PoliticsUgwuanyi Denied Being Placed On Hold By The President During 2016 Nimbo Crisis by OEPHIUS(op): 2:25pm On Apr 28, 2021
Femi Kani-Kayode debunks FAKE NEWS being peddled on social media against His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, over a purported statement attributed to him on the 2016 Nimbo crisis, as the video clip of the interview granted by the governor in 2016 also debunking the allegation emerges ...

"I just spoke with my friend & brother
Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state & I can confirm that the statement that was attributed to him on social media this morning which is making the rounds is FAKE.

"He did not have any conversation with Presidency officials on the phone & Ugwuanyi is one of the few Governors and leaders that we have in this country today that is a profoundly good man.

"It is a pity that anyone would seek to treat him like this and demean him in this way. If we are not careful fake news will kill us all in this country.

"Those behind this disinformation and these lies are simply despicable" ~ Femi Fani-Kayode.

EducationInnovation: Enugu Partners Oxford University On Students’ Mentorship by OEPHIUS(op): 5:10pm On Apr 26, 2021
#Innovation: Enugu govt partners Oxford University on students’ mentorship

…Unveils Coal City Fellowship

The administration of Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi of #Enugu State, through the State Scholarship and Education Loans Board (ESSELB), in partnership with #Oxford #University (#African #Society), has unveiled an innovative platform, known as The Coal City Fellowship, to enable desirable young minds in the state to harness their intellectual potential and achieve their life aspirations.

Unveiling the flagship edition of the Coal City Fellowship, the Executive Secretary of ESSELB, Barr. Uche Levis Abonyi, in a joint statement with Nwangele Godwin Chukwuemeka of Oxford University (African Society), disclosed that the novel mentorship programme in Enugu State, was as a result of the premium the state government placed on quality education.

They explained that the programme “is an exclusive student fellowship that will absorb and work with the most driven young minds from the South-Eastern region of Nigeria, providing them with information, mentorship, financial and all-around support to take their careers to the next level”.

The statement added that the Fellowship will arm the potential fellows with “T.G.I.'s five spokes of excellence: having a big picture, building yourself, creating social impact, building relationships, and being approachable”.

It disclosed that the above concepts would reflect all through the Fellowship and discussions to achieve and provide access to information required for academic success, stressing that the innovative programme “recognizes the need to help bright young minds develop because it is crucial to unlocking their potentials”.

According to the statement, the Fellowship, in line with its objective, will create an enabling environment for students to gain quality education at any world-class university, adding: “Coal City fellows will have full access to information on globally available academic opportunities.

“We will provide world-class mentorship within students' areas of interest to help them visualize success in their fields and give them the extra nudge to succeed”.

It revealed that the mentorship will take different forms and involve virtual platforms such as emails, audio, and video calls, provide fellows with information about opportunities in schools, such as scholarships, research, and social enterprise grants, and encourage them to utilize the opportunities.

Announcing that the Fellowship application has commenced on Sunday, April 25, 2021, via: https://coalcityfellowship.esselb.en.gov.ng/login.php, to end on May 25, 2021, the statement advised indigenes of Enugu State in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies in a recognized Nigerian University, to utilize “this opportunity and apply to be part of this unique community of thought leaders, academics, and system innovators”.

Full text of the statement reads:

“Given the prioritization of quality education in Enugu State, the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, through the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board (ESSELB) brings you the flagship edition of the Coal City Fellowship.

“The Coal City Fellowship is an exclusive student fellowship that will absorb and work with the most driven young minds from the south-eastern region of Nigeria, providing them with information, mentorship, financial and all-around support to take their careers to the next level.

“We will target these values to aid fellows to harness their intellectual potential and achieve their life aspirations.

“Aim of the program: Joining the Fellowship will arm you with T.G.I.'s five spokes of excellence: having a big picture, building yourself, creating social impact, building relationships, and being approachable.

“These concepts would reflect all through the Fellowship and discussions to achieve the following: Provide access to information required for academic success. The Fellowship recognizes the need to help bright young minds develop because it is crucial to unlocking their potentials.

