lagbaja20, more tribal chest beating?  undecided Save that for the birds. The question is, what have you done to add to the "greatness" of the Yoruba "race?"

Friend, what are you smoking. Surely you have heard of Timbuktu and Songhai. You know there is a reason Zimbabwe means "House of Stone" right? Please put down the crack pipe.

I don't think he has heard of the Ghana Empire, Mali Empire, Songhai Empire, Sokoto Caliphate, Kanem-Bornu Kingdom, Great Zimbabwe or Axum.

Yoruba and Igbo can form 1 nation and @ the same time can stay in separate nations and survive on their own so no one is begging anyone to be with anyone. I'm proudly Biafran

Dez, my proud Biafran brother. So you have no problem with a Confederation? I think Odua has a lot to offer and so does Biafra. Africa needs to be interconnected. I have yet to see Igbos killing Yorubas just because they are Yoruba and vice versa.

I would not support a battle against Cameroun. It's just not worth it. But if we did fight them, we would rout them.

Cote D'ivoire?? grin grin Is that a joke? You seem to have forgotten that Nigeria is ECOMOG and ECOMOG is Nigeria. Go and ask Liberians and Sierra Leoneans about Nigerian troops. Do you know Nigeria can wipe out the Ivory Coast Army in less than one week? She probably won't because she'll as usual exercise restraint like she did in those two countries, to avoid mass civilian casualties. Minus that, Ivory Coast can be turned into a parking lot in under a week by the Nigerian military. cool

Let us see if that is true my brother. grin My problem is why did Nigeria give up without a fight over the Bakassi peninsula. How come the Nigerian military is having a hard time with the militants in the Niger Delta. I know that the militants know the creeks better than anyone, but the Nigerian military still cannot finish them off. And lets see if Nigeria can handle the Ivory Coast. The Ivory Coast is far different from Sierra Leone and Liberia. Remember that this country used to be the shining beacon of West Africa with its robust economy. Their weapons are just as advanced as Nigeria's weapons.

They certainly weren't brothers though - just me pulling some peoples' legs. And your part of Igboland is? Thought we all had a common ancestor which is Eri.

Eastern Igboland. Nri's influence only reached the Igbo clans found in modern day Anambra, Delta and parts of Enugu. I do not believe Nri's influence extended into Imo, Abia or Ebonyi. I remember asking my elders in my village if they heard of Nri or Eri, and they were confused. My village was founded by the Ngwa clan.

Let us agree to disagree my brother. I normally agree with you on many issues, but on this issue, I cannot. The Nigerian military has not shown me that they are capable of leading a war against another nation. Let them fight Cameroon for Bakassi. I actually wanted to see that. Let us see how they will act, if they get involved in Cote D'ivoire. The president of Cote D'ivoire already said any invasion force will be met in a battle.

My friend, who cares what the white man sees? Do you think the white man would smile if there's a progressive, unified Nigeria?

Your idea is okay on its own, but for there to be unity between those two groups, we [both Igbos and Yorubas] must unify amongst themselves.

As for character, you remind me of Ezeuche whenever he takes his medication. I expect you to soon change tho smiley

You must have misinterpreted me. Simply stating that even to a Black American, all Nigerians look the same to them. They can't tell who is Igbo or who is Hausa.

And I agree, our groups must unite amongst ourselves as well. Igboland is not united. Our politicians fight amongst themselves, clans fight each other, and even people within villages and clans are fighting for power. I lost a family member a couple of years ago over a chieftancy dispute.

I don't understand why you are expecting to see a change. I have remained consistent. Even when tribal chieftains have tried to get me riled up.

Ochi, I think the Nigerian military is far more advanced than you give it credit for, and boasts top notch personnel than can trouble any military on the continent. There's been a lot of investment in equipment and training in the last few years. Most of those countries you mentioned wouldn't last a couple of months in out and out combat with Nigerian forces.

I doubt it. Nigeria's military is not well trained. You can just see how they deal with Nigerian citizens. They would not be able to handle a battle tested army like Ethiopia who fights daily with Somali rebels in the Ogaden region and Eritrean skirmishes. I think you are giving the Nigerian military too much credit. Just because they have the weapons, does not mean they have the personnel who can use it correctly. Before the civil war, I could say that the Nigerian military had some of the brightest military minds that ever walked on the African continent.

And about the "bomb" i guess nuclear, and if so , no they dont

Actually South Africa did had nuclear weapons, but that is during the Apartheid regime. I am pretty sure the people who were involved in that program are still living. However, the program was quickly dismantled as apartheid ended, because the West feared a nuclear armed black nation.

They are just blowing off hot air. I see no problem with a united Southern Federation. I do not even see a problem with different ethnic groups mixing. We are all black. Can the white man tell the difference amongst us?   And I have a hard time understanding why people make blanket statements about an entire ethnicity. People need to stop looking through tribal lens, and look at the content of each person's character.

Eh, if it comes down to rigging, both sides can play that game grin After all, the ACN/CPC base seems to form a huge amount of the official population of the country, and votes can be manipulated to be overwhelming there too.

This is part of the reason why I'm glad Tinubu is the head of the ACN.

And as you allude to, if GEJ  uses rigging to cheat an ACN/CPC ticket (representing the SW and North, respectively) out of victory, not only will he invite civil unrest, but I think he also increases the chance of a military coup.

So I'm not sure that rigging is going to be as effective in this election as in past ones.

