Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi met with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt on Friday. The meeting was held behind closed doors at the private residence of Mr Wike. The duo have previously met in Port Harcourt more than once in the past months. “It was nice hosting my brother Peter Obi once again,” Wike said in a Facebook post. Although the purpose of the meeting is not yet known, it may not be unconnected with Obi’s presidential ambitions in 2023. Peter Obi met with Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt on September 30, 2022. Earlier, Mr Obi had met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan. “I was at Ibadan, and I visited my brother and friend, HE Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State as part of my consultations ahead of the 2023 general elections,” Obi said in a tweet. “We had very frank and constructive discussions.” Although both Mr Wike and Mr Makinde are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, they are part of a camp within the PDP that has vowed not to campaign for the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The camp is calling for the exit of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu. https://www.channelstv.com/2022/09/30/again-wike-hosts-peter-obi-in-port-harcourt/ https://www.channelstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Untitled-1-9.png https://www.channelstv.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Untitled-1-10.png |

Court Okays Obi Supporters’ Rally In Lagos, Asks Them Not To Converge On Lekki Toll Gate A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday ruled that the planned rally by Peter Obi supporters, tagged #Obidatti23 Forward Ever, scheduled for October 1, in Lagos, cannot converge on Lekki Toll Gate. The court, however, said the rally can march through the toll plaza and continue to other locations. The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Daniel Osiagor, ordered the organisers of the rally not to gather at the toll gate, their planned convergence point. The court also directed the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the order. The judge’s decision comes on the day political parties were billed to officially begin their campaigns across the country. Ten plaintiffs, including nine lawyers, had approached the court seeking to restrain Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed; and the party’s supporters from holding the rally in Lagos. The plaintiffs argued that the rally could cause a breakdown of law and order and a repeat of the October 20, 2020, incident where soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters who gathered at the toll gate. The defendants filed a notice of preliminary objection seeking to stop the court from hearing the motion on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction. The court adjourned till November 4 for hearing to enable parties in the suit to be served. The plaintiffs included Adedotun Ajulo, Salamatu Suleiman Lewi, Hakeem Ijaduola, Ogunbona Akinpelu, Owolabi Oluwasegun, Mogbojuri Kayode, Wuyep Mantim Nadom, Dimimu Mabel, Kolawole Salami, and Wale Abe Lawrence. The 1st to 10th defendants in the suit marked FHC/L/ CS/1729/2022 are Mr. Obi, LP, Mr. Baba-Ahmed, Mr. Abure, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Commissioner of Police (Lagos State Command), Director-General (Department of State Services), Lekki Concession Company (LCC) Limited, Attorney-General of Lagos State, and the Governor of Lagos State. The plaintiffs in the suit marked FHC/L/CS/1729/2022, had argued that a repeat or celebration of the “infamous” EndSARS protest of 2020 under the political guise of “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally” will cause a breakdown of peace and will result in post-traumatic stress disorder for them and the public. They prayed the court for fourreliefs:“Anorderof interim injunction restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants; their associates and loyalists from conducting the scheduled EndSARS rally tagged as the “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally on the 1st of October, 2020 or any other subsequent date, at the Lekki Toll Gate until the hearing and determination of the motion-on-notice dated September 12, 2022. “An order of interim injunction restraining the 1st 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants and their loyalists from further planning and promoting the scheduled EndSARS rally tagged as the “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally. “An order of interim injunction restraining the 5th 6th, 7th defendants from allowing or granting permissions to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants, their agents, and the organisers of “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally” at the behest of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants from carrying out the said anniversary on the 1st of October, 2022 and any other subsequent date. “An order of interim injunction restraining the 8th defendant (LCC) from granting permission to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants; their agents, privies, allies, and loyalists, to make use of the Lekki Toll Gate or any space under and within the control of the 8th defendant for carrying out the said anniversary on the 1st of October, 2022 and any other subsequent date.”. https://independent.ng/court-okays-obi-supporters-rally-in-lagos-asks-them-not-to-converge-on-lekki-toll-gate/ |