“In line with this objective, the Fellowship will create an enabling environment for students to gain quality education at any world-class university.

“Coal City fellows will have full access to information on globally available academic opportunities.

“Provide mentorship for selected students: We will provide world-class mentorship within students' areas of interest to help them visualize success in their fields and give them the extra nudge to succeed.

“Our mentorship will take on different forms and involve virtual platforms such as emails, audio, and video calls.

“Guide students through application rounds: The Fellowship aims to take a straightforward and practical approach to solve human capacity development challenges in Africa. It will provide fellows with information about opportunities in schools, such as scholarships, research, and social enterprise grants; it will also encourage students to utilize these opportunities.

“Furthermore, the Fellowship will provide a personalized and practical guide through the whole application process and provide hints on the requirements at each stage of the process and each student's expectations.

“Refine students and guide them to participate in social change activities: This process is necessary because the students' growth process requires early human capacity development. Because solving Nigeria's challenges requires young people with leadership potential and commitment to community service, we have made leadership and community service paramount to our operations. This tailored curriculum will enable students to contribute to making their immediate society a better place.

“Promotion of peer-to-peer mentoring: This Fellowship is designed to be long-lasting. Thus, we will incorporate peer-to-peer mentoring where senior fellows can practice what they have learned by mentoring junior fellows. Our methodology will help consolidate the concepts and ideas learned during this Fellowship and facilitate a faster learning process.

“The program will also provide insightful training and commensurate mentorship on innovation, which can spin off to creative solutions to Nigerian techno-economic challenges. The mentors will also bolster socially impactful projects ranging from education support to healthcare improvement and community welfare projects to give our fellows added advantage in future application projects while strategically positioning them to harness opportunities.

“Application process: If you are from Enugu State and in your penultimate year of undergraduate studies in a recognized Nigerian University, jump on this opportunity and apply to be part of this unique community of thought leaders, academics, and system innovators. #RuralDevelopment: Gov. #Ugwuanyi inaugurates 22.443km Neke-Mbu-Ogbodu Abba-Obollo Etiti road

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of #Enugu State, on Thursday, inaugurated the newly asphalted 22.443km Neke-Mbu-Ogbodu Abba-Obollo Etiti road which was awarded under the Phase one roads of the Rural Access and Mobility Project (#RAMP-2) in the state.

Inaugurating the all-important rural road which connects Isi-Uzo and Udenu Local Government Areas of the state, Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the project was in line with his administration’s rural development agenda, stressing that it will ease “the movement of goods and persons while advancing our administration’s rural connectivity and integrated development strategy”.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1173972119742205&id=219622205177206

The governor revealed that two collapsed Bailey bridges were also reconstructed as part of the road project, adding that “this 22.443km road received asphaltic concrete surfacing along its entire length representing a pioneering instance of asphaltic concreting of RAMP-2 roads since the programme’s inception in Nigeria”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi expressed gratitude to the World Bank and French Development Agency (AFD) for yielding to his administration’s persuasion for the novelty in asphalting of RAMP-2 roads in the country.

The governor therefore tasked the beneficiary communities to “take ownership of this critical infrastructure, protect it and optimize its utilitarian value”, stressing that “Our administration is committed to the establishment of Enugu State Rural Road Maintenance Agency for enhancement of the durability and serviceability of rural road infrastructure while we desirably strive to participate in the RAMP-2 successor Project, the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), for consolidation of the gains made in RAMP-2”.

Earlier in his speech, the National Coordinator for Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) and Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (#RAAMP), Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), Abuja, Engr. Aminu Bodinga Mohammed, commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration’s performance of Enugu RAMP-2 “that has successfully constructed a total of 417.682km rural roads against the set target of 370km”.

Engr. Mohammed who noted that “this laudable achievement is quite commendable”, pointed out that the administration of Gov. Ugwuanyi, which paid its counterpart funds, “was also able to construct a total of 23 nos. River Crossings against the set target of 16”.

According to him, “the achievement of the state (Enugu) cannot be over emphasized, most especially the completion of about 270km of roads within 11 months.

