Minister Presents Change Begins With Me Campaign to Police Top Ibrahim Idris, Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police. The Minister said the multi-media presentation, at the Police Headquarters in Abuja, was in recognition of the critical role of the police in the success of the campaign, which was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on 8th Sept. 2016 ''This is very important because the police, by virtue of its duties, is a critical stakeholder in this campaign,'' he said, describing 'Change Begins With Me' as a Pan Nigeria Campaign that has no coloration whatsoever - whether it is political, religious or ethnic. ''It is a campaign for all Nigerians, with the sole objective of achieving a paradigm shift in the way we do things. The campaign is based on one principle: Each one of us must be the change we want to see in our society,'' Alhaji Mohammed added. The Minister, who had earlier joined the IGP in decorating some newly-promoted AIGs, urged the critics of the campaign to endeavour to understand it before casting aspersion on it. ''Contrary to the misconception in certain quarters, this campaign was designed to start from the very top, right from the President, the Vice President, Ministers and other top government officials, and then cascade down to all Nigerians. Therefore, those who have said the campaign is aimed at saddling only the ordinary citizens with any burden have been unduly hasty. They should have at least waited for us to roll out the campaign before criticising it,'' the Minister said. He commended the police for their efforts at ensuring the security of lives and property, urging them not to be discouraged by criticism. Umahi releases woman held in prison for stealing N400 cocoa yam A woman held at the Abakaliki Prisons for allegedly stealing cocoa yam worth N400 has been released on the order of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State. Umahi ordered her freedom after being briefed on Friday by the National Human Right Commission on the outcome of its investigation into the extra judicial killings of some inmates of the Abakaliki prisons during the August 18 attempted jail break. A statement on Sunday by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Emma Anya, said the Chairman of the NHRC, Prof. Ben Angwe, had reeled out the pathetic condition of inmates of the prisons, saying some of them had suffered to the extent that no amount of compensation would assuage the sufferings they had passed through. He mentioned some cases, including that of the woman, whom according to him, was in the prison with her two children apparently due to the fact that she had no one to cater for them. Angwe said when the woman was arraigned in court, the judge granted her bail with two sureties who must be civil servants on Grade Level 16. The NHRC boss said, "We saw very pathetic cases. We saw a woman with two children in the prison acussed of stealing cocoa yam worth N400. They granted her bail on stiff condition. They gave her difficult bail condition which required two sureties who are on level 16 in the civil service. 'You can imagine somebody who was acussed of stealing N400 worth of cocoa yam. What access will she have to a grade 16 official of government?" At this point, a visibly displeased Governor Umahi summoned the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Augustine Nwankwaegu, for a tete-a tete and thereafter directed him to ensure that the woman was let go same day. "Holding that woman in prison is an unnecessary punishment. HAG (Honourable Attorney-General), you will have to follow the state Comptroller of Prisons and secure her release today (Friday). Send your people to surety the woman and let her leave the place.Get people on Level 16 to do so." Angwe, while reading the report of the investigative panel also mentioned the case of an old man on awaiting trial for 11 years, saying his case was heart rending. "There is also a case of an old man who has stayed 11 years in that prison without trial . If the man is discharged what amount of compensation will be adequate for someone who is kept without trial for 11 years?," he asked. "In fact, the old man is not the only one awaiting trial, more than 80 percent of the inmates in that prison are awaiting trial," Angwe stated. He described the condition of the Abakaliki prisons as very poor but commended Gov. Umahi for his commitment to the promotion of human rights. The NHRC noted that Umahi was the only governor in Nigeria that had rolled out welfare package for the elderly. Responding, the governor expressed disgust over the dehumanising condition of the inmates and recalled that he had during his visit to the prisons after the botched jail break offered to partner the Federal Government in building a new prison in the state. Expressing surprise that Abuja had not shown any commitment to the offer, he said he was giving the federal authorities seven days to bring a building plan after which the state would go ahead to construct a new prison to alleviate the suffering of the inmates. His words: "The condition which the inmates are subjected to is very dehumanizing; it is so terrible and I had spoken to higher authorities. I said we jointly build a new prison. I was told that, that prison was built in 1913 or thereabout. And even if it was not 1913,it is looking like it was done in 18th century. "So it is not where human beings can stay. Some of those that went mad could have been as a result of the condition of that place. I know that nobody will take a mad person to the prison. The condition of our prisons is enough to make a normal human being to have mental derangement. I am demanding that after seven days, if we don't have a drawing plan, we will go to the land they (prisons) have and start building a new place for our people." Umahi who said he had settled the medical bills of some inmates wounded during the attempted jail break, directed that 15 inmates who the commission said were suffering from mental illness be given medical treatment provided they are not armed robbers, murderers, kidnappers, cult members. He appealed to the NHRC to prevail on the United Nations to assist the state in the re settlement of displaced persons in the communities that had witnessed border crises and intra-communal wars. The places are Ezza/Ezillo in Ishielu LGA, Ochienyim in Ikwo LGA, Igbagu/Iyala in Izzi LGA and those displaced in the Centenary City in Abakaliki. cc; Lalasticlala,mynd44 Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/umahi-releases-woman-held-in-prison-for.html

