Either you have a defective Haswell 4700MQ or your story is croc. Unless if you are dealing with processes that are extremely heavily multi-threaded needing more than 4 cores (which is rarely the case unless if you are processing huge data sets), then that AMD FX-3120 isn't going to come close to the performance of the Intel Core i7 4700MQ. Just not happening!

The jump from Haswell to Skylake isn't that big. Maybe about 20%. Intel has been trumping AMD for quite a long time. AMD if care is not taken will go out of business leaving Intel as the sole proprietor of desktop and laptop chips. AMD better be careful. Intel just keeps getting better and better. I don't know why AMD can't innovate.

I got them primarily for vitualization which I don't think qualifies as crunching huge data
While the AMD FX is overclocked , I'm pleasantly surprised it seems to be a greater workhorse than the Intel chip for very similar workloads
Regarding AMD going out of biz, I pray that doesn't happen cos Intel will force outlandish prices down everyone's throats
Its not that AMD can't innovate
They just lack the financial means to do so and take Intel head on
Hopefully AMD Zen can deliver because let's face it, majority of computer users don't require the power of a 6th gen core i7 processor

My ideapad set me back almost £800 yet was panting to compete with the likes of Aorus, MSI and Dell Alien for serious gaming back in 2014 talk less of today

@ pikapizy, go for an Intel branded system
AMD uses the A-series for its high end laptop offerings which IMHO do not give as much bang for the buck due to their usage of compute cores (GPU and CPU cores on the same chip) unlike Intel that have separate CPU and GPU chips
Go for an i5 Intel system which would confer more power [i7=more heat ] and preferably Intel's 5th generation if you can afford it but not ULV powered ultrabooks
Also if you can afford a system that has a dedicated GPU graphics card over on board graphics such as Intel HD series, go for it as you are talking about gaming

Intel is substantially better. You can do benchmark comparisons online when you compare top core i7 models like the core i7 6820hk to say an AMD FX processor.

How can you compare Apples and Oranges?
How can you compare sixth generation Intel CPUs released in 2015 to AMD's FX series which birthed in 2011?

Do you know Nigerians are very PRICE SENSITIVE to IT products
Thus how many can afford Intel's brand new 6th generation offerings?
Compare the AMD's FX series with Intel's 3rd generation Ivy Bridge CPUs such as i3, i5 and i7 3xxx series if you want to
Even at that, this benchmarks are not real world as there should be
Just a bunch of figures you lust after so as to buy more expensive Intel chips in most cases
I have an AMD FX 3120 desktop system which cpuboss says is inferior to my 4th generation Intel Core i7 4700MQ laptop [see graphic]
Yet in my daily usage, the cheaper and older AMD trumps the laptop especially when I'm running emulation software and other CPU tasking activities
Currently Intel is way ahead of AMD in CPU market offerings
Hopefully AMD's Zen architecture should reset AMD in the CPU space
Non the less, if you know what you are looking for, AMD can give better bang for you buck in some scenarios

I learned to focus on only the companies that have Tier II visa sponsorship certificates. The UKBA or Home Office has a list of companies with that privilege.

This was the differentiating marker for you

PS: I see some people bashing GeneralShepherd for being negative about UK. I don't think that's fair. Statistics show that he is correct. If I had my way originally, I'd have gone to US or Canada for my masters. UK keeps making it harder for EU and non-EU migrants to get jobs and settle in. The main advantage that UK has is that masters is just one year, and admission is very easy to get. PG education is a huge source of revenue for UK. They attract you with easy admission, charge you outrageously, rush you through in as short a time as possible, and then find ways to make you get out as soon as possible. The latter half of my masters was very stressful, and if I was still busy applying to jobs and going for interviews, I might have collapsed.

I've been occasionally checking out this thread for months, but avoid commenting.

I'd like to contribute my small opinions.

I was a Nigerian student in UK a few years ago. I was here on a full PG scholarship, and a good one. They paid on time, rarely delayed, and the amount was enough for me to not work.

I also got a good job and started work immediately I finished my degree. I have friends, who got their PG degrees before and after me, that also found work in UK too. In fact, it was through the advice of one of the older guys that I was able to get my job.

I'm willing to offer any assistance and answer questions that anyone may wish to personally ask.

I'm on the lookout for grade A or good condition tokunbo vehicles of the above (or other good) brands
