TV/Movies / The Most Expensive Horror Movies Ever Made by obynocj(m): 4:27pm On Oct 24, 2013
Nowadays, every person has their own interest and preferences based on the material they would like to watch on TV, but it’s quite evident that movies have become ta big part of the entertainment industry....
Actually, hundreds of movies including horror movies are produced and released by different production houses annually, but only a few get the much needed public attention. Basically, the main factor that determines the success or failure of a movie is its budget; for instance, a movie with a larger budget will have famous superstars hence adding full perks to its profile. Here are the 10 horror movies that cost the most to produce.
10. The Exorcist: The Beginning (2004): $78 Million
10
Unlike most horror movies in entertainment industry, The Exorcist was planned for years, but it was plagued by a couple of problems including the death of its director, J. Frankenheimer, before production had even begun. However, the project’s estimated budget was about $80 million ($50 million for Harlin’s and $30 million for Schrader’s version). Even though this budget had beaten Harlin’s, it failed to beat the total project’s budget.

9. The Invasion (2007): $80 Million
9
This is one of the most expensive horror movies which was scheduled to be released in 2006 but was postponed to 2007. Upon its released, the Invasion grossed about $6 million within the first one week, but failed to recoup its reported production budget of approximately $80 million after hitting a worldwide gross of $40 million.

8. Shutter Island (2010): $80 Million
8
This is definitely one of the most expensive horror movies ever made, and it was based on D. Lehane’s 2003 novel of the same name. The movie grossed a total of about $294 million ($128 million in its initial domestic release and $166 million internationally), thus beating its budget estimate of about $80 million.

7. The Haunting (1999): $90 Million
7
As a remake of the of the 1963 horror film of the same name, The Haunting (1999) had a budget estimate of about $90 million ($80 million for production and $10 million domestic TV advertising campaign). Fortunately, it covered its $80 million budget, but not the cost of it advertising. Basically, it was not as financially successful as anticipated.

6. Hannibal (2001): $87 Million
6
According to a report published in the Los Angeles Times in 1999, it was speculated that the adaptation of Hannibal could cost about $100 million since actors like Jodie and Hopkins, and director Demme could receive $15 million, $5 million and $19 million respectively. This horror film spent 3 weeks at the number one in the U.S. box office chart grossing a total of about $520 million.

5. Hollow Man (2000): $95 Million
5
In spite of its poor response from critics, the Hollow Man horror film debuted at the top position in its opening weekend with a whopping $26 million. However, it went on to a gross of about $190 million worldwide, surpassing its $95 million production budget.

4. What Lies Beneath (2000): $100 Million
4
Although the production of this horror movie was initially budgeted at $50 million, upon its release on in July 2000, the budget had risen up to $100 million. It grossed just under $30 million within the first one week and continued throughout the summer to over $155 million in the United States and $300 million globally.

3. Prometheus (2012): $130 Million
3
Prometheus entered its production stage in 2010 with extensive design phases that involved the use of the technology that the horror film required. It was shot using 3D cameras in several locations like England, Iceland, Scotland and Spain, and thus inflating its budget to about $130 million. Fortunately, it grossed more than $403 million worldwide, though with mixed response from critics.

2. I Am Legend (2007): $150 Million

I Am Legend is one of the most expensive post-apocalyptic science fiction horror movies based on R. Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name. It is quite fascinating to note that shooting of the scene in which New York’s citizens evacuate the city consumed about $5 million of the budgeted $150 million. The film grossed $256 million in North America and $585 million worldwide.

1. The Wolfman (2010): $170 Million

Based on the 1941 classic werewolf horror film of the same title, The Wolfman grossed $19 million on its opening day and $31 million in its opening weekend, coming in third at the box office in 2010. Unfortunately, it grossed approximately $140 million, barely surpassing its $150 to $170 million budget.

