Daboomb:
I must thank you for this post!
I have been pondering whether to react to what some are saying here but being that l dont sugar-coat words and l am not given to hypocrisy, l restrained myself with the hope that someone else will take up the gauntlet!

I dont know how to describe it but for someone to say that "Consumers intentionally buy sub-standard/fake products, simply because it is cheaper", is a reflection of our criminally-minded orientation.
Such mentality as we have seen, can only be supported by people who are UNPRINCIPLED and SYCOPHANTIC by their very sheer nature.

Basically, what that person or seller is saying is that: You came to me with x-amount of money, to purchase a "product Y" but because your money is not enough to purchase the GENUINE "product Y", instead of telling you the truth and asking you to go back and add to your money, he thinks "in his mind",: I will still collect the amount-X from this buyer but will give him something that l will claim "will still do the job" when in all honesty, l know it is counterfeit, will not do the job and might even turn out to be dangerous to the buyer and others within his sphere of influence!
In short, the product the consumer is finally given is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!
Only GREED makes anyone to have such mentality!

Let me say it here: No consumer intentionally buys a fake product.
if you want to "prove" me wrong, just offer the Fake and the original to the consumer, identify them clearly and let him know that "both" go for the same price. LET US NOW SEE WHICH ONE THE CONSUMER WILL PICK.

Obviously, the consumer will pick the original.

This therefore means that "if a consumer buys a fake product, knowing that it is fake", the determining factor, is the PRICE-DIFFERENCE.
So, what we have is scenario where the dubious seller, price-low the fake product, to serve as an incentive for the consumer to pick that, while inflating the price of the original, to serve as a dis-incentive for the "poor" consumer, not to buy such.

The underlying psychology of such 'sellers' is to play on the level of poverty within Nigeria and the lack of enforcement of criminal laws, as it relates to "counterfeiting" of goods and services.

No consumer will intentionally and knowing so, buy a fake product but some are forced to buy it, because they have no option as they are constrained financially, by the dubious seller who has inflated the price fo the original beyond their reach.

In countries where they operate fairly towards each other, their is a 'base-price' for all products, the price is not determined by whether it is "fake or genuine". It is always genuine!.
It could only be cheaper as you have mentioned, when it is GENERIC, but it is still and GENUINE as the proprietary one (those who price based on brand-name).

Why cant these sellers and their apologists, insist that they would not import or manufacture Counterfeit products and will not sell same?
It is now left for the buyer to stump up the price for what is available?

Until the govt starts treating manufacturers, importers and sellers of these Counterfeit products as economic saboteurs and slamming them in jail, for upwards of twenty years, we will kepp killing our people on this alter of GREED.
Its nothing but GREED.
You are a honest, blunt, most objective and principled individual with high level integrity. Keep up the good work bro.

Thanks I have checked it but they are expensive compared to the advert I saw on nairaland here. Someone advertise shingles for 3100 per Sqm. Honestly I need something good and very cheap now cos I am running out of cash...
@ ibiboss, have you decided on any yet? any heads up on rate and design? Better than the one advertised here some weeks back?
Your quick response will be helpful.
Thanks

That is why I said the real ones are expensive... Wichtech and TILCOR are the best.. but then be aware of fake look-alike.
I heard there are other good brands from Korea but I have never used any... Spyder880 schooled us one time about it here.
I am sure Kolashangone and Segzy14 or other pro will pickup this and tell us more about their qualities.

Hajji M.
Thanks bro. Appreciate your forthrightness. We all will get there and in God's time too. You are blessed.

They are very nice o and no noise from roof like aluminiums but a little expensive for the real original version.
Just make sure you get original that will not fade in few months/years.

Oga Hajji M, any contact info on where to get a good deal for the original one?
Proposals from Wichtech and Tilcor seem a little high for "kobokobo" guy like me.
Your support will be appreciated bro.
Thanks

Sir you mean Tilcor gave you a proposal of 3,400 naira in May this yearhuh
Attached are the quotes from Tilcor as received. I have scanned both in jpeg and pdf.
Of course I have taken out my name off that proposal. Was on the 26th May 2017.
Had to take out some other information so as not to breach any laws; including regulations on this hallowed chamber sad sad sad

I will appreciate any better proposal as I have not concluded with them. I have barely a month to roof covering

Wow!!! I had thought the company would have a better quality than what we have in the open market. The proposal they gave me per sqm early in May was N3400 while I got N3200 in the open market and as advertised here for the Shingles.

