Politics › SGF Asks Northerners To Wait For 2031 Presidency by ogododo(op): 10:06pm On Dec 08, 2024 |
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has said that those eyeing the presidency from the North in 2027 should wait till 2031.
He also has appealed to Nigerians to allow the bills to scale through required legislative processes stating that the bills were well envisioned for Nigerians.
Akume, who gave the admonition while featuring on the Politics on Sunday programme of Television Continental, anchored by Femi Akande, assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu has not lost goodwill among Nigerians as a result of tax reform bills and other strategic economic decisions taken within the last 17 months.
He specifically defended the Tax Reform Bills as well-envisioned laws that would take the country out of the woods when fully considered and passed by the National Assembly.
He said, “President Tinubu through the reform bills, wants to reposition the Nation’s economy as he earlier did with the removal of fuel subsidy and harmonization of the foreign exchange windows in the country.
“It is very easy to destroy but difficult to build, the various reforms being rolled out are meant to rebuild the destroyed Nigeria by previous administrations.
“Very soon, Nigerians will start seeing results from the reforms being carried out,” he added.
The SGF further admonished those eyeing the presidency of Nigeria to wait till 2031, when the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu, must have finished his second term.
Akume said, “President Tinubu, as a Southerner, should be allowed to have a second term, meaning that those eyeing the Presidency from the North in 2027 should look beyond that year by waiting till 2031.
“If it is the will of God for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to be President of Nigeria, even at the age of 90 years, he can get it, but he and other Northerners, eyeing the office now, should look beyond 2027.” https://punchng.com/sgf-asks-northerners-to-wait-for-2031-presidency/

Politics › Conversion Units At Port-harcourt Refinery Yet To Work, Can't Produce Gasoline, by ogododo(op): 12:58pm On Dec 07, 2024 |
The Conversion Units comprise of the catalytic crackers, hydrocrackers, or cokers and process the heavier fractions into higher-value products like gasoline, jet fuel, or diesel, top sources in the Refinery explained to SaharaReporters on Saturday. The Conversion Units of the Port-Harcourt Refinery of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) which are responsible for high-value products such as jet fuel and gasoline are not functional, despite the claims by the NNPCL Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari that the facility was back and running, SaharaReporters has gathered. The Conversion Units comprise of the catalytic crackers, hydrocrackers, or cokers and process the heavier fractions into higher-value products like gasoline, jet fuel, or diesel, top sources in the Refinery explained to SaharaReporters on Saturday. SaharaReporters had reported last week that the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) which is the primary component of the refinery is the only operational activity and Nigerians cannot yet get the actual values for which the Refinery was built. "Residual fuel oil from the CDU can be upgraded into lighter, more valuable products," the source said further. SaharaReporters had days ago reported that the Port-Harcourt refinery shut down operation "at the moment" with only its non-petroleum unit running which is the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, had also on Wednesday challenged the NNPCL GMD, Mele Kyari, asking him to explain to Nigerians how $2.9billion meant for the smooth takeoff of the country's three refineries was spent. Falana had also queried why the Port-Harcourt refinery was only blending 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day, while the 150,000bpd capacity is abandoned as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries. The fiery human rights lawyer spoke in Lagos State at the commissioning of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) Tower. Speaking with SaharaReporters, an authoritative source at the Refinery explained that Nigerians must know that the Conversion Units which are not working yet at the Refinery are at the core of its functions and what the government ought to give attention to. "Conversion units (like catalytic crackers, hydrocrackers, or cokers) process these heavier fractions into higher-value products like gasoline, jet fuel, or diesel. For example: Residual fuel oil from the CDU can be upgraded into lighter, more valuable products. "This is for Nigerians to know the politics they are playing. The refinery process is not well optimised without the conversion unit. Right now they want to sell the heavier ends to a Dubai company just for them to continue running. The heavier ends should have been converted to give you more useful lighter end products which will add value to the crude," the source revealed. "Before the current GMD (Kyari) came in, Warri and Port-Harcourt refineries were running the CDU plant along with some conversion unit before he then said we should shut down the plant in 2019. "His reason was that we were not adding value to the crude. What we are doing now running the Area 5 CDU is not different from what we were doing before 2019. Making noise about the CDU running does not make sense," the source revealed further. SaharaReporters had days ago reported that the Port-Harcourt refinery shut down operation "at the moment" with only its non-petroleum unit running which is the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). The