Lagos - Elected members of the Lagos State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set to clash with the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu over who succeeds Adeyemi Ikuforiji as Speaker of the House, reports Vanguard. The lawmakers have rejected Tinubu’s anointed candidate for the post, Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni. Tinubu’s attempts to force the other candidates to step down for Sanni have been rebuffed. The candidates have insisted that they are going ahead with their aspirations. The other contenders for the speakership race are Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, Mudasiru Obasa, Lanre Osun, Rotimi Abiru and Lanre Ogunyemi. Tinubu is also facing resistance from Ikuforiji, who prefers to give the position to his stooge and ally, Abiru, in order to fully cover his tracks after leaving office. source: www.news24.com.ng/Elections/News/Lagos-lawmakers-fight-Tinubu-over-Speakership-20150522 |

when I read Ur comments , all I Do is laugh, buhari can do nothing, he cant even arrest or jail any PDP member unless he jails apc corrupt leaders too. But still he can't cause of tribalism in Nigeria. those saying he would arrest PDP members, to my view he can't. why?because he have to arrest Tinubu for stealing Lagos money,he have to arrest ameachi for using rivers money for Buhari's campaign, he have to arrest okorocha for using IMO state money for his second term bid and reelection campaign without paying lecturers their salary which made the university went for indefinite strike, and so many APC members because if he doesn't do this and go ahead arresting PDP members sorry to say Nigeria would be a divided entity. , Those saying he can jail PGEJ please relax and think well coz he can't even think of doing that, here are my reasons. 1. Immunity covers PGEJ 2. So much Tribalism in Nigeria 3. He have to arrest Pass presidents who also looted alot of money like IBB, IBJ etc |

London - Two Libyan soldiers who were in Britain on a training course were sentenced to 12 years in jail on Friday after being found guilty of raping a drunken man after a night out. A jury in Cambridge in eastern England found Moktar Ali Saad Mahmoud, 33, and Ibrahim Abugtila, 23, guilty of rape, and aiding and abetting each other in raping the man in October last year. Callous crime The court was told that the pair had acted like "hunting dogs" in tracking down their victim, aged in his twenties. "This was a truly horrendous crime and I hope the result will allow the victim some closure and to begin rebuilding his life," police inspector Alan Page said outside court. "These men deliberately targeted their victim because of his vulnerability that night, which they took advantage of to commit this callous crime." Also Read: Woman, 38, loses pregnancy to alleged rape by pastor Prosecutor John Farmer said the guilty men had "picked off" their victim like a "wounded animal." The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police that he had been raped by "three Arab guys." "They were horrendous, they weren't human," he added. Sexual assaults Jenny Hopkins, a regional chief prosecutor, urged male victims of rape to come forward in light of Friday's decision. "I hope today's verdict might offer some victims the confidence they need to come forward," she said. Three other Libyan cadets were jailed on Wednesday for separate sexual assaults in Cambridge on the same night, but reporting restrictions were in place until the conclusion of the other trial. source: m.news24.com/nigeria/World/News/UK-jails-two-Libyan-soldiers-who-raped-man-20150516-3 |
Boko Haram Islamists have recaptured the strategic town of Marte in northeastern Nigeria’s restive Borno state, a regional official said early on Saturday. “It is sad as we have been made to understand that Marte has today completely fallen under the control of the insurgents, which to us is a very huge setback,” said Mustapha Zannah, vice governor of the Borno state. The town, located along a strategic trading route between Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon and Chad, has traded hands between the jihadists and government troops numerous times since 2013. A regional military coalition of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon has claimed a series of major victories against Boko Haram since launching sweeping offensives against the jihadists in February. Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency has claimed some 15,000 lives and displaced about 1.5 million people.

At least 55 people were killed in two Boko Haram raids this week near Maiduguri, capital of restive northeastern Nigeria Borno state, a vigilante and two residents said on Friday. “Boko Haram fighters raided Bale and Kayamla villages where they killed at least 55 people and burnt several homes after looting them before proceeding to the outskirts of Maiduguri where they were crushed by troops,” a vigilante official, Abacha Zinnari, said. “They killed 30 people in Kayamla and another 25 in Bale,” he said. A resident of Bale, Husseini Ari, said the village on Thursday buried 25 people killed in the previous day’s raid while several others who were injured were taken to hospital. “The village is mourning the death of 25 people killed in the Boko Haram attack who were buried yesterday,” Ari said. A group of heavily armed Boko Haram fighters late Wednesday launched an offensive on Maiduguri city which was repelled by troops from a military base on the outskirts of the city, according to the military and residents. The insurgents had raided the villages before the foiled assault on the city but the story was slow to emerge following a round-the-clock curfew imposed on the city by the military on Thursday which restricted movement. “The gunmen burnt around 50 houses and looted food stores and livestock,” said Ari, adding that the insurgents targeted homes they identified as belonging to vigilantes in the village Musa Kumbo, a resident of Kayamla, said at least 30 people were killed in the Boko Haram raid on the village and surrounding settlements. “The attackers were heard shouting they would come back and finish their operation once they were done with Maiduguri,” Kumbo said. At least three soldiers, six vigilantes and dozens of Boko Haram insurgents were killed during clashes in Maiduguri on Wednesday evening, sources have said. The assault was the first on Maiduguri for three months and came after sweeping offensives against Boko Haram strongholds by a regional military coalition of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. source : www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/05/at-least-55-killed-in-boko-haram-raids-on-two-nigerian-villages/

