PoliticsUduaghan Did Not Walk Out Of Pdp Meeting by obazman(op): 7:39pm On Mar 18, 2013
UDUAGHAN DID NOT WALK OUT OF PDP MEETING

The attention of the Delta State Government has been drawn to reports in sections of the press on the outcome of the South-South Special Zonal Executive Committee Meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and presided over by the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
Some newspapers, notably The Punch, Daily Champion, People’s Daily and DailyNewswatch reported that the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, walked out of the meeting alongside the host governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. This is absolutely untrue.
On arrival in Port Harcourt, Dr. Uduaghan had informed Alhaji Tukur of his desire to return to Asaba same day. Given that Asaba Airport closes to air traffic by 5pm, the Governor had sought the permission of the chairman to exit the meeting whenever it gets to the threshold of arriving Asaba Airport ahead of its closure to air traffic.
Alhaji Tukur had graciously agreed to let Governor Uduaghan leave to enable him return to Asaba on time. When eventually it was time to leave for the return flight to Asaba, Dr. Uduaghan again notified the chairman who wished him a safe flight.
Governor Amaechi, as the host governor, had to see Dr. Uduaghan off.
At no time was there any disagreement to elicit a walk out by anybody. Alhaji Tukur had conducted the meeting in an atmosphere of candour and camaraderie and before Dr. Uduaghan left the meeting, all the parties present had addressed the meeting.
Speaking earlier at the meeting, Governor Uduaghan said whatever differences members of the party may have, they should come together in the interest of the party. He also called on the leadership of the PDP to endeavour to empower its members to engender greater commitment towards strengthening the party. He said alongside providing requisite infrastructure and a clement environment for businesses to grow, the leadership should evolve measures to empower the party’s faithful.
He commended the leadership of the party, especially the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, for his commitment to foster unity in the party, observing that the Governors who emerged on the PDP platform in the South South zone were delivering practical dividends of democracy to the people.
Dr. Uduaghan noted that apart from the provision of infrastructure, it was also important for the electorate to be empowered, asserting that "we are committed to ensuring that the PDP will continue to have its stronghold in the South South".
Also speaking on behalf of Chairmen of the PDP in different states in the zone, the Delta State Chairman of the party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, thanked Alhaji Tukur for playing a fatherly role for the party, noting that the PDP will always emerge victorious in elections.
The Governor of Delta State is a loyal member of the PDP and holds the office and person of the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Tukur in high esteem.
We want to assume that the journalists who misrepresented the events may have genuinely misunderstood the early departure of Governor Uduaghan who was accompanied to the airport by Governor Amaechi. However, to have reached a serious conclusion as their reports did in stating that the two governors walked out of the meeting required more diligence. It is obvious that no official from any state could have suggested such interpretation to the press as no such thing happened. In effect, it is important that arm chair interpretations must be eschewed by the press in reporting events of national significance.
As every other political group, the PDP also has challenges to contend with. But has been the hallmark of the party, every issue is always resolved amicably.
Governor Uduaghan is a leader that has distinguished himself in the exercise of democratic principles and will never engage in acts that do not bind or unite. Besides, a platform was, in the spirit of reconciliation and progress of the party, provided for all to air their views.

