Politics / Re: EFCC Stops Dollar Transactions, Asks Embassies To Charge In Naira by Ogeneigbo1: 4:16pm On May 11
who made dollar the universally accepted currency for trading in any country?

is only in Africa that we see these things happen. even in some African countries they don't do it, they use their local currency.

in other countries of the world , they have their currency and they use it to trade locally.

yes, you can pay equivalent anywhere in the world. but you don't use another man's currency to trade in your own country ..

...and oil companies in Nigeria Should also remit Naira?
Politics / Re: EFCC Stops Dollar Transactions, Asks Embassies To Charge In Naira by Ogeneigbo1: 4:02pm On May 11
you have raised a very vital point. everyone is watching..

Nigerian Customs cannot be collecting duties and levies in dollars, its a big crime ..

but with this directive ,lets see what happens.

The truth is that much of this dollar that is scarce now is being withhold and hidden by some wicked set of people in Nigeria.( politicians inclusive) they are not spending the hidden dollar because there is no need to spend the excess dollar but they just prefer to hide it and wait for the worst to happen to their mother land.

there is no amount of transactions done by genuine people that will finish the reserve …the National reserve is being finished and emptied by people we all know.

Cmanforall:

I get your point.

But let's view it from this angle.
If foreigners (foreign companies) buy much from us (and pay in dollar), there would be more foreign 'currencies' to be used to cushion the effect of the dollar being paid by banks for your naira transactions abroad (with naira card), without much depletion of the foreign reserves.
Thus, Nigerian government should encourage and implement easier ways for exportation. That way, someone abroad can easily buy things from Nigeria, even online, and it will be delivered to them. The 'foreigner' pays in foreign currency, while the Nigerian gets paid in Naira

Cmanforall:

I think this your last point may have some negative effects on Nigeria's foreign reserve. Nevertheless, variations should be considered

I don't think so, Sir.

Anyway, I am not an economist nor a financial speculator, so these are honest views of an average Nigerian business man who has observed things for a long time in Nigerian economic space .

I strongly believe these points if implemented will go a long way in solving naira freefall wahala.
Politics / Re: EFCC Stops Dollar Transactions, Asks Embassies To Charge In Naira by Ogeneigbo1: 11:11am On May 11
This is a great move if sustained.

Anyone against this decision don't actually know what he or she wants for Nigeria.

Another one should be mandate banks to start serving their customers with foreign transaction needs without asking them to buy dollar from BDC .

Open up all blocked channels so that customers can pay equivalent with their naira cards.
Business / Re: What Do You Think Should Be Done To Appreciate Naira ? by Ogeneigbo1: 2:26pm On May 09
What I think Nigerian Government should do is to mandate all banks to start processing foreign transaction in naira ,then pay the equivalent to the receiver in receivers currency.

This will reduce the rush for physical dollar and people will no longer go to BDC to buy dollar since they know that their banks will serve them, this will reduce the pressure on naira too.

Be it school fees , payment of goods and services, let the bank deduct the equivalent which must be at CBN rate from sender's naira account simple.

CBN will now deal with bank directly on any FX matter instead of selling to the General bidders.

This how it is done all over the world. You handle see them sourcing for foreign currency to pay for their transaction, the transaction is done and equivalent transfered to the receiver.

This might not solve all the problems but it's a good step in the right direction.
Events / Re: My Dead Friend's Funeral Is Causing Problems by Ogeneigbo1: 11:04am On Apr 09
shortgun:
Tragically we lost a close friend to the cold hands of death who passed away in a ghastly motor accident.
He was in his late thirties to early forties, unmarried, no child, and a Christian from the North west.

In solidarity, we his friends, proposed to hold a formal wake keep for him at his Abuja residence and promptly began the preparation process. This included securing the services of a DJ and arranging refreshments for the gathering.

Certain members of his family objected to the idea of the wake keep, contending that it was inappropriate for us to engage in partying and funfair following the untimely passing of their loved one. They insisted we limit the gathering to just a public address system and a choir to sing, nothing more.

Some of our friends are threatening to hands-off and withdraw their involvement from everything about the funeral including not attending the burial and allow the family members do whatever that pleases them.
Others are of the opinion that we should ignore the family members and go ahead with our plans since we are going to be paying respect to our late friend and not members of his family.
What do you guys think?

You and your circle of friends must adhere strictly to the wishes and burial instructions from the family members no matter "how much" your circle of friends think they will contribute to the success of the burial, if you guys do otherwise, then the dead young man never had any friend or friends when he was alive.

I have been in Aba since Thursday last week, Aba Owerri road precisely. I am yet to see NEPA light here.. we have been on Generator ever since I came back.

Just this Morning around 11am , the light came on. I was happy. I pray it remains on . At least we will save money on fuel.

I am surprised some people say they have 24 hrs light .

Is there anything I don't know about this 24hrs light in Aba

I will go back and look at my options very well.

Thanks.

I know why I said don't mind him... Let me reserve that for my self.

99% of us coming here na money we find come...
But of recent the job is no longer as it use to be. A lot of student hardly see jobs as most recruiter prefer full time worker.

I know what I am saying, if u doubt, download telegram n search your school or at least 4 schools you know about here in UK and go through their comments from October to January.... Focus on the job discussion.

That's why I said please hold at least 80/95% and have a backup plan to pay the rest. More also have 4 to 5 months rent at hand. Please

UK humble a lot that came with high expectations last September

Thank you very much.