Celebrities / List Of Popular Nollywood Actresses Still Single [PHOTOS] by obynocj(m): 8:45am On Oct 24, 2013
For some actresses in the Nollywood industry, they have remained single despite attaining marriageable ages due to some reasons best known to them. Some of them have remained single mothers, never married before, or divorced their husbands.

Below are some of Nollywood single actresses...

Bimbo Akintola

Bimbo Akintola is an actress that is no doubt very beautiful and sexy. To say the crossover actress will be single at a little over 40 remains a mystery to some of her fans. She seems not to be bothered about not finding a man to call her husband as she recently said in an interview.

She has not be linked to any marriage before now and there are reports now that she will soon get hooked to a man. Bimbo has acted in many movies and she is adored by movie buffs as a good role interpreter, but it seems love has not been fair to her. Some attribute her present single stature to heavy drinking and smoking habit.
photo
Genevieve Nnaji

This is another actress that is very sexy and pretty that has not yet found a man to call her husband. Though her love life has been kept secret from the media and the public, one name that has recently popped up is that of the self acclaimed ‘Koko master’, D’Banj. The Imo State-born screen diva is a single-mother that doesn’t presently have someone to call her husband despite being 34 years old.
photo
Rita Dominic

Another name that must be mentioned in this list is that of Rita Dominic. Apart from Bimbo Akintola, Rita can rightly be said to be the next oldest single screen diva. She is reportedly close to 40 years of age and with the way things are going, she may not end up to be someone’s wife in the nearest future. Rita is seen by many as a wife material, but it is amazing to some of her fans that she is still without a husband. She has been linked with Jim Iyke, Noble Igwe and few others in the past, but none of them has taken her to the altar for marriage.
photo
Bisi Ibidapo Obe

This is another actress that is single, though she has a child, which she recently allegedly had for controversial activist, Dino Melaye, who has reportedly denied the child’s paternity. Bisi Ibidapo Obe is yet to be married and she has not been lucky with men. From the look of things, she is ripe for marriage and has the beauty a man would pray to have in a woman.
photo

Ebube Nwagbo

Pretty and blessed with the necessary curves, Ebube Nwagbo may be described as the definition of beauty, but alas, she is single and not the Mrs of a Mr. The innocent-looking actress, though not with many scandals like some married actresses, was once alleged to have wrecked the young marriage of music artiste, KCee, who she once dated.

The actress is among the eligible single Nollywood stars who have remained single. No doubt, many men are fighting hard to have her hand in marriage, but Ebube seems not to be interested in them, but only interested in concentrating on her jobs and selling her Posh Hair products.
photo
Fathia Balogun

This sexy Yoruba movie star was once married to an actor, Saidi Balogun, and they had two children together as husband and wife, but she is now single. Her marriage crashed like a pack of badly arranged cards few years back and she has remained single since then.

The over 40 years old actress is a sought-after, but her career seems to be her major priority for now. Some are even speculating that she might reconcile with her ex-husband soon based on the retention of ‘Balogun’ in her name. She has remained single for some years now, and many are wondering why she has not yet decided to move on into the arms of another man. Only Fathia knows why she is saying ‘no’ to men who are coming to her, possibly for marriage.
photo
Kate Henshaw

To say Kate Henshaw has not been lucky with relationship may be stating the obvious. Her relationship with a popular gospel artiste in Nigeria ended badly. It was even alleged that she then suffered domestic violence from the hands of the ‘minister’ of the gospel. Her marriage to her ex-British husband ended few years ago. Since then, the tall and dark screen diva has chosen to remain a single mother.
photo
Ayo Adesanya

Ayo Adesanya, like some of her colleagues, used to be married, but she is presently single after her union to Goriola Hassan crashed. Close friends of the actress are not even certain if she will remarry anytime soon. Ayo Adesanya is a woman a man would pray to have as wife. She is pretty and presentable as ‘mama’, but why she is not yet married remains a mystery to some of her fans.
photo
Clarion Chukwura

To put up a list like this and never mention Clarion Chukwura’s name would be like listing the best football clubs in the world without mentioning Real Madrid. In fact, she should have opened the floor of single Nollywood actresses. Clarion is a single mother who is over due to be a man’s wife, but that is not the case at the moment.