PoliticsLate Chief Efe Akpobi: How He Was Remembered & Forgottened At Deat By The Living by obazman(op): 9:59am On Dec 19, 2012
LATE CHIEF CHRISTOPHER EFE AKPOBI: How He Was Remembered and Forgottened at death By the Living.
The death of the great father of love, Chief Christopher Efe Akpobi reminded me of the Irish Saying that "the tree remains, but not the hand that planted it" Though i have been battling with how i can put the memory of his death behind me, the funeral service held on Friday 14th December, 2012 in Oviorie, Ethiope- East Local Government Council of Delta State, brought its memory back in my mind. As the saying above reflected, Akpobi was a planter of many trees in the Political field especially in Delta State. While those trees remain and blossom in existence, the planter suddenly bid a farewell to the world and went to join his ancestors in a very gallant manner.
The Late Chief Efe Akpobi, a former Registrar of the Petroleum Training Institute(PTI), Effurun and once Chairman, Delta State Primary Education Board(SPEB) was a great father, a philanthropist, a builder of hope, a political broker, architect of peace and servant of humanity.Though, the burial of this great man was not an avenue to assess how those he contributed immensely to their lives would accord him at death his last respect and love, the  events at his burial ceremony and lessons learnt therefrom will remain longer in my memory than his demise. The deviation from my expectations on that day prompted me to do this piece. Why is it so? The reader may interestingly ask! The answer is not far-fetched. To me, the burial ceremony of a deceased loved one, is the last place to accord such person the last respect and love due. According to Napoleon, the late Akpobi was a Leader dealing in hope. However, many of his hopes concerning his dear people and state were not met before death invited him home. As a man who was not interested in becoming successful, Akpobi was busy creating value in every life he came across to the best he can offer. This can be proved by the spirit of an average Nigerian of his political class and position boasting until death of having only one hut over his head on planet earth. The rest of his achievements was invested in the hopes and future of the hopeless that came his way. This was why i said that the events of Friday 14th December, 2012 would remain very long in my memory.
Having a very shallow knowledge of the man-Akpobi while growing up as a young man, an uncle once told me about how the late 'Architect of hope' for the helpless,  established his future, by making his dream of becoming an Engineer a reality. His story moved me to study this man at a very close rank and i came to terms with the people that described him as a generous man and a welfarist. What really endeared him to me, was his philosophy that the best life to live was to live for the society and humanity.  To him, serving people's wishes and pains was his number one priority as he wakes up every morning. As a Registrar, he assisted those who could have been denied admission into the PTI in his days. When he was appointed as the Chairman State Primary Education Board,SPEB, by Governor James Ibori, many who knew him before the time heaved a sigh of relief as the day for the development of our public schools was dawn. Deltans still remember how the late Akpobi, as a mediator between Government and the  people of Delta State was fighting government Contractors over completion of contracts awarded them under his board. It was due to his tireless efforts that the massive renovations and constructions of new Primary Schools Classroom Blocks done during the Ibori administration were achieved.
In the last general elections for the gubernatorial position of Delta State, Chief Efe Akpobi gave it all to the support of his Urhobo brother, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru being a lover and believer of the Urhobo course. As a Politician, the Late Akpobi groomed a lot of political actors  you see in Delta state today especially in the Delta Central where he hailed from. There is hardly any political think tank in the present political dispensation in Urhobo land that was never affected in one way or the other through an affiliation with the late Efe Akpobi. So, one was wondering where were the likes of the Deputy Governor of Delta state, Prof Amos Agbe Utuama, Dr. Chris Oghenechovwen, Dr A P Fovie, Ejaife Odebala, Ufuoma Obule, Hon Evelyn, Terry Noah, Sen. Pius Akpor Ewherido, the so-called political messiah of the Urhobo Nation, Chief Ovedje Ogboru etc when such a father of many political figures was being buried. I wish the dead can see?
At the burial Ceremony of this great man of influence and political icon, the Biblical story of the 10 Lepers healed by Jesus came into reflection ones again. The Bible says in the Gospel book of Luke 17:15-17 that out of the 10 Lepers that were healed, only one returned to Jesus acknowledging Him as the source of his healing. How do I mean? I mean that not many that were calling the late Efe Akpobi, father or leader when he was alive meant it.  The role call was made but not many were found.  Apart from Olorogun(Sen) Akpor Pius Ewherido who showed up during the outing and thanksgiving Service at the St. Matthews Catholic Church, Oviorie, the rest of the DPP family whom he was ready to sacrifice his life for  during the last 2011 general elections, including their leader and messiah, Chief Great Ogboru did not show any sign of love for the late leader.
Chief Amori, Olorogun (Hon) Akpodiogaga-a Sunny Emeyese could not forget in a haste how the late Akpobi affected their lives politically and other wise. It is still very fresh in ones memory, what happened in Oviorie when Chief Amori visited the Late Akpobi seeking his blessings and endorsement for the Senatorial race in the Delta Central on a day about 14 Youths almost lost their lives if not for the timely intervention of the late chief. So, i commend Chief Amori  to have come in person to honour 'the Cream of Delta politics' at death. Hon. Emeyese was also present at the burial of the political general, to give him his last respect. There is one man i must not forget to mention in this piece. He is the  honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning Delta State,  Mr. Kenneth Okpara. If you ask me, I will tell you that I know nothing or very little about the relationship between the late Akpobi and Mr. Okpara as the latter is  very new in the politics of the state,  yet he came to accord the man his last respect.
Albus Dumbledore, when he saw the way people were pitying the dead  Harry including passers-by and friends on the day of his funeral, he advised thus; "Do not  pity the dead Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love". So, in the same vein I will advise 'the living without love' that there is no love to show God than the love you show to  humanity. At death, Akpobi was suddenly forgotten by the likes of Prof Amos Utuama, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, Dr Chris Oghenechovwen, Dr. A. P Fovie, Terry Noah, the Okumagbas, the UPU, the Gbinijes, Odebala Ejaife, Charles Obule, Prof Hope Eghagha, Hon Evelyn and host of others. How soon the good works done by the dead are forgotten? Sleep on Chief C. E. Akpobi, the provider of hope to the helpless, Adieu the protector of the weak!!!

