MTN has found a convenient way of allowing you register your SIM using your BVN Number. To save you the time from the long queues in various SIM registration centers and the stress involved. To proceed, all you have to do is text BVN, BVN Number, Mother’s maiden name (like the one in the image below) to 799. I believe this will definitely help cut the stress. And please share with your friends. More @ https://techmzy./2016/01/29/you-can-now-update-your-mtn-sim-registration-via-your-bvn-number/

Facebook’s Android and iPhone apps still aren’t great. The both apps has had bugs that cause it to drain battery in the background, they consume your mobile data, takes a lot of your space and can equally make your phone slow. Rather than put up with the awful app, you can use Facebook’s fairly full-featured mobile site instead for a less annoying experience. Add the website to your home screen and you can launch it in one tap, just like the app. On Android, you can even get push notifications from Facebook via Up browser, Mozilla Firefox, Opera mobile, Google Chrome. And if that weren’t enough, you can send and receive messages on the mobile site — without having to download Facebook Messenger! For chrome browser, head to facebook.com in your web browser app and sign in. When you first visit the website, you’ll be informed that Facebook wants to send you notifications. Tap “Allow” and you’ll get Facebook notifications via Google Chrome. This feature will only work in Google Chrome, at least for now, so you’ll need Chrome as your web browser to use it. You can also try it out on other great browsers. If you change your mind later, and don’t want notifications, you can tap the menu button in Chrome, tap “Settings,” tap “Site settings” under Advanced, tap “Notifications,” and remove the notification permission from m.facebook.com. How to disable or uninstall the app from your Android phone, you can generally locate the Facebook app icon in your app drawer, long-press it, and drag it to a trash icon or something similar to uninstall it. This may work differently on different phones, depending on the customizations your manufacturer made to your phone’s version of Android. If this doesn’t work, open the Settings page, tap the “Apps” category, tap the “Facebook” app, and tap “Uninstall”. If there is no “Uninstall” button, it’s likely because your manufacturer preinstalled it on your phone, and you aren’t allowed to uninstall it. A “Disable” button should appear here instead, though; tap that to disable the app instead. Sure, this is an old tip, but it’s amazing how many people are still struggling with Facebook’s app when there’s such a better option available. The mobile site looks almost exactly like the app, and with modern mobile web browsers faster than ever, the Facebook website is pretty snappy. Add in the ability to send messages and (on Android) push notifications, and this is a killer solution. This also works for other social media services that provide half-decent mobile websites, of course. You could use this same process for Twitter, for example. Ever wondered what the entire universe might look like? The universe is so vast it’s almost impossible to picture what it might look like crammed into one field of view. But musician Pablo Carlos Budassi managed to do it by combining logarithmic maps of the universe from Princeton and images from NASA. He created the image below that shows the observable universe in one disc. Our sun and solar system are at the very center of the image, followed by the outer ring of our Milky Way galaxy, the Perseus arm of the Milky Way, a ring of other nearby galaxies like Andromeda, the rest of the cosmic web, cosmic microwave background radiation leftover from the big bang, and finally a ring of plasma also generated by the big bang. Social media is the intersection of tech and culture, and Instagram happens to be the fastest-growing social media site at the moment with more than 400 million users. Most of those users, like me, don’t have 5 thousand followers and post pretty sporadically. What follows is a list of the most popular Instagrams on the planet and my impressions of what makes them effective. Now obviously you have to be pretty famous to be one of the 11 most-followed people on Instagram, but it isn’t just about that, because these aren’t the 11 most famous people and brands on earth by any means. #11 – @cristiano Cristiano Ronaldo 46,139,219 followers Be honest. He’s one of the most famous football players in the world and he uses his Instagram mostly to show what he does, which is a lot of practice and working out. #10 – @nickiminaj Nicki Minaj 46,290,354 followers If you’re going to sell yourself, don’t sell yourself short. Nicky’s profile definitely shows off a big personality. She also posts a good deal of cheesy inspirational memes which I always think is kind of funny/odd. #9 – @kendalljenner Kendall Jenner 47,320,317 followers Instagram is a tool. Use it. I imagine that Instagram is a somewhat significant part of Kendall Jenner’s life. She’s part of the #millennial wave that is really using the service as a tool to brand themselves as lifestyle icons/brands. Modeling is particularly apt for the platform and she uses it well. #8 – @kyliejenner Kylie Jenner 49,177,303 followers I really can’t talk about the Kardashian clan this seriously anymore, just click to the next one please. #7 – @justinbieber