Obi Tells Nigerians by NwaNimo1(op): 9:12pm On Sep 13, 2022
Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, has urged Nigerians to vote for candidates based on competence, character and not sentiments in the 2023 general election. cool

Obi said this at a two-day Leadership Retreat with the theme “Nigeria at a Crossroad; Labour Party the Only Option in Abuja.

According to him, the job of a leader is to solve problems and not to give excuses or blame other people.

He promised to solve the challenges facing the country, if elected as the president in 2023.

Obi promised to sign a performance agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress to make sure that ideas generated at the retreat were followed to the latter.

“Enough is enough for the blame game, I won’t offer anybody any excuse.

“That is why election next year will not be based on ethnicity, it will not be based on religion, there is no place Christians buy things cheaper, there is no place Muslims buy things cheaper.

“It will not be by my turn, it is nobody’s turn. It must not be by connection.

“Election next year must be based on character and trust; it must be based on competence,” he said.

He said that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike could be solved easily with little more efforts by the government.

Obi while unveiling the LP portal and free membership cards for Nigerians to join the party, said they were building a party where people would not have to borrow money to contest election.

The LP Chairman, Mr Julius Abure, said the retreat was aimed at reviewing the party’s successes and challenges by designing the roadmap for the 2023 election.

Abure said that the nation was faced with so many challenges ranging from economic to security.

“Peter Obi’s emergence as presidential candidate has brought a lot of new registrants into our fold and transformed the 2023 context into a National Movement. The ObIdients.

“The logo of our party is Father Mother and Child in a wheel, we believe in equal opportunity and social justice.

“The party specifically champions the rights of women, children and all the oppressed in the society,” he said.

Abure said that an elected LP government would work hand in hand with trade unions, civil servants and the private sector to rebuild Nigeria with its strong economic development strategy.

Mr Ayuba Wabba, President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said the party would tackle unemployment and corruption which was an organised crime against the Nigerian public if elected.

Wabba urged workers to work toward good governance in the country by supporting the party in 2023 poll.(NAN)