Pls, let us know if we have something better in terms of pricing and of good quality and dependable. We are looking @ our roofing in another 3 weeks. Lets hope the house can help with useful information too. Thanks
PropertiesRe: 5 Important Points For Accurate Quantity Of Woods Needed 4 Your Roofing Project. by Obeseke: 4:04pm On Jun 13, 2017
ganiuedu:
I have been browsing this site for several years and am grateful for contributions provided by Nairalanders. I personally did not have smooth experience with HSL broker regarding my wood work. I ended up buying more wood and paying more money for the carpenters than quoted. The wood spacing were uneven but thank God the roof is completed. I was willing to try HSL Broker again and give him my septic tank/soak away project. Thus far, i am not impressed but we shall see how it goes. I was hopeful that I will be able to use mostly Nairalanders for all my projects but now I am not sure. I do not have any complain about other professional Nairalander such as Topsy and Muyeski that are handling my project so far.
@ Chief Ganiuedu, what exactly happened? Is it the quantity of materials you ordered that was inadequate or what was supplied to you was short of your request? Who determined the quantity of wood that was supplied to you_ your QS, Engineer or HSLBroker? How about the QUALITY or TYPE of wood supplied? Did you or do you have any issues with that? How do you mean you had to pay more money for the carpenters than quoted? Did he charge you additional for the roofing of the carcass afterwards since you claimed you had to buy more wood?
Did you make your concerns known to him? What was his reaction? Was he able to proffer a resourceful solution?

You would have helped someone else to make an informed decision providing answers to these questions raised

Thanks

I recently bought wood somewhere in the east @ the prices listed below;

3x 4 x 12= 800

2x 4 x 12= 450

2x 3 x 18= 550

1 x 10x 12= 1300

Good luck.
My advise is you buy it yourself then negotiate for workmanship with the carpenter.
Do 2 x 3 come in 16ft or 12ft? Have bought about 450 pieces in Lagos but it has been about 12ft maximum @ N350 each. Have I been short-changed somehow? Kindly help clarify to avoid a recurrence pls.

Gbam. My Landlord collects yearly rent from me. The rent falls due on early October. Imagine after being broke from paying school fees for a new term in September, a Landlord expects me to immediately cough up a year's rent. If i was paying monthly, i would have been able to immediately pay the one month after paying school fees.
If you must know, one of your major priorities, even before education, is accommodation. If you do not have a place to live, everything goes wrong. So don't take advantage of the inefficient system in the country to dupe or cheat your landlord. You will get your reward if you choose to do so. Would you rather that you go on vacation abroad than paying your rent all through the year? Set your priorities right. Property owners are also human and some could be more reasonable. Am sure some will accept part payment if you approach them with it against promises. How do you justify one who was begging the landlord and the managing company and making unfulfilled promises to pay till they move out of the apartment only for the landlord to later be informed by other tenants that that family went on vacation to the USA after he had moved out of the apartment with the unpaid rent? It really takes a lot of discipline to be responsible.

The issue of rent is planning-based, and a matter of priority and discipline. If monthly rent is agreed, you would be amazed how much default you would still have. When you know you would not be able to pay your rent all at once (perhaps because your monthly take home would not be able to accommodate it), why not save the monthly rent due for keeps in the bank ? Sensitive as the issue is, some do not take it serious. It also seems the Lagos State Tenancy Law of 2011 has not helped matters considering the notices landlords are required to give to tenants. Can you imagine a tenant who told the landlord and managing company that he was facing financial difficulty could afford to travel abroad on vacation with the family; he only chose to not pay rent all through the year till he moved out of the apartment!!! And all the while was begging and promising heaven and earth!!! Not until he moved out without paying the rent for a whole year did the landlord hear from other tenants that he did travel with the family on vacation same year he did not pay. It is better we have our priorities right so that we do not run into problems. No doubt, money and the era we are in Nigeria now are hard. But with proper planning and discipline, one should be able to survive.

