I am and I can only speak for the state I am. I am definitely not for Trump and the human rights abuse. If you show your papers or ID, they will let you go. I definitely do not like that i have to walk around with my passport, I-20 and I-94 but that is America right now. The only time they were in my city was to take two Asylum seeker brothers who were charged for murder, the court later discovered they are undocumented and called ICE on them. If you are legal, no crimes, you have nothing to fear. Nothing ICE is doing right now that Ibadan SARS haven't done to me. This is the reality of America rn sir.

justwise:

Obviously you have not been paying attention about Trump ICE operations
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by OgbeniOptional(m): 5:15pm On Dec 05, 2025
They don't really mess with students or if you are legal. They know who they are looking for, it is best to just avoid crimes.

Jamesclooney:
I totally agree with you that they’ve give racists the permission structure to be explicitly racist/prejudiced. Just look at Farage’s pitiful response to the allegations from his school mates. They’re so brazen now.

For someone considering EB1/2, those points you made about Rupert Lowe & Nigel Farage, is it not worse with Trump and MAGA in the US?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by OgbeniOptional(m): 6:50am On Dec 05, 2025
The UK right now is not really worthy of any argument when it comes to immigration. I bet they don't even have data on how many legal residents and including their own citizens are moving out of the UK. 5 of us that I know bullshit their COS when the rumours of 10 years ILR came out and left for Australia, Canada and the US. People questioned my decision to leave NHS CoS for a Funded PhD in the US but I don't care. Look at the UK care sector very well, so many people who did their PhD in the UK in that sector, all because of COS, now what? I am sure they are still going to go to Africa or Asia to hunt again for Doctors, Nurses and low-paid labourers in a few years. Just that some of us, our dreams couldn't wait for 10 years(now 15 years proposal) or we risk getting stuck in the care sector (ask why even some people who later got the citizenship later got stuck in care). I see people saying “I'm just doing it for the passport”, Who told you that you will make it through that time? The other sad part is getting abused at work and in the community then having these politicians like Rupert and Farage validate them(now Labour and Tory join). If you trust your dreams enough, you are not really going to do what you don't like just cuz of a passport either for you or your children. Dare to dream, you really never know what is coming. If you are one of these “Boris waves” as they labelled us and you are not packaged into the UK, just find a way to a country that can validate your dreams. I really love living in the UK, but sadly my ambition and parents' struggles on that journey are gonna be wasted.

Hi all,

For someone on a health and social care visa, can I start my own business as a supplementary job? I know the 20-hour limtation will apply and has to be on the shortage occupation list.

Any ideas on supplementary jobs to boost income will be appreciated.

Thank you.
TravelRe: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by OgbeniOptional(m): 10:36pm On May 22, 2025
Thanks for your response. Please i also hope going like every three months for a week or two wont raise any red flag as i don't intend to stay in the USA asas i have my job elsewhere. Or do you think F2 is more appropriate?

Efetobore1980:
** It's goes to your choice but the above scenario can only work for the woman (the wife) as the principal applicant.

** Let's simulate that the wife (principal applicant) is applying for F1 visa with her daughter (as the F2) , and the husband is applying for B1/B2 (visitor) to attend a conference or negotiate a business contract in America then upon finalization he (the husband) will check on the family' (wife & daughter) in school , why not ? They can all apply together. 👍

I wish I could unread that clueless comment.

Goke7:
Are you aware that lot of folks who came into the uk then were also in the Canadian pool waiting for their ITA which was delayed due to Covid? Why are we lumping everyone together as if many were not initially qualified, do you have the data? Provide if you have and not base on assumptions. One thing I have observed is when there is a surge of immigrants, we begin to dismiss the entry criteria. Do you know the amount of Nigerians that have immigrated legally into the US in the last three years? Will you say the US too became porous with eb2, and 01 visas? Check the stats Nigerians were in the top 5-10. The increasing number of Nigerians attaining citizenship in Canada in the last five years decimates all these narratives of easier entry or porous borders nonsense
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by OgbeniOptional(m): 12:17am On May 18, 2025
You look down on your fellow citizens simply because you are probably in a better place regarding your career or life goals, and this attitude is unfortunately common among Nigerians. Before Canada imposed new restrictions on community colleges, individuals with third-class degrees were still able to find opportunities there. Having a third-class degree doesn’t necessarily mean you lack knowledge in your field of study, it is possible to supplement your qualifications with relevant work experience.

