Thanks, One can get a guide on car prices from www.autotrader.com. It has been helpful. After getting the prices, one becomes interested in buying. Doing business with/in Nigeria is always stressful but as long as we are born Nigerians we have to make do and work towards improvement. Nwoke, thanks for the good job. |

Izuogu's machine(Z600) no doubt is a commendable effort. But that is where the good story ends. The easiest way to enter the auto market/industry in the 21st century is to copy other existing models at least engine wise and other key components. The Hyundai copied Mitsubishi while Daewoo copied Opel. Even the early Toyota copied the GMs of their time. Izuogu's attempt to reinvent the wheel by making every thing from the scratch will not carry him far. Eddy Bongos made commendable efforts in the 80s by building buses, pickups locally using imported inputs. To get Z 600 on the road in the way Izuogu is thinking and going about it will take a miracle. The best way for the a full Nigerian car is to build on the existing Success stories like the 504, 306, 406, Jetta etc. On this models a lot of models can be built. I have attempted making a front wheel drive 504 with improved dashboard , door carpets etc. Most body parts for the 504 are already locally made so you don't have to invest in body parts again. Then you look for a successful engine from an engine maker in China, India, Brazil or Mexico for a beginning. With this approach , a truly locally made car will be built in less time and with less cash. I have a lot of respect for Dr Izuogu, but I am convinced that the launching of the Z600 has more to to with his political ambition than auto industry. |
Check the web site of raw material and development council probably rmrdcnigeria .org or so |
Dangote is for sure a business man. He is not just a Govt contractor. Do you know that he is the 1st individual company to build a massive 90km gas pipeline to power the Obajana cement plant in Kogi State. This gas will also fuel a massive power station that will be fed into the PHCN (NEPA) grid. The cement plant can take 1/2 of Nigerians cement consumption His macaroni plant cost well above 2billion naira. He is also investing in sugar plantation , rice ,steel. This is one guy that has the guts that most money bags don't. Pls dont pull him down. Alot of nigerians are just interested in importing of goods for donkey years without even visiting the plant where such goods are made. Dangote has taken the bull by the horn and is manufacturing a lot of products. He might be termed a monopolist, but business is for fast/ smart people not for slow and shortsighted people. Pls lets encourage the guy |
importation of bicycle is banned. Why not motorised trycycle> I think that is better and safer |
Transcorp is a good thing for Nigeria. The calibre of people working as transcorp directors is world class. Transcorp is already raising money by public placement and will go to the stock exchange by next year. Transcorp has already bought Nicon Noga hotel thru a holding company. They also plan to buy Portharcourt Refinery and Eleme Petrochemicals. Transcorp will focus on key areas of the economy like oil & gas, agriculture, tourism, IT , steel, power .technology. Infact I hope to buy some part of the company thru the stock exchange. Pls learn to read newspapers so that you can find out the good things about Nigeria. Nigeria is for sure marching forward !!!! |
L&G, Stop crying about what is not within your control. In a buoyant & productive economy, everyone has his bit. In ours , there are fewer jobs, so preference has to be made by employers of labour. There are some jobs that HND holders are best suited for( technical jobs. Have you ever heard of HND- medicine or english etc ? Certainly not. Pls let us focus on building our economy and patronising locally made goods, so that the effect of this dichotomy will be less felt. |
We make lots of noise in this country in ignorance. The NUC( national universities commission) clearly states that the cost of running a university per year in Nigeria is roughly 390,000 ie as at 2002 ( when covenant uni came up). So coveneant university is actually running their uni at a loss. Come to think of it , when last was a new federal university opened up in Nigeria last in Nigeria. what of a new government owned primary school, secondary etc in your neighbourhood. It is only private schools. The population is growing at aabout 2-3% per annum and no new edecational instouttions are being established by the government. The fees we pay at the government universities are not necessarily the cost of education. I believe that if your father is a danfo driver , you can still go to school. Your future is only about 20% determined by parentage. You still have a choice. I have seen people without parents overcome and excel. |
