Jakumo: Al Mustapha is a sure-fire guaranteed Boko Haram terror sponsor in the making, and as such he should be annihilated by drone missile, or by sniper projectile, as a matter of great urgency. What evidence do u have ? No one has questioned his intelligence and ability as an excellent soldier its going to be a difficult one but if Ribadu could be saved Almustapha case is on the table |
The leader of the Jihadist group, Boko Haram – Shekau, who presently remains a wanted man by Nigerian among other multi-national security agencies – in a recent recorded message, told the Goodluck Jonathan led administration that it has no part in the said Sheikh Abdulazeez ceasefire committee who had announced ceasefire, supposedly on their behalf. The group disowned the ceasefire – promising to attack more northern States. The leader of the group made his call in Hausa language. The translation of the Hausa Language message was published by Vanguard newspaper. - It reads: “May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you all. This is an important message to all people. “There is this wicked rumour making the rounds that we have dialogued with government of Nigeria which led to a ceasefire on our part. We have also heard how some of our operations and attacks are being credited to criminals. As such the security agents have been killing our armed members in the name of criminals. We have seen how our members who were out on holy mission are being attacked and killed with the label of criminals. “We are telling the world that whoever kills any of our members in the name of being criminals, would surely be avenged unless such person repents now. “We are stating it categorically that we are not in any dialogue or ceasefire agreement with anyone. And we have never asked anybody in the name Abdulazeez to represent me, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of this movement. “I swear by Allah that Abdulazeez or whatever he calls himself did not get any authority from me to represent me in any capacity. I do not know him. And if we per adventure encounter Abulazeez and his group, I swear by Allah we are going to mete them with the grave judgment that Allah has prescribed for their likes in the holy book. “I want the world to know that we have no dialogue with government. I have on several occasions attempted to pass this message across via the Internet and Youtube and we later realised that some agents of government kept removing our messages from the net and preventing its online publication so that our messages will not be heard. They know that If the world hears our position on this fake dialogue, their efforts of deceit would be exposed. “We are also sending this strong message to the people of Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, and any state that whoever kills any of our members should await a grave retaliation from us. God knows that we don’t kill unjustly except those that conspired against us or those that directly fight us, or the government that is waging war upon Allah and His Prophet. We will continue waging war against them until we succeeded in establish an Islamic state in Nigeria. “This message is prepared by me and targeted towards clarifying the issue of ceasefire. We have never had any dialogue with anyone. How would we have had dialogue with the government when our members are being killed and detained in cells, both women and children. Do you call this dialogue? That is not dialogue or truce in Islam. In Islam there are condition prescribed for us to go into dialogue, and there are also situation in which we cannot go in to dialogue. What we are doing now is what is prescribed for us by Allah and his holy prophet. We are workers in the vine yard of Allah. “We are not out to cause destructions, but correct the ills of the society. And Allah is more powerful than all, and He has the might. Allah will surely assist us to victory. This is my message to you. If you have not heard from me all this while, now my message should have reached you all.” Leave A Response |
On 12th of July, 2013, The Court of Appeal in Lagos discharged and acquitted Major Hamza Al-Mustapha from the murder of Kudirat Abiola. The judgment over turns an earlier verdict passed on the Military Officer by a Lagos High Court which sentenced him to death by hanging. The presiding judge accused the lower court of being “stroked to secure a conviction by all means. Therefore , Major Hamza Almustapha was set free. This new judgement opens a plethora of questions, what's next for this military officer? Will the Army re absorb and promote him him? Or will they retire and send him packing ? After serving 14 years behind Bars and missing about 4 promotions in the Army as a result of the trial he had to Face . Bamidele has right to contest 2014 Ekiti gov election - Tinubu •Directs Reps caucus to reverse his removal as chair Written by Jacob Segun Olatunji and Kolawole Daniel - Abuja Thursday, 11 July 2013 04:31 font size Print Email Be the first to comment! THE National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Senator Bola Tinubu on Wednesday condemned the action of the Ekiti State caucus in the House of Representatives over the announced removal of its leader, Honourable Opeyemi Bamidele because of his interest to contest the 2014 governorship election in the state. Consequently, Senator Tinubu directed members of the caucus to reverse itself on the removal of Honourable Bamidele as its chairman, saying that the lawmaker has every right to contest for the 2014 gubernatorial election. The ACN national