The Accelerated Control of HIV Epidemic and Sustainability Solution (ACCESS) project is a comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment program to be implemented in Abia, Enugu and Imo States. It is a 5-year program (October, 2022 to September, 2027) to be implemented by Caritas Nigeria in partnership with; Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Vantage Technology and African Disease Prevention and Research Development Initiative (ADRAP) as the sole Implementing Partner in these states.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will primarily ensure data availability in all provided platforms such that stakeholders are able to take data guided decisions particularly in reference to CBO efforts. The person will work with all service delivery focal persons to ensure that quality documentation in all provided national tools (electronic and paper-based) are carried out. He/She will manage the CBO database and be able to update reports to reflect the status of supported clients. He/She will work with the CCFN SI team to keep track of service delivery to CBO led clients through prescribed reporting platforms. They will additionally ensure the availability of quality data through regular scheduled data verifications and validations activities. S/he will ensure the availability and use of Program Monitoring and Evaluation tools. S/he will assist in the general implementation of SI deliverables in the CBO linked health facilities and contribute to the overall success of Caritas Nigeria’s objectives

Key Areas of Accountability.

Coordinate M&E activities for the CBO to ensure appropriate standards are established for data availability, quality, and general management.
Monitor and ensure appropriate service documentation into the HIV/AIDS service delivery tools to be utilized by CBOs are achieved routinely.
Ensure that medical record of all patients who are provided services daily are updated into the EMR.
Ensure complete entries into the EMR of HTS and Treatment indicators.
Assist with the generation and sharing with the program staff, clients’ appointments, missed appointments and IIT lists
Participate in monthly Quality, Monitoring & Evaluation meetings to improve documentation and program data quality and reporting including data validation with other CBO technical staff.
Generate and submit weekly and monthly program reports as required to CCFN and CBO leadership.
Perform oversight functions over the DEAs
Manage any special request from the facility or implementing partner (CCFN) as regards patients’ data or reports following the appropriate protocols.
Responsible for PMM tools quantification and requisition.
Participate in data abstractions and data entries during quality improvement activities.
Conduct monthly documentation audit of folders and registers and flag areas that need improvement to the QI backstop.
Ensures review of facility performance indicators by the team.
Responsible for logistic support activities which include prompt supply of PMM and PME forms and registers in the course of project implementation to prevent of stock outs of same.
Participate in relevant trainings, coaching sessions and other forums that increases job knowledge and improves overall quality.
Participates actively in Data Quality Assurance (DQA) activities and other data quality and validation activities to ensure our data meets standards set for quality.
Perform any other duties as deemed fit by the technical supervisors.

Qualification and Experience:

Qualified applicants must have:
Minimum of OND. Bachelor’s Degree or HND preferable.
Completion of NYSC or an exemption certificate.
A Master’s Degree is an added advantage
At least 2 years’ experience in health-related M&E.
Hands on experience in the use of computer (Word processing, Excel, and database programs).
Good communication and reporting skills including proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Purpose of Position

Under the supervision of the Caritas Nigeria State Team the Laboratory technician will primarily work with the designated CBO’s Clinician, ART Nurse and Adherence Focal Persons to ensure all patients due to receive a viral load are identified before due date, notified, scheduled and receive a viral load test. S/he will follow up on VL results received and ensure they are documented in the patient folder. S/he will provide other services like Recency, AHD diagnosis


Criteria for Qualification as a Laboratory Technician

Minimum of Laboratory Technician certificate from MLSCN with current license to practice as a laboratory technician.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and make reasoned judgments in a timely fashion. Committing to a course of action without undue delay or prevarication
Experience of dealing with difficult and sensitive situations in a professional manner.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop an effective relationship through clear communication and building trust with patients in the CBOs.
Identify patients eligible for a viral load (VL) test via a line list of eligible patients generated monthly in collaboration with the M & E and Health Informatics unit as shared by your facility tier manger.
Draw up weekly list of patients for VL test expected at the facility irrespective of appointment dates.
Call out to patients (phone calls) to remind them of a VL test
Ensure list of expected patients is domiciled on clinic days at every point within the CBO to ensure patient is identified, notified and directed to the Lab for sample collection. Alternatively, you can pull their folders a day before and file a blank lab form in them as a 2nd step reminder
Liaison with all POS within the CBO to ensure all clients eligible for VL draw are identified and are linked to the lab.
Ensure that a the VL requisition form completely filled before blood draw.
Ensure that blood is drawn for VL test for all those who present at the laboratory.
Make a list of patients who missed the scheduled appointment to reschedule for the VL draw and share with the VL champion.
Follow up on the patients that will be eligible for repeat VL after EAC and ensure that blood is drawn and shipped to the reference laboratory
Provides weekly and monthly updates and reports of VL activity using prescribed templates for laboratory
Notifies appropriate authorities of VL commodity shortage or stock out.
Ensure that all new patients identified and eligible are offered recency and AHD testing.