Obi/Datti movement: Tinubu is ailing, Osinbanjo should have been better for APC – Pat Utomi A chieftain of the Labour Party and founder of Centre for Value in Leadership, Prof. Patrick Okedinachi Utomi, has stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC, made a mistake by fielding an ailing person to be the flag bearer of the party come 2023 presidential election. He said that the vice president Yemi Osinbajo should have been the best candidate for the party instead of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking on Channels television programme, The Politics Today, the economic expert noted that Tinubu is physically ailing, saying that Osinbajo would have been the best candidate for APC. Giving reasons, Pat said Osinbajo is young, healthier, intelligent and vibrant unlike APC presidential candidate. ![]() However, when asked to speak on the support of Afenifere to the Obi/Datti Movement, Prof Pat said he wasn’t surprised when the association announced its support for Obi/Datti, noting that Afenifere was built on moral principles, equity, fairness and inclusiveness. He stated that Afenifere has moral authority and has alliance with PADEF, Middle Belt groups, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and has all it takes to make Obi/Datti win the forthcoming election. Also, speaking on how Peter Obi would defeat Tinubu, Atiku and other presidential candidate, the erudite Prof opined: “People have had enough of the politics that does not work for them. Politics that does not favour them. They are tired of these politicians. They are fed up of the old political order. The young people are revolting against the order that does not work for them. “Life is increasingly meaningless to them and that’s why they will vote for Peter Obi. Nigerians want something different. They want a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Speaking on the structures of his party, Utomi said: “The structures of these (APC, PDP and others) is stealing people’s money and using it to fund thugs. “Labour Party is people oriented. These ongoing rallies are people sponsored/oriented. Labour Party did not contribute shishi to it. “This tells you that Nigerians are tired of the old order.” Why Afenifere supported Obi/Datti The leader of the pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has said that Peter Obi of LP is the man the association trust to restructure the country back to federalism on assumption of office in 2023. He said Afenifere’s decision to support Peter Obi was because power is yet to shift to the South East. His words: “We cannot continue to demand that the Igbo people remain in Nigeria, while we at the same time continue to brutally marginalize and exclude them from the power dynamic. “Peter Obi is the person of Igbo extraction that Afenifere has decided to support and to back, he is the man we trust to restructure the country back to federalism on the assumption of office. “We will not compromise this principle of justice, equity and inclusiveness because one of our own Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a frontline candidate. “It is on this same principle, we condemn the PDP for sponsoring Atiku Abubakar, a Northern Fulani Muslim to succeed General Muhammadu Buhari another Fulani Muslim who will soon complete 8 years of uneventful and disastrous rule. One can imagine such a high degree of political insensitivity. On our part, we are certainly not alien to sacrificing personal interests in the quest for a National coalition to put Nigeria on the proper pedestal. “In this regard, the starting point is Southern solidarity for which we first enacted a handshake across the Niger, which had dovetailed to the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum. We enjoin the labour movement, students, youth organisations, women associations, and every institution whose foundation is built on fairness and justice to join hands in this task of enthroning a democratic government by supporting Peter Obi. If we are sincere and honest about keeping Nigeria together in peace, the slogan henceforth should be ‘To keep Nigeria one, everyone should be Obi/Datti compliant.’ In the final analysis, let it be said that we have no apologies but due courage of our conviction that Nigeria can only prosper in righteousness. “For me, in the twilight of my sojourn on earth at 94, it is too late to derail me on the track of true federalism and National inclusiveness on which I have travelled for over 70 years of my life as one of the few surviving initial prophets, I prefer to ascend on a chariot of fire, fueled by justice and equity.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/09/obi-datti-movement-tinubu-is-ailing-osinbanjo-should-have-been-better-for-apc-pat-utomi/ |

