30 year old South African DJ, Mandla Maseko, who was set to be the first black African to fly 103-kilometres (64 miles) into space, has died after being hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on Saturday.

Popularly known as Spaceboy and Afronaut, Maseko beat a million other entrants in 2013 to become one of 23 people who would travel on an hour-long sub-orbital trip on the Lynx Mark II spaceship.

In 2016, he was honored by the Gauteng Education Department and had the science building at the Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation named after him.

He had been originally scheduled to fly in 2015 but no firm plans for his trip had been made public at the time of his death.

Former Inter Milan, Man City and Liverpoolstar, Mario Balotelli, is reported to have paid a bar owner £1,800 (or about ₦811k) to drive his scooter into the sea.

The twenty-eight year footballer later shared the footage on his Instagram stories, showing the crowd that had gathered to watch the daring stunt.

According to Football Italia, the bar owner later joked to reporters:

“My moped was only worth £540 (₦243k) anyway."

When South African petrol attendant Nkosikho Mbele borrowed 21-year-old motorist, Monet Van Deventer, R100 (₦2,536) to fuel her car - after forgoting her bank card at home - he had no idea that his act of kindness would return tenfold as a half a million rand.

Days after Nkosikho Mbele's good gesture, Monet van Deventer started a crowdfunding campaign with the aim of raising R100,000 for his 28-year-old helper.

Within three days, it had raised R490,000 (or ₦12.4 million). In addition to the almost half a million rand he received from his crowd fund, he also received R500,000 (or ₦12.7 million) from Shell to donate to a charity of his choice.

Speaking to South African Magazine, Nkosikho explained he was happy with all that has been given to him. He also said he did what he did because it was the right thing to do.

“I am happy that my efforts of helping others are being recognized and passed on to others who also need it the most”

“I didn’t expect any of this for real, I was just helping someone, and the rest was God’s doing”

Nkosikho Mbele, who currently stays with his mother, brother and two children, also spoke about the money that was given directly to him from the Backabuddy crowd fund and his decision not have it transferred to him in cash.

“I cannot be in possession of such a huge amount of money in my bank account, and can you imagine what people would do to me or my family?”

“I asked BackaBuddy to make special provisions of the money, for my two children instead.”

Nkosikho Mbele has been nominated to represent South Africa at the next Shell Global Service Excellence Awards. He is also expected to travel to Zanzibar this month, where he will be celebrated at their Regional Service Excellence Awards.

Swedish automotive giant, Volvo – known with the reputation for producing some of the safest models on the road – recently revealed its 4.5-tonne “XC90 Armoured” SUV that is designed to withstand gunfires and explosions.

The heavily-armoured vehicle, the first Volvo to be awarded a VR8 protection rating – meaning it offers 360-degree protection from AK-47 fire, is a product of the Volvo Cars Special Vehicles unit and World’s famous armoured car provider, TRASCO Bremen in Germany.

According to the images shared on TRASCO Bremen’s website, the mobile fortress – which remained unshakened after several rounds of gunfires and explosions – is made to defeat various ballistics and explosives threats.

In addition to featuring a 10mm-thick reinforced steel and 50mm deep bullet-proofwindows, the modified XC90 is also equipped with secret escape route, deafening horn and fire suppression system under the hood to help extinguish any potential flames. The SUV also get upgraded suspension and new brakes to cope with the weight.

But the specialised heavily-armoured SUV, doesn’t come cheap. It comes with a price tag of £450,000 (₦204 million) – that’s about ₦17 million more than the price of standard Armoured Range Rover Sentinel Sports Utility Vehicle .

The world's most powerful passports have been revealed with Japan and Singapore topping the list. The latest ranking marks an 18-month long winning streak for both countries, after they unseated Germany from its long-held 1st position at the beginning of 2018.

The list, which was compiled by Henley Passport Index, analyses how many countries a passport holder can enter visa-free or on a visa-on-arrival basis.

Japan and Singapore continue to sit on their joint top spot, with each country offering visa-free access to 189 destinations.

Germany now sits in second place along with Finland and South Korea, with citizens of all three countries able to access 187 destinations around the world without a prior visa.

Seychelles (27th) has the strongest passport in Africa. This is followed by Mauritius (31st) and South Africa (54th). Citizens of these three countries can access 150, 145 and 99 destinations around the world without a prior visa, respectively.

Police force in northeastern German state of Brandenburg has taken to twitter to share images of a man who was pulled over after being caught riding his scooter naked.

The naked rider, who was wearing nothing but sandals and Helmet, claimed he was trying to cool down and simply defended his nudity by telling officers: "It’s too hot".

Like most of Western Europe, Germany is facing scorching temperatures, with German authorities imposing motorway speed limits. Some French schools are staying closed as a precaution, after France recorded all-time highest temperature of 45.9°C

German authorities have warned that temperatures could exceed the current 40°C in parts of the Europe over the coming days as a plume of dry, hot air moves north from Sahara, Africa.

7 shipping containers full of illegal drugs have been found and seized by federal authorities at a Philadelphia port in what federal authorities describe as the largest seizure in the region's history.

