National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has approved the promotion of 2,788 of its personnel and also redeployed 406 others.

The promotion exercise as well as the redeployment cut across both Narcotic Agent and Narcotic Officer Cadres.

The spokesman of the agency, Jonah Achema, on Monday said that a total of 290 Chief Superintendent Officers have been promoted to Assistant Commanders of Narcotics; 529 Superintendent of Narcotics were moved to Chief Superintendent of Narcotics; and 673 Deputy Superintendent of Narcotics have been promoted to Superintendent of Narcotics.

“Others promoted are 115 Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics now promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Narcotics; while 662 Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics II have now moved to rank of Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics I. “Others within the rank and file promoted are 519 in number. This includes those promoted on account of additional qualification, special promotion and upgrading,” he said.

The Chairman/Chief Exective, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah, (rtd.) urged the officers and men to see their promotion as a call to higher service and to continue to distinguish themselves. “The exercise is expected to spur the benefitting officers and men to put in their best in the service of the Agency and the nation,” Abdallah said. He noted that the exercise was commenced in phases and that this final phase has succeeded in normalizing the structural disjointedness of the workforce. “The promotion exercise followed the completion of the process set in motion by the Agency to address the lingering backlog of promotion in the Agency. “In the process, the Agency interfaced with the Office of the Head of Service which approved a new Scheme of Service for the Agency in line with 2019 Establishment Rules. “The Scheme of Service, geared towards professionalizing the Agency has made provision for a new ranking structure of three (3) cadres which are: Narcotic Assistant Cadre, Narcotic Agent Cadre and superintendent of Narcotic Cadre.

Earlier, six officers of the rank of Commander of Narcotics (CN) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commander General of Narcotics (ACGN). The Agency equally elevated a total of 1,311 staff, made up 1,291 staff within the rank and file and 20 others converted to officer cadre in the first phase of the promotion exercise.

He said the redeployment affected 24 command officers, 198 superintendent cadre officers and 114 other ranks. He said the development will boost morale of officers and men who must have overstayed in one duty post leading to declining productivity and exposure to hazards.

On a serious note, like someone wrote in one other thread, planes should have an emergency parachute that spend it in airport under distress. And this parachute should be capable of manual operation from the cockpit.

70% of the earth surface is of water while land covers just 30%. Where will the parachute take you to? I just hope that the parachute doesn't sink you into the Ocean or Sea. Geographers can relate... lol!

Politics / Ambode Calls For Realistic Salary Demand by Ogunleke48: 9:27am On May 02, 2018
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday urged the labour unions to be realistic and reasonable in their demands for salary increase for workers.

The governor , who spoke during the 2018 Workers’ Day celebration at the Agege Stadium, also commended the unions for the industrial harmony he said his administration had been enjoying in the state since he assumed office .
Ambode , who noted that workers were entitled to their salaries , said the organised labour must, however , work on realistic and reasonable goals while rightly insisting on just entitlements for its members.

Ambode said, “ There will always be a place for agitations and struggle and it is a fact that only those who dare to struggle may win. Yet , these agitations and struggles must be focused on realistic and reasonable goals that are pursued in the appreciation of the competing interests that government has to continually balance . ”
He said his administration had partnered the leaders of the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress and would continue to consider all the requests of labour as “ we work together for the peace , progress and prosperity of all workers in Lagos State.”

Ambode urged the labour unions to continue to show understanding, just as he called on all the stakeholders in the management of the nation’ s economy to redouble their efforts and continue to explore innovative means of addressing the economic challenges to make life meaningful for Nigerian workers , who “ are the development and growth partners of the government.”

On the theme of the Workers’ Day celebration, ‘ Labour Movement in National Development: Dare to Struggle , Dare to Win , ’ the governor said it was not only apt , but timely.
Ambode added that labour unions should not only seek what workers could get from the government but also work on how workers could support the government in improving lives.
He said as the nation moved towards another election year, labour movement should see itself as a constructive partner of the government in ensuring peace and harmony before , during, and after the general election.
The governor urged the labour unions to mobilise their members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and use them during the elections.

Ambode pointed out that his administration had never had any dispute with the organised labour.
He stated that labour unions in Lagos State had been responsible and dogged in their protection of workers ’ interest.
The governor added that it was not in doubt that the developmental strides his administration had recorded were due to the cooperation of workers , both in the public and private sectors.

The Chairman , Nigeria Labour Congress, Lagos State Council , Idowu Adelakun, commended the Lagos State Government for prompt payment of salaries , infrastructural development and proposed pension review .
Also, the Chairman , Trade Union Congress, Lagos State Council , Francis Ogunremi, lauded Ambode ’ s achievements in the area of security, transport, road projects, among others.

Education / Why The Long Duration Of Ph.d Degree In Nigeria? by Ogunleke48: 9:29pm On Apr 18, 2018
This question has got me thinking so much... why is Ph.D degree easier to get in abroad than in Nigeria?

Is it that post graduate students are performing below expected or there are factors causing the elongation of the duration of the stated programme?

Ph.D degree is for how many years? Also, which university can you recommend when it comes to non-delay in bagging of a doctorate degree i.e minimal duration?

Just do your best. What will be will be. If God wants you there u will be there. I've seen istants were Generals sons have been denied admissions into NDA due to some medical grounds. The one that shocked me was when a Col son was disqualified in 62RC because its medical test shows HIV positive. After the admission. the boy went to a Hospital and carried out the test and was tested nagative. Maybe Military wasnt his path. The boy just finished his masters from UK. My own story. I grew up wanting to become a medical doctor. My parents supportted it. At young age I started holding animals like birds and rats and carrying out surgery on them. Then in my secondary school I have a friend. He was just like this Ugo4u guy. His passion for the military was A1. He told us he wants to become a General. We started calling him General. And I was called Doc. When we finished school he called me that he is picking the NDA form. I wished him luck. While me I was waiting for jamb so my dream of becoming a medical doc can come through. The day he went to the barracks to sign his form, I excorted him there. He keeps pushing me to get the NDA and tellin me how respectful I will be if I become a military officer I told him I don't want to. I hate fight and guns. He keep pushing me and one week just to get his problem off my neck I purchased the form. We wrote the exams and we all made it to the board. I still didn't like it. He forced me to com to the AFSB interview. We all went. To cut the long story short. The guy ended up becoming a medical stuendt at ABU while I ended up in his.
Our ways is not God ways. Just do your best and let God do the rest. God knows what's best for us all.

PS: I am not saying I got it through merit o. Some people helped my ass. But it still wouldnt hav been possible if God didn't approve it.

PPS; Work hard as if you becoming a military officer depends on hard work.
Pray as if you becoming a military officer depends on prayers.
Make connections as if you becoming a military officer depends on connection.

However, a 5 man list of recommended candidates from each state has been forwarded to the headquarters as of today by DSSC25 selection board

Gentlemen, pray hard.

Pls do you mean that 5 candidates will be chosen from each state on merit or they can decide to pick less than that (i.e 3 or 4) out of the 5 recommended candidates? pls shed more light on this...
