President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will win the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Buhari stated this on Wednesday in an interview in the United Kingdom after meeting with His Royal Majesty, King Charles III in Buckingham Palace.

According the President, APC is lucky to have Tinubu as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

When asked the chances of the APC in the 2023 elections, Buhari said, “What are the chances of my party not winning the election? We are going to win the election.

“Tinubu, the presidential candidate, a very well-known politician in the country, he was a two-term governor in Lagos State, the most resourceful state and the most visited state. So, I think the party was lucky to get him to be the candidate,” he added.

Recall Tinubu contested presidential primary in June alongside Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

More than 2,300 delegates voted in the contest that produced Tinubu, who polled a total of 1,271 votes – over four times the votes scored by his closet rival, Amaechi who had 316 votes.

Osinbajo, Lawan, and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State came behind the duo with 235, 152, and 47 votes respectively.

Tinubu will be contesting the presidency in 2023 alongside frontline contenders including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the News Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

IPOB party and Criminals in PDP get no chance

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has brokered peace in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following a crisis that has recently rocked the party in the state.

PlatinumPost reports that crisis last week broke out between the Majority Leader and member representing Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency, Alhassan Ado Doguwa and the deputy gubernatorial candidate of APC, Murtala Sule Garo.

Doguwa wa accused of throwing a teacup at Garo during a stakeholders meeting at the residence of the state’s Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, reportedly injuring the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Majority Leader however denied the allegations and vowed to continue fighting Garo to the end.

However, Doguwa, on Monday confirmed the reconciliation to newsmen in Kano.

He said the reconciliation was spearheaded by Ganduje, who summoned the two warring parties in a meeting with some party’s leaders in Kano.

“His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has reconciled between me and Murtala Sule Garo.

“He summoned the reconciliatory meeting between us. The meeting was attended by Nasiru Aliko Koki and the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas. The meeting started since around 11pm up to 4am of today (Monday).

“We reviewed the crisis and apologized to each other. The governor told us kind words. He showed each of us where we are wrong. He gave us fatherly advices and said he considers us as his two sons,” Doguwa revealed.

The Majority Leader, therefore declared that he had put the matter behind him and forged ahead to continue commitment towards the success of APC in Kano and the country.

“The matter is over to me. I will continue my support to the success of APC in 2023. I will continue to support Gawuna/Garo, Tinubu/Shettima and APC at all level in 2023,” he declared.

Doguwa also said he had forgiven Garo and all other party members that offended him, calling on them to forgive him too.

He also asked for forgiveness from Kano people and supporters of APC in Kano for causing disaffection in the party.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has tackled the acting leader of the pan-Yoruba organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, for backing the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Naija News reports that Adebanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi has caused a division in Afenifere, with another faction loyal to the group Emeritus leader, Reuben Fasoranti, endorsing the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) Chairman in Borno State, Hon Ali Dalori has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Borno as as money mongers who only appears during the electioneering period, every four years and deceive their Presidential candidate in order to collect money and disappear.

Hon. Dalori who disclosed this in an interview with journalists at the APC Secretariat in Maiduguri during the weekend said “tell me, who is known among the PDP members in Borno, . They just come during electioneering campaign, deceive their Presidential candidate and collect money and disappear immediately after general election. They are just political traders.

“This time around, they brought one unknown small boy as their gubernatorial candidate, thinking that they will wrestle power from APC in Borno. They are dreamers, they just want to deceive Atiku and collect money and disappear after elections” , he alleged.

He said “nobody can dislodge Governor Babagana Zulum because of his outstanding performance despite the Boko Haram insurgency, he has done credibility, wherever, you go, Nigerians are hailing him because of his humility and achievements”.

“Throughout the 13 tear of Boko Haram insurgency, neither Atiku nor any PDP member in the state have assisted the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) but Governor Zulum have been personally going round the nooks and crannies of the state to distribute food, cash and other non- food items in order to bring succour to his people”, the APC chieftain stressed.

Dalori further stated that no citizen of Borno state in his right senses would vote for PDP because it is as a result of PDP misrule and no care attitude that drew the state into Boko Haram insurgency, stressing that he was amazed to hear Dino Malaye accusing, the APC Vice Presidential, Senator, Kashim Shettima of allowing Boko Haram to grow but has forgotten that Boko Haram started during PDP government.