She is the mother of popular music video director, Clarence Peters, who she bore for another popular figure, Sir Shina Peters (SSP). Clarion is still single and is probably happy with that. She has been alleged to have warmed the beds of younger lovers. She still has that beauty that could make a man get a hard on.

Politics / Top 10 Most Corrupt Countries In The World by obynocj(m): 11:03am On Oct 23, 2013
No country is immune from corruption. However, there are some nations where corruption is tolerated and even considered a way of life....

The World Economic Forum estimates that on a yearly basis corruption adds up to 10 percent to the cost of doing business globally. This pain is more felt in developing nations, and those just recovering from decades of unrest, where corruption adds up an estimated 25 percent to the cost of procurement contracts.
These are the top 10 most corrupt countries in the world right now, according to the Maplecroft Corruption Risk Index.
10. Venezuela
10
Many would think the discovery of oil in this Latin American country in the earlier part of the twentieth century would have led to its prosperity. Instead it only heightened the struggle by the few political elite in that country to hold on to their power. The latest strongman who tried to perpetuate himself in power, Hugo Chavez, a self-styled socialist “revolutionary”, was thwarted when he tried to pass a law that would have allowed him unlimited opportunities to run for re-election. However, given as it is now one of his cronies in the presidential seat, one can only wonder if the country will move forward.
9. Cambodia
9
Corruption has reportedly pervaded almost all aspects of Cambodian life, from dealing with traffic violations, getting a motorcycle license, obtaining medical treatment and even to get a favorable court decision. Analysts say decades of civil war, political unrest and disorder have helped prop up a patronage system that people turn to when they want things done fast and efficiently. Cambodian society and government itself does not really encourage the public’s participation in the formulation of laws and policies, further deteriorating the situation. There are anti-corruption laws being proposed, it’s just that no one has the interest to enact them.

8. North Korea
File photo shows the Ryugyong Hotel towering over Pyongyang's skyline
Considering that it seems the entire country is meant to serve just one man, there should be little wonder why corruption is so prevalent in North Korea. Bribes to public officials are considered a commonplace, kickbacks in public procurement is part of the system, and embezzlement of public funds happens often. The fact that the government is leaving it to itself to police itself only worsens the situation. Refugees even have to bribe their way to freedom. Those who want to escape the country into China have to pay border guards to look the other way when they are crossing over the border.

7. Guinea
7
The cost of living in this impoverished country is rather high, although it has improved considerably since 2008. However, a recent mining scandal involving a former president and two multinational companies resulted in the loss of billions of pounds. Now the country wants it back. The people of Guinea themselves have called in help from the United States and the United Kingdom to investigate this case after it became too widespread and too big for them to handle.

6. Equatorial Guinea
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
This country in western Africa is actually very rich in natural resources like oil, minerals and natural gas. However only a few are becoming rich off the exploitation of these resources, leaving the poor, who make up most of the population to eke out their way in a country with inadequate sanitation, frequent blackouts and a crumbling education system. It is estimated that while few earn millions from marketing their resources, around 60 percent of Equatorial Guinea’s citizens live on less than $1 a day and have to spend much of it in bribes to make sure they get basic services.

5. Zimbabwe
5
Once a prosperous nation, Zimbabwe has fallen on hard times. So much so the currency is now issued million-figure bills due to hyperinflation. There has been little improvement. The government is still mistrustful of outside aid or interference and the people have to cope with a government that has no check and balance system. Their school system is one of the institutions most hit by corruption, with the few educated citizens demanding exorbitant bribes to take tests and submit papers on behalf of illiterate ones in the hope that they can graduate and be accepted for a job.