“Let me also congratulate the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) team under the able leadership of Engr. Chinedu Ugwu for a work well done in Enugu State. I urge the state to keep up the good works”.

In their remarks, the State Project Coordinator for Enugu RAMP-2, Engr. Ugwu and the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his commitment to the success of RAMP projects in the state, in spite of the state’s lean resources as a result of the nation’s economic challenges.

The State Project Coordinator said that RAMP-2 has constructed over 418 rural roads, several bridges and culverts in the state.

The Works Commissioner stated that the state government paid all the required counterpart funds for the construction of the RAMP projects, despite the nation’s economic challenges.

In their goodwill messages, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Augustine Nnamani, the Chairman, State Assembly House Committee on Works, Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, Chairman of Udenu LGA and the State Chairman of ALGON, Hon. Solomon Onah, his Isi-Uzo counterpart, Hon. Jacob Abonyi, indigenes of the two council areas, appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for his sustained commitment to rural development, maintaining they never imagined that a state government could intervene on the road which was hitherto in a deplorable state and brought untoward pains to the people of the area.

PoliticsGuild Of Editors Commends Ugwuanyi’s Rural Development Drive by OEPHIUS(op): 6:05am On Apr 21, 2021
Nigeria Guild of Editors has expressed satisfaction with the massive development strides and other people-oriented programmes Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi’s administration is carrying out in the urban and rural communities of #Enugu State, stressing that they are highly impressed.

Speaking during an inspection tour of some projects executed by Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration, when the standing committee of the Guild of Editors held its meeting in Enugu recently, the President of the body, Mustapha Isah, said that the governor’s massive rural development projects are commendable and worthy of emulation.

“The quality of roads we saw in the rural areas, the massive dualized road in Nsukka; the primary and secondary healthcare facilities and even tertiary institution for the ESUT Teaching Hospital and College of Medicine, in Igbo-Eno, are impressive and commendable”, the President said.

Isah pointed out that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s decision to invest massively in the health sector is worthy of emulation “in the sense that he has interest in the health of his people of Enugu State”.

The Guild of Editors’ President added that governor through his administration’s massive investment in the health sector especially at the rural areas “is making huge investments to ensure that in case we have any future outbreak like COVID-19, Enugu State will not be caught unaware.”

He added that "he (Ugwuanyi) is already putting foundations in place to ensure that the State is ready for any such future outbreak."

On his part, the Editor of Vanguard Newspapers, Eze Anaba said: “What we have seen is a determination by a governor to open up both the urban and rural areas; that is quite commendable” because “if you develop the rural areas, you develop the state”.

Anaba, who applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi’s achievements in rural road infrastructure, education and health added: “We have obviously seen the massive road infrastructure, the ongoing teaching hospital and College of Medicine projects, among others; they are huge and will lead to the development of the rural areas and the state as a whole will benefit”.

Also speaking on Gov. Ugwuanyi’s rural development drive, Martins Oloja, Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Newspapers stated: “I am impressed by what I saw; you know there is something about me. I have written extensively against mediocrity. I don’t like mediocrity.

“I went inside the newly constructed and equipped Type-3 Primary Healthcare Centre and the Cottage Hospital with Isolation wing, the finishing was impressive. They considered so many things that people in the village need. It is very impressive and they even built quarters for doctors and nurses.

“It is good that the governor (Ugwuanyi) is going to the roots of the matter by not being political, concentrating development in the rural areas. He wants people to know that we haven’t been having healthcare delivery system in this place (rural communities) so let’s rebuild; let’s revisit the foundation”.

While applauding the initiative behind the Infectious Diseases Hospital, the editors also urged Gov. Ugwuanyi to remain steadfast in his sound vision in developing the rural areas for socio-economic growth and expansion. They enjoined him to speed up his actions and ensure that he completes all the projects his administration is executing before the end of his tenure.