leader who made his position known through a statement personally issued and made available to Nigerian Tribune, averred that, “ I have said before, any party member has a right to contest the governorship of Ekiti or any other state. Any other person, including Opeyemi Bamidele, has the right to. This right is so fundamental to internal democracy that I do not believe he should be sanctioned at this point where all he has done is make unofficial statements about contesting. Our party cannot join the club of other parties that punish members for expressing interests in an office.” The statement read in part: “It has been reported that members of the Ekiti State Caucus in the House of Representatives suspended Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, as their leader because of his alleged declaration to contest the governorship election next year. I have not seen an official word through the party machinery about this action. However, I feel compelled to speak to dispel rumuor and false report from assuming the aspect of fact. “The news of the purported removal of Opeyemi Bamidele came as a surprise. The decision of the members of the Ekiti House Caucus in this regard truncates ongoing efforts at reconciliation. Notwithstanding the fact that the party leadership is working hard to reconcile all sides. What took some members of the leadership of the party to Ekiti State recently was a continuation of the process of appeal and reconciliation. The objective here is to first understand and iron out the issues that have resorted in a gulf between Opeyemi Bamidele and Governor Kayode Fayemi on one hand and the party towards building a formidable political house in Ekiti. “From my vantage point, I don’t believe the members of the Ekiti caucus could possibly take such a step for such a scant reason. I trust their democratic pedigree to highly believe that they would not be used to take this false step which would violate established party rules, processes and traditions. “For instance, decisions of this critical nature must be done with the consultation of the national leadership of the party. From what I can gather, our National Chairman and the party’s leadership were never consulted or notified about the pendency of such a stark action. For that reason alone, if such an action has been taken, those who did so should retrace their steps to avoid creating an unnecessary difficulty for themselves and the Ekiti chapter of the party. “While Opeyemi Bamidele’s position may not be popular among his colleagues, he has the right to believe as he does. We must protect and smother unpopular and minority positions. If we don’t like it, we vote against it at the appropriate time, but we do not punish people simply for thinking differently, this is how we must grow our democracy. “Thus, Opeyemi Bamidele was expressing his democratic rights. To unilaterally suspend him as leader of the House Caucus is a questionable one they should reconsider. It would appear to contravene the letter and best spirit of party democracy. While we have no problem in him pursuing his democratic ambition without intimidation and persecution, we will continue our efforts at persuading him not to rock the boat and play into the hands of our opponent particularly the PDP shenanigans. Political conflict, challenges and resolutions are the hallmarks of political association and leadership, orderly means of all efforts at democratically resolving those conflicts are not endless in any way. “Accordingly, I urge our five lawmakers; Robinson Ajiboye, Bamidele Faparusi, Bimbo Daramola, Dr. Ifeoluwa Arowosoge, and Oyetunde Ojo to reverse themselves and embrace the process of amicable resolution already put in place by the party and that have been producing good fruit. To do otherwise is to give comfort to those who would seek to divide the Ekiti State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria. We appeal to those promoting these divisions to sheathe their swords in the interest of the party and its ardent followers. We cannot forget so soon the struggle and what it cost us to get to where we are today. We owe it to Ekiti people and all democrats in the country to sustain and protect this hard-won democracy. All true progressives must rise up in defence of individual freedom and promotion of democratic values,” the statement concluded. |
akpomeme: Of course, don't you read the papers where your northern reps and senators says that the pib is not in the interest of the north because they lack knowledge of the full meaning of host communities in the draft bill? Was it not until a senator from the south south pointed out that oil blocks in Nigeria are apparently owned by northerners and that he is moving a motion to review the application of federal character laws in the distribution of our common wealth did northern member allow the bill to pass second reading. Where have you been?Don't derail the thread . The question is was Labaran Maku right on Fashola's performance simple question and tell us why u think he is right or Wrong |