Justin Bieber 55,257,716 followers Justin Bieber gets an unbelievably higher amount of likes than almost anyone on this list. If you can cultivate a following as involved as he has, run for the hills. #6 – @arianagrande Ariana Grande 57,185,771 followers Ariana engages with her fans really well and reposts fan’s pictures and responds to them. She also posts a lot of downloaded Snapchat videos as Instagrams, which I kind of find odd but whatever. #5 – @beyonce Beyonce 57,862,639 followers Beyonce has a very normal Instagram. It’s just that her life looks like it rocks, so it comes off a lot more awesome than ours do. #4 – @kimkardashian Kim Kardashian 58,690,308 followers The Kardashians really are insane. They have their own apps, they upload tons of photos every day, they post posts of them posting posts. You can’t just chalk up the fact that they all have some of the most massive followings due to them just being who they are. Instagram was made for the type of culture Kim Kardashian embodies: big visual moments on display. #3 – @selenagomez Selena Gomez 62,345,729 followers Selena’s lesson to the world is to look good all the time and have fun while you’re doing it. Thanks Selena. #2 – @taylorswift Taylor Swift 64,032,886 followers It’s important to show who you ride with. Taylor uploads posts with a bunch of fellow celebrities which enhance her street cred and the reputations of those she’s pictured with. #1 – @instagram 134,069,908 followers Own your turf and don’t overthink it. You’re a person not a brand, unless you’re a brand marketer in which case take all of this advice to heart. https://techmzy./2016/01/30/here-is-the-list-of-11-most-followed-instagram-account-2016/ #(11- ![]()

The most frustrating parts of using Snapchat is trying to find and add new people. Which is either by taking a photo of a friend’s BooR code (cumbersome), or search for their username (annoying, especially when usernames are weird and long). But today Snapchat has fixed that problem. The company has quietly added a new feature in its most recent update: the ability to grab a personalized URL (like http://snapchat.com/add/nze4al) to send to friends who want to follow you. Under the Add Friends section in the app’s drop-down menu, there’s now a new “share username” option. Tapping on it will give you a personalized URL to share with anyone you want. When a person clicks on the URL, the account it belongs to will immediately be added to that person’s friend list. Snapchat’s entire function necessitates having friends who also use the app, so maybe this is an effort to make it easier for users without the snap power of celebs to grow the size of their follower group. Because if you add a snap to your story and no friends saw it, did the snap ever really exist? When it comes to fashion design, inspiration can come from anywhere — even your kitchen junk drawer. Edgar Artis uses things like matches and tin foil to give his gorgeous designs some extra oomph. He either directly adds the everyday materials to the paper, or creates cut-outs that he holds up to the objects he wants to incorporate in his designs. “I was inspired by Shamekh Bluwi and Kristina Webb,” Artis told A Plus. “And now I’m looking for inspiration in almost every object.” Check out some of his designs below: 1. Why have phablets become so popular? Many think it’s because people don’t want to buy a phone and a tablet, but there are a number of other clear advantages to owning one. #1. Screen quality It’s no secret that mobiles are growing larger by the year. Phablets, which are generally regarded as any smartphone measuring in at 5.5 inches and above, are huge right now. The fact that Apple, which was once so opposed to big-screen phones, has joined the phablet fanfare demonstrates just how in-demand they are. The most obvious benefits of owning a phone so large come with the screen. Phablets are usually blessed with stunning displays that are great for watching movies, playing games and reading. They’re very popular amongst commuters for these very reasons. While LG and Samsung were quick to embrace super-sharp QHD panels, Full HD on a large screen still provides a superb viewing experience. #2. Performance and battery life Since phablets are also more likely to be used for gaming purposes than smaller smartphones, they tend to run on more powerful hardware. Almost all of the mobiles in this round-up can handle complex 3D titles without issue, making them ideal choices for intrepid gamers. Big phones tend to come with enlarged batteries, and phablets are very well-endowed in this department. Forget about worrying whether your mobile will last the day; most phablets can go for around two days between charges, and some can last even longer. #3. Other things to consider Design and ergonomics are always important areas to think about when buying a smartphone, but they’re particularly important with phablets due to their size. Most manufacturers are putting every effort into making their large-screen smartphones as user-friendly as possible, whether that’s through a slim frame, a dedicated stylus, centrally-positioned soft keys or a one-handed operation mode. However, we’d still recommend trying one out in a shop first, especially if you have small hands. Make sure they can fit in your pockets too. Extra features like fingerprint scanners, NFC and microSD card slots can also have a huge effect on the overall user experience. https://techmzy./2016/01/20/what-you-need-to-know-about-phablets-why-should-you-buy-one/