4. Sudan
4
Sudan is another country where decades of civil war, religious unrest and political turmoil have given rise to a patronage system people turn to ensure they get what they need. The situation is worsened by a government that barely keeps records of transaction and lacks transparency in general. Nepotism is also common, with high-ranking officials making sure to put relatives in other high positions to ensure their grip on power. Bribes are a must in dealing with the police. Even those who want to establish businesses in the country have to pay the right public officials to get a license.

3. Myanmar
3
Myanmar just had its freest elections after four decades of junta rule, but it still has a long way to go where the provision of basic services are concerned. The country is rich in lumber, oil and gas, however, only the ruling elite was able to enrich itself on these during the decades on junta rule. The system of offering bribes to get basic services is so institutionalized it has a name: “tea money”. Even foreign companies who want to invest in Myanmar are being introduced to the concept of tea money, especially when they negotiate for import/export licenses, land lease agreements and taxation.

2. Somalia
2
Just like Sudan, Somalia is another nation ravaged by war and where people turn to patronage to get what they need. The government sector most plagued by corruption in this country are the Armed Forces, which usually demand bribes from the people to do their job; Immigration which fleeces people leaving and entering the country, Customs which demands bribes for goods coming in and out; and the Telecommunications sector which has the biggest and most lucrative businesses. The government itself does not have anti-corruption laws and seldom keeps track of huge government expenditures. Sudanese officials are also known for their lavish “educational” trips outside the country.

1. Democratic Republic of Congo
1
While the DRC is now considerably stable years of infighting, there is still little progress and development. A sound legal structure is still not in place, the government itself does not publicly discuss how it decides to spend its budget, leaving many people sorely lacking what they really need and having to rely on grease money to make sure they can get it. The sectors that are most involved in corruption include the mining sector, forestry, tax and customs and even the state-run enterprises.

Entertainment / SHOCKING: Prostitute Dies During Intimacy With Customer, Resurrects In Coffin by obynocj(m): 9:12pm On Oct 21, 2013
A prostitute in Bulowayo, Zimbabwe, is bringing new meaning to the term “killer sex” after authorities thought she died during an encounter with a customer....

However, she came back to life just as officials placed her in a metal coffin.
The incident occurred last week at the Manor Hotel and the escort, later identified as MaNdlo, reportedly collapsed and died while having sex with a client.

But when authorities came to collect the body of the prostitute and put it in a steel coffin, she suddenly woke up in a panic screaming, “You want to kill me!” at the officers.

Seeing a woman presumed to be dead spring back to life shocked onlookers, many of whom ran away in fear.
“It was like a movie,” a source said. “People were running away in different directions. It was a scary incident because we were all convinced that she had died because she was just cold. Miracles surely do happen.”

MaNdlo was taken home by another working girl and the unidentified John who allegedly “killed” her reportedly sneaked out of the hotel moments after the cops had left.

Entertainment / World Record Biggest Fish Caught In London Lake [PHOTO] by obynocj(m): 4:22pm On Oct 19, 2013
A British tourist may have just reeled in a world record. While vacationing in Thailand for his birthday, Keith Williams hooked a 134-pound carp, believed to be the biggest ever caught....

“He told his wife that he could feel in his bones that he was going to catch a special fish that day,” Stuart Gillham, owner of the fishing resort in Krabi where Williams was staying, told British newspaper Metro.
The monster fish, which weighs 134 pounds and 7 ounces, reportedly took 25 minutes to reel in.
According to The London Times, the previous record was held by Terry Mather, who caught a 114-pound Siamese carp. The International Game Fish Association will need to confirm the new world record for largest carp.
Not bad for a 56th birthday present.

Nairaland / General / My Husband Use Charm To Have Intercourse With Me - Wife Told Court by obynocj(m): 7:28am On Oct 18, 2013
A house wife, Temitope Arowolo, on Thursday urged an Osogbo Grade III Customary Court to dissolve her 15-year-old marriage to Kareem over an alleged acid bath threat on her life....