Can this be said to apply to Lagos or South West too? What's the latest so far on cost of materials including cement?

Nigeria shall be great and green again soonest by the grace of the Almighty

Mayor78:
Ebi like say prices don dey come down. Last week got quoted N2350 per square metre for 0.45 guage Aluminium (Metcopo) but yesterday got a revised quote of N1950/sqm same Metcopo at Onitsha.

Similarly woods coming down as well
2x4x18 hardwood down from N900 to N780
3x4x22 hardwood down from N800 to N600

Saving me around N285K total cost on roofing wood alone buying this week as against last week. Onitsha price.

Is this experience similar else where and on other materials?

On Monday you get the update.
Today is Wednesday, March 1, 2017 and yet, the update that was promised for Monday, February 27 has not come in. Business men in Nigeria have contributed in no small measure to the near collapse of the Nigerian economy with their insincerity, greed and self-centredness. When prices are on the increase, they are quick to effect and report. Now that $1=415, everybody is silent as if the reason justifying the upward review still exists. Our patriotism as a people will forever be in doubt as long as we refuse to change our mindset. Fellow Nairalanders, let us all walk the talk as we await the update from Chekitaut. God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Akeredolu Goes To Court Of Appeal To Dissolve Ondo Councils by Obeseke:
It is interesting how some would come online to condemn the action of the Governor who has approached the court of higher jurisdiction on this matter if the news item is true. It would then be a confirmation that Ondo State is lucky to have a Governor who knows the constitutionality of the LG and is desirous to follow the rule of law. Did anybody ever wonder why, for over 7 years of governing Ondo State, Mimiko did not conduct the LG Election? Throughout his tenure, until sometimes April 2016 when he had barely 9 months to go, he decided to have an 'arrangee' LG Election which did not follow the due process and which the major opposition, the APC in Ondo State, boycotted and warned to challenge its outcome in the law court if Mimiko went ahead to 'conduct'. Ostensibly Mimiko had wanted to use the platform to 'rig' the election into winning for his 'anointed candidate' @ the Governorship Elction in December 2016. Why should anyone now expect Akeredolu to work with Mimiko's selected Chairmen and Councillors who he imposed even on legitimate PDP members simply because he was the Governor? If the Court of Appeal grants his (the incumbent Governor's) prayer to dissolve the LG, so be it. Ordinary he could have gone ahead with the dissolution (without blinking an eyelid) and the case would forever linger in court had he not meant well for the people of Ondo State. Isn't it on record today that the selected councillors and chairmen are owed several months of salaries and allowances despite that they were his 'chosen' disciples? Did Mimiko not dissolve the Council back in 2009 when he came on board and the case, till tomorrow, lingers in court? Did he not dissolve the ODIEC without recourse to constitutional provisions and the rule of law? Let's see how it plays out at the Court of Appeal and ultimately the Supreme Court. The day of reckoning is @ hand and Mimiko will continue to regret his actions and inactions against the wishes and interests of the good people of Ondo State. Mimiko was selfish and too overwhelmingly garulous in ruling Ondo State despite being a governor in a democratic era. This is the line our focused and purpose driven erudite and law abiding governor does not want to toe. Can you beat his inaugural speechhuh Starting with the foundation of humanity and the ever living father!!! Sure, Aketi is destined for success and no doubt, he shall take our dearly beloved Sunshine State of Ondo to an enviable height. He is determined to redeem the radiating glory which the administration of Mimiko lost especially in his 2nd Term in office. Let's support Aketi all the way and we would be better of for it. Long Live Akeredolu! Long Live Ondo State!! Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

With the focus of the thread's analysis on results from the Central and Southern Senatorial Districts of the state, and having the margin this close, I make a call (like CNN will do) that APC is winning the 2016 Gubernatorial Election of Ondo State. The call is a function of the strength and stronghold of APC in the Northern Senatorial District where APC has cruised to victory already.

This is my humble submission as we await the electoral umpire to make their declaration.
