Good thanks for the clarification. My visa expires by January and I think May is not bad, she won’t really give up the masters now but will apply around April to be on a safer side.

Pardon the confusion. Must here is relative - it was used to convey the importance of the situation. I should have typed "should ideally" since this is advisory.

The dependant won't have access to "free" (subsidised) NHS services since IHS is not paid for visas that are 6 months or less. What if something happens and your dependant needs healthcare? The bill might be crippling and end up being more than the yearly IHS.

Also, coming too close to when the main applicant puts in an application for the graduate visa might raise flags as to the timing. You need to have lived together for some time before the application - this shows genuineness and doesn't come across as arranged. Coming few weeks to the visa end date might raise some doubts around being genuinely married except there are genuine reasons for this.

If you plan to arrive less than 6 months to the end of the main applicant's visa and for some reason, UKVI delays your application or other circumstances beyond your control happen, it means that you might not arrive before your partner has to put in an application for the graduate visa which may see you living without your partner for the better part of 2 years, in the absence of a work visa. If you're not in the UK as a dependant prior to the application, you won't be able to apply as a dependant.

Some HRs also don't have a strong grip of immigration rules and it might be difficult to get a job (if you want one as a dependant) because 1. You don't have a BRP (even with BRP, some of them still errorneously delay employment checks because it's not a situation that they are used to and 2. The short duration on the visa might deter some employers (the ones who will employ you will do so irrespective of the hurdles).

So to avoid stress and plenty "explanations" or last minute issues, better to join earlier.

Please note that each application is different and is subject to the ECO's discretion.

@mimilyrics. FOR DEPENDANTS: Your family must be in the UK as your dependant under the Student visa for them to qualify as your dependants under the Graduate visa route. This means that they must apply to join you more than 6 months to the end of your course since BRPs are not issued for any visa below 6 months.

Please I’d like you to clarify this for me, before 6 months current visa expires or end of course? There is 4 months extra after end of course. My partner will round up her masters program in Nigeria around May and that’s when she plans to apply. So I’m confused. Thanks

Imagine your wife that u married and living in naija happily and cuz there is change of environment knowing there’s not much you can do, a system where women are always right 90% of time then suddenly changed to something you least expected. This is not the world oldest, people live more than 140 sef in Osun state and some other parts of Nigeria.

It’s good to empower a woman but I think it’s high time men stop sacrificing their professional growth for that of a woman, always end in tears, talking from experience. I don’t know why m some women are like that though and it’s really challenging mentally for men.

Working 20 hours a week as a carer will fetch u nothing less than £700 a month in Europe, 20k is too small unless you want to send the person to early grave, both of them must be happy doing the job or better still find a family member and be paying his/her school fees and other needs. You should be looking at 60k per month in Nigeria if you really want someone to do the job in a good way.