I can assure you that many Nigerians can successfully take and pass the IELTS, TOEFL, or CELPIP exams. It’s already challenging enough to face judgment as Nigerians from outsiders; belittling ourselves only makes the situation worse. Are you aware that many on care visas or PSWs have left the UK for the US, Canada, or Australia? Do you know how many are considering leaving?

Regarding Australia, its distant location and expensive tuition fees might deter many people from Africa from considering it a viable option.

When it comes to the USA, obtaining a visa often feels like a game of chance. I’ve seen individuals receive a US visa and wondered how they managed to do so.

I’m not suggesting that there haven’t been instances of abuse in the system, but I am certain that this issue isn’t limited to Nigerians; they are simply more vocal about it. The UK is not “far easier” to navigate; it is just more straightforward. You can do everything right with other countries and still be denied a visa, which is not the case for the UK.

Treadway:
but it's true.

The UK was super porous and super easy to enter, just about anyone who could arrange POF did...anyone. They didn't even need to actually have the money...third class sef enter🤣

The ratio of people that came in with a skilled work visa vs those who came with a student visa would be like ratio 1:100

Canada on the other hand only just introduced the tech, healthcare and other draws in 2023/2024, including the recent caregiver pilot which both Nigerians and UK based Nigerians who have those specific experiences/qualifications are now using and benefiting from. Prior to those updates/specific draws, they wouldn't have stood half a chance....cos they would have to be young, with masters and have high ielts and tef/tcf scores...How many of the folks who flooded the UK even wrote ordinary IELTS? Lol

Make we no dey fear to talk the simple truth jare. Dem no see Canada, US or Aussie before dem choose the 'far easier' UK
TravelRe: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by OgbeniOptional(m):
Is it advisable for both to attend visa appointment together or separately? B1/B2 spouse and F1 and F2(minor).

OyoTunjiUSA:
🤠

* F2 is created for F1-VISA holders , ie wife, children , house help etc, but the only student category who have being more favourable with F2 VISA applications is PhD, followed scantily by Msc.

1. If you are on PhD (especially) or Msc with full fundings , yes F2 will be favourable in this scenario. But if you have less than 100% of funds, your F2 VISA application will be based on your family ability to proof availability of funds for the F1 dependent (s) (F2).

2. Presently, B1/B2 is more favourable, and easier to secure than F2 VISA,
except if, the F2 VISA applicant is a minor, or teenager under adulthood age.

3. F2 visa holder in America is absolutely dependent on F1 visa holder, b/cos f2 visa holder (adult) is not permitted to work, and attend degree or credit award institutions, and 75% of the time, only the change of status of F1 VISA holders in the USA can also change the status of F2 visa holders.

4. B1/B2 VISA holder , who is visiting his or her F1 partner in the USA may decide to change VISA status outside the control of F1 VISA holder, he or she can look for work, process school admission etc, and process the necessary CHANGE OF VISA status request.

PS : B1/B2 wins. But it depends on your present situation.

This man is a joke. Why is ADC similar to APC? So that they can confuse the electorates to vote APC on the day of election and claim it was due to a technical glitchhuh..

In 2027, Nigerians will champion the Coalition movement, choose their own party and send this wuru-wuru government of Hunger & insecurity packing.

Correct and it shouldn't be just one voice, all these types of energy are what we need to fix Nigeria not just when a popular face was arrested. I read somewhere a man was fighting for people not to jump the queue with an airline and the f people he fought for couldn't fight for him when he was bounced from that same flight but the same people are probably the loudest on their individual social media page now.

Who is the only one speaking out against the killing going on in the country? VDM is not only speaking out he travelled to those villages last month to see the damage caused and give out money.

Don't get me wrong, VDM is a great guy that I admire and follow. I just wish people could be more vocal about other things or ordinary people as well. VDM can’t do it alone.

Goodenoch:
What protests or shouts or anything have you done in respect of the country's issues?

Tally them up and list them against what the fellow in question has, and you might see why people are agitated about what happened to him.

I don't follow the guy at all and have a long list of reservations about what and how he does things, but I do know that his advocacy has been helpful for many people.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by OgbeniOptional(m): 2:48am On May 05, 2025
I don’t understand how some people think in that country. What has GTB got to do with EFCC arresting someone illegally? Is GTB that stupid knowing how much damage it would do to them? Also, there is no protest or noise in unison about insecurity, none for the terrible economy, a Christian girl was murdered in the North sometime ago, there is no noise in unison but they can shout/protest when a hand touch someone with a name. It is just stupidity in my opinion.