Provide effective support in the following regards;

ART NURSING SERVICES

Program Integration
Making sure that patients are triaged at every clinical encounter. All vital signs are taken and documented.
Ensures that patient education happens at every clinical encounter.
Ensure provision and documentation of routine clinical assessment such as clinical TB and STI screenings, nutritional assessment, setting of prevention goals, plotting of pediatric growth chart, etc.
Booked patients’ next appointments and ensure documentation in the appointment diary and registers.
Responsible for completing and regular updates of the ART register.
Carry out nurse refill services to eligible patients in conjunction with the supervising physician.
Visit cluster locations to provide ART services.
Serve as liaison between the health facilities and CBO on clinical related services.
Ensure prompt referral to facilities whenever indicated.
Ensure that all clients on refill get evaluated at each refill visit, document findings in the ART Care Card and the nurse refill registers and reports any abnormality to the physician.
Ensures all clients have access to nutrition education and counselling at each visit.
Follow up on client’s nutritional plan.
Provide technical support for integration of the project’s technical approaches for the achievement of successful project implementation using evidence informed, innovative and best practices.
Participate in any other duties as assigned.

More than eighteen passengers were burnt beyond recognition in a fatal accident involving an 18-seater bus and a Mercedes Tipper along Enguu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu State.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that the fatal accident took place at Ituku, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State at about 8:30pm on Saturday, April 8.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the tipper with registration number AAA 285 XTR, which was loaded with bags of cement had a head-on collision with the bus (registration number NKE 622 XA) which was loaded with passengers.

The tipper was said to have drove against traffic from Enugu City and then hit the bus which was coming from Aba in Abia State, leading to both vehicles bursting into flames with all passengers burnt beyond recognition, except the tipper driver who was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani bemoaned the incident especially in this Easter season, when Christians are commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and consoled with the bereaved families.

CP Ammani ordered full-scale investigation into the incident, including obtaining the identities of the deceased victims and their relatives.

He cautioned motorist against disobeying road traffic rules.

Seventeen passengers were crushed to death in a fatal accident involving an 18-seater bus belonging to Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC).

GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that only one passenger survived the accident which took place last night, January 20, 2023.

The only survivor of the accident, Idorenyin Daniel, said she sat in the front seat with driver but the driver could not make it.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the bus lost control and summersaulted several times.

Most of the victims of the accident had their body parts severed.

The bus was heading to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday, he said his wife saved one of her boyfriends' number as 'Pastor's Wife'. He also shared screenshots of his wife's conversation with her boyfriend, whom Truecaller identified as Godspower Abighe.

A beautiful lady whose wedding was scheduled for 27th of December, 2022 has died in a fatal accident, leaving her husband-to-be heartbroken.

Blessing Ebodo, a nurse from Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, lost her life yesterday in a terrible car accident along Calabar-Ikom Highway in Cross River State.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that two other occupants of the vehicle survived the accident with injuries.

Lamenting his loss, Blessing’s husband-to-be, Bernard Ushie wrote on Facebook:

“Dear Blessing 27th is close and our cloths have arrived from Aba I’m waiting for you to return from Calabar so we can conclude the plans. You know this marriage will be top notch .

“Please do not leave me on this dark place.”

Another of his post read:

“After the lost (sic) of my only sister I found you a perfect match and feels more comfortable being with you.

A yet-to-be-identified man and his girlfriend has been caught on CCTV stealing human hair worth N621,000 from a shop belong to one Janet Odah in Calabar, Cross River State.

The in incident took place on Monday, October 24 at about 10am.

A video obtained by GRASSROOT REPORTERS shows the man who was accompanied by his girlfriend shoplifting about four human hairs and hiding them inside his private part.

While his girlfriend was apparently distracting the salesgirl, the man was seen monitoring the salesgirl's movement and stuffing the stolen items in his underwear.

The shop owner, Janet Odah expressed sadness over the wicked act.

She said:
"These two came to my shop this morning 10am and stole hair worth N621,000.00 from me. This is wickedness. Please help me find them."