Some project sites visited were the ongoing first state government's flyover bridge project at T-Junction Abakpa Nike, Enugu, the massive construction works at the permanent site of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital and College of Medicine, Igbo-Eno, the massively rehabilitated and transformed Enugu State Infectious Diseases Hospital, for isolation and treatment of patients with infectious diseases, formerly known as Colliery Hospital Enugu and quality road infrastructure in the rural areas.

Others include the Type-3 Primary Healthcare Centres, which were newly constructed in seven Local Government Areas of Enugu State and modern Cottage hospitals with Isolation wings ongoing in Awgu, Oji River, Udenu and Igbo Eze North LGAs, in line with its vision to provide quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services especially in the rural communities.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Work and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, his Health counterpart, Dr. Ikechukwu Emmanuel Obi, and other top government functionaries accompanied the editors to the project sites.

PoliticsWater Supply: Enugu To Employ 104 New Staff To Meet Challenges by OEPHIUS(op): 4:23am On Apr 16, 2021
We are recruiting 104 new hands to align with modern changes in our service delivery - #Enugu #Water #Corporation

*Full text of the #recruitment #advertisement below...

The Enugu State Water Corporation said that it commenced recruitment of 104 staff of the Corporation, in furtherance of the sheer determination of the administration of #Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi to reposition the agency and drastically tackle the inherent challenges in the water sector.

The State Water Corporation, on April 8, 2021, through an internal and external advertisement, called for application for 39 posts in 12 units, namely Engineering, Planning and Design, Operations and Maintenance, Mechanical Electrical Group, Ajali Technical Crews, Oji River Stations, and Zonal Offices Maintenance Teams. Other units are Nsukka Zone, Finance, Public Relations, and Administration.

Speaking on the recruitment exercise, the Managing Director of the Corporation, Engr. Martin Okwor, said that many workers of the Corporation lack modern skills to drive the current utility concern for optimal result and service delivery.

Engr. Okwor, who disclosed that the Corporation is under-staffed following the retirement and death of several workers, revealed that their replacements have not been carried out over the years.

He added that “the massive expansion and modernization scheme of the present administration, under the able leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, with the International Development Partners such as the AFD PROGRAM , currently in place, will require that we engage experienced staff to under-study the project as it is been carried out for ease of operation as well as future maintenance”.

Stressing that “learning on the job is the best training”, the Managing Director pointed out that “the new employees will do exactly that to drive the new Water Corporation to emerge from this administration”.

Engr. Okwor who noted that “old practice and habits are hard to give up”, maintained that “most of the current employees are not adapting to the modern changes inherent in the Corporation”.

He therefore reassured the people of Enugu State that the Ugwuanyi administration is working round the clock to address the issue of water in the state.

PoliticsMonica Ugwuanyi Campaigns Against Gender-Based Violence In Enugu State by OEPHIUS(op): 6:56pm On Apr 14, 2021
#Ugwuanyi’s wife campaigns against gender-based violence in #Enugu State

scales up awareness on yellow fever, COVID-19 vaccination

The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, on Wednesday, rounded off her state and zonal campaigns against gender-based violence, calling for an all-inclusive and sustained crusade to stem the tide of domestic violence, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, public harassment, among other forms of violence against women in the society.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi who also used the events to scale up awareness on yellow fever and the importance of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination, described gender-based violence as barbaric and a violation of human rights.

Sensitizing women during the state flag off of the campaign against gender-based violence, held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, as well as the campaign in Enugu North, Enugu West and Enugu East senatorial districts, Mrs. Ugwuanyi lamented that the violent behaviour has eaten deep into the fabric of the society, adding that it cuts across most human societies, irrespective of gender.

According to her, “We know that not only women are victims of gender violence, some men are also beaten by their wives”.

The Enugu First Lady maintained that some children were being molested by their fathers and relatives and urged women to preach and sensitize the people against the ugly act.

She explained that the aim of the sensitization campaign was to enlighten the women of the three senatorial districts on the onerous task and counseled them to carry the crusade to churches, schools, families, workplaces, among others, stressing that women have the numerical strength to change the society for the better.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi equally harped on the importance of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination and charged women to drive the campaign for the public to get vaccinated as a sure way of containing the pandemic.

