There are certain things in life that look normal because we have seen them for too long, but when you pause, reflect, and think deeply, you realize they are not normal at all. They are abnormalities that society has dressed up as wisdom, tradition, or “the way things are.” The danger is not in the abnormalities themselves, but in how easily we accept them without questioning. A thinking mind must always ask: Does this truly make sense?

One strange abnormality is our obsession with certificates. In many societies, certificates are presented as the ultimate proof of intelligence and success. Yet, when you look closely, certificates seem to serve the poor more than the wealthy. Hardly can you find a graduate who becomes a billionaire strictly because of his degree. Education is valuable, yes, but when certificates replace thinking, creativity, and courage, they become chains rather than keys. Many people are educated yet helpless, qualified yet dependent, certified yet confused about life.

Another abnormality is the belief that salary earners get wealthy. Most salary earners do not build wealth; they only earn enough to survive. Their income is fixed, their time is sold, and their dreams are postponed till retirement. A salary often pays bills, not visions. This does not mean earning a salary is wrong, but it becomes abnormal when people believe it is the highest financial destination rather than a starting point.

A third abnormality appears strongly in religion. Only in religion will a leader with no formal education or professional experience confidently teach and instruct a PhD holder on how to live life. Wisdom is important, but wisdom without learning, exposure, or accountability can easily turn into control. Knowledge should inspire humility, not unquestioned authority.

Closely related is another religious abnormality: someone who has never been married teaching married people how marriage should work. Advice is valuable, but experience matters. We also live in a world where busyness is mistaken for productivity. People are always busy, always tired, yet rarely fulfilled. Activity without direction is exhaustion, not progress. Being busy is not the same as being effective.

There is also the abnormality of outsourcing thinking. People allow culture, religion, family, or social media to think for them. They repeat opinions they have never examined and defend beliefs they do not understand. A life not personally examined is a life easily controlled.

Another strange normal is how morality is preached but not practiced. Society celebrates words more than actions. Integrity is admired in speeches but compromised in daily life. Values become slogans instead of standards.

Finally, there is the abnormality of measuring success by appearance rather than substance. Cars, clothes, titles, and followers are used to judge worth, while character, peace of mind, and impact are ignored. A life that looks successful but lacks meaning is one of the saddest contradictions.

These abnormalities persist because they are familiar. They feel safe. But growth begins when we question what everyone else accepts. A healthy society is not one without abnormalities, but one where people are brave enough to think, reflect, and choose truth over comfort.