A senior law enforcement official said more than 15,500 kilos (33,000 pounds) of cocaine were found aboard 1,030-foot Liberian-flagged cargo ship, the MSC Gayane, that previously stopped in Colombia, Chile, Panama and the Bahamas.

Sources said the ship, which is believed to contained enough cocaine to that can kill thousands of people, was not meant for Philadelphia but instead for the Netherlands and France.

In addition to cocaine, containers were filled with wine, paperboard, vegetable extracts and dried nuts from all over the world. They were destined for Ireland, Nigeria, South Africa, Lebanon, India and Haiti.

6 members of the ship's crew have been arrested and charged with violating federal narcotic smuggling laws. Each of them (none of them American citizens) face life in prison.

According to tweets of the U.S. Attorney's Office, the massive cache of drugs, one the largest in the 230-history of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, is estimated to have a street value of $1.1 billion or about ₦396 billion.

A logistical mistake by smugglers has led to the arrival of large shipments of illegal methamphetamine from Mexico to 13 Ford dealerships in three eastern Canadian provinces.  

According to Ontario Provincial Police, employees working at four Ford dealerships, tasked with inspecting newly arrived cars, discovered several of the Ford Fusion sedans came with the wrong type of spare tyres.

Upon closer inspection, the employees found the spare tyres were packed with illegal drugs, methamphetamine. The employees then called the authorities, which began investigating the incident.

At the end of the day, about 400 pounds (180 kilograms) of Meth, estimated to have street value of about $4.5 million or about ₦1.6 billion, where discovered in 9 of 14 vehicles that were searched by authorities at the 13 Ford dealerships.

Canadian and U.S. authorities believe that the 400-pound drug shipment, which was brought into Canada through legal U.S. shipping lanes from Mexico, belongs to the Sinaloa drug cartel, which gained access to the cars after they left the assembly plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. 

About seven days ago, 15500 Kilos of cocaine, worth ₦396 billion, was also seized at US Philadelphia Port when investigators cracked open a 7 shipping containers.

During the just concluded Paris Air Show in France, French subsidiary company of Sweden's Volvo Group, Arquus, unveiled a new 6.6 tons light armored vehicle that is capable of driving sideways.

The 6-foot high, four-person vehicle, known as the Scarabee - which is French for “Beetle”, is designed to replace the French Army's fleet of 730 light armored vehicles by 2025.

Composite materials and new assembly processes give the machine protection against bullets, blasts and mines.

Arquus said:

“We really worked on the speed because that is also a form of protection,”

“If you put a lot of protective armor on a vehicle it makes it very heavy, big, and therefore slow unless you give it a large, powerful engine—in which case you no longer have a small, agile military vehicle.”

Scarabee can reach top speeds of 75mph (120kmph), providing almost 60hp per ton compared to around 20hp per ton for a American Humvee. For that fast acceleration, it needs both its 300hp diesel engine and its electric 103hp motor to be engaged at the same time.

The diesel engine can go for up to 620 miles, while the electric motor would last about six miles. The steering mechanism allows the front and back wheels to turn independent of each other, allowing Scarabee to move sideways like a crab.

Arquus also added :

“That way you can approach the enemy without either turning your back to him or being full front on, but you could also drive crab-like behind a ridge, for example, and yet still have your roof-top gun with its limited turn radius pointing at the enemy"

To provide additional security for the crew inside, the armoured vehicle has two handleless sliding doors that can only be opened from outside by a remote control.

On its roof, the vehicle can be fitted with radar units or weapons such as a 12.7mm heavy machine-gun turret, a 30mm gun to fire anti-tank shells, or a medium-range missile launcher. It can carry up-to two tons of equipment, airborne deployment and even being remotely-controlled.

The armoured vehicle can also be dropped from an Aircraft without a parachute - provided it is from a low height.

Arquus also developed a trailer for the Scarabee that can hual up to 4 tons of material. It also uses an electric motor so it can operate independently of the Scarabee, and can also be remotely controlled.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham needs no introduction in the soccer and entertainment world.

In a career that spanned 21 years in five countries across which he won 11 major trophies and two MLS Cups, it’s fair to say that the current president of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City is one of the most successful footballers of all time.

The former England football star David Beckham is currently serving a six months ban after being caught using his mobile phone behind the wheel of his Bentley car. He was also fined £750, ordered to pay £100 in prosecution costs and a £75 surcharge fee.

Tensions between the US and Iran were at their highest level in years after Tehran shot down a $220m ( or ₦79 billion) high-altitude U.S. drone with a surface-to-air missile last-week Thursday.

Despite the last minute pull back by the United States to lunch military strikes in retaliation for downing the supposed US "stealth" drone, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, has again labelled the White House as "mentally disabled" after the US president announced fresh sanctions against the Middle Eastern nation.

The ongoing confrontations has raised fears that a conflict between the two Nuclear-armed countries would quickly turn into wider war that could consume the entire region and beyond.

According to a report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Nuclear-armed countries are collectively in possession of 13,865 warheads.

Of the 13,865 nuclear weapons estimated by SIPRI in 2019 worldwide, 3,750 are deployed with task forces and nearly 2,000 of them are maintained on high operational alert.