Yeah. That route was abused. I am not surprised restrictions are being placed on the care visa. Got so bad that people are advertising dependent visa slots on WhatsApp.

Zahra29:
J
just to highlight that new labour market test rules coming into force from April 9 mean that unless an individual is already on a health and care visa, or they lost their sponsorship through the company's license being revoked, they will need to have been legally working for the care company for at least 3 months before they can be sponsored by the company (even if there is an immediate vacancy).

It will no longer be possible to switch directly from a student or graduate visa into a care visa without prior care experience at the intended sponsor.

[Applies to England only]
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by OgbeniOptional(m): 6:39am On Apr 02, 2025
The best decision of mine today as the UK is concerned is accepting my new reality asap after graduation and using my PSW to gain experience in care before getting into NHS which later sponsored me. While in PSW, I applied for jobs but it was always “We are sorry” or “We do not offer sponsorship for this role” until I got tired of it. The majority of my mates who use their PSW to work in some companies are being told they can't be sponsored because of new salary requirements or they lied to them they are trying to apply for sponsorship and later told them they are not applying again. As we speak, some are being scammed and still looking for a way out to remain in this country. Few who drive were lucky to get Dom care or living care. Few tried global talent visas and only one was successful. A friend was scammed £8,000 last February when desperation set in. It was at that point I realised I made the right choice. Now, I look at people who didn't even wait for PSW and switched to care visas immediately after graduation as smart people especially as most of them have family. I also feel if you are a couple, one person should have a leg in care job just for back up purpose unless you have a solid japa out of UK plan.

Another experience from a very close person to me is her employer(top firm) promised her sponsorship after the two years, the salary is way above this new threshold. They reimbursed her for the PSW. She found out she was 2-3 months pregnant after start date. By the time she came back from maternity leave, the sponsorship story changed form certain to uncertain. She wasn't sponsored.

Please, do whatever works for you. No age cap on when you can achieve your dreams unless you are planning to be a stripper 😀

dentalux:
Today, I just want to share with you what happens in the UK job market. People here should stop blaming people who decide to go for care visa without trying professional jobs.. The truth is the spirit of labour market test is still in place. My flatmate mate got a job within the civil service and resumed. When it came to the issue of sponsorship the Labour market test was applied on him. He was told he could not be sponsored and that the role is not a hard to fill role and could be sourced from the UK labour market. He showed me the letter which i read.. This is just to tell someone looking for sponsorship. Pray for direction what works for A may not work for B. even if the company has a license. .

They told my mom the same thing. I regret not letting her go pick it up in Lagos which is what she wanted and way cheaper. The logistics company is rubbish. Imagine if you have an elderly parent or even sick at the time of the delivery.

Hello gurus in the house. Please who has paid for VFS passport return recently?
I applied for my dad visit visa and the VFS have used GiG Logistics to send the passport and now they're texting him to come and pick up at the park.
Has anyone experienced this? I was honestly expecting an actual home delivery.
No choice than to go to the park now, but just need to know if it's the norm now.

They have perfected the art of gaming the benefit system. This is not sustainable as the country is broke as they keep saying. It’s alarming the number of people going into benefit monthly.

Not true. Had £3k in my acct when I sponsored my mom, she had 1m naira in her bank when we applied (my dad transferred 500k to her few days before application and it was explained in cover letter as travel support but there are loads of transactions from my dad to her for groceries and upkeep). she’s 50, she has a shop. We just keep everything real. The documents from her side are her passport, 2 months SOA, my birth certificate, our pictures when I was few days old till last time we were together. Then from my side are 3 months pay slip, 1 month SOA, tenancy agreement, work ID, Certificate of achievement from work, my driving license. Her budget is £1,100 for one month. Very simple and basic application. Cover letters are direct straight to the point and about have a page from both of us.

Please where can I make a complaint about this VFS delivery company? After making a payment of 41k, they dare to say my mom should come to get her passport at the state capital that they don't deliver to the address. Really?

Please nobody should say encourage made in Naija o, i remember DHL delivered my passport to my house few years ago for 11k or so and as recent as 2 years ago for another person to the same address.

Rice became expensive the moment they encourage Naija made rice. Nonsense. Why should foreign service be cheaper than what is made inside Naija.