Temitope had accused Kareem of beating and maltreating her, claiming that her husband would not provide for her needs. “He beats me often and does not provide for our needs.

He is always making troubles with me and sometimes would not supply us food. “I stopped the business I was doing because of debts he made me to incur. He does not trust me, he thinks I am unfaithful to him,’’ she said. Temitope also said that her husband had once used charms on his private part and attempted to have intercourse with her.

“There was a time he wanted to have intercourse with me, I felt so uneasy with him, only to realise he had used a shear butter like cream on his male organ. “It was then I realised he wanted to charm me by having intercourse with me, apart from the fact that he had threatened many times to bath me with acid.

“He called my mother a witch. I am tired of his incessant troubles, I pray the court to separate us,” she said. Kareem inn his response said: “I leave all to God to judge. I don’t want to say much, all she had said I take it as the truth. “Although, she has not in any way offended me, but if she wants us separated, I am ready to let her go.’’

The President of the court, Chief Nasiru Odelola, said since it was the first hearing of the case, he would give the couple a week to think about their decision. Odelola adjourned the case to Oct. 24, for further hearing or judgment. (NAN)

Celebrities / I Married This Beautiful Woman A Virgin ––holy Mallam by obynocj(m): 10:33am On Oct 13, 2013
Popular Lagos-based comedian, Ajibola Adebayo, alias Holy Mallam, and his beautiful wife, Ijeoma, share the story of their eight-year-old union of love and "honey". It's an interesting read:

Was it after the wedding that you had sex with him for the first time?
Ijeoma: Yes. It was three days after the wedding because I was too scared. But on a Monday, my husband said, ‘we can’t continue like this. I have paid and have done everything’.

Holy Mallam: It was a very big wedding. Over 1000 guests attended and I was too tired on the night of the wedding to do anything. That was a good excuse for her.

How did you meet?
Ijeoma: I had seen him perform before and I was impressed with his style of presentation. The day we met, he hosted a show organised by my friend. When it was time for him to leave, he could not because someone was blocking his car. During the brief period he waited to move his car, we got talking and he gave me his call card. When I got home that night, I decided to call him since he did not have my number. I felt it would be nice to have a comedian as a friend. This was in May 2004. We have been married for eight years.

Holy Mallam: I was in a hurry to leave the venue of the show in order to go and see a lady I was interested in at the time. When Ijeoma called me that night, I was in the lady’s house. After her call and subsequent calls from me, we became friends and I eventually left the lady for her.

How did he propose?
Ijeoma: It was not spectacular, no ceremony. One day we were in the car and he said, ‘if we should get married right now your children would be Yoruba. After a week, he just came and thrust a ring into my hand and I just collected it. Unfortunately it was too big for my fingers and he had to return it to the shop.

Why did you leave that other lady?
Holy Mallam: I was still talking to her, trying to get her to agree for us to date but she was giving me too many conditions. The process was taking too long.

When you met were you involved with another man?
Ijeoma: No. I was not

Were you a virgin at the time he met you?
Holy Mallam: She was.

Are you joking?
Holy Mallam: No. I am serious. I had already told God that I wanted to marry a virgin.

Is he your first lover?
Ijeoma: Yes.

Why? You had gone through school, university and then went for national youth service...
Ijeoma: I just think it is God. I gave my life to Christ when I was in Junior Secondary School. Another thing was that I am a very shy person. I dreaded the thought of going to bed with a man, telling myself that I may not be able to face him in the morning. I had male friends but our relationships did not last more than one month because along the line, the man would want intimacy as a proof of love. Then, our fellowship coordinator always cautioned us to keep ourselves pure. He would tell us that if we disobeyed God, we would get pregnant. Somebody else also told me that if a man married me as a virgin, he would appreciate me so much and give me whatever I wanted.

Did you have to read about how to deflower a lady?
Holy mallam: No.
Ijeoma: I read it up on the internet and was able to guide him.