While the number of atomic weapons has dropped sharply since the mid-1980s — when it was almost 70,000 — there's still a considerable number of weapons throughout the world, and they still pose a serious risk of nuclear war one day.

SpaceX on Tuesday launched its Falcon Heavy rocket, the world’s most powerful operational rocket, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida carrying 24 experimental satellites.

Inside one of these satellites, called the General Atomics Orbital Test Bed, are metal capsules, each containing the ashes of 152  deceased individuals.

Celestis, the Spaceflight memorial company in charge of this mission and whose dead participants include children, space enthusiasts, scientists, engineers, astronauts, authors, charges upwards of $5,000 to fly just 1 gram of cremated remains or cremains into orbit.

The cremated remains of Celestis clients will orbit our planet until their cosmic urns eventually re-enter Earth's atmosphere and burn up just like a shooting star.

Luxembourg is set to become the world's first country to make all of its public transportation free to its over 600,000 citizens.

Late last year, Luxembourg made headlines when the newly re-elected prime minister Xavier Bettel and the coalition government announced that they will lift all fares on trains, trams and buses in March 2020.

The ultimate goal of Luxembourg, a country whose traffic congestion is among the worst in the world, is to force people to ditch their cars in order to alleviate some of the worst traffic congestion in the world.

Nigeria's most popular Auto brand Toyota has retained its positions as the most valuable car brand in the world for the seventh consecutive year, according to BrandZ’s ranking of Top 100 Global Brands.

Mercedes and BMW also retained their positions in second and third place, with both German manufacturers declining 9% of market value.

Toyota, which retained its dominance in the automotive industry with a market value of $ 29.1 billion (minus 3%), has been the most valuable car brand in the world in 12 of the 14 years that this study was made.

A number of global Airlines, including British Airways, KLM, Qantas and Lufthansa, have confirmed that they will not fly over Iranian airspace, following advice from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) banning all US carriers from the route.

The warning follows the tensions between the US and Iran after Iran shot down a $220m ( or ₦79 billion) high-altitude U.S. drone with a surface-to-air missile and comes after commander of the Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, boasted he could have shot down a US P8 aircraft with 35 personnel on board while it was violating Iran’s airspace.

He also said Iran decided to shoot down the US surveillance drone, which he said was in Iranian airspace, to only send a message to Washington.

Federal Aviation Administration said:

British Airways, Air France, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Malaysia Airlines, Australia's Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines Ltd and KLM have all confirmed they were re-routing their flights to avoid the area.

Collections of multi-million dollars Supercars and Hypercars, previously owned by the son of the president Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, will be sold off during a Bonhams auction scheduled for September 29 near Geneva.

The 25 collections of supercars, which includes an Aston Martin One-77, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari LaFerrari, Koenigsegg One:1, Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and McLaren P1, were seized by Swiss authorities in 2016 as part of a wider investigation by French authorities over his alleged misappropriation of state funds.

And to mark the anniversary of making things fly, the World's second largest Aircraft maker brought together its modern and efficient family of aircraft for a special family flight across the city of Toulouse as well as over Blagnac airport where Airbus is based.

The fly-pasts in Toulouse featured the full Airbus  commercial jetliners family, including the A380, A350, A330, A320 and Beluga XL, along with Dassault Alpha Jets of Patrouille de France aerobatic demonstration team.

British Airways Parent IAG Signs $24bn Deal To Buy 200 Boeing 737 Max Despite Its Worldwide Grounding

World's largest aerospace company Boeing got a huge vote of confidence for its troubled and grounded 737 Max aircraft on Tuesday as International Airlines Group (IAG) announced it plans to buy 200 of the jets.

International Airlines Group (IAG) and Boeing said the two companies have been in discussions regarding the opportunity and signed a letter of intent at the Paris Air Show in a deal that would be valued at more than $24 billion, per list prices.

IAG, the parent company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Vueling and LEVEL, is one of the world's largest airline groups with 582 aircraft flying to 268 destinations, carrying combined 113 million passengers in 2018.

Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive, said: 

"We're very pleased to sign this letter of intent with Boeing and are certain that these aircraft will be a great addition to IAG's short-haul fleet," said Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive. "We have every confidence in Boeing and expect that the aircraft will make a successful return to service in the coming months having received approval from the regulators."

In selecting the 737 MAX, IAG says it will fly a combination of the 737 MAX 8, which seats up to 178 passengers in a two-class configuration, and the larger 737 MAX 10 jet, which can accommodate as many as 230 passengers.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President & CEO, Kevin McAllister, said :

"We are truly honored and humbled by the leadership at International Airlines Group for placing their trust and confidence in the 737 MAX and, ultimately, in the people of Boeing and our deep commitment to quality and safety above all else,"

"We are delighted that the IAG team recognized the superior qualities of the 737 MAX and has indicated an intention to return to the Boeing 737 family. We look forward to building on our long-standing partnership with IAG for many years to come."

The ordered 737 MAX aircraft is still the best selling jet ever. Boeing has continued to build the troubled jet despite its worldwide grounding in mid-March after the fatal crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia.

No one knows when the 737 Max's will return to service.