It’s no secret that smartphones are notorious battery hogs, with some devices having an almost embarrassing screen-on time. Those big luscious AMOLED and LCD screens are an obvious drain on your battery, but did you know there’s lots of things you can do behind the scenes to get the most out of your Android, particularly with Marshmallow on the horizon? Read on for our best battery saving tips to make your battery last longer. 1.Black wallpaper can save battery If your phone has an AMOLED screen (like most Samsung devices), use a dark-colored background. Black wallpaper can save your battery because AMOLED screens only illuminate the colored pixels. Black pixels are unlit, so the more black pixels you have, or the more darker pixels, the less battery you need to light them up. 2. Doze With the arrival of Marshmallow comes a new feature called Doze, which helps you get more out of your device’s battery. Along with Google Now on Tap, Doze is the most notable addition to Marshmallow. It is enabled by default and essentially allows your device to enter hibernation mode when it has been sat unused for a prolonged period of time. What it means is that instead of your phone losing up to a quarter of its battery life while you yourself doze, your phone now gets some rest, too, losing only 3-5 percent of its battery life during the night. Apps are not obliged to use Doze, but you can view which apps do and do not use it in the settings and remove them accordingly, if you want to. In addition, Sony has said it’s planning to incorporate its own enhanced stamina mode into Marshmallow on the Sony Xperia Z5. 3. Use dark themes and settings Using darker app backgrounds/themes and darker launcher themes will further prolong your battery life (but only if your device has an AMOLED screen). The first version of the Android M developer preview had a stock dark theme (which was subsequently removed). This could means big things for system-wide stock theme support, if it returns in the final Android M release. 4. Don’t use adaptive/auto brightness Don’t use display auto-brightness. It may sound good, but auto-brightness is usually way brighter than you really need. It’s much better to manually set a super low brightness level that is still comfortable, and then just bump it up when necessary. This is one of the main ways to improve your battery life as the screen is one of the biggest battery suckers. 5. A shorter screen timeout setting saves battery Set your display’s screen timeout to as short a time as is practical for you. Just think, if your screen timeout is set to a minute, it’ll use four times the amount of power to have it on, every time you switch your screen on, than if your timeout is set to 15 seconds. Studies report the average smartphone user turns their smartphone on 150 times a day, so anything you can do to limit that frequency (through self-control or other methods listed below) will help keep your battery running for longer. 6. Your phone doesn’t have to be smart all the time Turn off smart features like air gestures, smart scrolling and the like, especially if you have a Samsung. Unless you really use these features every day, they’re just using battery power for a feature you don’t use. 7. Turn off vibrate and haptic feedback to save battery Switch off vibrate. Unless you really need that added awareness, turn off vibration alerts for incoming calls. It actually takes more power to vibrate your phone than it does to ring it. Turn off haptic feedback too (that buzz you get from typing on the keyboard). Sure it feels cool, but it doesn’t really add anything to your experience, and it’s another battery draine 8. Use lock screen notifications Lock screen notifications can also help save you battery life, especially if your phone has an AMOLED screen. This is because you can see your notifications at a glance without having to turn your whole screen on. This is especially useful if you get lots of notifications that aren’t worth following up on immediately. Lock screen notifications come standard on Android Lollipop. If you’re using Android KitKat, try using lock screen widgets or notifications if your ROM supports them, or install an app that does it for you like Dynamic Notifications. You’ll be able to get basically all your content without having to unlock your phone fully and navigating around. You’ll still need to light your whole screen up, but you’ll have it on for much less time than normal. 9. Only use original batteries Only use original batteries or respected third party manufacturer batteries. Saving a few bucks on a battery that might damage your beloved smartphone is a poor choice indeed, and may also deliver sub-standard battery performance. 