its not a question of Blaming Fashola , he started real well an everyone wanted a spread of the dev and and not the gallivanting he now does leaving most areas in lagos unattended to or at the mercy of thugs in the LCDAs who do nothing but sing Tinubus praise, lagosians and those who work in lagos or have Hq in lagos pay the highest tax in this country and have the right to demand for basic amenities . When has it become a crime to ask for how monies collected from us is utilised ? Fashola will never grant that request and 2 years to go it seems his only accomplishment might actually be environmental sanitation if does not rise to to fix the core areas of lagos which houses the middle.and low income earners becos as it is now his performance for 6 six years in those is almost zero let's stop the hype and face real issues , most contracts in Lagos are secret and closed to public scrutiny ? Why a govt that tag it self progressive behave like those it is criticising let them use Lagos money to dev Lagos and stop funnelling them To political campaigns to wrestle power from the PDP Nigerians are now wiser, they might ask for where the monthly 30billion IGR goes sooner than later |
With an internally generated revenue that surpasses the annual budget of many state Lagos seats on the largest allocation to any tier of government outside the federal govt. The state is also plagued with an overflowing population which tend to stretch facilities as one of the smallest state (in terms of land mass ) lagos also have the luxury of left over federal government infrastructure as the former capital of the country. Some have argued that Gov Babatunde Raji Fashola has done excellently well in the management of lagos and its resources while others are pointing to the fact that despite an internally generated Revenue of Over 30 billion Naira monthly in addition to the monthly allocation from the federation account Fashola has only succeed in making life Easier for the rich at the Expense of the greater population of Lagosians who live outside the posh areas the government have been concentrating her developmental efforts ,they are quick to point at the dilapidated and crumbling BRT scheme ,excessive taxation, lack of transparency in govt transaction, tolling of roads built by taxes collected from them and the sorry state of most inner city roads in lagos . Most lagosians Have boreholes sunked in their houses as most areas lack access to clean drinking water . Identifying an address could also be a nightmare in lagos as the ministry of concerned seemed to have turned a blind eye to the need . Flooding in lagos is an issue that pre dates the Fashola Administration however, despite the efforts of the administration in this regard most parts of Lagos still groan under the effects of massive floods yearly. '' The suffering of Lagosians especially the low and middle income earners has been tied to the Neglect of the Core parts of lagos which houses or accommodate the greater population. The lack of Basic Amenities in those Areas, and the deplorable state of roads linking most communities is a menace that must be tackled by the Fashola administration if he is to bow out on a high. ''Watering flowers and grasses when most of the people who voted for him are busy queuing at boreholes'' as one Man puts it very regrettable. Most analyst argue that the initial steam and that accompanied Fashola's First term seemed to have fizzled out as he seemed to have abandoned lagos choosing rather to concentrate on the Politics of 2015,this decision if true could backfire as Lagos has one the highest voting population in Nigeria.

Tower Of Babel? C’River Clan Where Men, Women Speak In Different Tongues By: Boniface Nzama on July 6, 2013 - 1:19am The biblical Tower of Babel seems to have been replicated in Ubang community of Cross River State where men and women speak in different tongues. The community is located in the northern senatorial district of the state. When LEADERSHIP Weekend first heard of the development, it assumed it was fiction, but, during a visit to the area, it turned out to be real. In fact, the neighbouring communities and residents of the state consider the people of Ubang as unique and an endangered species. LEADERSHIP Weekend discovered Ubang is a community where even a man and his sister of the same parents grow up to speak different languages, but merely understand each other. Natives of the community disclosed that other tribes regard them as “an uncelebrated tourism spot on Planet Earth”. Situated in the south-west region in Obudu local government area, Ubang has over the years fought the state government to recognise it as a tourist attraction. The clan head of the community, Chief Friday Ade, told LEADERSHIP Weekend that their agitation was based on the unique nature of his people, “as no other community in the entire world may have two languages separating the man from the woman”. He said across the world differences exist between man and woman only by their sexes, but in Ubang the dissimilarities have transcended the sexes, as the men have words for communication different from their women’s. Citing some examples, Chief Ade said the men call yam kitong while in the women’s dialect it is called irue. According to him, human leg is okpo or kufue in men’s language while the women call it oba. Other examples are: cup - nko for men and ogbala for women; goat - ibue and obe; head of any mammal - rissi and rishi; dog - kabu and okwakwe respectively. There are, however, some similarities, but different pronunciations, he said. Ade said if showcased on the global tourism map, the language may attract researchers, tourists and foreign investors from various parts of the world to the state, as many people may like to visit the area to see the wonders and beauty of nature. Other traditional rulers, including Chief Jonah Iyang, also spoke on the issue. The monarchs said they were convinced that the language will attract foreign investment not only to the state, but to the entire Nigeria as foreigners and researchers would visit the country and spend hard