AlexBells: I appreciate your views now let’s face the arguments. I did not say AlaIgbo Republic, I’m referring to the traditional Republican democracy of the Igbo Nation. Now not all Igbos are a gerontocracy (Government by elders) I guess you are talking about Umunna which is almost common in all of AlaIgbo.
Now I’m from Ezikoba and we are gerontocracy. Our Onyishi is the traditional ruler, that can’t be said of Onitsha. Now let’s take a look of the Aro confederacy. They fought several wars to establish that confederation. The wars was mostly between Aro Igbo sub group and our neighbors in the present day Akwa/cross. You think we would just be democracy and don’t fight to protect it. There has always been people willing to invade others. People has to at all point resist outside rules or subjugation even among different Igbo groups.
Our democracy just like other civilization was paid for in full with blood. Just because it may not be recorded doesn’t mean that there was no resistance before it was widely accepted. Think about Ekumeku resistance by the Anioma block of Igbos fighting the British for over 30 years, if it wasn’t recent you will think we achieved our independence in a plater of gold. No there are price attached and if the need be, we would pay the price again and again to preserve or traditional Republican Democracy.
The Igbo world view of the value of life doesn’t extend to when someone or groups want to harm you, it is within your right in Igbo culture to defend even attack if the situation warrants it. All Aro wars was for control of trade. |

AlexBells: This post is beneath you, allow others celebrate their empire same way we celebrate our republic. It is their heritage. Every civilization was and still being built on blood and it is absolutely okay. You don’t know how many people who resisted or attacked our Republican AlaIgbo democracy and was eliminated to pave way for what we enjoy today. Of course Arochukwu dealt brutally with anybody encroaching into their trade routes. Their own was legitimate trade, not waging wars to install kings. |

BlackhatMentor: Apart from bini empire which still receives very little recognition due to their artifacts.
The rest of those so called empires were forest and jungles with some huts and cave houses made from palm leaves and bamboo stick Especially those fraudulent yoruba so called empires. |

BlackhatMentor: Na Forest and Bushes you the call empire?
What those people you mentioned up there had were forest and jungles chasing rats and bushdogs for breakfast and dinner.
With all their so called empires few white men came with a ship and parked all their kings and do with their women how the please.
Useless groups of archaic bushmen You de mind them? Make them no go work see food chop. Make Dem de deceive themselves. Igbos prepared ahead of them for trading empire. They never had foresight like igbos |

SadiqBabaSani: So only the igbos never had empires hence we all shouldn't celebrate empires. Those who were victims may choose not to celebrate the empires but the owners of fhe empires will celebrate them. Lol. Empires that fell yakata and now overtaken by capitalist economic empires of the Igbos. Can you build anything that last with proceeds of crime? |

Greyworld: Why would I shade a king?? I dont care about them since a governor can chase them from their Ancestral home. My point is the warrant chiefs statement, its not relevant. Thank you. Igbos believe in elected officers not inherited throne. We have advanced into democracy while they are still worshipping feudal kings |

ajailer: Reno ended up making fun of the ibos, this guy is just something else. We dey talk about Oba of Benin and Lagos here but he still find way rub salt inside dem ibo injury, who doesn't know that the "warrant chiefs" he is referring to here is the one the British colonialist created in the SE for lack of who they can hold accountable for the administration in that area.
Op sef, lack of sense dey worry am. Warrant chief became necessary as indirect rule failed woefully. Igbos had advanced democracy unlike primitive monarchist. How can someone praise monarchy? Why did monarchy collapse all over the world including Britain? |

Politics › Re: "Respect Oba Of Benin" - Omokri To Netizens by Ogene001: 10:24am On Nov 29, 2023 |
Padipadi: Not those ones alone o, it's time Yorubas tell Benin what the truth is and who influenced who past. Benin has so many Yoruba names, insignia etc that they can't trace it's meaning in Benin language, words, alphabets, sentence etc except in Yoruba language. The Olu of Warri that mad boy called Reno is taking about, what's the meaning of Olu? Isn't it Oluomo? What's the meaning of Olu in Warri and Benin language? Those Warri people too, are they not influenced by Yoruba cultures? No be the same culture wey colonised their Benins come spread from Benin to Warri? If Olu of Warri is the son of Oba of Benin who's a Yorubaman by blood, then Olu of Warri sef ba Yorubaman. So if I say Yorubas owned Warri, I use my ogogoro resembled the Oba wey komot his palace go talk trash for Lagos.
To Lagos matters, all insignia, language of all things in Lagos depict Yorubas. The issue of Benin there is explained below with evidences.
Lagos (Lagos de curamo) is a Portuguese word meaning lakes. As you all know, Lagos has many lakes. Also, in Yoruba language, the word Eko or Oko means Farm. Evidence: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Lagos#:~:text=Lagos%20means%20%22lakes%22%20in%20Portuguese,%22%20and%20later%20%22Lagos%22.
Ancient Lagos was used for farming by Olofin who was the first ruler of Lagos before Ashipa. Both Olofin and Ashipa are Yorubamen. The first Oba of Lagos is Ashipa a man from Awori tribe of Yorubas. He went to Benin as a war Chief cos he had dispute with Olofin, another Yoruba chief who was the ruler of Lagos at that time. Around this time, the Oba of Benin had trae routes from Benin to Lagos & probably saw it as an opportunity to annex Lagos cos it's a place where trade was booming at that time cos of it's nearness to the sea. It's to be noted that Ashipa had access to Benin palace via trade. So he was assisted with warriors who defeated Olofin. Ashipa, a Yorubaman became first king of Lagos and his descendants were kings till today.
So if the Oba of Benin that made recent talk must talk, he should only talk about the influence of Benin in Lagos Island which happens btw the fight of Ashipa and Olofin and not that Benins owned or founded Lagos.
Lastly, Lagos is Yorubaland. The language, culture, tradition and everything is Yoruba and it's foundation is Yoruba. However at various points, it has mixed with other tribes. Even in present day, Igbos, Hausas dominated some parts of the state and I hope in future, Hausas or Igbos won't come and lay some claims.
It's important to know history and understand history with common sense. For Yorubas, a pdf of their history can be gotten here. It's named History of Yorubas by Rev Samuel Johnson. It's the most concrete do far as at 2023 AD. Forgotten Books https://www.forgottenbooks.com › ...PDF History of the Yorubas Itshekiri and Aworis are yoruboid tribes that Benin subjugated |

The British prime minister is Indian, a Kenyan was American president for 8 solid years and no body knows the History, birth place or date, Parents or real name of Nigeria's current president. Igbos remain their nemesis |

sotall: Which of the King are you shading?
If Pre-colonial Nigeria had two or more Kings like the Oba of Benin, Nigeria wouldn't exist today and that would have been better for those known as Nigerians today.
Did anyone from present day Southeast Nigeria put up a fight against the British/colonialism?
None... Benin was defeated easily, it was Igbos that put the strongest resistance |

sreamsense: What is Omokri saying? Oba never respected himself by saying that kind of things in the public in the first place. He allowed igbo distorted history about Lagos to enter his head and came out to say that kind of things in the public. So, oba is also conveting Lagos to the extent of saying that kind of things out in this 21st century. Why saying that out in the first place since he knows such history can't achieve any meaninful result? Haha, Igbo again. No content without Igbo |

Exactly what we have been telling Ebola supporters. The junta can only fix any year for new election and Bazoum will not contest. All international pressure should be geared towards making the junta bring election date closer. |