10. Set your ”Do Not Disturb” or ”sleep” schedule Set ”sleep times” or ”blocking mode” to switch off Wi-Fi and mobile data when you don’t need them. If your phone is basically off limits at work, set your device to not ring, vibrate or connect to the internet while you’re at work. Many phones have a ”Do Not Disturb” setting for just this purpose. Likewise, you can set your phone to airplane mode when you’re asleep or use sleep or blocking modes to set up limits for what your phone does during certain times of the day, whether that’s while you’re asleep, at work or in a meeting. Cool apps like IFTTT let you create rules that can help you save battery life too. Get to know the specific settings your ROM offers. Not only will you have to fiddle with your phone less throughout the day (or night), but you’ll be saving on battery life too. You can also use an app like Greenify to force certain battery-hogging apps to hibernate when you’re not using them. 11. You don’t need to be connected 24/7 Turn off GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi and mobile data whenever you don’t need them. Turning off location data, or changing your Location settings to use Wi-Fi or 3G data rather than GPS works perfectly well. Only turn on Bluetooth and NFC as long as you need them (even though these consume very little power), and there’s no need to have both Wi-Fi and mobile data turned on at all times, especially if you know exactly when you’ll need one or the other. If you use Wi-Fi a lot though, say at home and at work, then it makes sense to keep set your Wi-Fi to ”Always on during sleep” as this uses less power than to have your Wi-Fi reconnecting every time you wake your phone. 12. Don’t get bogged down by widgets Ditch widgets you don’t really need, especially those that are connected to the internet like weather widgets. If you have multiple widgets across several home screens that are constantly syncing and updating, like Twitter, reddit, weather, Gmail and more, you’re not doing your battery any favors. Just hit the apps when you need them. 13. Don’t let your apps fall behind the times Keep your apps updated. There’s a reason developers constantly update apps, and many of these reasons are memory and battery optimizations. Keeping your apps updated also means you have the best optimizations available. Likewise, delete old apps you no longer use, as these may be running background processes that chew up RAM and battery life. 14. Explore the battery saving features on your phone All ROMs, whether it’s stock Android, OEM UI’s like TouchWiz or custom ROMs like CyanogenMod, have various settings in the menu to help conserve or optimize battery consumption here and there. HTC has Extreme Power Saving Mode, Samsung has Ultra Power Saving Mode, Sony has STAMINA mode and so on. Find these various options for your device and ROM and make them work for you. 15. Use your basic battery saving mode Even if your phone doesn’t have layers of battery saving features like some (or you simply don’t want disable so many features), at least make use of the basic battery saver mode. Even stock Android Lollipop has it by default and Android M has the great Doze feature for less battery consumption while your phone is asleep. 16. Don’t fall into the auto-sync trap Turn off auto-syncing for Google accounts. If you don’t need every single Google account updated every fifteen minutes, just go into your Settings and Google account and turn off auto-sync for those apps you don’t need constantly updated. Some apps – like email – let you manually refresh when you launch them, rather than multiple times throughout the day when you may not need them to. The same goes for Twitter, reddit and co. Unless you need constant updates or push notifications (like for Facebook or your calendar) just sync when you actually use the app. 17. Manually update apps when it’s convenient for you If you’re concerned about conserving battery life, the last thing you want to see is a whole slew of apps automatically updating. Just take a look at the screenshot below: if this happened when you were running low on juice you’d be int rouble. You’d also have no data left. You can manage your app auto-updates in the Play Store settings or individually for each app. 18. Turn off Google hotwords Stop your phone from always listening. Google’s “Ok Google” voice searching is a fantastic and often very functional feature. The problem is that it can play havoc with your battery. Especially if you don’t actually use it or only use it occasionally. Go into “Google settings” from your app drawer and tap the “voice” heading. On the next page, select ‘”Ok Google’ detection”. In this menu, the best option for battery life would be to untick all those that are boxed, but if you are a fan of “Ok Google”, tick only the “From the Google app” box to ensure your device is only listening when you’re in the Google app. 19. Don’t be so mobile obsessed This may sound weird, but because the screen is the biggest battery sucker on any Android, not turning your phone on as much is the best thing for your battery. I’m not saying to never check your phone, but do you really need to check it every ten minutes? Probably not. Try to exercise a little restraint throughout the day and watch your battery life grow. Did i miss anything? What are your best battery saving tips? https://techmzy./2016/01/20/how-to-prevent-and-save-your-battery-life-from-draining-fast-on-android-marshmallow-lollipop/