UDUAGHAN PROMISES CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE AS DELSUTH TEAM UP WITH UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS ON KIDNEY TRANSPLANT

GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN (2NDRIGHT), EXECUTIVE VP AND PROVOST DEAN, SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL SCHOOL, DR. J. GREGORY FRITZ (2ND LEFT), CMD, DELSUTH, DR. LESLIE AKPORIAYE (LEFT) AND DR. PETER IGARASHI, DURING THE SIGNING OF THE MOU IN DALLAS, TEXAS.

Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara (DELSUTH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSMC) to develop a centre of excellence for kidney transplant and treatment of kidney related diseases.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who led a delegation of the State officials to UTSMC, explained that the objective of the MOU was to “establish a partnership that promotes joint initiatives in the fields of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation between the parties”.

According to him, it would take between 14 and 16 months to set up the fields of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation of internationally acceptable standards at DELSUTH.

Specifically, this requires improvement of the Dialysis centre, the Laboratory, Radiology and Theatre departments of DELSUTH into centers of excellence.

To achieve this, the Governor disclosed that the State Government would in the next 10 months, enhance the infrastructures and equipment at DELSUTH as well as the capacity of the personnel.

He said that the personnel at DELSUTH would be sent to UTSMC for specialization and refresher courses to enable them cope with the new facilities and discharge their duties efficiently.

Dr. Uduaghan noted that the overall objective was to make the facilities for nephrology and kidney transplant available and at a cheaper rate for the people.

Besides, he said that it was part of the State’s larger policy of boosting medical tourism as well as enhancing the internally generated revenue base of the State.

The MOU was signed on behalf of DELSUTH, by Dr. Leslie Akporiaye, Chief Medical Director of DELSUTH and witnessed by Dr Daniel Omodon, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health.

Dr Peter Igarashi signed on behalf of UTSMC while Dr Juan Arenas witnessed. The UTSMC delegation was led by its executive vice president, Dr J Gregory Fitz.

In his remarks, Dr Fitz expressed delight at not just the collaboration between DELSUTH and UTSMC but the enthusiasm and determination shown by the Delta State Government on behalf of DELSUTH.

In particular, he said that the presence of the Governor at the signing of the MOU was an indication of the seriousness attached to the project by the Government.

Recently, DELSUTH successfully carried out knee replacement as well as cement-free hip replacement which are major surgery procedures rarely undertaken in Nigeria.

In fact, the cement-free hip surgery carried out by DELSUTH, at Oghara was the first of its kind in Nigeria.

UDUAGHAN CELEBRATES 58TH BIRTHDAY WITH FLOOD VICTIM IN REHABILITATION CAMPS

Delta state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan on Monday 22nd 2012 celebrated his 58th birthday with flood victims in the state, expressing his happiness that they are looking healthy and well looked after.
The governor who expressed surprise that they were looking so healthy and radiant asked whether they were the same victims he had visited sometime ago to which they chorused ‘yes.’
Expressing happiness at the turn of event he said “It is difficult to believe that you are the flood victims who stay here. I am happy that you are looking so well. I am here to celebrate my birth day with you and to assure you that I want your happiness and will always care for you”.
Governor Uduaghan said: “There are some people who do not have the comfort of their beds to sleep on, clothes to put on or any material to boast of, those are the people I want to mark my birthday with and the best gift you can give me today is to get a cloth or something precious to any of the rehabilitation camps today or tomorrow.”
Dr Uduaghan said he was celebrating the birthday with them to put smiles on their faces and divert their attention from the disaster they went through.
The governor also said he deviated from his previous style of celebration because of the flood victims explaining that rather than marking it with close political associates he chose to celebrate it with the flood victims to give them a sense of belonging.
Dr Uduaghan visited all the relief camps in the state, including Asaba, Illah, Kwale, Ozoro, Oleh, Ughelli, Oginibo (Ughelli South LGA), Ogbe-Ijo, etc., said he was dedicating the birthday to the flood victims in order to identify with their sufferings at this time of their lives.
At each of the camps children and adults sang happy birthday and cut the cake with the governor who was accompanied by his wife.
It was an interesting sight to behold especially as the flood victims who previously wore sorrowful looks some days back were gaily dressed and danced with enthusiasm.
In another development, more relief materials were donated to the camps by concerned citizens in the state.
The governor assured the displaced victims that the materials would be evenly distributed to the various camps in the state and guaranteed that the items would be used judiciously.
Dr Uduaghan commended well meaning Deltans, Nigerians who had stepped up to assist the government in caring for the displaced victims saying that their good gesture could only be repaid by God Himself.