Reports reaching GRASSROOT REPORTERS says persons, including elderly women were beaten to death by youths from Ndon Nwong community in Odukpani Local Government, Cross River State.

Sources told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that the victims were accused of being witches and were taken to the village square where they were beaten to death.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, October 13.

One of the victims was identified as a widow, Mrs Asuquo Iya. Her husband was said to have passed on last year.

A relative of one of the victims who spoke with our correspondent, called on security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

The police in Cross River State has arraigned the House of Representatives candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for Obudu/Bekwara/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Mr. Peter Akpanke, and fourth others over the death in May 23, 2022; of a police inspector, Emmanuel Mbang Ubi.

The policeman was shot at Handmaid’s International Nursery and Primary School along the hospital road in Obudu while the PDP House of Reps primary for the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra Federal Constituency was ongoing.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported how some armed thugs stormed the venue of exercise, shot the policeman and disrupted the exercise.

Others charged alongside Mr. Akpanke in suit number FHC/CA/14C/2022 filed at the Federal High Court, Calabar; are: Augustine Agba, Jedy KJ Agba, Eric Bona Ushie and Joseph.

Mr. Akpanke was arraigned for allegedly promoting and facilitating the act of Terrorism.

The charges read:

"That you Joseph Akin 'm', A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter 'm', Augustine Agba 'm', Jeddy Agba Joseph 'm' and Eric Bona Ushie 'm', on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State, Within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did conspire with others at large to commit felony to with: Terrorism, Murder, Attempted murder and unlawful possession of fire arm. And therefore committed an offence punishable under Section 17 (a) of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act 2013.

Count II: That you Joseph Akin 'm', A.k.a Obino, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did carry out an action in furtherance of act of terrorism, when you shot and kill one Inspector Emmanuel Ubi Martins with a locally made Gun. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (c)(a), and punishable under Section 1 (2) (c) (I) of the Terrorism (,Prevention) Act 2011.

Count III: That you Joseph Akin 'm' A.k.a Obino, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to kill, did unlawfully shot one Police constable Ikwen John with locally made Gun. An act which caused him serious bodily harm. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(c) (i) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011.

Count IV: That you Akpanke Peter 'm', on the 23 day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court, did promote and facilitates the Act of Terrorism by providing Guns with live Cartridges and Daggers for one Joseph Akin and others at large to intimidate and kill any security personnel and other members of the public seen at the nomination ceremony of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidates. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(I) (c) (v) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011.

Count V: That you Joseph Akin 'm' A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter 'm', Augustine Agba 'm', Jeddy Agba Joseph 'm' and Eric Bona Ushie 'm', on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Handmaid Catholic Church Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court, did unlawfully have in your possession eleven locally made pistols, eight live cartridges, a dagger and Criminal Charms in preparation to carry out an act of Terrorism against security personnel and other members of the public. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 2(I) (b) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011.

Count VI: That you Joseph Akin 'm' A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter 'm', Augustine Agba 'm', Jeddy Agba Joseph 'm'and Eric Bona Ushie 'm', on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court did unlawfully have in your possession eleven locally made Gun, eight live cartridges without any licence issued to you by the Inspector General of Police or the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 27(1) (a) (I) of the Fire Arm Cap F. 28, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.


All the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A yet-to-be-identified male sex worker who disguises as a woman to carry out his illicit trade has been arrested in Ikeja, Lagos.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS correspondent reports that the man who hails from Okrika in Rivers State was arrested by a soldier who handed him over to the Lagos State Police Command.

The who soldier discovered that he was a man at one of the hook-up joints in Ikeja, accosted him.

He immediately took to his heels when he discovered that his identity has been uncovered.

When interrogated, he admitted that he is a man. He said he needed money to pay for his mother's hospital bill, adding that his mum who is in Port Harcourt had an accident which required an operation.

He said he is based in Lagos and usually plies his trade at night by standing by the roadside, waiting for 'customers'.

He confessed that he started the trade two months ago and that the men usually have sex with him through the anus.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Pastor Emmanuel Gbaruko of Dominion City, Worldbank Street, Owerri, Imo State, wanted over an alleged N183,000,000 theft, GRASSROOT REPORTERS reports.

The Commission also declared one Ikechukwu Modestus Iroekwe wanted for same offence.

According to a statement by the EFCC, Gbaruko, 42, is a native of Umuahia, Abia State.

It added that his last known address is: Eze Akri Street Through Umuezuo Naze Off Poultry/No 5 Bus-Stop, Naze, Owerri, Imo State; while that of Ikechukwu, 43, a native of Umuariam