Fayose: INEC decision on Ondo election is advance rigging, says; democracy in danger The decision taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), recognising someone who did not emerge through any known electoral process as the candidate of the PDP is APC led federal government rigging the election in advance. The APC has decided to rig the Ondo State election even before it is conducted and this is sad commentary for our democratic process that was near perfection before the advent of this APC government. The question to ask INEC is; having accepted the candidate presented by the Malkarfi-led PDP National Caretaker Committee for the Edo State election, relying on the judgment of the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt, despite the Abuja Federal High Court order at that time, what has changed? Obviously, it is either INEC is playing double-standard or has descended into the arena. With the development in Ondo Guber election and the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), it is clear that INEC is a department in APC led federal government. By this development also, I am vindicated that other political parties and stakeholders are now contesting election against INEC. Obviously, INEC at every election adopts new strategy to procure undue victory for the APC and it appears that the agenda to turn Nigeria to a one-party state is daily being ruthlessly pursued by these elements not minding if democracy and our country are destroyed. With the desperation of the APC cabal and its INEC collaborators, Nigeria and Nigerians face hopelessness. I am convinced that the future is bleak if nothing is done to stop this monster. I warned and I am still warning that there is danger ahead in all sectors, especially the economy, health, security, and most importantly, the electoral process. However, I must say that I am not disappointed but it will be and remain on record that I warned Nigerians. Also, Nigerians should be reminded of how the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) tried in 1983 to annexed all States in Nigeria to itself by turning the then Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO) to an arm of the party. Result of the NPN’s rape on our democracy was the collapse of democracy then. The question is; who will save Nigeria from this tyranny and dictatorship? The way these people are going, Nigerians may wake up into the suspension of the National Assembly and the Constitution sooner than later. Even democratic structures in the 36 States might not be spared. It is clear and evident that the judiciary has been badly muscles and harassed to submission. The so called progressives should therefore be courageous enough to rise against this unabated impunity. They should realise that no one will be spared the moment this emerging fascism is left unchallenged. A stitch in time saves nine. cc; Lalasticlala,mynd44 Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/fayose-inec-decision-on-ondo-election.html

As shared by Buhari Madaki...…. 'Senator Ali Wakili (APC) Bauchi South has converted his house at Lere, his domicile village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state into a primary school for the benefit of the children in the community. Wakili was speaking during the graduation ceremony of 37 pupils of ‘Tarbiyatul Islam’ nursery and primary school, Lere, where the lawmaker explained that he dedicated the house near a primary school in order to expand it and provide more classes that would accommodate numerous children. He noted that Tafawa Balewa Local Government has few schools built by the government which informed his decision to hand over his plot and the empty house to the community for conversion into a school with a view to complementing the existing ones and encouraging parents to enroll their wards. The Senator donated the sum of N90, 000 to the school, a sewing machine to the overall best male pupil Mansur Musa, and a grinding machine to his female counterpart Hussaina Munkaila, with a promise to sponsor all the 37 graduands to junior secondary schools. Senator Ali Wakili recalled that he had recently built a special lodge for corps members in the area, and asked the school authority to request for deployment of the youths from the NYSC Secretariat to the school to assist in inculcating knowledge in their pupils. Earlier, Headmaster of the school, Alhaji Yusuf Dandada explained that they started with less than 100 children in both nursery and primary sections whereas the school now has almost 500 pupils which, according to him, was an indication that parents in the village are now interested in sending their children to school' cc; Lalasticlala,mynd44 Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/apc-senator-ali-wakili-converts-his.html?m=1

According to human activist and lawyer Inibehe Effiong, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission(ICPC) Mr. Ekpo Nta has been sacked by President Buhari. He wrote... 'I understand that the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta has been sent on compulsory leave from today which effectively means that he has been sacked. It is reported that President Buhari took the decision following Nta's mishandling of corruption cases against some former governors. This is a commendable effort to straighten the anti-corruption war. Mr Nta never believed in fighting corruption. When former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mustapha Akanbi was the Chairman of the ICPC the organization was more effective than what it has become at the moment. Reports has it that Ekpo Nta was nominated by a former governor from the South South who was notorious for wasteful spending and widely accused of murdering his political opponents and critics during his tenure. The said former governor penetrated and corrupted nearly all the major institutions in Nigeria including the Judiciary, Police, EFCC, etc. President Buhari should appoint a courageous, incorruptible and intelligent person to succeed Mr. Nta. We need a fresh blood to revive the ICPC. We need someone that will be more daring than the Chairman of the EFCC. President Buhari should not make mistake in this particular appointment. The new Chiarman should review all major corruption cases that were investigated by his predecessor and also probe Mr. Ekpo Nta' cc; Lalasticlala,mynd44 Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/president-buhari-sacks-chairman-of-icpc.html