Nigeria’s telecommunications operators reported an 11.9 percent rise in the year to September 2015 in their subscriber figures, according to statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This is according to a report by telecompaper. The report revealed that GSM operators MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat led the growth, as the total telecom subscriber base grew from 134.5 million to 150.7 million. According to the NCC, the CDMA and fixed wired/wireless segments did not contribute anything to the growth, as these two segments continue to lose subscriptions. The report further revealed that MTN was the largest operator with 62.5 million lines, down 0.5 percent compared to the end of June. Airtel showed the strongest growth in Q3, of 5.3 percent to 31.1 million. Glo was still slightly larger, at 31.3 million customers in September. Etisalat was in fourth place with 23.5 million customers. Also, the figures show that the deactivation of unregistered mobile lines, as instructed by NCC, led to a loss of 357,997 active lines in September. From 151.02 million active phone lines in August, the number of lines declined to 150.66 million in September. Teledensity fell from 107.87 percent in August to 107.61 percent in September. The current era of the smartphone really began in 2007, when Apple introduced the first iPhone to the world. This was a device that changed conventions and proved exactly what a small handheld device could be capable of. Phones stopped being about features, and started being more about what you could do with them. Late 2008 saw Google enter the smartphone game with Android, and the use of smartphones has only grown since then. Today, it’s possible to get a decent smartphone for about #15,000 naira and above. Unfortunately, smartphones have also brought about their fair share of problems. While smartphones are objectively better than the “dumb” phones of the past, there are some good reasons to stick with the old standards even today. If you’re sometimes feeling overwhelmed by your smartphone, then you might agree with these reasons to downgrade to a dumbphone. Advantage #1: Size The biggest advantage that dumbphones have over smartphones is size. The whole premise of the smartphone almost entirely depends on large touchscreens, which is why it’s no longer possible to have a truly compact smartphone that’s worth its weight. The dumbphone lets you go back to small phones that fit in your pocket comfortably. Advantage #2: Durability Smartphones have this notorious habit of often shattering and becoming non-functional after being dropped from six inches off the ground. Dumbphones may also stop functioning when dropped from heights and treated poorly, but the likelihood of this happening is much lower. Thanks to the lack of expensive and fragile components, dumbphones are built to take much more physical punishment. And even in the unlikely event of your dumbphone dying on you, its low cost will ensure that you don’t really feel the pinch. Advantage #3: Price Smartphone prices are gradually increasing to the point where you can expect to have to shell out more than a hundred thousand naira plus for a top-spec flagship smartphone. You can get a smartphone for a lot less, but you really should not. Dumbphones, on the other hand, are unlikely to set you back more than a couple of thousand naira. You still have the ability to call and text people, plus your little dumbphone will likely have a few basic but useful functions such as a flashlight, calculator, world clock, currency converter, calendar, and radio. And if you break it or lose it, it doesn’t break your heart and hurt your wallet so much. Advantage #4: Battery life If you’re lucky, your smartphone’s battery will last a day, and charging overnight has become a fact of life. If you forget to plug in, you’ll find yourself walking around with a paperweight. These days, you’re often charging your phone twice daily. Dumbphones on the other hand, can go for days without charging, because of the lack of power-draining hardware inside. Everything from the screen to the low-powered processor is basic, and designed to give you hours, if not days, of standby and talk time. You can turn your daily recharge cycle into a weekly affair. Advantage #5: Design Do you remember when phones looked good? We had some iconic designs in the dumbphone age, including the rather stunning Motorola Razr V3, the legendary Nokia 3310 and the incredulous Nokia N-Gage. Smartphones today do innovate on design, but there isn’t much you can do when you have to have a large touchscreen that occupies 70 percent of the front of the device. And there’s no denying that using a flip phone makes you a little bit cooler than you already are. Advantage #6: Security The disadvantage of being continuously connected is that your phone often has a lot of personal information about you, as well as details about your finances, credit and debit cards, and pictures of you and your loved ones. These details can be hacked or collected by malware, and it is common knowledge that various websites and services track you and collect your information without your explicit knowledge, but with your unknowing permission. Many dumbphones lack connectivity or apps, making them the perfect way to be completely hidden and away from security threats. Furthermore, if your dumbphone is misplaced or stolen, there’s a lot less to worry about, and thieves are more likely to target people with more expensive smartphones rather than risk getting caught stealing a phone that isn’t worth much anyway. Advantage #7: Off the grid One of the biggest problems with smartphones is the fact that they have a knack for distracting you. People today are constant texting or accessing social media using their phones, apart from taking pictures or playing games. The constant access to the Internet also means that people always have something to do on their smartphones. Dumbphones, with their lack of connectivity and basic functionality, make it so much easier for you to concentrate on real life. What more, people actually have to call you if they want to get in touch, making conversations more intimate and meaningful. Considering we have computers and tablets that keep us permanently connected, perhaps replacing your smartphone with a dumb one will be a lot easier than you think. You can have your online identity intact when you’re at home or at work, and be a lot more social when you aren’t. What are your thoughts on this? Please Let us know. https://techmzy./2016/01/16/the-dumb-phone-isnt-dead-yet-why-you-still-need-them/

Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been available for a while now, but typically the majority of Android devices haven’t even seen a whiff of the new software yet. Marshmallow’s back-to-basics OS promises to be faster and more solid than ever. Android 6.0 should be rolling out soon, which begs the question: when is your phone likely to get it? Here’s what we know so far. 1.Nexus phones Android 6.0 debuted with Google’s latest smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, the first in line for an upgrade will be their immediate predecessors. Google has already started the Android 6.0 over-the-air rolllout for Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 handsets, so you should start seeing prompts to update soon. If you haven’t seen them already. Of course, the Nexus range is about more than just those two phones. It’ll also be rolling out to the Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9 tablets soon. 2. HTC Good old HTC. As much as it’s struggling (and boy is it struggling), it always provides quick and clear information on its Android update plans. Sure enough, the company swiftly HTC One M9 and HTC One M8 are listed as receiving their updates “beginning end of 2015,” so presumably they’ll be up first. Then you have the HTC One M9+, HTC One E9+, HTC One E9, HTC One ME, HTC One E8, HTC One M8 Eye, and a trio of Desires to follow. If you want an HTC toting Marshmallow right away, the brand has the A9 – which is basically an iPhone 6S clone running Android 6.0. 3. Samsung Samsung’s Android updates tend to be drawn-out affairs, as the company has to work to tweak its own custom TouchWiz UI on top of new Google software. It’s not alone on that front, of course. However, last year’s Android 5.0 update came relatively swiftly, just a month after it was released by Google. Of course, it didn’t roll out to the entire Samsung range. Thanks to a recent leak, we now have what looks like a complete timetable of when Sammy’s phones should get the Marshmallow update. Things kick-off with the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ in December 2015, with the S6 and S6 Edge following on in January next year. Both the Note 4 and Note Edge should get it in February, while the S5 and Galaxy Alpha are still ‘waiting for approval’. 4. LG In 2015, the South Korean manufacturer was one of the quickest off the mark, providing the LG G3 (or at least those in Poland) with the update on November 10 – around a week after Google officially rolled it out. And it looks like it will be speedy again getting Marshmallow out. Users (in Poland, you lucky people) should see the update soon, making it one of the first non-Nexus device to recieve it. LG says it’ll roll-out to users across other regions shortly after. LG has also started rolling out Marshmallow to users in South Korea, so it’s getting closer to a wider release. 5. Motorola Motorola is another company that’s quick off the mark with its Android updates, partly because it used to be part of the Google family, but mainly because it makes minimal alterations to stock Android. The company has already announced that the following phones will get Marshmallow: Moto X Pure/Style, Moto X Play, Moto G (Gen 2 and 3), Moto X (2014), Moto Turbo, Moto Maxx, Droid Turbo and Droid Maxx. When will they get the update? We’ll have to wait and see. 6. Sony After promising a fairly swift update, it took the company months to get around to updating all of its customers to Lollipop. Having said that, it’s worth mentioning that Android 5.0 didn’t launch in a particularly solid state, whereas we’re hopeful that Android 6.0 will be much less buggy. Sony has announced that the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4 will all get the Marshmallow update, but we’re not sure when. 7. Huawei Now that Huawei has joined the Nexus family, taking on design duties for the Nexus 6P, we’d expect it to have a jump start on the rest (along with LG) on the Android 6.0 upgrade front. Or at least, we would if it had better form with this sort of thing. Some Huawei customers are still waiting for Android 5.0 on their phones. The Chinese manufacturer has said that the Huawei P8 will be the first of its phones to receive Marshmallow, but it hasn’t offered any indication as to when. Huawei’s latest device, the Mate 8, is the brand’s first phone to coming Android Marshmallow out of the box. https://techmzy./2016/01/14/android-6-0-marshmallow-update-when-will-my-phone-get-it/

