Fela wasn't a saint by all means, don't know if anyone remember s the huge traffic caused every evening when he goes to his shrine @ ojuelegba. Baba preferred most times to be carried by one huge guy followed by many causing massive congestion around ojuelegba/ olosha axis, this extend far back to yaba. It was not only his music that annoyed the government @ that time but also his antics. Same scenario when he was at kakadu @ alagomejii. Don't ask how I knew all these cos I grew round there. |

ibedun: Our tradition stays. IMO Igbo and omo ale Yoruba discussing nonsense. Our tradition must be observed in full. @ibedun pls be cautious in your approach to life /tradition. There are area of our tradition that need to move to the 21 century, if I can remember my history well we used to have the BOBAKUS, what happens to that part of our tradition? This NIMBY/selective approach is OK abi? In as much as its not your head/ family to be sacrificed abi? I hear u jare. |

nduchucks: Thanks; then the authorities must inspect the contents of the burial artifacts. The point is that, human sacrifice must not be allowed.
In the olden days, human sacrifice was observed when an Ooni departs. Ife elders are on record that when Oba Sijuade ascended the throne, he declared that instead of human beings, rams should be used. We want to see this ram. If humans are used instead, the chiefs should be jailed. Period. I totally abhor this unnecessary human sacrifice its nonsense to say the least but problem is those that r highly placed in our society even govt. Secretly give approval to this barbaric act. |

Now I query what that got to do with the discussion and you try moving the goal post. I ask the question again , him replacing 200 gods of oduduwa with the one from Jerusalem is of what significant? |

tpiander: the Oba is a born again Christian, i think your imaginations are all in your head. I laff in ijebu ,the most absurd decision ever made by the late oni if true even the bible say thou shall serve no two Gods. Moreover the gate of heaven is automatically opened for him being born again? Look replacing one local deity for a foreign one is delusional to say the least. Africans tire me sef, we seem confused/misplaced. |

Kennedyiheme: why d insults nman? Can't people get into arguments with u guys on this forum without insults, so immature.....there's a particular place in ogun state I used to live, they killed a woman I knw, used her for sacrifice, she was comin from somewere late, I dnt knw if u live in lagos or london to say such tins don't happen, and yes its not culture its stupidity, with all this ritual, most nigerians are still poor, whts the benefit pls? Africans tend to overdo things, for example the white man brought chritianity, but we seem to be so zealous than them in the practise, where has that led us? Where people are meant to use constructive reasoning they'll run to tradition or religion.....if u blive so much in tradition, why hasn't oduduwa stopped boko haram in nigeria? I tot tradition matter? Why didn't the native doctors in the ooni's palace treat him, they had to send him to the western world, neglecting there cultural practise, if the culture was so important, why didn't they treat him in his palace, u talk abt halloween, halloween isn't only practised in america, some people do it here in nigeria, halloween is a practise used in remembering the saints and the dead, I wonder wht connection it has with the fallacy u call traditiion, I will advice africans to forget all dis rubbish for now and focus on the things that matters the most....elcttricity, goof economy, secuirity, etc.. Couldn't have said it better if we don't challenge tradition/culture we are going to be cocooned in our shell and not evolve. I am totally against this human sacrifice for fellow human, its so silly. One oba died and we line up two hundred heads, I just don't see why the dead obas relatives are not the one lining up to follow there fada. At least they benefited most when he was alive. |

dyabman: Have wondered about stuff like this in the past , somethings really needs to be addressed imminently , we need CHANGE in that area of tradition really.. I am perfectly with you coming from a royal lineage myself used to agree with tradition but overtime I have given it deep tot and wonder the reason we must continue on this path, if the owner of Facebook or Richard Brandon had sacrificed 8 heads to move man kind fwd I wldnt have minded but? Common some of our culture/ tradition is becoming ridiculous to say the least. |

sweetgala: If the new king intends to live long or be able to wear the crown without dying of head ache he would have to do what you call "cannibalism" what we call culture I guess you know what you are bargaining for contesting such crown, but the idea of eating fellow human doesn't make you a demi god I presumed, the culture of sacrificing 7 heads with a dead human being is something we need to challenge not just accept anymore. Maybe if the 7 heads are members of his families the act will Change. We should not just accept it that it's tradition, its gotten us as pple not that far though. |

They will only bury the remaining part of his body after removing all what they needed from his body(eg Heart, liver, intestine, the skull etc) Don't still get this tradition where cannibalism still exist. Africans and archaic believe. In as much its not sijuades son/grandson to used must be OK isnt it? |

Moreover, if only the govt are less self serving and can open their eyes, the culture and tradition of the different tribes in Nigeria can be a major foreign exchange earner This is really crazy talk believe me, even the eyo tradition that is preserved earns Lagos state how much? Argungun festival nko? OK shogbo festival dey there and many more. Tell me one country that survives on preserving culture/tradition? Even isreal can't survive on culture/tradition, Egypt nko? |

Jaymaxxy: Ooni orisa was richer than your entire village. Think before you post. The point of your chest beating for the late ooni is lost if this late oba couldn't be buried with his wealth. Even the richest king ever liveth (Solomon) couldn't achieve that fit. Look vanity is all upon vanity. Remember his company constructed that ife/Ibadan rd. That barely lasted for two yrs. |

Kemmy210: . bye Can you tell how things are done in ife? as if you are the only graduate of OAU(only if u graduated)How much of ife do you know within 4 to 7yrs dat u stayed there?.Mind you,it is a common practice in Yoruba land(I don't know of other tribe) to sacrifice pple when burying their king(culture I pray dey review).I was in Esa-oke,Oscotech when their king died and according to their indigene, they explained to us dat dey were looking for 7 non-indigene to bury with him so they declared indefinite curfew which dey stopped after almost 3weeks,so what are we saying? This post got me thinking, you casually want human sacrifice to be reviewed but its sound you are for it in as much as its not you or someone you know that's being sacrificed.Am I right or its too early to think? |