LEADER of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, stated that the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation has decided to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, because he is the man that the group can trust to restructure the country. ![]() Adebanjo said Obi could bring the country back to federalism on the assumption of office in 2023. At a press conference held today at Whitebaker Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Adebanjo said Afenifere would not compromise its principle of equity, justice and inclusiveness even though a candidate from the Southwest, Bola Tinubu, is also contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Before the political parties conducted their primaries, a journalist asked what is my view about the 2023 general elections. I answered and said the country should be restructured before the general elections, and he followed up by asking if there should be an election, which zone should the Presidency come from? And I unhesitatingly said, of course, the South East,” the Afenifere leader said. Adebanjo went further to say that after the primaries and the candidates emerged, not a few Yoruba leaders questioned why he should be supporting Obi of Igbo extraction against Tinubu, a Yoruba. He said he took his time to explain that the Presidency is not a contest between the Yorubas and the Igbos, and to a large extent, he convinced many. “Let me state here for the benefit of those who may not know that Afenifere is the Yoruba interpretation of the social welfarist ideology of Action Group, a political party founded by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his colleagues in 1951 with strong advocacy for federalism as the best form of government to give the federating units the requisite autonomy to thrive and peacefully compete among themselves for the ultimate development of Nigeria. “The system was eventually agreed to by our founding fathers, Sir Ahmad Bello, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and endorsed by the Colonial Secretary, Sir Oliver Littleton, in 1954 and embodied in the 1960 independence constitution,” he said. The nonagenarian said that long before the parties conducted their Conventions to elect their National Executives and candidates, the group had insisted on and still advocates restructuring before the elections and proposed a synthesis of the identical Resolutions of the 2014 National Conference and the APC El Rufai 2018 True Federalism Committee. He said the group did this in association with the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF). “We did this when politicians, in spite of the monumental crises confronting the nation, carried on as if the attainment of power was all that mattered. The SMBLF unanimously proposed that the minimum condition for a peaceful transition from the disastrous eight years of Buhari’s government headed by a President of northern extraction was to have the next President from the South,” he said. He added that the group’s position was also supported by all the southern governors, irrespective of their political parties, at a meeting held in Asaba, Delta State. ![]() He said the nation could not continue to demand that the Igbo people remain in Nigeria, while at the same time continue to marginalise and exclude them from the power dynamics. He maintained that Obi is the person that Afenifere has decided to support and back because he is the man they trust to restructure the country back to federalism on the assumption of office. “We will not compromise this principle of justice, equity and inclusiveness because one of our own AsiwajuTinubu is a frontline candidate,” Adebanjo stated. He condemned the PDP for sponsoring Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner, to succeed President Buhari, another northerner. https://www.icirnigeria.org/2023-why-we-decide-to-support-peter-obi-ayo-adebanjo/ https://www.icirnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Peter-Obi-and-Pa-Ayo-Adebanjo.jpg |

The impact of the foreign exchange (forex) scarcity is biting harder, with the naira stooping as low as N73 to the dollar at the black market on Monday in Lagos. ![]() Black market traders Monday morning revealed that a dollar exchanged for as high as N730 for buyers and N720 for those trying to sell. The traders confirmed that there was a surge in dollar demand over the weekend and could worsen within the week. Rates, yesterday were a 2.24 per cent loss in value for Naira when compared to N714 traders exchanging dollars on Friday. With the current rate, the naira has depreciated by 29.20 per cent from N565 per dollar at the beginning of the year. Nigeria’s currency has been on a free fall on the black market, but for Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), an unregulated market is “a tainted market in Nigeria, where people desire to deal in illegal foreign exchange (FX) transactions including sourcing of FX cash for purposes of offering bribes, corruption. That is where they deal.” CBN also advised Nigerians to resist the urge to succumb to the speculative activities of some players in the foreign exchange market. Meanwhile, at the Investors and Exporters (I&E) forex window, also known as the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Rate Fixing (NAFEX), and the official market, naira appreciated marginally by 0.04 per cent as the dollar was quoted at N436.33/$ on Friday as against N436.50/$ quoted the previous day. https://www.blueprint.ng/forex-scarcity-naira-crashes-to-all-time-record-low-of-n730/ |