You are part Hausa and Yoruba, why did you marry an Igbo lady?
Holy Mallam: My mother is from Niger State but she was born and brought up in Lagos and she speaks Yoruba fluently. I love Nigeria and I have always loved Ibo soup. But that was not why I married her. I think our union was destined.

You have three children; did you plan for the number?
Ijeoma: Before we got married, we had decided to have three children but when the second child came and we realised it was a boy, we changed our minds and decided to stop having children.

Holy Mallam: We had an agreement with God that we were going to have three children. Our first was a girl and then, we had a boy. When the boy came, we decided to play smart and stop. Then, my wife was working on her weight. In fact, I spent a lot of money on that and I always took her to Victoria Garden City, where the gym is and I spent over two hundred thousand naira and the results were amazing.

Ijeoma: I got the ideal weight I desired but suddenly found out that I was pregnant again! I cried but we thank God the boy came. He just completes the family.

How do you hang out as a couple away from the kids?
Ijeoma: Before the kids came, we were inseparable. Now, we try to carve out time to be together because my love language is spending quality time together.

Holy Mallam: We were always together, even when she was pregnant with the first child.

As a marriage counsellor, what impact does that have on your marriage?
Ijeoma: It has helped a lot because I was naive of so many things. Being the first child of the family, my position has always been that of a leader and it affected the way I related with my husband. I was manifesting some controlling tendencies unintentionally but God called me to order.

Holy Mallam: We have a monthly programme for couples. I am usually part of her audience and whenever she speaks during those seminars, the familiarity that exists between us as a couple disappears. I pay attention to her as if she was somebody else. I learn a lot during those gatherings and what I learn, I try to practise at home.

What will happen if you discover your husband has cheated on you?
Ijeoma: I don’t know if he would ever cheat because I am free with his phone. One day, when I asked him to tell me what would prevent him from cheating on me, he just said, ‘the fact that I fear God.’ That settled the matter for me. I always tell God to keep him for me and I would be foolish to assume that it can never happen. The devil is out for Christians. He does not go to club houses and he does not drink. He may not meet some of those girls but what about the ones inside the church?

Holy Mallam: There is no superman anywhere. Anything that we want to achieve can only be made possible by the grace of God. I meet a lot of ladies, some even ask me to sign autographs on their breasts. As a Christian, I don’t respond to such gestures. I always carry my wife on my mind. I know that I will always go home to her at the end of the day.

What pet name do you have for each other?
Ijeoma: Honey.
Holy Mallam: The children call me ‘honey’ and call her mummy.

Nairaland / General / LATEST: New Most Expensive Diamond In The World Unveil by obynocj(m): 9:51am On Oct 12, 2013
One of the highlights of Sotheby’s auctions in Hong Kong last September was a white oval diamond weighing 118.28 carats that went on sale for 212 million Hong Kong dollars or $27.3 million....

White Diamond Auction
Including the fees, the egg-shaped stone dubbed the “Magnificent Oval Diamond” would cost 238.68 million Hong Kong dollars or $30.6 million. This breaks the record as being the new most expensive white diamond sold at an auction, estimated earlier for a valued cost of $28-$35 million.
The bidder remains anonymous with the bidding only lasted for more than six minutes.

It was said that the gem was discovered in a deep mine in a southern African country two years ago weighing 299 carats. It was also described by Sotheby’s as “the largest D colour flawless diamond” sold at auction and was given the highest quality rating by the Gemological Institute of America. “D colour” diamonds are dubbed rare and colourless and fetch premium prices.
The highest ever sold diamond auction was a 101.73-carat diamond purchased for $26.7 million last year. While the world’s most paid jewel at an auction was the “fancy intense pink” diamond weighing 24.8 carats sold for $46 million in 2010.
Other pieces that went on sale at the auction were a small white-and-blue porcelain Chinese bowl from the 15th century sold for $141 million; a work by Zhang Daqian sold for $34.84 million; a contemporary ink paintings for $25.4 million; and “The Last Supper,” a 2001 painting by the Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi sold at $23.3 million and is the highest paid work of a contemporary Asian artist in an auction.
Sotheby’s auction sales went to a total of 2.8 billion Hong Kong dollars or $361.1 million, setting a new records and making Hong Kong one of the best and strongest markets for auctions of this kind.
“There is a slowdown happening in Asia’s economies. But at this level of collecting, there is an echelon of buyers who are still very wealthy and looking to add to their collections,” said said Quek Chin Yeow, deputy chairman of Sotheby’s in Asia.
“Hong Kong has in the last few years pulled itself up alongside Geneva and New York as one of the three major selling centers at auction. The sale alone proves that we can actually sell major diamonds here in Hong Kong. It’s a moving trend,” he added.

