The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has responded to a statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as “political gamblers.”

Naija News reports that the Minister had claimed that the opposition figures had yet to convince Nigerians that they possessed the vision and proven developmental records needed to lead the country.

However, reacting in an interview with The Sun, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director said Wike should qualify as a political gambler, as he was working for both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “At the NDC, we don’t take people like Wike seriously. He is a proponent and an advocate of stomach infrastructure. In a civilised country where there is respect for the rule of law, Wike should be behind bars, or at the least, answering questions from the security agencies for his open and voluntary confessions to the crime of elections rigging.

“Wike, and not Obi, is the political gambler who is a member of two political parties, the APC, and a faction of the PDP concurrently.”

Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has warned Nigerians against repeating what he described as the mistake of voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in previous elections.

Lamido gave the warning while speaking at the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council, held at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State.

He urged Nigerians to critically assess the performance of previous PDP administrations and compare it with that of the current administration before making their choices in the 2027 general elections.


“I believe Nigerians have learnt from their mistakes. Therefore, they must critically examine the achievements of previous administrations under the PDP and compare them with those of the current administration before deciding who should lead them,” he said.


Lamido accused the APC-led administration of failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, saying the country and Jigawa State needed experienced and competent leaders to address their challenges.


He also criticised the APC administration, alleging that citizens in the state and across the country had suffered setbacks in healthcare, education and other critical sectors.

“Today, Jigawa is facing serious challenges in accessing quality healthcare. Hospitals lack adequate medical services and essential drugs, while the education sector continues to deteriorate,” he said.

Lamido described the PDP as a major force in Nigeria’s political history, noting that many political leaders began their careers under the party.


“Since 1999, almost all political parties have collapsed, leaving the PDP as the only surviving party to date,” he said.

“It has seen yesterday, Today and, by the grace of God, it will see tomorrow,” Lamido added.

He further assured party supporters that the PDP was prepared to campaign for its candidates at all levels, including the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

He pledged that the party would conduct peaceful campaigns without insults, intimidation or personal attacks, stressing that its major objective was to restore good governance and public confidence in leadership.

Soludo shouldn’t be engaging in this kind of lamentation over the South-East’s exclusion from the Gas Master Plan after being friends with Tinubu for over 20 years and even declaring total support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

So, when you see Peter Obi meeting ordinary Nigerians, speaking with them, listening to their concerns, and seeing firsthand how they live, you mistake leadership for content creation. You simply don’t know what it looks like!

You’re demanding a PCC and manifesto from Obi while conveniently dodging the question of what Tinubu has done with the mandate Nigerians gave him. The business of being president is serious, indeed, which is precisely why Nigerians deserve a president who engages with them, not one who appears distant from them and hides in a bunker

And calling Obi a jester won’t change the reality: meeting the people where they are, listening to their problems, and engaging them directly is not content creation; it is public engagement.