He cautioned Malaye to always think very well before saying anything, and advised Nigerians and Borno state people in particular not to vote for PDP.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Hon. Agbedi said they were alarmed that the ministry undermine the disaster in Bayelsa and its devastating impact by placing Jigawa as number one.

Specifically, the lawmaker said the minister was wrong, saying that thousands were wounded and hundreds of the citizens died.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to an address by the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on the 3rd of November, 2022 where she said Bayelsa State is not amongst the top 10 most affected states by the 2022 flood that is currently ravaging some states in the country.

“She is reported to have made the comments in response to the plea from elder statesman, Chief E.K. Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum imploring the Federal Government to act quickly by immediately providing relief materials to the victims of the flood in the Niger Delta State, especially in Bayelsa. The Minister’s assumption is based on the following: the number of deaths and displaced persons per state; the number of injured; the number of partially damaged houses; the number of totally damaged houses and the number of farmlands totally and partially damaged.

“Surprisingly, she put the number of persons injured in Bayelsa State at 81 and the number of deaths at 91. The Minister is wrong. Reports from the Flood Management Committee and traditional rulers indicate that, thousands are wounded and hundreds of our citizens died. Infact, even one dead person is enough for our country to show responsibility and sympathy to her people. We wish to bring to the Minister’s attention that the entire Niger Delta States of Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Imo and Cross River are highly impacted.

“The comments of the Minister are at variance with the statement of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Matthias Schmale who declared Bayelsa a disaster zone.

“It is an undeniable fact that Bayelsa State is not only cut off from the rest of the country but 80% of the landmass at peak of the flood was submerged with over 70% of the inhabitants displaced as a result of the flood. It suffices to state, that there are glaring evidence that has shown the world where the flood is worst hit in Nigeria, testimonies from highly placed Nigerians who visited the state, of the devastating effect of the flood.

“Even the Cable News Network and Aljazeera on the 17th and 26th of October, 2022 respectively aired it. The Shell-Gbarain Ubie Gas Gathering Plant in Bayelsa State (1 billion Standard Cubic feet of gas and up to Seventy Thousand barrels of oil per day) the largest in west Africa was affected by the flood necessitating the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Plant at Bonny Island in Rivers State to declare a force majeure.

“It is therefore saddening to see a disaster been turned to the usual dirty politics of some public office holders taking advantage of every situation to subjugate some regions of the country by telling blatant falsehood. As we speak, Bayelsa State is the only state that you cannot link by road to the western flank of Nigeria through Delta

State and to the eastern flank of Nigeria through Rivers State, almost the entire State has been under water with all schools, including the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, Niger Delta Teaching Hospital Teaching Hospital, Federal University, Otueke, University of Africa, Toru-Orua and Federal Polytechnic Ekowe closed down. The State can only be connected through the waterways or by air. So, how does the Minister even dare to compare such a badly hit State to any other?

“We, the Niger Delta members of the House of Representatives, strongly and unequivocally condemn in strong terms, the statement credited to the Honorable Minister as insensitive, unpatriotic and unnationalistic. While we are not denying the fact that other states in the federation are also affected, the comparison and figures given by the Honorable Minister shows a glaring attempt to downplay the harsh reality on ground. We are talking of human beings, fellow Nigerians and not some aliens.

“The figures are not only an insult to the good people of Bayelsa State but to all the victims of the flood who have gone through the trauma of braving the elements by sleeping outside on dugout canoes, roof tops and flood water floors.

“The Honourable Minister instead of visiting the affected areas to get first hand information and empathize with the victims is relying on some armchair statistician from far away Abuja to paint a fake picture to Nigerians. It is unfortunate that a state like Bayelsa that contributes massively to the economy of the nation is abandoned at its time of need.

“We want to further use this medium to commend the executive governor of Bayelsa and other Niger Delta States, for displaying the much needed leadership in this trying times and to call on the federal government to act swiftly as their ambivalence, especially with the recent remark by the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs is not one to be desired.

“We call on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to honourably resign her appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria failing which Mr. President should relieve her of her appointment immediately.”