Advising women to be respectful and avoid things that could trigger violence, the governor’s wife encouraged them to involve themselves in politics narrating that they have a lot to achieve if they unite and speak in unison.

“Let us come together and speak with one voice. We have the numerical strength, we can vote in our members provided we are united”, she said.

Also speaking, a Consultant, Public Health Physician, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Dr. Nwachukwu Ugwunna, who delivered a lecture on “The Current Wave of COVID-19 and Necessary Containment Measures”, revealed that the last COVID-19 lockdown created ample opportunity for people to assess the level of gender-based violence among families and the society at large.

Dr. Ugwunna maintained that the poverty and frustration engendered by the last the lockdown skyrocketed the level of gender violence within the family level.

“You know that the last COVD-19 lockdown brought poverty, frustration among families, unlike what it was where in the morning family members move to their different businesses and schools, this time family members did not go anywhere from morning till night, hunger, poverty became prevalent thereby resulting to violence”.

In his lecture on “Yellow Fever Symptoms, Prevention and Vaccination”, the Deputy Incident Manager, Emergency Operations Centre, Enugu State Ministry of Health, Dr. Uchechukwu Joel Okenwa, spoke on measures of checking the spate of the epidemic among the people.

Dr. Okenwa stated that yellow fever has claimed many lives in the society and urged the people to avoid anything that will make them prone to the disease, which he said, is caused by a particular species of night mosquito.

He therefore enjoined the people to keep their environment clean, clean gutters, stagnant water, wear long-sleeves and vaccinate themselves to check yellow fever, stating that there is currently no medicine for the disease.

Other people who spoke at the events include the General Manager TAMARSAL, Mrs. Evelyn Onah, the Zonal Commander NAPTIP, Enugu State Command, Mrs. Comfort Agboko, Executive Director Heroine Women Foundation, Mrs. Onyinye Mama.

Chairmen of Local Government Councils, their wives and other top government functionaries also attended the events, which were powered by the Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Office of the Wife of the Governor and the governor’s wife’s pet project, Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation (U-TOLF).

PoliticsEnugu Opens Lion Busiess Park, NEPZA, NOTAP Applaud Decision Behind It by OEPHIUS(op): 8:25pm On Apr 13, 2021
NEPZA, NOTAP, others hail Ugwuanyi at unveiling of Lion Business Park

Stakeholders in the investment and business promotion sector have commended Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi of #Enugu State, for providing a conducive atmosphere and the framework for businesses to thrive in Enugu State.

Speaking during the unveiling of the Lion Business Park Enugu, an integrated industrial/commercial hub, driven by public-private partnership initiative, which was an offshoot of the first-ever Enugu State Investment Summit in 2016, christened “Oganiru Enugu”, organized by the Ugwuanyi administration to woo investors, the stakeholders described the project as one of the governor’s visions that has become a reality.

The event also witnessed inauguration of the Lion Business Park Head Office complex and special presentation of the Park.

In his goodwill message at the event, the Managing Director of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi “for providing conducive environment to attract this project”.

Represented by the Assistant Director/Zone Administrator, Enugu Industrial Park Free Trade Zone, Mrs. Obiageli Obioha, NEPZA’s Managing Director disclosed that they were impressed with the milestone the Zone Management of Lion Business Park has accomplished, pointing out that “the construction work here at site is enough to attest to the absolute readiness of the Promoters to commence full business”.

NEPZA stated that the initiative was a welcome development “as it will encourage in-Country manufacturing which aligns with the current drive by the Federal Government to focus the economy on local production and moving away from Import dependency”.

“It needs to be reiterated that Lion Business Park FZ Development Company has taken the bull by the horns by acquiring this massive land (measuring 2,000 hectares) through the support of the state government; and putting in place the necessary infrastructure, now is the right time to be allocated a space for active participation”.

The agency therefore encouraged the captains of industry, local and foreign investors, other individuals, groups and governments to take advantage of the incentives which the scheme offers to bring about rapid socio-economic and industrial development in the South East region and Nigeria by extension, assuring them that “your investment is in safe hands while expecting that you play by the rules”.