Crime / Wicked Tenant Abdutcs Landlord's Daughter, Impregnates Her by obynocj(m): 8:12am On Oct 10, 2013
The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Ajibola Idowu, for kidnapping the daughter of his landlord and kept her captive for three years. He was also said to have forcefully impregnated the victim, Modupe Brown, during her captivity.....

After Ajibola impregnated Modupe and she gave birth, he refused to allow her take the child for immunisation so that people will not see her hence she won't escape from him.

As a result, the child was said to have contracted polio disease and subsequently became crippled.

Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, told Punch that Ajibola was arrested along with his mother, Ebun, who allegedly conspired with him to commit the act.

He said, “Brown, a 400L student of Business Administration at the Lagos State University, was kidnapped by Ajibola who kept her in captivity with his family for three years between 2010 and 2013.

“On September 19, 2013, policemen from Area E Command, went to the Sagamu area of Ogun State to rescue the victim and also arrested the mother of the abductor, who watched over the victim. Ajibola was later arrested in the Idumota area of Lagos Island.

“During the three years, Ajibola kept Brown in three locations -Oshogbo, Osun State, where she spent six months; Bariga, Lagos, where she spent six months; and Sagamu, Ogun State, where she spent about two years.

“Ajibola forcefully impregnated Brown while in captivity. She delivered a baby girl, who later became deformed as a result of Ajibola’s refusal to have the baby immunised against the Polio virus.”

While speaking with Punch, Brown described her ordeal in the hands of her abductor as a journey through the valley of the shadow of death. She said she was abducted at her father’s house in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.

She said, “I can’t even remember how he kidnapped me. All I know is that he held me captive for three years. It’s as if I was under a spell. Even when I was going to give birth, he did not allow me to go to a hospital. The baby was delivered at home and he was the one giving me medication.

“Even one day, when state officials came to the area to immunise children, he said he would not allow the child to be immunised, saying the drugs had been poisoned. Once, when I tried to leave, he threatened to kill me.”

During her time in captivity, Brown's parents, who are retired civil servants, searched hospitals, mortuaries, police stations and churches for her all to no avail.

The victim’s father, Idowu Brown, said he had no clue that Ajibola was the abductor. He said, “I never knew it was Ajibola that kidnapped my daughter. He was my tenant for six years and greeted me every day. We even used to share jokes. He was aware that I had been looking for my daughter for three years but he never said anything.

“When we could not find her, I reported the matter at FESTAC Police Division. It was in September this year that we heard from our daughter for the first time. She told us that she was in Sagamu and my wife went there. There we met Ajibola’s mother. That was how we found out that he (tenant) was the one behind the whole thing.”

The suspects however denied abducting the landlord’s daughter. Ajibola’s mother claimed Brown and her son were lovers, who decided to elope, maintaining that the case was not an abduction.

In his defence, Ajibola, who is into satellite dish installation, said the plan to elope was hatched by Brown who paid N200, 000 into his bank account. The money was said to have been meant for her school project.

He said he could not understand why she would make such allegations against him. “I did not kidnap her; we were lovers and decided to elope. Even when she was at my house, she used to make calls to her relatives telling them that she was alright,” he claimed.