currencies on businesses and leisure. Asked why the men speak a different dialect from women, Chief Ade said the mystery was beyond human explanation, declaring that it was a natural trait whose origin their forefathers were unable to unravel. “Only nature can explain, because no human being can give concise reason for such a mystery. The beauty of it is that the man and the woman understand each other without an interpreter,” Chief Ade said He said it was only believed that the language originated from the building of the Tower of Babel in the Bible -- in the book of Genesis chapter 11 when mankind attempted to erect a tower that would reach heaven for them to see God and his throne. After God had caused confusion among the builders who allegedly represented all nations of the world by creating many languages which saw them speaking differently, he said, the Ubang people were apparently the most disobedient group that wanted to continue with the building project, hence God decided to unleash further confusion between them by giving the man and woman two separate languages. Convinced that the uncommon language was an act of God, he said that in one of the Ubang mountains called Okwe Asirikwe, there was a gigantic rock bearing a supernatural footprint, which no one has been able to unravel the source. He said no human being, living or dead, has the size of the footprint, which makes residents believe that it was the footprint of God. On the language, he said it was amazing that the male child in the area from birth would naturally grow up and adopt the men’s language; the same for the female child without any form of orientation. Another royal father, Chief Olivet Ibang, said the confusion might have occurred when God created the world and was sharing languages to each community. After assigning a particular language to each geographical entity, he said it was apparent that two languages were left over, and He decided to give the Ubang people two languages Despite the dissimilarities, he said, both sexes understand each other with ease and co-exist peacefully and intermarry among the three ancestral villages. The three ancestral villages were said to include Okiro, Ofambe and Okweriseng. They practise rotational clan-headship. The royal fathers of the agrarian community lamented that Ubang has been neglected by successive governments in the state “as we have no access road, drinkable water, health facilities, electricity and good schools for our wards, despite that we are an endangered species

Pope Francis has cleared John Paul II for sainthood, approving a second miracle attributed to his intercession, the Vatican says. John Paul was extremely popular during much of his 27-year-papacy. He died in 2005 at age 84. The canonisation ceremony is expected to take place before the end of the year, possibly in December. Two miracles are required for sainthood. The first miracle to be approved by the Vatican came just six months after John Paul’s death, when French nun Sister Marie Simon-Pierre inexplicably recovered from Parkinson's disease after praying for the late pontiff’s "intercession". Pope Francis approved the second miracle attributed to John Paul There have been suggestions that Sister Marie did not actually have Parkinson's. The Vatican spokesman said the second miracle concerned a Costa Rican woman. The Spanish Catholic newspaper La Razon said she suffered from a brain aneurysm that was inexplicably cured on May 1, 2011 - the day of John Paul's beatification. La Razon reported that the woman had been given only a month to live after doctors found she had the aneurysm. But her family said that after they prayed to John Paul, the aneurysm disappeared. The newspaper quoted her doctor, Dr Alejandro Vargas, as saying: "I can't explain it based on science." For a healing to be officially certified as a miracle, the occurrence must be permanent, instantaneous and have no scientific explanation. The Vatican put John Paul on a fast-track to sainthood just weeks after his death on April 2, 2005, dispensing with the traditional five-year waiting period. Calls for the beloved pontiff to become a saint erupted at his funeral, where many mourners shouted "Santo Subito!" ("Sainthood Now!" .But some Vatican observers have voiced concerns that the process has been too quick. The last years of John Paul’s papacy have been marred by a clerical sex abuse scandal, and critics said he failed to address other problems such as dysfunctional governance at the Vatican. As one of the longest-serving popes, the Polish- born John Paul travelled far and wide, often greeted by massive crowds as he championed peace, denounced human rights abuses and deplored the decadence of the modern world. He eschewed the pomp that surrounded his predecessors to seek contact with ordinary people, and is credited by many with helping to topple Communism in Eastern Europe. In 1981, he survived an assassination attempt in St Peter's Square. But he also alienated many Catholics with staunchly conservative views on social matters. Pope Francis also decided to make the late pontiff John XXIII a saint even though the Vatican has not confirmed a second miracle attributed to his intercession. The Vatican said Francis had the power to "dispense" with the normal saint-making procedures to canonise him on his own merit, without a miracle. John XXIII, who led the Roman Catholic Church between 1958 and 1963, was dubbed the "good pope" and enacted sweeping reforms to modernise the Vatican. |

