Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has laid the foundation, as well as presented cheques for the construction of 3 Maternity and Child Health Centre in remote parts of the State.
Laying the foundation
at Awba-Ofemili, Urum and Ugwuagba Obosi, the Governor said that the foundation for the other sites at Umunze, Umuchu, Iseke, Ugwuaniocha, Umudioka, Umueje and
Azigbo would follow.
Governor Obi said the funds for the 10 maternity centres came from the prize money the State
received for coming first in Bill and Melinda Gates award.
Anambra emerged the best State in the South-East in eradication of polio.
Obi also explained that the idea of building
the maternity centres in collaboration with the Church was because the partnership with
them was working.
“We have been
collaborating with the Church to serve our people, and I can tell you the result has been wonderful. We shall keep
it up”, Obi said.
The Governor presented cheques of N30 million each to the collaborating churches.
Shortly after laying the foundation for the project at Urum, Obi also visited the Masdeva Farms, Urum, where he presented cheque of N50 million and a patrol vehicle to the farm, modeled after Songhai farm in Benin Republic.

of Awka, represented by Bishop Ezeokafor, accompanied by the Manager of the
Farm, Rev. Fr. Sabastine Anokwulu thanked the Governor for his wisdom and thoughtfulness.
As part of the laying of the foundation of the Awba-Ofemili maternity centre, the Governor
also flagged-off the construction of the Nnam bridge, costing the State over 500 million naira.
The Governor noted that while bridge at Ebenebe, will cost the State over N1 billion, the 36 kilometre road passing through Amansea, Ebenebe, Ugbene, Ugbenu, and Awba-Ofemili will cost over N10 billion.
In his speech, the Anglican Bishop of Awka, the custodian of the maternity centre at Awba-Ofemili thanked the Governor for giving
all rural communities in the State a sense of belonging and assured him of the continued support of the Church, even as he played that Obi’s successor would
follow his pattern of governance.

AWKA- Anambra State government said yesterday that it would use the money it won from being the best state in the coverage of immunization programme in the South-East to build 10 maternities in the rural parts of the state.

Governor Peter Obi, who made the disclosure during the flag-off of the National Obstetric Fistula Repair Programme at the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Awka, said the state had matched the $US1 million monetary award with N120 million for the project.
The governor also flagged-off the fumigation exercise against mosquitoes in the state, explaining that the exercise was part of the state government’s programme towards elimination of malaria.
He called on the people of the state to corporate with those carrying out the fumigation exercise since it was for their own good.
Obi also flagged-off the construction of a hostel block at the teaching hospital to house medical students.

World’s richest man and famed philanthropist Bill Gates has showered praise on Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State for his commitment to childhood immunisation and the eradication of polio from the state.
“Your commitment to eradicate polio and strengthen routine immunization in Anambra State, your personal leadership and support for these efforts and your engagement with traditional rulers in 2012 has been impressive,” Gates, who is Chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, told Obi in the letter dated March 20, 2013 and personally signed by him.
He hoped that with the kind of leadership being provided by Obi, Nigeria would soon eradicate polio, “thus benefitting Nigeria’s children for generations to come.” The Microsoft founder pledged his foundation’s funding for Anambra’s health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) projects.
Meanwhile, Obi was yesterday conferred with the Best Performing Governor on the Eradication of Polio in the South-East by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at a well attended ceremony at the Women’s Development Centre in the Anambra State capital, Awka. The award goes with a cash prize of N120 million.
Speaking while presenting the award to Gov. Obi, the Minister of State for health, Dr. Mohammad Bate, said the award was not by chance as Gov Obi had distinguished himself in the health sector. The minister cited achievements such as the provision of ambulances to hospitals, accreditation of schools of midwifery and partnership with the Church as some of Obi’s legacies. He noted that the state had remained polio-free in the past five years.
Responding, Gov. Obi thanked the minister for coming to the state to present the award on behalf of Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation. He noted with satisfaction that it was not one of the awards anyone could suspect as having been bought and said that his administration would match the N120m it received with another N180m which would be ploughed into the building of ten more health centres in the state.
Recalling some of his strides in the health sector, the governor cited the state’s first teaching hospital as an example.
“What happened was that the government of the day admitted medical students without a medical school in place and the assessors said they would not accredit the university but I pleaded with them when I came in to give me two or three years to put a teaching hospital in place but they could not believe me as they thought it impossible that a teaching hospital could be built in two, three years. It was one of them that pleaded with them to give me a chance and they did. When they returned at the appointed time they were shocked to see the teaching hospital in place. It has since become the fastest teaching hospital to be built in Nigeria,” Obi stated to the applause of the packed audience.

