Professional racer and stunt driver Jess Hawkins has driven Honda's bike-engined Mean Mower into the Guinness World Records book for "Fastest Acceleration 0-100 mph for a Lawnmower." 

To qualify for the official record, Guinness said the superfast machine, which managed the feat in a blistering 6.29 seconds, must still be able to cut grass.

The original Mean Mower became the world's fastest in March 2014, setting a record 116.87mph top speed .The record was broken in late 2015 by the Norwegian Speed Factory team on a modified Viking T6 lawnmower which topped out at 133mph.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had requested the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, to retrieve the official vehicle identification plates from about 69 senators and 151 members of the House of Representatives who failed to return to the 9th National Assembly.

The FRSC Public Education Officer, Corps Commander, Bisi Kareem,said in a statement that :
“We have written to the clerk of the National Assembly to direct former lawmakers to return official number plates issued to them. We expect the clerk to reach out to them; we cannot get across to them ourselves, that was why we wrote to the National Assembly about it.”

Forty-two of the senators lost out in October last year at their parties’ primaries while twenty-seven others were defeated at the National Assembly elections.

Apart from former Senate President Bukola Saraki of PDP, Kwara Central, others expected to return their official vehicle number plates are Godswill Akpabio of APC , Akwa Ibom West; Nazif Gamawa of PDP, Bauchi; Rafiu Ibrahim of PDP, Kwara South; Tayo Alasoadura of APC, Ondo Central and Yele Omogunwa of PDP, Ondo South, among others.

When asked about the deadline for the return of the plates and sanctions for failure, Kazeem said he would not speak on that.

Findings have, however, showns that many former lawmakers and ex-officials were still using the official number plates.

The immediate past senator who represented Oyo South Senatorial District in the Eight Senate, Adesoji Akanbi, said the senators who were not returning to the National Assembly, were expected to return the number plates.

He said:
“The number plates have an expiry date, hence there is no basis for holding on to it after June 2019 because those who issued it said it’s between 2015 and 2019.

“Although some may just remove it and throw it away for record purposes, it is better to return it to the National Assembly management which distributed them to us."

Caught On CCTV...
Just when you think you have seen it all , a lady (and her friend) drove a petrol powered Volkswagen car into an electric car charging station (which was a bad idea to start with) and attempted to inflate the front tyres with a fast DC Charger.

After several attempts in trying to figure how to inflate the tyre with a CCS Combo 2 plug,she tried with the standard CHAdeMO plug and that didn't help either.

Their actions is hilarious but sad at the same time. Since going EV, one will assumed most Europeans and Americans knows what charging stations look like. I guess lots of work and education is needed here.

Last December, a lady also tried to stick a fuel pump nozzle into an all-electric Tesla Model S charge port .A good Samaritan later walked up to her and explained to the battery-powered car needs an electric charge from an EV charging station and not a petrol/diesel .

Strong gusts of wind with heavy rain and egg-sized hailstones last week descended on Romanian cities of Baia Mare, Zalau, and Fagaras, damaging dozens of cars and several buildings in the process .

The Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos State chapter,in a statement on Sunday, berated Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State for purchasing a N187 million Armoured Range Rover Sentinel SUV as an official vehicle.

The party through the state’s Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, also berated the governor for not publicly declaring his assets.

According to the PDP, for the governor to have bought a N187 million official vehicle “is prodigal, insensitive and not humble beginning at all, especially at this period that the residents need the abandoned projects completed and the provision of improved welfare services”

PDP also added that :
“It is only when and if Mr. Sanwo-Olu manifests such selfless and austere gestures as a lifestyle that Lagosians can take him serious and sympathize with him as he claims to be losing weight, otherwise Mr. Sanwoolu is advised to as a matter of emergency consult his medical doctor to diagnose real reasons for him losing weight”

“If Mr. Sanwoolu does not on his own make public, information of his declared Assets for Lagosians to know and verify within Seven days, the party shall compel him to be morally responsive to Lagosians by adopting the Freedom of Information, FOI Act to get said information.”

In a swift reaction, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gboyega Akosile, denied the claim  and described PDP’s statement as people exhibiting signs of long term depression .

“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not buy a N187million SUV as his official vehicle. In fact, the Governor has not procured any vehicle for official use. The vehicle the Governor uses, if that’s what the PDP is referring to was purchased almost a year ago and it certainly is not at the cost of N187millon as alleged"

“The PDP needs to cross-check its fact very well before coming out with fallacious claims next time"

Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor also added:
“On the issue of assets declaration, this shows clearly that the party and its members are delusional. Although while it’s not legally mandatory for Governor Sanwo-Olu to make his Assets Declaration public, he is certainly not perturbed about the request. The PDP should know by now that it’s a choice"

“Therefore the PDP should keep its unsolicited advice and concentrate on putting its already collapsed house in order if it hopes to be relevant in the political firmament of Lagos State now or in the future.”

Auto parts supplier ZF last week gave a live demonstration of its prototype for the world’s first pre-crash occupant safety system with an external side airbag which aims to provide an extra safety net in the event of a side-impact crash.

According to ZF:

The system's sensors , which are mounted around the car ,works by inflating a large airbag that contains 280 to 400 liters of air (or five to eight times that of a standard steering wheel airbag) within 150 milliseconds from when it detects the collision - or about the time it takes you to blink your eyes.

The side airbags fills the area between the A- and C-pillars of the car and it reduces penetration of the intruding vehicle by 30 percent.

ZF didn't provide any details on when this system will enter production, but car safety remains a crucial pillar on modern day cars.

Michelin and General Motors have teamed up to develop a new generation of airless wheel technology ,dubbed the Michelin Uptis Prototype, that is designed to eliminate flats and blowouts.

The Uptis,which stands for Unique Puncture-proof Tire System, uses spokes made of composite rubber and resin-embedded fiberglass that sit between the outer edge of the tyre and central aluminum wheel, removing the need for air.

During the presentation at the Movin’On Summit for sustainable mobility, General Motors said:

“General Motors is excited about the possibilities that Uptis presents, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Michelin on this breakthrough technology”

“Uptis is an ideal fit for propelling the automotive industry into the future and a great example of how our customers benefit when we collaborate and innovate with our supplier partners”

Along with the obvious benefits of greatly reducing the chances of tyre blowouts and flats, Uptis require virtually no maintenance and would have a significantly longer lifespan than pressurized counterparts. 

They can also reduce the use of raw materials and emissions linked to the manufacture of spare and replacement tyres.

The Uptis is already being tested on the Chevrolet Bolt, and later this year, a fleet of the Electric Vehicles will spin the Uptis in real-world trials.
