Politics / Lauretta Onochie: EndSARS Campaign Is A Coordinated Attack By Cyber Criminals by Obio4real(m): 1:57pm On Oct 04, 2020 |
The presidency has reacted to the current campaign to end the activities of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Grassroot Reporters reports. An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, reacting to the renewed campaign, said the campaign is "coordinated attack by cyber criminals" who are joined by unsuspecting citizens. She said that this not the first time such attack is being launched on government institution, calling on Nigerians to stand by institutions while working on its effectiveness. She wrote on her Twitter handle: "I have no doubt that there are some staff of SARS who are unprofessional in their dealings with the public, same way we have unprofessionalism in the Army, Mainstream Police, Customs, Civil Service, Public Service, traders, lawyers, doctors, journalists, teachers, pastors etc. " But what is going on now, is a COORDINATED ATTACK BY CYBER CRIMINALS joined by UNSUSPECTING INNOCENT CITIZENS. "This not the first time. We must stand by our national institutions while working to improve their effectiveness. That's what patriotism is about. NO SENTIMENTS." While most women are praying for the fruit of the womb, another does not see children as gifts that should be cherished. It is true that most women's prayer is for God to bless them with twins but what could make a mother to give birth to twins and dump them in the dustbin? Residents of Goldie by Mayne Avenue Extension, Calabar South, Cross River State, were in shock to find two dead babies dumped at the refuse dump site in the area by an unknown woman on Friday, July 17, 2020, reports GRASSROOT REPORTERS. The babies are believed to have been delivered last night because of the undetached umbilical cord found on the babies. A resident of the area, Glory Essien told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that it is the height of wickedness for a mother to have done that to the babies. She said "As of 9pm when I passed through that area, I didn't see something like that. I believe the dastardly act must have been done when everyone must have gone to bed. When I woke up this morning, I saw people gathered there, so I decided to go check what was happening. This is wickedness, I must say". ... Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Cross River State Health Commissioner Medical doctors in private and government owned hospitals in Cross River State have issued a notice of an indefinite strike action to demand for explanation on "why, the five (5) COVID-19 confirmed cases from UCTH carried out at the NCDC accredited Molecular Laboratory at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State have not reflected in the daily situation report of NCDC long after results had been transmitted to UCTH since July 1, 2020". Grassroot Reporters reports Recall that GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported that the Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme last week, announced in an internal memo that 5 samples of its patients sent to the NCDC approved Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki returned positive but the NCDC daily data report shows Cross River State has not recorded any case of Covid-19 yet. The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the umbrella body of doctors in Nigeria made this known on Sunday in a letter signed by its Cross River State Chairman, Dr. Agam Ayuk and Secretary, Dr. Ezoke Epoke and addressed to the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire. The doctors also demanded to know why epidemiology code numbers have to be generated by Cross River State Ministry of Health before results of samples sent by UCTH to an NCDC approved Molecular Laboratory can be published by NCDC, despite having approved UCTH as an independent Test Centre. The association also passed a Vote of No Confidence on the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu. The letter reads: The Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State branch held an Emergency General Meeting on Sunday, July 5, 2020 to deliberate on the current issues of COVID-19 testing, surveillance, contact tracing, isolation, treatment and care in the State. The following observations and resolutions were made: 1) The Association deeply appreciates the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Health through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) in declaring University of Calabar Teaching Hospital an Independent Test Centre and the eventual activation of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Molecular Laboratory and Dr. Lawrence Henshaw Memorial Hospital Calabar for COVID-19 PCR Testing. We sincerely thank them for this. 2) The Association demands explanation from NCDC, why, the five (5) COVID-19 confirmed cases from UCTH carried out at the NCDC accredited Molecular Laboratory at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State have not reflected in the daily situation report of NCDC long after results had been transmitted to UCTH since July 1, 2020. Congress demands update of the NCDC situation report as a matter of urgent public health interest. 3) Congress demands explanations from NCDC, why, epidemiology code numbers have to be generated by Cross River State Ministry of Health before results of samples sent by UCTH to an NCDC approved Molecular Laboratory can be published by NCDC, despite having approved UCTH as an independent Test Centre. 4) The NCDC is put on notice that the Cross River State Government have abdicated her responsibility of contact tracing, treatment and care for the five (5) confirmed cases which may not be unconnected with the delay in publication of the results by NCDC. Congress demands the immediate activation of Adiabo Isolation Centre and commencement of surveillance and contact tracing in the State. 5) The members of the Association and residents of Cross River State have been put in a precarious public health and safety situation due to the confusion and uncertainty created by the delayed updating of the results by NCDC. 6) Congress demands explanation from NCDC, why, despite several complaints of compromised testing in the State, investigations have not commenced on the unethical activities carried out by Cross River State COVID-19 Task Force. 7) The Association passed a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE on the Honorable Commissioner for Health – Dr. Betta Edu, and further referred her to the NMA National Disciplinary Committee and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for the unethical handling of COVID-19 testing in the State, thus putting lives at risk and bringing the Association to disrepute. Arising from the meeting, all members of Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State branch in public and private hospitals have embarked on a total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services until NCDC and the State Ministry of Health give urgent and prompt attention to the issues raised. 9) We trust that the relevant authorities will act decisively, within the shortest possible time to bring to a timely end our total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services.