by Oche Joseph Otorkpa Sector by sector analysis of president Good luck Jonathan's Administration Aviation 95 per cent: (Rehabilitation and modernisation of terminals ,New international and cargo Airports, improved services ,waivers and reduction in the operations of touts) Rail Transport 80 per cent (Rehabilitation of rail lines, resumption of the Lagos – Kano service after 15 years , new coaches and improved services at upgraded of stations etc). Water Transport 65 per cent (completion and commissioning of some inland ports, completion of the dredging of the river Niger, progress has been Slow in these sector). Roads 65 per cent (Improved road network, less potholes on highways, second Niger bridge , SURE P intervention on East West Road, Benin-Ore etc, but Lagos- Ibadan continues to be an eyesore in the drive for motorable roads ) Agriculture 80 per cent (rice, and cassava revolution, increased dry season farming, introduction of a more transparent fertiliser distribution scheme, and the intervention of BOI In critical areas ) Power 39% (adjusted to 20 %) Although good progress has been me made in the privatisation of GENCOS and DISCOS, low harvest of generated power, persistent outages ,load shedding, failure to meet prepaid meter targets, outrageous bills, nonchalant attitude of PHCN to customer needs , un-maintained and overloaded transformers, have continued to plague Nigerians). Security 50 per cent (The declaration of the State Of emergency is commendable,so also is the lunching of the code of conduct for the police as well as the rehabilitation of police Academy. However, most police officers still live in temporary shelters attached to barracks while kidnapping for ransom and other forms violent crimes is on the rise). Foreign Investment 80 per cent (His administration takes credit for Nigeria’s emergence as the top investment destination in Africa despite security challenges, however the monitoring of illegal external out-flows needs Improvement). Ports operations 50 per cent (48 hours cargo clearance target is still a dream ,Corrupt customs officers continue to harass innocent road users on transit. Nevertheless, progress has been made in reforming the ports and streamlining operations with the reduction of government agencies to Healthcare 75 per cent (Less labour acrimony in the sector, improved service delivery especially in Maternal and Child Health, COMESS, CONTIS, strengthening of NHIS among others). Labour 75 per cent (Improved minimum wage , pensions payments, centralised payroll systems among others however, the shabby recruitment schemes by government Agencies, job buying still and slow service delivery is still a challenge). Petroleum sector 60 per cent (Increasing the refining capacity to 10.2 million litres daily, stability in petrol price and supply, cleansing of the subsidy scheme and increased private sector investment in this sector is a welcome development, but oil bunkering with it’s attendant environmental challenges is still a source of worry). Economic growth and stability 70 per cent ( The growth in the economy placing Nigeria as one of the fastest growing Economy in the world with Over $50 billion in External reserves, (Real) strong bank courtesy of CBN reforms, is a step in the right direction. However the living standard of Nigerians is yet to improve significantly). Corruption 49% (adjusted 35%) Here again improvement is greatly needed, there have been less high profile convictions from 2011 to date, the state pardon of ”Alams” dampened the spirit of the anti corruption crusade despite various successes recorded by both the EFCC and ICPC in the two years under review). Education 85 per cent (The establishment of Federal universities in all states without one , the introduction of the Almajiri school system, the almost seamless flow and stability in universities ,Graduate and PG scholarship Schemes, unity schools rehabilitation among others set the administration apart ,however mass failure in WAEC and NECO remains a headache). Press Freedom 95 per cent (Excellent working climate even though abused by some remains the hallmark of his Administration despite little frictions here and there). Electoral reforms 91 per cent (Great improvement in the electoral processes, as compared to previous governments, the SIEC ‘s needs to take a cue). Housing 50 (adjusted 25%)High cost of mortgage still persists, FMBN and other agencies need to speed up constructions in states where housing projects are on going, progress in this sector has been slow and not steady). International Relations 70 per cent ( Interventions in UN, AU, ECOWAS backed missions as well insistence on the proper treatment of Nigerians by other countries especially South Africa including the recent release of Nigerians jailed in Equatorial Guinea painted the administration in good light, yet the crisis and activities in some embassies and foreign missions abroad dampened the efforts to give Nigeria a new name. Political climate .80% unlike what Nigerians are used to, the drive to hunt political opponents and stifle any known or unknown opposition seems to be disappearing as Nigeria's political landscape emerge from the Era of do or die politics to a civilised emerging Democracy . Despite the excesses of some opposition, and ruling party politicians the administrations has remained calm stabilising the system in the process Overall the administration has recorded some highs and some lows nevertheless for the country to achieve any meaningful development we must rise above sectarian divisions, promote objectivity and patriotism and in the end Nigeria will be a better place for us and our children.
