They ain't tribal yet they would rather prefer a failure to an achiever. Kwankwaso is far better than PO, this is a fact that's not debatable, but cos he's a Northerner, a Muslim, he shouldn't be considered...... Oops! It's our turn in southern Nigeria.
Some of you are exposing your hypocrisy gradually. You do not want BAT because he's a Muslim not because he's a Yoruba Man. You do not want to be ruled by another Muslim. Oops.... only Amoto94 is a Religion Extremist on this Board.
Tinubu didn't build Lagos, but he designed the Masterplan for Lagos of Today. This is not debatable, this is fact!!!
Show me a Thread on NL specifically created to comdemn BAT during his tenure and I'll quit supporting him.
Donjazet2: I'm going to reply this post paragraph by paragraph because it has substance but also laced with falsehood and disingenity.
This is your first lie, how would you ask me with a straight face, " what is my business with this administration" when you basically come here every single damn day to regurgitate the governments propaganda and copy and paste it's talking point. From audio victories against terrorists, to audio contracts awarded and outright falsehoods, you are literally a government spokesperson on this thread.
You've always tried to paint the government here well while never posting the negative developments Nigerians are encountering daily.
Choosing a candidate to support to lead you should not be based on just one factor. There are different metrics, indices and factors a candidate should meet up to before being viable for office. Competence (ability to lead), character (relative personal moral standing and behaviour), Physical and health status, impact (legacy, effect and symbolism of candidate's victory).
I will try to very briefly explain those points and in relation to both candidates.
No 1, Impact, what is the legacy, the effect and the symbolism of Obi's candidacy? Let me start with an example, Obama winning in 2008 broke so many racial barriers in American democracy. His candidacy and presidency was highly symbolic in the sense that it healed the scars of America's dark racial past and opened doors that were previously shut to black people in America. How does this relate to Obi. As I've said severally before, an Obi win will be Earth shattering, the effects and implications of Obi winning the presidency next year would send waves across the country and continent. A whole lot of Nigerias will then understand the power they have when they unite against bad leadership and representation. Nigerians just picking a tiny party and making it the ruling party. Politicians become accountable as a result of this. Our democracy and governance improves instantly. It's impact is felt instantly. As for the symbolism and legacy of Obi's supposed win, just like Obama, Obi winning next year's election shows that the nation has healed from the tribal divisions and deep animosity from the past. An Obi presidency symbolises that igbos are no longer looked at suspiciously or marginalized but are embraced as brother's of the nation too.
Now for Tinubu, voting Tinubu simply signals business as usual. A kakistocracy and a plutocracy. It signals a continuation of the present ruling class, this government and its components which will inevitably lead to the same results. Tinubu's candidacy doesn't bear the same symbolism which an Obi candidacy does.
Now number 2. Physical and health status: I don't need to talk too much here. You already know which candidate is younger, healthier, more energetic and capable of bearing the huge physical responsibilities of leading 200 million people. A presidents job entails Constantly travelling, Constantly attending meetings, Inspecting projects and developments across the entire country. Attending emergencies. Alacrity and sharp mental acuity. Need I go on? Between both candidates, who will handle this best? Tell yourself the truth. An 86 year old or a 61 year old.
Number 3, character. I'm sure I also don't need to talk much here. Even you cannot say Tinubu has a better moral standing and better character than Obi. One has never been a defendant in court. That is, he's never had to defend himself for any negative case whatsoever in any court while the other is an international criminal with criminal cases and indictments both home and abroad. Don't forget that Tinubu has faced corruption and embezzlement charges in Nigeria to add to his drug related and money laundering cases abroad. Small detail to note, Tinubu's physical appearance indicates a person who was or is a habitual user of drugs to which his current ailment is also an indicator to.
Competence; this is where I score both fair. This is Tinubu's only selling point. Honestly I do not know much about Tinubus governance seeing as many of us were too young when he was governor and have to rely on his owned media channels to toot his own horns. But what I don't think anyone would say is that he was a failure. But this is exactly the same with Obi. Aside politics, no one would say he was a failure. So it's very fair to say both have competence based on pedigree.
Soo now, I revert back to an earlier statement, you cannot use only one metric to support a candidate. Yes, Tinubu is competent but is he healthy enough, Is he in the right party, surrounded by the right people? What are the effects of a Tinubu presidency. He has failed the character test. He came out to tell us his entitlement to the office. He believes its his right and that is a failure of character and dignity.
As I've stated above with all my reasons Obi side by side with Tinubu is just non debatable. Why?? Go up and read my points again. When you've done that, there's no doubt left that your purpose for strongly advocating for your candidate is based on primordial sentiment which is tribalism.