On his part, the Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Dan-Azumi Mohammed Ibrahim, lauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his foresight towards the actualization of the gigantic investment project in Enugu State, saying: “I am really impressed with this vision”.

Dr. Ibrahim maintained that NOTAP is committed to any effort to reduce unemployment and grow the nation’s economy, stressing that the agency will support and assist Lion Business Park to realize its set objectives.

The former Economic Adviser to the President, Prof. Osita Ogbu pointed out that the governor’s vision to partner the Lion Business Park is clear and should be applauded, stressing that “it is an important project all of us should buy into”.

Noting that the vision of the project is in line with the mandate of “Alaigbo Stabilization Fund”, Prof. Ogbu thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi and all those who are leading it for their philanthropic vision and zeal towards the progress of Igboland.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Lion Business Park, Dr. Okechukwu John Mbonu, congratulated Gov. Ugwuanyi for “your vision turned reality”, adding: “I am proud to say that you conceived the vision of an economic hub and Lion Business Park turned that vision into reality”.

According to him, “it all started in 2016, when Enugu State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi organized an investment summit, which attracted participants from within and outside Nigeria.

“The central theme of the summit was on how to catalyze the economy of Nigeria and in particular South Eastern region, using the advantages offered by Enugu State as a peaceful central location”.

Explaining that the Park was conceptualized to bridge the significant manufacturing gap in Nigeria and West Africa sub-region by co-locating manufacturing industries with wholesalers that sell imported, assembled and locally manufactured goods and services, Dr. Mbonu said that “we are poised to develop what will arguably be regarded as the largest industrial cum commercial hub in Eastern Nigeria”.

Unveiling the Park, Gov. Ugwuanyi described the event as historic “as it heralds the birthing of Lion Business Park, a novelty especially in Eastern Nigeria”, stressing that “it is also momentous as Lion Business Park presents an opportunity for us to key into Mr. President’s vision of diversifying the economy of Nigeria through promotion of local production of goods and services for export, creation of employment and stimulation of economic growth”.

His words: “We have strived to transform the economy of the state through the implementation of several economic projects and various development agenda. We organized the first-ever Enugu State Investment Summit in 2016 (Oganiru Enugu) wherein we opened up Enugu State to investors and showcased the investment opportunities in the state.

“Thereafter, Enugu State Government continued to play its role as a business and investment enabler through provision of robust infrastructure, peaceful/secure operating environment for business/investment, consistent and favourable policies, facilitation of all bureaucratic processes required for starting and doing business through open One-Stop-Investment-Center (OSIC) under the Enugu State Investment Development Authority (ESIDA), friendly tax regime and professional regulatory oversight as significant co-factors for investment inflow”.

The former President of the Senate, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, members of the State House of Assembly, Council Chairmen, fomer Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Arch. Ferdinand Agu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Free Trade Zone, Mr. Martin Orakwe, local and foreign investors, were among the dignitaries at the event.

PoliticsESUTH: Setting The Records Straight - Gerald Orukwa by OEPHIUS(op): 4:34am On Apr 08, 2021
Gerald Orukwa: Setting records straight on J.B.C Udem’s frivolous open letter to Gov. Ugwuanyi over ESUTH

A response to this highly convoluted, mendacious, insulting and hate-filled write up by a presumably faceless Dr J.B.C Udem would not have been necessary, but for the condescending language, despicable, unsavoury and sundry allegations laid against His Excellency, Governor IfeanyiUgwuanyi which postured him as part of the problem in ESUT.

Hear “Dr Udem,” ‘Your Excellency Sir, May I inform you, in case you do not know that there is grave yard silence in the State regarding how you are supervising the affairs at ESUT since you took over as Governor’.

It is really an irony that “Dr Udem,” who shortly will be exposed for who he is and represents, did not notice nor draw the attention of His Excellency to this grave- yard silence in the five years of Professor Luke Anike which took ESUT to the Hades, but has become a subject of media blitz following the logical appointment of Professor Charles Eze (an Nsukka Man in his words) as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, alongside other principal Officers of the University on 23rd May 2020.