I welcome ACN to try to gain the presidency. That would definitely cause alarm in the East. Then we shall play the politics of the 1st Republic. Regional parties shall rise again. This is something that I hope for, because PDP is terrible. I doubt a coup will occur though my brother. The reason why I say this is due to the fact, that it didn't happen during the Yar'Adua fiasco. The U.S. will not allow another coup to occur, cause that could cause disruption with the oil flow. You do know that if GEJ doesn't get the presidency, militancy in the Niger Delta shall rise again to epic proportions. The Ijaw want GEJ as president. Ignore them at your own peril.

That is cute. I don't come to Nairaland for people to agree with me. I come to Nairaland to argue and debate. That is the only reason why I come to Nairaland. So why would I expect people to agree with me? I think you are just grasping at straws and pulling everything out of your arse.

@Ochi-Agha:lol.U'll have to figure out another way (say, Male Prost*itution) to pay your rent this month because it seems like you just lost all your money. I told you earlier, I got nothing against you: I just hate tribalism and people that are too fo*olish to know that they are fo*olish. Most people come on here advocating their tribe's superiority (you included) in every little matter, even when such shouldn't be the case. I don't like beefing with jack: I told you earlier I don't remember you once I log off, so u can rest your pretty little heart. I thought you said you were part African-American: where is this vile tribalism I sense in you coming from?! As for me I owe nobody shixxt, so I'll just state the truth as I see it without fear or favor. Well, To each his own though. If it makes you guys sleep well at nite, then your tribes are Not only the greatest, but also the BESTEST! LMAO!

I think you confuse ethnic pride with tribalism. Tribalism occurs when you bash another tribe to make your own tribe seem better. I have yet to do that. Because I do not think any tribe is better than the other. I am a Pan-Africanist for goodness sake who has a lot of respect for all the ethnic groups that make up Africa. That is why I find it weird that you can sense tribalism form my post, since I have yet to bash someone due to their tribe. Do I want my reigon improved? Yes. Do I want my people to be great? Yes. But I wish that for all of Africa. From Somalia all the way down to Malawi. My friends make up all the ethnic groups that make up Africa. So why would I be a tribalist? My black American roots prevent me from being a tribalist, because I made up of different "tribes."

I think you saw where everyone said "without rigging" yet you chose not to see it

I must have glossed over that my friend. grin However, PDP is going to win the presidency, but at the local level, they are going to receive a big thrashing. APGA has a good possibility of sweeping the SE except for Enugu, because Sullivan Chime is actually a good governor. Hopefully, his battle with Nwodo, makes him move to APGA where he can fully grow in his political career.

Politics / PDP Is In Trouble In Abia State by OchiAgha2(m): 2:45am On Dec 29, 2010
I have just received word from some of my politically connected relatives in Abia State are saying that T.A. Orji and the PDP party of Abia State will have a rough time getting reelected. APGA is gaining support and the candidate who will probably be on the APGA ticket (a relative of mine), is very popular in Abia State. In addition, T.A. Orji has replaced L.G.A. chairman with his own goons. So Abia might be in for a wild ride.
Politics / Re: Acn Dumps Ribadu! by OchiAgha2(m): 2:40am On Dec 29, 2010
You people are foolish if you think PDP is going to lose. They are going to rig their way to the presidency. That is why I am laughing. ACN has no contest. But if their are riots in the streets, I would support that. This could be the breaking point we are looking for.

Politics / Re: Acn Dumps Ribadu! by OchiAgha2(m): 10:36pm On Dec 28, 2010
You all are getting happy for no reason. Buhari/Tinubu ticket would scare anyone into going with GEJ. So far, GEJ is doing a good job for Eastern Nigeria. He will most likely win the East. No one is worried about the South-West, because everyone knows that the Yoruba will vote for ACN. The North will most likely go with PDP as well.

Exactly! They actually need to merge with CPC and APGA to be seen as a national party.
We did this dance with Ribadu before, when some of us foresaw that he was rushing off to nowhere in a hurry. Now we're singing "Buhari."
I laugh in sharia!

Agreed. But do you actually see ACN merging with other parties outside of the South-West? undecided
Politics / Re: Acn Dumps Ribadu! by OchiAgha2(m): 10:07pm On Dec 28, 2010
dayokanu:

Thats the main question Tinubu would never be Vice to Buhari.

He would rather be a kingmaker than vie for Political post. 2) Tinubu is a Moslem just like Buhari and a Moslem-Moslem icket wont work.

Any xtian young ACN member from the SW would do the trick

Sorry but many people view the ACN as a tribal/regional party. I don't see ACN winning outside of the South-West. PDP will rig its way to the top in the North. This election will be won in the East. The South-East is the actual king-maker. The only way ACN could possibly win is if they pick a young ACN who is Igbo. Now that would be a game changer. Sadly, ACN does not see beyond the SW.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by OchiAgha2(m): 9:37pm On Dec 28, 2010
Only two countries military worth mentioning in the whole of Africa is Egypt and South Africa. Both countries have modern armies. And people tend to forget that South Africa used to have the bomb. I am pretty sure they haven't lost that capability yet.

Nigeria does not really have an advanced military.

The most battle hardened militaries in Africa I would say are Ethiopia, Eritrea, Morocco, Mali, Uganda, Rwanda and maybe Angola/Mozambique.

Many Northerners know that Buhari is the presidential candidate and he is the number 1 on the ticket.

So why wont a Northerner vote when one of their own is Number 1 on the ticket.

Which SE/SS candidate can deliver his state for the Alliance

Who will be the Yoruba candidate then? If it is Bola Tinubu, then Buhari will seal his fate.

The best SE candidate is the current governor of Enugu State. Sullivan Chime is doing good things for his state and he can win in all South-East states.