CDU produces naphtha, kerosene and diesel but cannot produce the component which is needed for the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, top sources at the refinery had disclosed to SaharaReporters. SaharaReporters has been monitoring developments at the refinery since the NNPCL initially claimed the refinery was up and trucking out PMS to the Nigerian public. SaharaReporters had exclusively reported that only the old section of the Port-Harcourt refinery was working and it was blending "Crack C5 with the Naphtha" and trucking it out as Premium Motor Spirit, which some staff warned would have an "effect" on vehicles. Top sources had clarified that the NNPCL came up with the idea of blending Crack C5 with the Naphtha from the primary units because the secondary units are not ready yet. The sources had said that though blending is a standard practice and that PMS is a blend of products, “but the blended products are reformate. Gasoline is produced from the secondary units of the process plant. These secondary units are yet to be commissioned." Giving an update to SaharaReporters last Saturday, a top official said only the CDU was running at the moment and could turn out only naphtha, kerosene and diesel. "The Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) is still running but the operation of the depot is shut down at the moment. The CDU produces naphtha, diesel and Kerosene but cannot produce the component for the production of PMS," the source had revealed. "All these products cannot serve the masses as the production of these products are in small quantities even if the plant runs at 100% throughput. The processing plant of 150,000bpd capacity will commence operations in 2026; that is if money is made readily available to meet the timelines because at the moment the project has exceeded $2billion." SaharaReporters reported that NNPCL confirmed its exclusive reports that only the old Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State is working and that the refinery is not trucking out PMS but blended gasoline. The NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, in a statement had said that the old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, and that it produces Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), blended into 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol daily. https://saharareporters.com/2024/12/07/exclusive-conversion-units-port-harcourt-refinery-yet-work-cant-produce-gasoline-jet |

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, said the criminal justice system in Nigeria is weak, sick and needs a complete overhaul. The IGP explained that like a sick person who seeks medical help from a doctor, the nation’s criminal justice system also needs to be revived. He however urged Nigerians to stop blaming the police. Speaking at the 2024 Annual Lecture/Award Ceremony, organised by the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), Egbetokun said: “Police is not the only pillar or stakeholder in the criminal justice system in this country. We have challenges, we accept, but we will try our best to make sure we have a better system. “All of us must come together to help perfect criminal justice or justice system administration in Nigeria. If this system is working well; it is going to affect you, it is going to us.” The IGP was represented at the event by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP, Muyiwa Adejobi. Also speaking, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, opined that corruption remains one of the most persistent challenges affecting all sectors and institutions of the Nigerian society, undermining policy-decision making. Aliyu said: “Corruption remains one of the most persistent challenges affecting all sectors and institutions of the Nigerian society, undermines policy-decision making, resource mobilisation and utilisation, policy execution and service delivery. “Our experience at the ICPC in partnership with key stakeholders, has shown that tackling corruption effectively, across sectors and institutions, requires a proactive, multi-faceted approach. This approach should focus not only on enforcement but also on prevention, deterrence, and systems reform.” According to Aliyu, the Justice System Administration faces institutional, funding, infrastructural, human resources, and socio-cultural challenges. He added: “The widespread corruption within the justice system, including bribery, influence peddling and attitudinal challenges are more fundamental and daunting. I dare say that the justice sector remains a focal point of concern, particularly regarding bribery involving stakeholders in the justice sector, and despite limited public contact, judicial officials exhibit relatively high bribery prevalence, hence the need for targeted anti-corruption measures in this sector.” https://dailytrust.com/nigerias-justice-system-weak-sick-needs-help-igp/ |

Christianity Etc › Police Release Pastor Bolaji Idowu After "Intervention From Aso Rock" by ogododo(op): 12:09am On Dec 04, 2024 |
The Nigerian police have released the Lead Pastor of the Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), Bolaji Idowu, from its custody after big shots in the Aso Rock Villa, which is the seat of the Nigerian government and some clerics in the country "intervened", SaharaReporters has learnt.
SaharaReporters had reported that Pastor Idowu was arrested by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for alleged N1.5billion fraud.
It had also been reported that Idowu would spend the night in the custody of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigerian police over the allegations.