Donjazet2: By "sensible discourse", you mean gaslighting people into believing that this administration has tried and done very well and deserves to continue for 8 more years, right??
Your idea of "sensible discourse" is to deny that the candidate you support isn't a frail sick man that cannot in any rational way bear the burden and responsibility of 200 million people.
"Sensible discourse" when you cannot even answer me as to the basic information of the candidate you support.
Where can the sensible discourse start from if you yourself are denying our own reality ?
What's my business with this Administration again? Didn't you share screenshot of my post made 5years ago against PMB?
I am supporting BAT purely based on his track records as Governor of Lagos State. You're supporting Peter Obi cos you believe he's the right man to get it right.
I never call you a Tribalist for your choice, but you won't reciprocate. What happens to fair and objective critiquing of Candidates?
Must we go low every time simply to pass message? I can't force anyone here to vote for BAT. I believe we ain't Kids here, what happens to respect and freedom of choice?
You don't wanna debate the Candidacy, larride has made himself available more than once but none of you takes up the challenge.
All you guys care about is coercing people to support your Candidate. Is that how democracy work?!
Donjazet2: Yes of course, you continue to prove to us that we Nigerians in the country are just seen as pawns to you. You think our lives are a joke, that's why serious political issues being discussed are seen as "cruise". Carry on baba!!
Until you hear that herdsmen have overrun your village or foreign countries block Nigerians from going there. Shebi Port Harcourt to Lagos is now 130k.
Don't worry. Continue catching your cruise while our pocket burns.
.... cos that's what the Thread has become - Cruise Lounge. We've thrown away sensible Discourse for hypocrisy.
Ellexy: I have many issues with this statement but let me ask this one first...
Oasis.X to whom the question is directed to was clearly making a claim that Peter and PDP are one and the same even though he's no longer a member of the party because he was once part of the Economic Council team under Jonathan. How am I suppose to believe now that Tinubu who's APC's flag bearer[same party with Buhari], who promised to continue in the footsteps and legacies of Buhari, who have all Buhari stooges singing his praise now different from Buhari?
What's difference between PDP and PDP Lite (LP)? So once you change a Party, you're no longer same person?
Perhaps we should have voted Atiku when he was AC Presidential Candidate. Drop Receipts of where I praised the Administration of PMB as a complete Success.
Your Brothers hired Excavators, dug my past posts, hoping to discover gems to no avail. I ain't a blind follower or believer in a Person, if you fail, I will call you out.
Donjazet2: No no, I'm just curious as to what will make the person who made this post 5 years ago now be the strongest advocate of that same person.
What changed?? Oh I know, I know, "our son" is on the ballot and we cannot be Omo ale, right??
Advocate? How? LOL. Are we here only for cruise or hitting Bull's eyes once in a while as well?
We should forget where the problems come from ba?
Yeah.... Tinubu lo kan, and he has my support 100%. Guess you ain't aware Kwankwaso is contesting that's while your tribe-man is your preferred candidate too?!
You supported PMB in 2015 as many of us. You are calling him out now, something I've done 5yrs ago?
That should tell you how empty, shallow minded some of you Obidense are.
If oil prices remain between 40- 60 dollars over the next two years, the current policy regime guarantees that foreign reserves will continue the precipitous depletion with the attendant exchange rate depreciation, as well as a probable unsustainable escalation in debt accumulation, fiscal retrenchment or taxing the private sector with vengeance. The scenario does not look pretty.
The poor choices made by the current (GEJ) government have mortgaged the future, and the next government would have little room to manoeuvre and would inevitably undertake drastic but painful structural adjustments. Nigerians loathe the term ‘structural adjustment’. With falling real wages and depreciating currency, I can see any belated attempt by the government to deal with the bloated public sector pitching it against a feisty labour. I worry about regime stability in the coming months, and I do not envy the next team.
The seeming crisis is not destiny; it is self-imposed. However, we must see it as an opportunity to be seized to fundamentally restructure Nigeria’s political economy, including its fiscal federalism and mineral rights. The current system guarantees cycles of consumption loop and I cannot see sustainable long term prosperity without major systemic overhaul. The proposals at the national conference merely tinker at the margins.
Sadly the government’s economic team is very weak, dominated by self-interested and self-conflicted group of traders and businessmen, and so-called economic team meetings have been nothing but showbiz time. The very people government exists to regulate have seized the levers of government as policymakers and most government institutions have largely been “privatized” to them.
Mention any major government department or agency and someone will tell you whom it has been ‘allocated’ to, and the person subsequently nominates his minion to occupy the seat. What do you then expect? The economy seems to be on auto pilot, with confusion as to who is in charge, and government largely as a constraint. There are no big ideas, and it is difficult to see where economic policy is headed to.