ABUJA: the Labour Party (LP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) over increasing attacks on its supporters. In a statement obtained by Daily Independent, National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi said, “that the APC has officially adopted violent attacks on LP’s presidential candidate support groups across the states of the nation.” The party lamented that despite the earlier position by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, that the LP flag bearer is not known beyond the South East, the APC “has been caught up by retributive justice to be frustrated into violence by the share strong, heavy and frightening huge crowd of loyal willing supporters of Peter right in the centre of his self – deluded political safe – zone.” The statement reads in part, “Our party attention was drawn to a mercilessly co-ordinated assault and attacked by the military wing of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Katsina State Chapter on the peace-loving Obedient political movement supporters of the Mr Peter Gregory Obi, the incoming President of the federal republic of Nigeria come May 29th 2022. “It is fast getting very much clearer that the APC has officially adopted violent attacks on LP’s Presidential Candidate support group across the States of the Nation. LP finds this trend quite unacceptable and condemn the growing terrorism of APC in virtually some APC controlled State in the Nation. “Once again, LP has to re-emphasise the fact that no one political party has a monopoly of crude and organized violence. It is an irony that a sitting Governor who has earlier so pompously claimed that Peter Obi is not known beyond the South East has been caught up by retributive justice to be frustrated into violence by the share strong, heavy and frightening huge crowd of loyal willing supporters of Peter right in the centre of his self – deluded political safe – zone.” While calling for the redeployment of the State Commissioner of police, Abayomi in the statement called on security agencies to be up to task ahead of the poll. He stressed that they must not continue to appear helpless in the face of attacks on its supporters. The statement further said that “With the ongoing level of insecurity to properties and lives of the people in KATSINA as a result of banditry, mass killings, very many rampant and audacious cases of kidnappings in this KATSINA State, it is quite disheartening that rather than try to confront these large scale terrors, the Government of KATSINA chose to ignore insurgency only to get busy in using weapons of destruction against the harmless and peaceful Obedient supporters. “The APC that has technically surrendered to the Insurgents as it opted for begging and negotiating with the terror groups finds it so appropriate to visit innocent Citizens with official terror as it fails woefully at protecting the lives and properties of the Katsina State residents who live in daily fear of terrorists. “How could this very clueless and incompetent Govt of APC against the ever growing band of kidnappers and bandits win, when the arms bought with tax payers money are simply shared to APC party thugs and hoodlums. “The APC Federal and State Govts are cancers in the seat of Governance everywhere they are ruling. In Katsina State at the moment for a Citizen to travel from one town or village to another is a matter of life and death because of the danger posed by the terrorists who appear to have tactical cover and support from the APC Govts . “This increasing violence being employed by the APC Governments in the Nation is so much smelling of political conspiracy within the rank and file of APC and it confirms the wide suspicion that APC covers, sustains and indirectly empower terror in the Nation. It is well that APC has chosen to from this early show its intentions to grow political violence in the country ahead of the 2023 elections which translates to mean that the SECURITY AGENCIES should not begin to think that excuses and or alibis would do when the come eventually become the come and the chips are down.” The party therefore stressed that “that there is fast approaching a time when LP will not be able to control the anger of its loyal supporters who are always the direct victims of the APC organized violence. “Notwithstanding the crude ways and means of APC , it is quite clearly and loudly shown by the Voting Public that the people have finally and irreversibly decided to effect a change in Aso Rock in the coming election and intimidations and harassment can not help APC in anyway. Nigeria and Nigerians are tired of a crippled Governance by the APC and are are now fully prepared to take their Nation back from APC . “Though it may be unbearable for the dying and decaying APC not to be too much receptive of the current political reality that Peter Obi/ Datti has fully become a political tsunami in view of the fact that this their Presidential Candidacy is now fully supported by over 33million registered voters , a figure that daily increases which can before the next election cross the figure of 60 million. Because this clear massive support is unprecedented and never seen in the past in Nigeria, and such support cuts across religion and tribe, the Obi/ Datti phenomenon right now directly points to its making a political history new and unseen before in Nigeria.” https://independent.ng/you-dont-have-monopoly-over-violence-labour-party-warns-apc/ |