Meanwhile, in an update to SaharaReporters by top police sources late on Tuesday evening, it was revealed that the pastor was released after some forces in the Aso Rock Villa and some top pastors in the country mounted pressure on the Nigerian police.
"Pastor Bolaji was released late into the evening after big pastors and President Tinubu's Aso Villa intervened in the matter," one of the top police sources revealed to SaharaReporters.
"He has been asked to pay back the money traced to his account in two weeks," the authoritative source added.
SaharaReporters earlier exclusively reported that police operatives from the FCID were grilling Pastor Idowu, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
SaharaReporters had learnt from top police sources that Idowu, who is also popularly known as the "Next-Level Prayer Conference" pastor was arrested and is under probe for alleged real estate fraud and money laundering.
Giving an update to SaharaReporters, top police sources at the FCID had revealed that Pastor Idowu would be sleeping over in the police cell for the alleged crime.
"The case emanated from one of his pastors who duped several people in a real estate scheme," one of the top sources had revealed.
"The police investigation showed that several billions of naira in the scheme were traced first to Pastor Bolaji's church account and later to his personal account," the source had added.
Pastor Idowu started the church in December 2003.
Over the years, it has expanded locations across Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
According to the church website, the Harvesters church attracts over 70,000 worshippers both online and onsite.
Pastor Idowu's "Next Level Prayers" is a platform where participants offline and online are encouraged to build a prayer life. https://saharareporters.com/2024/12/03/breaking-nigerian-police-release-popular-pastor-bolaji-idowu-after-intervention-aso-rock

Politics › How Tax Reform Bills Can End Elite Financial Recklessness – Bishop Kukah by ogododo(op): 11:46am On Dec 03, 2024 |
The Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has expressed support for the controversial tax reform bills introduced by Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that it will put an end to the financial recklessness of the elites.
Since their submission to the National Assembly, the tax reform bills have faced criticism, with many claiming they unfairly target the North and will overburden Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Rev. Kukah highlighted Nigeria’s untapped potential and the need for better structures to harness its citizens’ energy and talents.
His words: “Nigeria is a very energetic country with people that are so eminently gifted and are roaring to soar at any time.
“However, our problem is the inability of states to create enough gatherings to contain the energy, vision, and competing narratives of their citizens. This lack of competitive gatherings often spills over into violence.
“But I hear you when you speak about all the issues identified. And I am excited about the issue of tax reform bills because, first, I know nothing about it. But I have started educating myself.
“Any form of reform at all must get this thoroughly dysfunctional country working again.
“So I am excited because hopefully, we can take the time to listen to the conversation about how to avoid and end this financial recklessness and the irony of Nigerians living by the seaside and washing their faces with saliva. The reforms should end the narrative of Nigerians living in a country that is so richly endowed but are spectators to the rascality and irresponsibility of the elites who continue to mismanage our resources.
“So I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of a very long journey of fiscal management and efficiency that can lead to the growth and development of the kind of country that we envision.”
Speaking further, Rev. Kukah advised that effective communication of the ongoing reforms is crucial, as Nigerians are grappling with high levels of poverty.
“What I can say is that this government must respond urgently to the issues of the day. They are issues of massive impoverishment in Nigeria. You can see the frustration on the faces of people, husbands, wives and children,” he said.
“I am convinced that this government has lofty ideas, but there is a total absence of a constructive strategy of engagement.
“This government needs communication strategies. The Nigerian government needs to convince Nigerians that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and encourage them to be a little patient.
“I see the conversation around local government autonomy, tax reform bills and others. But the government has to communicate with the people. So when people call themselves government spokespersons- it is not about insulting people, or thinking others can’t have different views. But their job is how the ideas of the government are communicated. We need to have an idea of the government reforms.