The truth of the matter is that there are so many “Vice-Chancellors-in-Waiting” who in their convoluted minds think that ESUT is a conquered territory which must function according to their whims and caprices even when the State Government and the University Governing Council are determined to correct the entrenched system failures before bringing in the full complement of Principal Officers of the University, (not just a Vice-Chancellor) to superintend over the University.

For such Characters, they will gather under all names, spread Goebbels style falsehood and propaganda, denigrate sections of the society and foul the environment of peace, but the “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the awesome God of David,” will not allow evil to triumph over good.

It may interest “Dr Udem” the spokesperson of the Association of Vice-Chancellors –in-Waiting and Prof. Chinedu Aguba that Enugu West Senatorial Zone has not only monopolized the position of Registrar, but used that office to heavily skew the Nominal staff disposition in ESUT in terms of local government origin, in favour of Enugu West Zone, particularly Udi Local Government, as can be gleaned from the ESUT Council records shown below:

NOMINAL ROLL RANKING BY SENATORIAL DISTRICTS

Enugu West Senatorial District
www.nairaland.com/attachments/13366709_screenshot20210408042806ucbrowser_jpega58e98929a847755124eb2286d492c6d

“Dr Udem” writing on behalf of Prof Chinedu Aguba, the ASUU Chairman, complained bitterly the way and manner he was removed as the Director of Institute of Education and replaced with Prof, Ursula Nnabueze from ‘Nsukka Zone’, but failed to also report that the Vice-Chairman of ASUU ESUT, Prof Larry Eneje (from ‘Nsukka Zone’) was also relieved of his appointment as HOD of Applied Biology and Brewing, at the same time, for their brazen sabotage of the efforts of Management to commence academic activities on campus and save the university from certain collapse. What explains this level of selfishness and treachery? Is “Dr Udem” and his sponsors saying that Prof Larry Eneje (an “Nsukka Man”) is inconsequential or that Prof Ursula Nnabueze who is over 10 year senior to Chinedu Aguba as a Professor is not qualified to be appointed simply because she is from Nsukka? What a Shame? ‘Dr Udem’ and his sponsors have to explain how the desperation of Prof. Eze would lead him to remove Prof. Aguba who had presented himself to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor as a friend, but chose to be overwhelmed and suffused by sectional considerations in championing for the removal of the Acting Vice-chancellor in several monitored sectional meetings, and even on the floor of ASUU less than 3 month into his tenure.

Again, in the wicked desperation to create a nonexistent composition in the Management of ESUT, “Dr Udem,” his bunch of desperados and Nsukka haters spared no shame in misinforming the public. The truth is that there is nowhere in the organogram of any University where Director of Works and Chief Security Officers are part of the Management team. As a matter of fact, the Chief Security Officer is a middle level Officer of the University. It is not also true that Prof Frank Ezugwu is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of ESUT. He is currently the Provost ESUT College of Medicine – a position into which he was duly elected following the expiration of the tenure of the former Provost, Late Professor Anthony Ugochukwu. So, why this inciting misinformation?

Talking about domination of ESUT Management by Enugu North Senatorial Zone, “Dr Udem” and his co-travellers must be reminded that in the recent past, the whole Management team was populated by Enugu West Zone. For instance, at the time Prof. Chiweyite Ejike was the Vice-Chancellor of ASUTECH, Prof Festus Eze was the Registrar, Mr Akachukwu, the Bursar, and Dr Ngozi Ene, the University Librarian; all these Principal Offices were from one Zone. As recent as 2011, the Management and Council was also dominated by Enugu West, precisely Udi LGA. Details are as follows:

1. Visitor ——- His Excellency Barr. Sullivan Chime (UDI

2. Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council —- Chief ChiloOffiah (UDI)

