Presently my solar charge controller is 20ah pwm and I have 4 pieces of 150 watts panel. My battery bank is 400 ah. My question is this: is my charge controller undersize?

My installer told me that I only need a 30ah solar charge controller when I am operating on a 3.5kva inverter system which is bigger compared to my present 1.5 kva inverter. I need more clarification on this pls.

Charge rate should be 10% + about 2.5% of battery amperage, so a good 40amp MPPT charge controller.
Three 150 watts solar panels minimum depending on how much ah you use daily.

Are you running on 12v or 24v, if you are running on 12v, then your battery bank is 400ah,and you need a 40amp charge controller. MPPT is better

My installer told me that since my inverter is a 1.5 kva and a 400 ahms battery bank, I do not need a 30 ahms charger controller talk more of a 40 ahms charge controller. My question still goes thus: how many 150 watts panel do I need to charge my 400 ahms battery bank at maximum speed. I run on a 12v system. Answers will be appreciated.

I have a 1.5kva inverter and 2pcs of 200 ahms battery. Recently I had to support my battery with 4 pieces of 150 watts solar panel and a 20 ahms pwm charge controller.My question is: how many 150 watts panel do I need to charge my battery equivalent to Phcn power?
2ndly I have this feeling that an mppt charge controller would have been a better option. Pls gurus in the house shld come to my rescue.

My blame still goes to the school authorities.. If u look at our private universities, I'll notice that cohabitation is at its lowest ebb.

Investing in the building off hostels off campus is becoming very lucrative,cus while u're still building, students are ready to pay in advance.

I think the blame goes to our universities who have failed in providing adequate accommodation for students within the school campus.

chris81964: The biggest difference is the price. An MPPT cost almost double. On the outside you can't tell. Some Chinese manufacturers do sell a PWM as MPPT, so be careful. All MPPT have PWM capabilities. If you need to get that extra 30% from your array MPPT is worth the money.

chris81964: Get a 30 AMP charge controller and about 500 Watts in panels and you will be fine. If you can find an MPPT controller at a reasonable price it will be your best bet

Talking abt charge controllers, I must confess that I appreciate the level of enlightenment I've gotten from this thread. How can one distinguish btw an MPPT charge controller & a PWM

chris81964: I did not read where you told us what you want to charge with the panels. Do you have an inverter and batteries or are you looking to put together a system. If you have an existing system what is the voltage and how many AH do you have?

Yes I have a 1.4kva inverter,24 volts. 2 set of 200ah battery. The connection is in series.

For those asking for my consumption... Presently I use four fans, two LED TV 32inches and five energy saver bulbs. Now my question goes again; What size of solar panel will suit my consumption. 2ndly what size of charge controller shld I go for?

The challenge I have now is that my area hardly have light from phcn which leaves me with no option than to charge my inverter with my generator. I'm tired of charging my inverter with generator. If I'm to go for solar, what size of solar panel & what size of mppt charge controller will I go for? pls gurus in the house I await ur reply.