FORMER Head of State and Convener of Nigeria Prays, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd) yesterday, said the uncommon action of President Goodluck Jonathan in conceding victory in the last general election shows that the country has a future. Also, ahead of the May 29 handover date, former President Olusegun Obasanjo is offering a helping hand to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on how to tackle the multifaceted problems bedeviling the country. Professor Akin Mabogunje, who is the Chairman of the Governing Board, Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Liberary submitted a strategy report to the president-elect at his office in Abuja. The report specifically proffers solutions to the problems afflicting the country in the Education, Security, Economy, Power and Infrastructure sectors. Gowon who spoke at the Diamond Jubilee of Four Square Gospel Church in Lagos an event attended by dignitaries, including the Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse 11 said Jonathan’s congratulatory telephone call to his opponent, Muhammadu Buhari brought a sense of relief, not just to Nigeria and Africa but the whole world. He said by that singular act, Jonathan told the world a bright future lies ahead for Nigeria, even as he called on leaders, past or present to be mindful of their actions and utterances so as not to create tension that could put the peace and future of the nation in jeopardy. Mobogunje told reporters after leading a team of experts to meet with Buhari behind closed doors the incoming administration will find the strategy report useful when administering the country. Shedding light on their mission, Mabogunje said: “We have been working on a number of critical issues for the development of this country and they have now sent a delegation of those who’ve been involved with the preparation of those policy documents to talk to the president-elect and get him to appreciate what is being done to help his administration. |
Port Harcourt - The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the arrest and prosecution of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, reports PM News. Metuh’s offence according to the APC is for inciting members and supporters of PDP to violence. The APC in a statement on Thursday accused Metuh of urging PDP members across the country to take the laws into their hands if necessary to defend the PDP’s mandate in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta states. The party noted that Metuh should be invited for questioning by relevant security agencies and prosecuted for his vitriolic utterances. |

brainless stupid animal.. Islam is a religion of war. here r my reasons 1 18,000 deadly terror attacks committed explicitly in the name of Islam in just the last ten years. (Other religions combined for perhaps a dozen or so). #2 Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or for criticizing his religion. This included women. Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad. #3 Muhammad said in many places that he has been "ordered by Allah to fight men until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger." In the last nine years of his life, he ordered no less than 65 military campaigns to do exactly that. Muhammad inspired his men to war with the basest of motives, using captured loot , sex and a gluttonous paradise as incentives. He beheaded captives , enslaved children and raped women captured in battle. Again, Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad. #4 After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him and knew his religion best immediately fell into war with each other. Fatima, Muhammad's favorite daughter, survived the early years among the unbelievers at Mecca safe and sound, yet died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims only six months after her father died. She even miscarried Muhammad's grandchild after having her ribs broken by the man who became the second caliph. Fatima's husband Ali, who was the second convert to Islam and was raised like a son to Muhammad, fought a civil war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife - and one whom he had said was a " perfect woman." 10,000 Muslims were killed in a single battle waged less than 25 years after Muhammad's death. Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad's closest companions. The third caliph was killed by allies of the son of the first (who was murdered by the fifth caliph a few years later, then wrapped in the skin of a dead donkey and burned). The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad's two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph. The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad's family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad's death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war... And that's just the fate of those within the house of Islam! #5 Muhammad directed Muslims to wage war on other religions and bring them under submission to Islam. Within the first few decades following his death, his Arabian companions invaded and conquered Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Zoroastrian lands. A mere 25 years after Muhammad's death, Muslim armies had captured land and people within the borders of over 28 modern countries outside of Saudi Arabia. #6 Muslims continued their Jihad against other religions for 1400 years, checked only by the ability of non-Muslims to defend themselves. To this day, not a week goes by that Islamic fundamentalists do not attempt to kill Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists explicitly in the name of Allah. None of these other religions are at war with each other. #7 Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad. #8 Islam teaches that non-Muslims are less than fully human. Muhammad said that Muslims can be put to death for murder, but that a Muslim could never be put to death for killing a non-Muslim. #9 The Qur'an never once speaks of Allah's love for non- Muslims, but it speaks of Allah's cruelty toward and hatred of non-Muslims more than 500 times. so my brothers and sisters b wise. |