“We are happy to hear of the return of Port Harcourt Refinery. And the government needs to tell people what and what to expect at so-so time.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/12/how-tax-reform-bills-can-end-elite-financial-recklessness-bishop-kukah/

SaharaReporters learnt that the victim, Okediachi Emeka, lost his life after being hit with a gun by the police personnel. Some lawless operatives of the Nigerian police have tortured a man to death with their rifle in Asaba, the Delta State capital. SaharaReporters learnt that the victim, Okediachi Emeka, lost his life after being hit with a gun by the police personnel. The family of the deceased told SaharaReporters on on Saturday that the incident happened at the Ogbe-Osowe quarters in Asaba. His brother, Okediachi Desmond, narated the incident to SaharaReporters. “The Nigerian police hit his head with a gun, they killed my brother” he lamented. “On the 14th of November at about 12am to 1am, they were coming from Chronicles hotel, very close to Slot. They saw men who were not wearing uniform who stopped them but they didn’t stop because they thought they were kidnappers. "My brother, his friend and his girlfriend who were in the car ran to a spot where the police cornered them. They started shooting sporadically and started beating them. My brother’s girlfriend ran into her own house because where they ran to was close to her house.” “People who wanted to help them could not because of the sporadic shooting and because the police used wood on them. So no one could help them. “I didn’t know what happened till the next morning. I saw him with a bandaged head and when I asked him what happened, he told me that he was hit in the head with a gun by police officers. The officers after doing this took him to hospital and got his head bandaged. They took his phone too.. “They came back in the morning and asked him to do a video that he hit his head on the wall while running from the police and that’s how he injured himself. They also collected N150,000 from him." “When I heard, I was angry and followed him to the police headquarters in Asaba. When we got there he showed me the person that hit him on the head and during the melee, they took him upstairs and I stayed downstairs. "The police said we should be thankful that at least he was not killled and instead we should take him to hospital for treatment. “When we took him to hospital at some point, he wouldn’t talk well and we were told that he damaged his jaw when the police officers were beating him. At some point he complained of back pain and we tried treating him. “My mum called me after some days and said he was jerking, we took him to one hospital and they rejected him, it was at the second hospital that they pronounced him dead.” He stated that the claims that his brother hit his head on the wall was false. “I have pictures to show that he was hit in the head and he didn’t hit his head on the wall”. When contacted, the Delta State Police Spokesperson, Bright Edafe denied that Emeka was hit with a gun, stating that he hit his head on the wall. “On the 14th of November 2024 at about 0100 hours, the command received a distress call from a concerned citizen that there were some suspicious-looking persons around DBS road.” “Operatives of the command were detailed to move to the scene, and the operatives who were at that time along Nnebisi Road proceeded to the scene. On their way, they sighted a Venza SUV with reg. No GWK-646-FF but the occupants of the vehicle on noticing there were policemen zoomed off. “The operatives who were already acting on a distress call suspected the Venza Vehicle hence they went after them. They chased them to a compound along Nnebisi axis. The passengers alighted and were running in a bid to escape from the police. “The driver was arrested immediately while the deceased initially escaped. A few minutes later right there at the scene, the suspect came out with blood on his head and stated that he hit his head on a wall. The police swiftly took him to the hospital and paid for his medical bill. At about 0500 hours of the same date, the deceased was brought to the Police headquarters where statements were recorded and the deceased stated in his statement that he hit his head on a wall fence while running away from the police." He however noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state had ordered investigation into circumstances surrounding the incident: “The Commissioner of Police has however ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police State Criminal Investigation department to take over the case and ensure that a thorough investigation is carried out.” “The CP while condoling the family of the deceased assures them that no stone will be left unturned and that if the operatives are found culpable, they will be made to face the law.” There have been concerns over police brutality and extra-judicial activities which on a number of occasions have led to loss of lives. https://saharareporters.com/2024/11/30/lawless-nigerian-policemen-beat-delta-resident-death-extort-n150000-him-his-demise

Politics › Petrol Is Cheaper In Atlanta Than In Nigeria - Kperogi by ogododo(op): 8:13am On Nov 30, 2024 |
This week, as I refueled my car, I couldn’t help but be struck by the sharp contrast between petrol prices here in Metro Atlanta and in Nigeria.
In Metro Atlanta, fuel prices hover at $2.70 per gallon, which is equivalent to around 67 cents per liter. (Four liters make up a gallon.) Translating this into naira reveals a stark discrepancy.
At the current exchange rate of 1,647 naira to the dollar, a gallon of petrol in Atlanta equates to approximately 5,200 naira or 1,102 naira per liter. That’s astonishingly cheaper than Nigeria’s prevailing rate of around 1,300 naira per liter.
This disparity grows even more troubling in light of the wildly differential minimum wage standards between Nigeria and the United States. In the United States, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, which amounts to roughly $1,200 a month. Converted into naira, this comes to nearly 1,974,000 (one million, nine hundred and seventy-four thousand) naira.
