2027: Ex-PDP Lawmaker Cautions Stakeholders Against Going Into Merger

Titus Maduako Eleweke

A former Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon.George Okoye has cautioned the party's stakeholders against the party going into merger arrangement ahead of the 2027 general election.

He rather stated that the party current political misfortune is lack of credible leadership, and called on the stakeholders to enthrone a leadership that would work for the interest of the party, and, not those who rather pursue selfish ambition.

Hon Okoye who was a presidential aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance ,APGA, in 2003 general election who spoke with newsmen in Awka, Anambra State on Monday said that PDP is the foundation of democratic practice in Nigeria.

He insisted that PDP is the only opposition party in Nigeria and advised that it must not be allowed to fizzle out because of inordinate ambitions of some of the stakeholders.

He said that the party leadership should sit down and restructure the party for better Nigeria rather than jumping into the "so-call new mega party".

"The leadership of the party is complacent; they are just rigmaroling, looking for direction. A mega party cannot work in Nigeria today, the only thing the PDP needs now is to resolve its leadership challenges, the former Anambra state legislator said.

He cautioned that the country must not misconstrue a credible opposition to criticising the ruling government even when it is doing well.

He said : "If the government does the right thing commend it, and, criticise it when it does the wrong thing.
We have a president today in Nigeria, and, I don't think (President)Bola Ahmed Tinubu is bad. I am impressed by his performance so far, but, PDP can provide a better alternative.

"The problem with PDP is lack of credible leadership, and, once there is a credible leadership every other thing will fall in place.
PDP must democratise the process of who become its leaders. Why can't the leadership emerge through a normal process that is acceptable to all?
The PDP should work on its internal democracy and come out with a credible leadership" he advised.

Did you win you unit for PDP in the last elections? If you didn't then please kindly shut up 🙏.

Not just Tinubu, though I don't like his administration, but it all started with Buhari, the major oil and gas projects in Nigeria started and ended with Jonathan administration. Buhari concentrated more in oil exploration in north than developing already established oil reserves in the southern part of Nigeria.

And more IOC would shift operations to other countries make Tinubu and his Ikoyi economists focus on collecting taxes.

It's easy to say, if the Nigerian government did the same thing, I see you joining hundreds of thousands of people out in the streets protesting against the same thing.

Would you like your government to shut down ministries and eliminate tens of thousands of jobs including yours.?

Argentina people don't like what their government is doing, but you want your own government in Nigeria to do the same thing, which makes no sense.

Go rest abeg what do you want the suffering or for the economy to work, I don't understand so you prefer we continue suffering, that's just 15,000 compared to millions,.I believe if the government checks very well they would see more than 100k ghost workers.

People, I shared this story because of this comment I want to make here. The import of this story is to bring to our notice the pettiness of the British people.

They are picking on Airpeace because of the role the boss played during the visit of Harry and his wife Meghan Merkel to Nigeria.

Check it and you will see it clearly.

Was this letter before and after the visits?

The Air peace breach their safety system?

You may also be sounding very petty also if you take sides with Air peace doing the wrong thing, just like you all are taking sides with this administration that is drowning everyone

If they tell you that whoever won 2023 election would not have made any difference in our economy, call them liars!

The president of Argentina has massively reduced inflation from 3 digits to single digits in only 5 months!

Some moral lessons Nigerians can learn here
1. School is not scam
2. Tinubu is not a trained economist or accountant as he claimed during elections, he's either an intellectual imposter or most likely a huge fraud.
3. Economics is not rocket science, it is a real science that can only be practised by serious people if you want result.

Happy sunday

Now Fubara is building his own structure. Gently he’ll put them together in the local governments, state cabinet, SAs, SSAs, state house of assembly, etc. very soon members of the NASS will port to his camp. Wike too will not wait until 2027.

Rivers state may experience very bloody elections in 2027, as Wike will move mountains to prove himself.

It will not be bloody because the Ijaws would use their strength as the largest in Rivers State, nothing like bloody, Wike has lost his relevance in Rivers State

TABERNACLE ROAD, EROSION PROJECT: AKSG ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF A SECTION OF CALABAR / ITU ROAD

In fulfillment of Governor Umo Eno’s promise to deliver a standard road and flood control project at Tabernacle Road and its surrounding, the Akwa Ibom State Government is closing the Nelson Mandela axis of the Calabar - Itu expressway to vehicular movements from Monday, May 20.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga, in a statement regretted the decision which he said was necessary to enable the completion of the discharge drain of the road project which traverses Uyo and Itu local government areas.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government wishes to inform the general public that starting from Monday, May 20th, 2024, the Calabar - Itu dual carriageway will be closed to traffic at Calabar - Itu Highway by Park Road intersection and Calabar - Itu dual carriageway by Mandela Street intersection, till further notice.

“This is to pave way for the deep excavation work involved in the ongoing construction of 0.97km underground drainage system at Tabernacle road, which is advancing towards the discharge point at Calabar - Itu dual carriageway.

“In view of this, mini buses and light vehicles are, please, advised to use either Ikpa road through Uyo village road or Ikot Udoro Street through Enen Mkprong to Calabar - Itu highway, while heavy duty vehicles, including long buses coming in to Uyo from Cross River State, are to do so through Calabar - Itu - Ibiakpan Junction in Ikot Ekpene and those leaving Uyo to Cross River State, are to use Uyo - Ikot Ekpene Road - Ibiakpan Junction to link itu - Calabar highway.

“While soliciting maximum cooperation of the public, the State Ministry of Works and Fire Service, on behalf of the State Government, sincerely regrets inconveniences caused by this development”, the statement added.

What can you expect when local government chairmen are openly calling the governor a "mumu" man? The showdown on June 18th will be a critical test of Wike's power. With the fall of the LGA chairmen, Wike's influence will collapse completely. The assembly members are already gone, the commissioners have left, and the LGA chairmen are the last holdouts. Once they fall, Wike's structure in the state will be finished. Let's see how he can sustain his position with his ill-gotten wealth.