The quarterly ministerial briefing of the federal government of Nigeria have become a thing of the past since the APC gov. came onboard.
Even the presidential quarterly briefing that was the hallmark of the OBASANJO administration have all become history.

Imagine Tinubu who had always known that the APC platform was there for him,had no list of possible running mate.

But TINUBU who told BUHARI that becoming the president was his lifetime Ambition,failed to appoint a running mate immediately he emerged candidate.He rather depended on allies to shop for him.That is a sign of disaster that will befall Nigeria should he win.

Anybody complaining about the manner the APC rallied some "Bishops" to attend its unveiling of another muslim to pair with Tinubu,a muslim for the Feb. 2023 election,should take solace in the fact that the Cassock does not make the Bishop.
This is equally a blasphemy against the highly revered office of Bishop in christendom. I hope some Nigeria muslim leaders are aware.

The Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike has linked the Borno State Government with the abduction of the over 200 School girls in Cbibok.

Wike said the Governor of the state should be held responsible.

The Minister made the accusation when he received some chiefs from Ogu-Bolo local Government area, the Ogu Divisional council of Chiefs, in Port Harcourt.

He said the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima turned down a request to shelve the examination following a request from the West African Examination Council, WAEC that there was insecurity in the area.

According to him, “WAEC wrote to me to inform me that we have a security problem in that particular school and therefore they wouldn’t want exam to take place in that school.

“I wrote a letter to the Governor to say that this is what we have observed, so please there should no be exam in that school, move them to the city and get an alternative place because of the security reports we have.

“The Governor never reverted to me or wrote to me to say we are doing this or we are doing that. We wrote a letter a month to the time, not that we just wrote it within two days”, Wike said.

The Minister explained that his Ministry started taken cognizance of the security of school Children since the last incident in Federal Government College, Yobe.
He also said the Federal Government could not shutdown the school because it is a state school.

“The school is owned by the Borno State Government. They are aware that they have attacked federal government colleges before in Yobe and Borno states and what we did was to move the students.

“When we even moved the students, people from that area complained that we should re-open the schools and we said we would not re-poen the schools because of security threats”, he further stated.

Wike also assured that the current insecurity in Nigeria would soon fizzle out, adding that it was a temporary challenge.

“People play politics with everything. It’s so unfortunate that this thing happened. We are talking about girls, our daughters. So let me tell you, what is happening is a temporary thing. It is a thing that by the grace if God Mr. President will get through. It is a temporary set-back. He is working very hard”, he said.

In 1999 the nothern military leaders that governed Nigeria Zoned the presidency to southern Nigeria and micro zoned it to South-West when they prevailed on Dr Alex Ekwueme to step down for Obasanjo whom they granted presidential pardon.
In 2008 Obasanjo and PDP zoned the presidency to north- West when he Obasanjo personally picked Umar Musa Yar'adua as PDP choice for candidate and rallied support for him,he eventually emerged winner.
Yar'adua died in office leaving Dr GoodLuck Jonathan to continue in his stead.When he finished their joint ticket,he stood election on his own,PDP again zoned the presidency to South and Microzoned to SOUTH-CENTRAL.
When Jonathan won and finished in 2014 ,he want to go for second time North-West and North-East revolted and said it is their turn,they rejected Jonathan and went for Buhari with the help of other Nigerians Buhari won.
Buhari went for second term both PDP AND APC zoned their ticket to the north,North-East and North-West.No southerner contested as president in major parties.
Buhari,a nothern muslim, will be finishing his second term of eight years come 2023.
Equity demands that both PDP and APC should field a southern christian presidential candidate.But they failed to do so.PDP went for a northern muslim against their own priciple of zoning,hoping to retain presidency in the north after,Buhari another nothern muslim would be finishing his eight years presidency.
APC went for tinubu a southern muslim,and withouth being sensitive to the burning issue of religion in,he chose a muslim running mate.
So far only THE LABOUR PARTY mate all the requirement for a balanced presidential ticket in terms of equity and fairness as it concerns region and religion in the current Nigeria political cycle.