On the eve of its 15th birthday, Wikipedia has published a list of the most-edited pages within its vast repository of knowledge. Topping the list, somewhat unsurprisingly, is former US president George W. Bush, whose page has been edited an astonishing 45,862 times. A polarising figure during the site’s early days, Bush has probably fallen victim to the familiar pastime of Wiki vandalism as much as anyone. Many of the changes took place between 2004/5 during the ongoing Iraq war, as you can see from the arguments in the edit history. The next entry in line is the ‘List of WWE personnel’ page (42,863 edits), which reflects the fast-changing world of professional wrestling where folks are hired and fired on a day-to-day basis. Rounding out the top six are the United States (35,742), Wikipedia itself (33,958) and Michael Jackson (28,152), with the King of Pop racking up more edits than some bloke called Jesus (28,084). To give an indication of Wikiedpia’s growth over the last decade and a half, in 2001 an article on Creationism received the most edits with just 179. In 2015, the most edited article as ‘Deaths in 2015’ which was altered 18,271 times. In total the site’s 5,053,647 articles have been revised 808,187,367 times. “Parsing those edits by year brings into focus a fascinating evolution of the current millennia online, revealing not just what people clicked on or read or even shared,” the non-profit organisation wrote on its official blog. “The most-edited articles show what Wikipedians created and shaped and gave to the world as this millennia began to unfold.” The full list is as follows: 1) George W. Bush (45,862) 2) List of WWE personnel (42,863) 3) United States (35,742) 4) Wikipedia (33,958) 5) Michael Jackson (28,152) 6) Jesus (28,084) 7) Catholic Church (26,421) List of programs broadcast by ABS-CBN (25,188)9) Barack Obama (24,708) 10) Adolf Hitler (24,612) 11) Britney Spears (23,802) 12) World War II (23,739) 13) Deaths in 2013 (22,529) 14) The Beatles (22,399) 15) India (22,271) https://techmzy./2016/01/14/george-w-bush-of-america-has-the-most-edited-page-on-wikipedia/

Some everyday objects are so efficient at what they do that it’d be pointless to tinker any further. Below are my list of products that are probably the best they’ll ever be. 1. Paperclip Three turns in a piece of wire is all you need to properly secure a stack of paper. 2. Swingline stapler A solid, weighty feel combined with a timeless look. It’s the Cadillac of staplers. 3. Bic ballpoint pen The product is cheap while still being durable and reliable 4. Soda can tab Cans with stay-tabs (tabs that stay attached) emerged in the mid-1980s to replace pull-away tabs, which are pulled off a can entirely. The new tab’s complex system of levers and fulcrum are widely considered a feat of design genius. 5. Spoon and fork Eating utensils have stayed mostly the same for thousands of years for one reason: they get the job done. 6. Colt M-1911 pistol Just about every modern hand gun was inspired by the Colt 1911, in both its functionality and aesthetic. It is the gold standard. 7. Razor Since the switch from straight razors, the way we shave hasn’t changed in decades. 8. Chucks Taylor All-Star At 98 years old, the sneaker recalls simpler times and offers universal appeal. It is a rare breed in fashion. https://techmzy./2016/01/10/everyday-objects-that-are-perfectly-designed-and-cant-be-improved-any-further/ Cc:Lalasticlala ,seun

Alongside the huge success of Mi 5, Xiaomi has also announced the Redmi 3, an update to its most popular budget handset. Even though it costs just over $100 that’s around #20,000 in Nigeria naira, the Redmi 3 packs quite a few interesting features, starting with a new, gorgeous all-metal design featuring a plaid pattern on the back, which comes in silver, dark grey, or gold. Inside the Redmi 3, a 4,100mAh battery keeps the device running for more than two days. It is one of the biggest batteries we’ve seen in a smartphone, surpassing the Moto X Play, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, LG V10 and most MTK devices. Unlike the three phones mentioned, the 4,100mAh battery on the Redmi 3 only needs to power a 5-inch 720p HD display, which consumes a lot less power than the 1080p or 2K display found on many premium smartphones. That could push the Redmi 3 past two days of battery life, which would make it one of the best choices for customers who value battery life. We’ll have to wait for a detailed rundown before we can safely say it is the best choice. Internally, the Redmi 3 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. While not beastly specs, they should be good enough for most customers, especially if you aren’t into mobile gaming. The Redmi 3 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with “ultra-fast autofocus” and a 5-megapixel front camera. It has dual-SIM support, but NFC, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi have not been mentioned in the announcement post. https://techmzy./2016/01/11/xiaomi-redmi-3-with-huge-battery-and-octa-core-processor-launched-specs/