I will be back in due time . Let me weigh my options very well.

justwise:

Ok i asked you to do that so as to know what it takes to study in the UK, so far you are taking the right step asking necessary questions .

fullclub did not do what you are doing now, he came to the UK with little or no money, used untouchable loan to get a visa and now paying the price. He is bitter because i called him out when he started a thread lying to people about the cause of hardship in the UK.

Don't do what many Nigerians like fullclub did by cheating the system to get a visa then get to the UK trying to work to pay fees and rent.

If you have the money to study in the UK without relying on part time job to pay remaining fees and rent pls do.

Finally you don't need any agent to get admission or apply for visa, avoid agent by all means, all the info you need is here and if there is anything you need more input on pls ask.

Thank you.

To be fair to justwise, I think you are saying the same with him if my interpretation is correct.

He is coming indirect if you can read in between lines , but you are coming more direct.

I have read the first page of this thread like justwise advised, and I see where he is heading to.

I am still analysing the situation at hand.

But let me ask you. Judging by what is currently happening in UK, if I pay 80 to 90 % school fees, do you think I will break even, I used the word break even because,at last na money I dey find come UK.

fullclub:

If no dependant... My brother let's be honest
how much is your remaining fees?
How does your school spread her installment?
How much is exchange rate today?

Don't listen to justwise... We the current student on ground will give you real time data you need.

Full school fees or at least 80/90% and you should have a backup plan on how to pay the rest if no job comes within the next 4 months

Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Ogeneigbo1: 11:31am On Feb 24
Thank you for this question.

I can manage to pay at least 60 % of the tuition fees if I get a direct masters degree. Then pay the remaining 40% as I settle down.

justwise:
[b]

Glad you clarified that.

So yes i understand your concerns which is valid but let me ask you this...Can you afford to study in the UK and how much do toy have?
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Ogeneigbo1: 11:16am On Feb 24
I have not paid anything, the offer just came in , I came here to seek advice first before going further .

My fears are; 3 months pathway course for 8k plus, pay another fees assuming you fail, then if you pass , you still pay another fees so as to run the masters proper.

I have seen some pathway program for 9 months to 1year. At least I can settle down before I start thinking of paying another fees. Considering housing, feeding and work issues , it will be hard to combine these and at the same time trying to pass my pathway exams ,all in 3 months .

justwise:

Hmmm.

You can not pay school deposit even before you accept the offer, You accept the offer, pay school fees deposit then CAS is issued.

So how much did you pay for the deposit and which account did you pay it to?
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Ogeneigbo1: 10:59am On Feb 24
CAS will be issued if I accept the offer , submit necessary documents and pay the 50% tuition deposit.

justwise:

This more likely a scam.

Were you issued a CAS?
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Ogeneigbo1: 10:28am On Feb 24
It was done by an agent.

justwise:

Did you apply for this course your self or was it done by an agent?

Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Ogeneigbo1: 10:08am On Feb 24
Thank you.

1. According to Oxford international, it's part of the masters program but applicant must pass the final exam to be able to continue with master proper.

2. The fee is separate from the main masters degree fee.infact the offer letter stated that they can't disclose the masters degree fees now.

3. The Course is Logistics, Data Analytics and Supply Chain Management.

justwise:

1. Is this part of the masters program or do you have to apply for masters after the 3months pre-masters course?

2. Is this included in the whole tuition fees?

3. What masters course will you be studying?

I am not talking about the money for disbursement, I don't know anything about that one.

What I am talking about is the list where I saw names of people that travelled to kogi state with flight.

Out of station allowance in civil service is where my emphasis is.

nedekid:

I don't think hers was a mistake or lack of experience. How will you not know it is illegal to public money into your private staff account for alleged pending disbursement? What if the staff has slumped dead the next day, what will happen to the funds lodged in her account?
I will rather believe that money was paid in for "choppinson", why? It is a trend that has been going on under the last buhari administration which was then continued, assuming the new dispensation will ignore it as business as usual. Just check out how much this lady shared out to cronies including the tunji ojo fellow. Over 3b! Ojo got roughly 500m!
No wonder money is nothing to these people. Their kids school abroad and live large while other Nigerians have to do care jobs, janators, cleaners, security etc. Funny thing is that those same Nigerians suffering because of these people are the ones that will come on this forum to praise and defend them.
500 million paid to ojo, how many Nigerians will ever see 10% of that money in their life times?
Ok, you wish to share money to poor people, but you use 3b to pay portfolio, briefcase consultants without office or staff to verify social register list. How much will then remain to pay the so called poor beneficiaries?
Politics / Re: Osita Chidoka: The Betta Edu Saga Reveals Deep Systemic Issues by Ogeneigbo1: 10:13am On Jan 10
This issue has opened up what has been going on in the civil service commission and maybe other arms of government.

The truth is that this woman is a victim of already embedded system of corruption in Nigeria.

Her case will be of two edges sword.
1. I will not blame her because this has been in existence before she came into the system, she only acted along.
In government, civil / public servants are know to collect huge payments when they go on official assignment.
Most times they go to states that don't have airport but they are paid flight allowance.

Once it's an official duty outside the office, be it a 2km distance , they are paid all these allowances.

I have seen people give testimony in church because of this issues, how they benefited and how their boss refused to put their names among those travelling.

This is a serious issue that needs general attention.

2. I will blame her because knowing the government that brought you into service, she should have used wisdom. A lot of people are waiting for her to make mistakes starting from people that don't like the president to the women wing of APC that don't like her..
She had alot of battle , am sorry she didn't behave like one who is aware of these battles.

Finally, I will say our public system of government needs total over haul because that is where the real corruption is going on.

Their bigotry is second to none.

They hate anyone not from their tribe. Hence they killed leaders of other tribes in the 1966 coup.