Note that almost no one earns the minimum wage. Even the lowest remunerated workers here earn above the minimum wage. For example, my 16-year-old daughter who works at an entertainment restaurant chain on weekends earns $13 an hour.
Meanwhile, the federal minimum wage in Nigeria is a piddling 70,000 naira, or around $42.55. In other words, Nigerians with a minimum wage of 70,000 per month pay a higher rate at the pump than Atlantans with a minimum wage of 1.9 million naira per month.
When one presents these figures, defenders of past and present Nigerian regimes— and clueless, stonyhearted neoliberal evangelists— often argue that it’s fruitless to compare Nigeria with the United States, the world’s largest economy.
Yet, it’s worth noting that the U.S. does not indulge in the luxuries afforded to Nigeria’s ruling political elites. For instance, while American presidents pay for their own meals, including the meals of their guests, Nigeria allocates billions for the upkeep of its first families.
Such contrasts illustrate not merely economic differences but also the broader question of public accountability and fiscal priorities.
In much of the developed world, government subsidies for fuel are deemed vital, particularly where public transport systems are not robust. In the U.S., for example, state governments sometimes provide targeted subsidies to cushion residents from high fuel prices.
The lower fuel prices in America are facilitated by state subsidies aimed at counterbalancing a lack of comprehensive public transit options, as is the case in Western Europe.
For instance, the governor of Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp, recently decided to suspend fuel taxes in Georgia following Hurricane Helene, which temporarily reduced petrol prices to around $2.50 per gallon. This is typical all over the United States.
The Center for Investigative Reporting found that the true cost of petrol in the United States is $15 per gallon, that is, $3.75 per liter. Converted into naira, that would amount to 24,648.90 naira per gallon or 6,162.23 naira per liter. But the average pump price of petrol in the United States is $3.16 per gallon.
(Petrol prices can vary greatly within each state, with Texas having the lowest price of $2.669 per gallon and California the highest price at $4.68 per gallon. Note that California’s minimum wage is more than twice the federal minimum wage at $16.00 an hour.)
Americans don’t pay the actual cost of petrol because their state governments spend billions to subsidize their petrol consumption. According to the IMF, which has demonized fuel subsidies in the developing world, compelled governments to remove subsidies, and recruited scorn-worthy traitors to brainwash poor people into accepting that subsidies are bad for them, the United States spent $757 billion in fossil fuel subsidies in 2022 alone.
Globally, the IMF said, “subsidies surged to a record $7 trillion [in 2022] as governments supported consumers and businesses during the global spike in energy prices caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the economic recovery from the pandemic.” That represents 7 percent of global GDP.
U.S. state governments spent a significant sum on fuel subsidies, largely as part of measures to alleviate the impact of elevated energy costs. These measures included gas tax holidays, direct consumer grants, and discounts, aiming to shield residents from the global surge in fuel prices following supply disruptions caused by international events like the Ukraine crisis.
These interventions illustrate the fiscal lengths governments are willing to go to stabilize fuel costs for their citizens amid economic challenges.
Countries as diverse as Egypt and Indonesia have similarly leveraged fuel subsidies to maintain price stability, alleviate poverty, and stimulate their economies. These examples illuminate a fundamental principle that subsidies, when properly managed, can serve as powerful tools to bridge income disparities and invigorate economic growth.
But not in Nigeria. Nigerians face relentless economic strain despite residing in an oil-producing nation. It's a country where, somehow, people have been persuaded by a sophisticated mob of well-compensated spin doctors that exorbitant fuel prices are an unavoidable reality to which they must resign themselves.
For a resource-rich nation, which is also among the poorest globally, this is a bitter, disconcerting irony.
Those who denounce subsidies as inefficacious or detrimental often betray a limited understanding of their societal role, or worse, they may advocate for policies that consolidate wealth at the top.
In societies grappling with inequality, subsidies can mean the difference between bare survival and a modest but dignified life for millions.
To disparage such measures, particularly in a nation with profound economic inequalities, is to endorse a vision of society that is untenably divided—and to invite criticism that should rightly be directed not only toward them but, if you’ll pardon the expression, toward the legacy of those who espouse such values.
It is a grave irony, and a deeply unjust one, that the people of Nigeria — a nation abundantly blessed with oil wealth — must endure petrol prices that surpass those of Atlanta, a city in one of the world's richest nations. This, while the average Nigerian subsists on a minimum wage of approximately $43 a month, a pittance that could scarcely fill a tank, let alone sustain a family.
The removal of petrol subsidies is not merely an economic policy; it is a sentence handed down to the already struggling, forcing countless Nigerians to choose between transportation, sustenance, and survival. The ripple effects are evident in unchecked inflation spirals, faltering businesses, and tragic loss of lives in the wake of avoidable hardship.
To govern is to protect, to prioritize the well-being of the many over the convenience of the few. To abandon subsidies under the guise of fiscal responsibility while the vulnerable teeter on the edge of despair is neither responsible nor just. It is, instead, an abdication of moral duty.
President Tinubu should restore the subsidies minus the corruption, not as a concession, but as an obligation to the people he is obligated to serve. To do so is not to admit defeat but to affirm humanity, to wield governance as a tool of compassion rather than austerity.
After all, what use is a nation's wealth if it is not deployed in the service of its citizens? Let Nigeria's oil be a blessing once more, not a bitter reminder of inequalities entrenched and lives disregarded. https://www.farooqkperogi.com/2024/11/petrol-is-cheaper-in-atlanta-than-in

Crime › FBI Arrests Oluyomi Omobolanle Bombata ‘Bobo Chicago’ Over $2.8 Million Fraud by ogododo(op): 12:32pm On Nov 28, 2024 |
The U.S. FBI last week arrested notorious fraudster Oluyomi Omobolanle Bombata alias Bobo Chicago for allegedly scamming several companies and individuals of monies going up to $2.8 million.
Bobo Chicago, also known as ‘Bola Flexx’ due to his extravagant lifestyle, was arrested on November 20 in Illinois, Chicago based on an arrest warrant issued in Oklahoma following several criminal complaints filed against him and corroborating an investigation that deemed his activities suspicious.
Bobo Chicago, 25, was said to have terrorised Nigerians living in the Houston metro area before fleeing to Chicago to take up residency.
From Chicago, he was transferred to Oklahoma, where he allegedly committed the fraud and faced a five-count charge of criminal consequences, which the FBI listed as wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to commit money laundering and unlawful monetary transactions, committed between June 2023 and October 2023.
His co-conspirator was also being held in custody by law enforcement agents.
Federal agents already identified $2.8 million that Bobo Chicago collected by hacking into multiple companies and individual accounts located in the Eastern District of Oklahoma jurisdiction.
The agents further found that he transferred over $300,000 of alleged fraudulent funds to a popular liquor store in the U.S., implicating the store owner.
Judge Beth Jantz of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago signed paperwork for him to be transferred to Oklahoma to face charges.
Bobo Chicago was assigned a public defender after claiming he had no financial resources to fight the case on his own, a move that suggests he would rather do time than spend a fortune to argue his innocence.
His arrest adds to a list of Nigerians languishing in jail as convicted criminals or facing criminal charges.
FBI has tracked down dozens of notorious Nigerian fraudsters, including Hushpuppi and Mr Woodberry, serving jail terms in Fort Dix correctional facility for scamming millions of dollars from U.S. companies.
Arrested in June 2020 in Dubai and extradited to the U.S. to defend himself against Internet scam charges, Hushpuppi was convicted and sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2022 by United States District Judge Otis D. Wright II.
Judge Robert Gettleman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago convicted and sentenced Mr Woodberry to eight years and three months in jail over one count of fraud in July 2023.
He was handed a lighter sentence that shaved off seven other counts in a plea bargain.
Bidemi Rufai, a convicted felon and associate of Ogun governor Dapo Abiodun, was the first to be released earlier this month as reported by Peoples Gazette. https://gazettengr.com/fbi-arrests-notorious-fraudster-bola-bobo-chicago-over-2-8-million-business-email-ramp-money-laundering/

Politics › NNPC, Customs, FIRS Exceed Revenue Targets, Rake In ₦37 Trillion by ogododo(op): 11:44pm On Nov 25, 2024 |
The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS; Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, and Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, have all exceeded their revenue targets.
They raked in a combined revenue of N36.952 trillion, which is way above the target for the 2024 fiscal year.
However, the Federal Government insisted that “borrowing is still needed for proper funding of the budget despite increased revenues made by some agencies“.
These facts emerged during an interactive session Federal Government’s revenue generating agencies had with the Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) led National Assembly’s joint Committees on Finance, Budget and National Planning on 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Frame Work, MTEF, and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP, today.
At the one-day session that lasted over four hours in Room 231, Senate wing, the revenue-generating agencies made their separate presentations on 2024 budget performance and revenue projections for N49.7 trillion 2025 budget.
Customs In his presentation before the Committees, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Bashir Adeniyi, disclosed that by 30th of September this year, Customs had raked in N5.352 trillion.
This was above N5.09 trillion targeted for the entire 2024 fiscal year.
He said that N6.3 trillion is targeted as projected revenue for 2025. He said a 10% increase would be the revenue target for 2026, and additional 10% increase for 2027 fiscal year.
NNPC On his part, the Group Chief Executive Officer, GCEO, of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari, noted that the Company exceeded the N12.3 trillion revenue projected for 2024 by already raking in N13.1trillion.
Reflecting on Lagos 2025 Budget of Sustainability He said: “For the 2025 fiscal year, N23.7 trillion is projected by NNPCL to be remitted into the federation account.”
FIRS Also in his presentation, Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, informed the joint committees that FIRS had surpassed targeted revenues across the various tax components.
He said that on Company Income Tax, N4 trillion was targeted, but N5.7 trillion has been realised.
On Education tax, while N70 billion was targeted, a total of N1.5 trillion has been realised.
He said: “All in all, out of N19.4 trillion targeted for 2024 fiscal year, N18.5 trillion was realised as at the end of September.
“This clearly shows that the target will be far exceeded by the end of the year.”
Why is FG still borrowing- Senate At the end of their presentations, members of the Committees took them up on why the Federal Government is still seeking for foreign loans despite the high increase of internally generated revenues.
Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP Kebbi Central) was the first to ask: “What is the Federal Government doing with excess revenues generated by the various agencies in view of its unending request for foreign loan approval?”
In his response, the FIRS boss noted that loans being requested by the executive were already part of the appropriation act.
He said: “Borrowing is part of what have been approved by the National Assembly for the Federal Government, meaning that the executive borrows based on approval of the legislature.
“The fact that we meet revenue targets, and even surpassed them as revenue generating agencies, does not mean that the borrowing component of an appropriation law, passed by the National Assembly should not be activated.”
Immigration flounders However, the Immigration Service of Nigeria ran into troubled waters at the interactive session over highly lopsided Private Public Partnership, PPP, arrangements on passport production, which gave consultancy firm 70% of proceeds and government 30%.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sani Musa ordered Immigration to present all the documents on the unacceptable PPP arrangement to the committee before the end of the week.
He said: “The so-called PPP arrangement must be reviewed or cancelled because Nigeria and Nigerians are seriously being short-changed.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/11/nnpc-customs-firs-exceed-revenue-targets-rake-in-n37trn/amp/

Health › Men Lacking Morning Erection Need Medical Examination, Say Urologists by ogododo(op): 8:51am On Nov 24, 2024 |
Male reproductive health experts have urged men to take their sexual health seriously by seeking medical evaluation if they are not experiencing morning erections, a common and natural occurrence in healthy men.
The urologists stated that men experiencing persistent erectile issues or concerns should consult a healthcare professional for personalised evaluation and guidance.
Speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise, the physicians advised men not having morning erections to carry out a comprehensive health assessment, including hormone testing, semen analysis, and lifestyle evaluations, to determine the underlying causes which may be erectile dysfunction or infertility.
According to Healthline, morning erections, a natural occurrence in most men, are often seen as a sign of healthy sexual function. They are typically caused by increased blood flow and hormonal fluctuations during the rapid eye movement (REM) phase of sleep.
The health website, however, noted that a notable number of men have reported experiencing a lack of morning erections, raising concerns about potential fertility or sexual health problems.
While some experts suggested that the absence of morning erection could be linked to underlying health issues, including infertility, others argued that it is not a reliable indicator of reproductive health.
A consultant urologist, Dr Emmanuel Eze stated that the body’s ability to have regular morning erections may be a reflection of broader reproductive health.
The physician stressed that the absence of morning erections could signal problems with hormone levels, such as low testosterone, or vascular health, which could affect overall erectile function and, in some cases, fertility.