BlackBerry CEO John Chen reassured BlackBerry 10 OS users in a blog post on Friday that their smartphone platform is ‘far from dead’. Chen had last month hinted that the company may launch another Android smartphone in 2016. Chen once again re-affirmed those plans. “At CES 2016, BlackBerry has been busy discussing self-driving cars, global carrier support for PRIV and consumer healthcare apps. But as we shift our energies toward all these exciting opportunities, does that mean the BlackBerry 10 operating system is dead? Far from it,” the blog post said. For BlackBerry 10 customers, the company will release security and privacy enhancements in 2016. The Canadian company said that Passport, Classic, and other BB10 device owners can expect to receive version 10.3.3 which will is said to be certified for NIAP (national information assurance partnership) compliance. BlackBerry says that the NIAP compliance will mean it passed “strictest” government-grade security tests. Chen also confirmed plans for a version 10.3.4 release for later in the year with “even more security improvements”. Chen in Friday’s blog post did not add many more details, but said, “While we continue to invest in BlackBerry 10 in 2016, we will also develop another Android-based phone. We’ll share more details about our roadmap when we’re ready.” A recent report had suggested that BlackBerry may release not one but two phones – both running Google’s Android OS in 2016. Last month, Chen for the first time revealed the company’s second Android phone plan after Priv Android slider smartphone launch. Chen had even suggested that the next Android smartphone will be targeted at the mid-range segment. He had however stressed that the company’s focus would be “more towards” the high-end. The next five years will no doubt unleash products and services that we have yet to imagine. But as we progress, what will we leave behind? Here are a handful of things we use today that likely will either be gone completely or on their last breath, disrupted by new innovations, technology and methods. 1. Cash, checkbooks, and ATMs Today, most business transactions accept debit or credit cards, and are done online though electronic payments. Soon, you will have all your banking done through any mobile device. In the more distant future, there will be no cash. No cash means no cash machines — bye, bye ATMs. 2. USB sticks and flash drives. By 2020, 70 percent of the world will be using a smartphone, according to Ericsson’s mobility report. Mobile data networks will cover 90 percent of the population. With cloud services like Apple, Box, Dropbox, Google and Microsoft offering near-unlimited storage at near-free prices, there’ll be little need for storage devices taking up room in your pocket. Not to mention the increase in standard storage for mobile devices in the next five years. Event organizers around the world will need to come up with new swag to reward attendees at their conferences as USBs will be a token of the analog past. 3. Security: Easier, more secure access. No more Passwords and keys. This is a hard one because passwords are used so broadly today. The average person is said to have 19 passwords and nearly half admit to using unsafe, weak passwords. But even if you’re adamant about using only strong passwords guess what hose can be cracked too. Biometrics are already becoming mainstream, especially on mobile devices, which are now the main access point for many of our online activities. Fingerprints, voice and facial recognition will replace your first dog’s name and your wedding anniversary as the way you access your secure accounts. These will have their own security risks, but the character password will be no more. Similarly, soon you will not have physical keys to lose. Your key will be any of the smart devices you carry, which will be linked to you biometrically so that only you can operate them. 4. No one will miss this: The remote control No more scrambling around your house tossing the cushions of your couch in the air looking for the elusive remote control (or 10 of them, depending on the complexity of your in-home audio and video setup). The research firm Strategy Analytics forecasts that emerging categories in the Internet of Things (IoT), smart home and wearables will connect an additional 17.6 billion devices by 2020. Even today, devices such as the Amazon Echo are taking voice search and commands to a new level. With so many new devices connected to the Internet by 2020, building separate hardware for a remote control will just no longer make any sense. 5. Static documents and paper agreements Paper-based signatures and paper-based processing physically needing to print, fax, scan or overnight documents for reviews, approvals, decisions and/or signatures to complete a transaction are fast-becoming archaic in today’s digital world. In the future, we will rely on “cloud agreements” to actively manage any transaction. Cloud agreements will be: actively connected to the identities of the involved parties (forever), able to mete out payments as contract objectives are met and actively contact actors in the transaction when the time is right. So you should consider getting a head start on cleaning out the old-tech clutter you have in your life to make way for a digital New Year. Sure, you have some time. But with all of the exciting technology disruptions taking place right now, why wait? Visit for more. https://techmzy./2016/01/10/5-things-that-will-disappear-in-the-next-5-years/

Can you spot the cat?? ![]() |
Whether it’s math questions or mind-bending optical illusions, the internet loves to get stumped. Inspired by the popular puzzle of the panda hiding amongst a sea of snowmen, Hungarian artist Gergely Dudás has another illustration that he posted on Twitter that has people searching for a cat amongst a bunch of owls. https://techmzy./2016/01/09/puzzle-can-anyone-find-the-cat-in-this-field-of-owls/ Here’s the puzzle:
