Just got an update on Alexis Sanchez and why this deal might be taking a little longer than expected... Sanchez arrived to work in the UK in 2014 so must apply for an extension to his existing work permit. He will have to apply for an extension in person. An application requires a valid certificate of sponsorship from his new club and requires the endorsement of the governing body. The Home Office does not comment on individual cases but we understand Sanchez will not have to leave the UK in order to meet any extension requirements. So if you're getting a work permit yourself today, maybe keep an eye out for a guy in a Manchester United tracksuit... - Sky Sports |
“Everyone is raving about City, but when it comes to the two clubs, Man United are miles bigger. “Players would still prefer to go to them over Pep’s side – that’s a fact. Players won’t go to City because they think they’re a bigger, more historic club than United. Because they’re simply not. “Some might get the quick satisfaction of winning the league this year, but those years of history, and the side that Mourinho is building – players want to be a part of that. “This signing only confirms that. Sanchez had the opportunity to go into a team where he could have won a trophy. But he didn’t, he chose to go to United because of everything they stand for and that says a lot about the size of the club. “City have some unbelievable players, but winning the league this year doesn’t mean anything. They need to do that year upon year and collect trophies to compete with United. That’s the true test. They’re not serial winners. United are and that’s why players want to be there. “We all presumed Sanchez would join Man City. There was all this talk about how desperate he was to be reunited with Pep Guardiola from their Barcelona days. “Suddenly, Man United is the destination for him, and that is a massive statement from the club. He’s one of the best players in the Premier League, and they’ve had a lot of competition to sign him. “This is their way of saying: ‘Don’t belittle us. We’re still the biggest club in the league and we can get who we want.’ “It seems United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea were all after him. Sanchez choosing United sends a big message to those clubs, especially Man City.” - PAUL INCE |

Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has agreed to join Arsenal, with Alexis Sanchez set to move in the opposite direction in a straight swap. Armenia international Mkhitaryan, 28, will have a medical on Sunday and Monday after the paperwork for his transfer was completed on Saturday. The length of his contract at Arsenal, and his salary, is undisclosed. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42762918 |
Interviewer: Were you tempted to use Alexis Sanchez today? Winger: Yes, Interviewer: You didn't select him because? Wenger: I didn't take him there is a question of him moving to Manchester United and you can't drive up north and as well play football that's difficult so that's why I decided to leave him out. Interviewer: So is he going up north? Wenger: Let me think, yes. Interviewer: When do you expect it to happen today, tomorrow? Wenger: I expect it to happen maybe but I cannot announce it because in the next 48 hours it will be decided one way or the other and in these kind of things. As long as it is not over the line you cannot say it will happen because when negotiations become more and more longer and edgy as well because every detail becomes important nowadays so you cannot say it will happen or not happen. If you want to have a bet, it could happen. |
Man Utd playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is to undergo an Arsenal medical in the next 48 hours, Sky Sports News understands. However, as of this evening, the paperwork on every aspect of the deal has yet to be signed off. If the transfer happens, it will be a straight swap deal with Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez. |