Eze emphasised that morning erection is a natural occurrence during the REM sleep stage, typically happening 3-5 times per night.
The physician explained that the absence of morning erections could suggest issues such as erectile dysfunction, low testosterone levels, or underlying cardiovascular conditions.
According to him, it is normal for men to experience morning erections three to five times each night. These erections are typically spontaneous and occur without sexual arousal. The process is part of the body’s natural hormonal fluctuations and is linked to the functioning of the nervous system and blood flow.
Eze explained that these spontaneous erections during sleep are crucial in maintaining healthy erectile function and, by extension, overall reproductive health.
He emphasised that they are a natural and healthy sign of the body’s ability to achieve and maintain erections, which are important for male fertility.
“While occasional changes in morning erections are normal as men age, a persistent lack of them could point to potential health problems such as erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, or even more serious conditions like heart disease. Men mustn’t ignore these early warning signs.
“A comprehensive evaluation can help pinpoint the cause and allow for timely treatment options, whether it’s lifestyle changes, therapy, or medications,” Eze added.
Speaking further, the urologist elaborated that the absence of morning erections could be an indication of various medical conditions that might impact sexual and reproductive health.
“Erectile dysfunction is often the result of an imbalance in the body’s ability to deliver blood to the penis. If morning erections are absent, it could be a reflection of poor blood flow or nerve function, which are key contributors to erectile dysfunction,” Eze explained.
In addition to erectile dysfunction, the male reproductive expert noted that the absence of morning erections may also be linked to low testosterone levels.
He added, “Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, essential for sexual function, mood regulation, and the production of sperm. A decline in testosterone can lead to a reduced frequency of morning erections. It can also cause a range of other symptoms, such as fatigue, decreased libido, and loss of muscle mass. While a decrease in testosterone levels is a natural part of aging, significant drops in testosterone could signal more serious health concerns.”
Eze also underscored the connection between erectile function and male fertility, stressing that problems with achieving or maintaining an erection could affect a man’s ability to conceive.
He explained that erectile function plays a critical role in sperm delivery, and when erectile issues arise, they could make it more difficult to engage in regular sexual activity, which could impact fertility.
“There is a direct connection between erectile function and male fertility. If a man is consistently not experiencing morning erections, it could indicate that there’s an issue with his reproductive system, whether it’s a problem with his hormones, blood vessels, or nerve function,” he said.
He pointed out that while the absence of morning erections does not automatically equate to infertility, it could signal underlying problems that should be addressed.
Eze advised that men who notice a persistent absence of morning erections should consult a urologist for an evaluation of their reproductive and sexual health.
He explained that poor blood circulation, which is often associated with heart disease or high blood pressure, can directly affect the ability to achieve erections.
“The vessels that supply blood to the penis are small and delicate, and when these vessels are compromised due to poor cardiovascular health, it can result in a decreased ability to have spontaneous erections.
“Erectile dysfunction is frequently one of the early signs of cardiovascular problems. If a man is not having morning erections, it could be a sign that his vascular health is not in optimal condition. It’s essential to recognise this as a potential red flag and seek medical advice before the issue becomes more severe,” the urologist warned.
However, a Senior Registrar in Urology at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Akpo Edewor, argued that the lack of a morning erection is not necessarily an indication of serious health concerns, as many people assume.
Edewor emphasised that the absence of morning erections is not an automatic sign of erectile dysfunction or serious sexual health problems.
He explained, “Morning erections should not be viewed as the definitive measure of sexual health. It is important to understand that men can still maintain erectile function despite not having morning erections. This does not immediately indicate erectile dysfunction.”
The urologist stressed that various factors, such as sleep patterns, stress, or even the time a man wakes up, can influence whether or not he experiences a morning erection.
He further clarified that a key component in assessing erectile health is the ability to achieve an erection in response to sexual stimuli.
“If a man can still attain an erection when engaging with a partner, even without morning erections, this indicates that his erectile function is likely intact,” he stated.
Erectile dysfunction, according to Edewor, is more complex than just the absence of morning erections. It is a condition where a man consistently struggles to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse.
He said various health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and even the medications used to treat these conditions, could contribute to erectile dysfunction. https://punchng.com/men-lacking-morning-erection-need-medical-examination-say-urologists/