We all know how it's started, but we'll rather ignore and bash present Administration like they are the cause of it.
Peter Obi has just a responsibility, help GEJ to build our Economy, yet he failed woefully. Same man keeps importing from Abroad but miraculously expecting our economy to grow?
In sum, the mismanagement of our economy has brought us once more to the brink. Government officials rely on the artificial construct of debt to GDP ratio to tell us we can borrow as much as we want. That is nonsense, especially for an economy with a mono but highly volatile source of revenue and forex earnings. The chicken will soon come home to roost.
Today, the combined domestic and external debt of the Federal Government is in excess of $40 billion. Add to this the fact that abandoned capital projects littered all over the country amount to over $50 billion. No word yet on other huge contingent liabilities. If oil prices continue to fall, I bet that Nigeria will soon have a heavy debt burden even with low debt to GDP ratio.
Furthermore, given the current and capital account regime, it is evident that Nigeria does not have enough foreign reserves to adequately cover for imports plus short term liabilities. In essence, we are approaching the classic of what the Shagari government faced, and no wonder the hasty introduction of ‘austerity measures’ again.
Fourth, poverty incidence and unemployment are also simultaneously at all-time high levels. According to the NBS, poverty incidence grew to 69% in 2010 and projected to be 71% in 2011, with unemployment at 24%. This is the worst record in Nigeria’s history, and the paradox is that this happened during the unprecedented oil boom.
I note that when I assumed office as Governor of CBN, the stock of foreign reserves was $10 billion. The average monthly oil price during my 60 months in office was $59, but foreign reserve reached the all-time peak of $62 billion (and despite paying $12 billion for external debt, and losing over $15 billion during the unprecedented global financial and economic crisis) I left behind $45 billion.
Recall also that our exchange rate continuously appreciated during this period and was at N117 to the dollar before the global crisis and we deliberately allowed it to depreciate in order to preserve our reserves. My calculation is that if the economy was better managed, our foreign reserves should have been between $102 –$118 billion and exchange rate around N112 before the fall in oil prices. As of now, the reserves should be around $90 billion and exchange rate no higher than N125 per dollar.
Third, the rate of public debt accumulation at a time of unprecedented boom had no parallel in the world. While the Obasanjo administration bought and enlarged the policy space for Nigeria, the current government has sold and constricted it. What debt relief did for Nigeria was to liberate Nigerian policymakers from the intrusive conditionalities of the creditors and thereby truly allowing Nigeria independence in its public policy.
President Obasanjo met about $5 billion in foreign reserves, and the average monthly oil price for the 72 months he was in office was $38, and yet he left $43 billion in foreign reserves after paying $12 billion to write-off Nigeria’s external debt.
In the last five years, the average monthly oil price has been over $100, and the quantity also higher but our foreign reserves have been declining and exchange rate depreciating.
- Charles Soludo
GEJ preferred listening to somebody that does take advice from madmen as Economic Adviser... SMH!
Genesis of our Problem today in Nigeria should be credited to Peter Obi definitely.
raumdeuter: We saw Soludo and his impact as CBN governor. We are still waiting for the impact of Obi as Anambra governor
He noted that while Obi gloated about ‘savings’, there is no signature project to remember his regime except that his regime took the first position among all states in Nigeria in the democratization of poverty—- mass impoverishment of the people of Anambra. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, poverty rose under his watch in Anambra from 20% in 2004 (lowest in Nigeria then) to 68% in 2010 (a 238% deterioration!).
Our friend likened it to a father who had no idea of what to do with his resources and was celebrating his fat bank account while his children were dying of kwashiorkor. He pointed out that since it is the likes of Peter Obi who are the advisers to Jonathan on how to manage the economy (thereby confusing micromanagement which you do as a trader with macro governance) it is little wonder that poverty is fast becoming another name for Nigeria. It was a very hilarious evening..
Dem dey repackage hero beer in Heineken Bottle...... LMFAO
.....One of those present took the satire to some level by comparing Jonathan to the ‘performance’ of the former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi. raumdeuter: You think he's new? Just a new moniker but the same guy that has been posting for like 2months now
You will notice the other moniker probably got banned and he signed up with this specifically for this thread
LOL..... that Dunce mentioned me why Lagos didn't allow Obi held Rally at Lekki Tollgate, I asked for Proof, Mumu is still digging.
I also asked the Twèrp if it's cool for BATists to hold "standstill" Rally on River Niger Bridge.... Ooin! He's no longer mentioning me recklessly again.