3. Deputy-Vice-Chancellor —– Prof. A.E Uzoagulu (UDI)

4. Registrar —- Barr. C.C Igbokwe —- (UDI)

5. University Librarian —- Mr George Igwebuike (UDI

6. Provost College of Medicine —– Prof. A.O.C Akpa (Awgu)

So why didn’t “Dr Udem” and his co-travellers draw the attention of the Public to the above skewed appointments and skewed staff disposition in ESUT? “Dr Udem” should please do himself and his sponsors a favour by keeping to the popular aphorism that “those who live in glass houses should not throw stones”

The unwarranted onslaught on His Excellency and the people of Enugu North in the open letter to the Governor by “Dr J.B.C Udem” represents the mindset of desperados who are neither tutored by history nor guided by reality. ESUT will never fall into the hands of scavengers, who have made progress impossible in the University. The said letter has nothing to do with the composition of ESUT Management, but everything to do with those who have assumed the post of Vice-Chancellors- in- Waiting and feel that except Prof Eze is intimidated out; their pipe dreams will never be achieved.

It is also on record that since the inception of Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo, eleven years now, Enugu West has continued to produce the Rector of the institution till date. Also Prof. Edwin Onyeneje from Enugu West (Udi) was Rector of IMT Enugu for 4 years and was succeeded by Prof. Iloeje from Enugu West zone (Udi) who was in office for five years. Who is fooling who? Where was the likes of Dr. J.B.C Udem and his cohorts then?

Why the desperation and hullabaloo for the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor of ESUT when it is obvious and certain that whenever such appointment is made, the appointee will be in office for five secured years which is the tenure of the office? Why the stereotyping and blackmailing of Nsukka people all the time? What is the offence of an Nsukka man? Enough is really enough. Oyi Ekwa Awueshi Kpachar’ Enya.

Dr. Gerald Orukwa wrote in from Enugu.

The 5th Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, has expressed the Church’s confidence in the leadership qualities of Governor Ifeanyi #Ugwuanyi of #Enugu State.

Primate Ndukuba told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “you are one of the young men in politics we can look up to and have confidence that this nation has a future”.

Speaking when he led his entourage to the Government House, Enugu, on a courtesy call, ahead of the grand opening ceremony of the Church’s 5-day conference, holding at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), the Primate expressed delight at Gov. Ugwuanyi’s commitment to God, peace and good governance in Enugu State.

The cleric, who offered prayers for Gov. Ugwuanyi and the state, also told the governor that “you have honoured God and I am trusting that the Lord will continue to honour you” and “through your leadership, this state will continue to grow from strength to strength”.

Commenting on the religious event tagged: “Joshua Generation International Conference”, the Primate stressed that “this nation belongs to all of us and the young people have more stake in the future of this nation and the future of the Church; and I am believing God that the Lord will turn things around; that Nigeria will live, we shall proper; we have no other country”.

Earlier, the Anglican Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, explained that the ongoing conference is targeted at bringing together over 15,000 youths across the country to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to raise a new generation of people who will, like the Joshua of Old, fight corruption, promote the core values of the Anglican Communion and contribute immensely towards the progress of the country.

PoliticsEaster: Governor Ugwuanyi Preaches Peace, Faith In God by OEPHIUS(op): 5:38am On Apr 04, 2021
On this year’s occasion of Easter, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on all Nigerians to take advantage of the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ to advance peace and commit themselves to God, in faith and in practice.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, in his Easter message, congratulated his fellow Christians for the successful forty-day long Lenten season in penance for the atonement of sins and salvation of mankind, which Easter portends.

The governor, who maintained that Easter is the hallmark of Christianity, stressed that the celebration of Christ’s resurrection and salvation, offers Nigerians a great opportunity to come closer to God and promote all virtues that would enhance peace, love, unity and progress of the country.

While wishing the good people of Enugu State and indeed all Nigerians a spiritually rewarding Easter celebration, Gov. Ugwuanyi urged them to reflect soberly and intensify prayers for God’s intervention and abiding grace, for the country and the world to fully overcome the rampaging Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic and other challenges.

He therefore reiterated his resolve to continue to serve with the fear of God, and to work assiduously towards the advancement of peace and development of Enugu State, for the wellbeing of the people.
