Politics / Mbaka: Protesting Youths Vandalise Enugu Catholic Bishop’s Residence by ojikeebere12: 11:16pm On May 05, 2021
Protesting youths on Wednesday vandalised the official residence of the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Callistus Onaga in protest of the alleged arrest of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the irate youths suspected to be members of the Adoration Ministry and numbering over 1,000 stormed the residence of the Bishop located at Igboeze Street, Independence Layout

Mbaka is the founder and director of the popular Adoration Ministries, Enugu and Parish Priest, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Emene.

One of the protesters told NAN anonymously that they wanted the Bishop to clarify the whereabouts of Mbaka who had not been seen since Tuesday.

The protesters, who were chanting anti-Bishop Onaga songs asked him to resign.

They alleged that Onaga invited him on Sunday for a meeting where he handed him over to the security officers.

Mrs Stella Nduka alleged that the man of God was invited for a meeting three days ago by his bishop and since then no one had seen him.

“We are going to Bishop Court at Independence Layout to demand for his immediate release from his eminence.

“He will explain to us where he kept him since Sunday and he cannot betray our daddy (Mbaka); he cannot be used to arrest him,” she said.

Another member of the ministry, Kenneth Uzoma complained that the members waited for the priest to hold its service early hours of Wednesday but he did not show up.

“This raised questions and suspicions that his rumoured missing was true.

“We waited and he did not show up, so we decided to protest at the bishop’s court to demand for his release.

“We were told that his phone numbers were ringing without answering.

“We are angry over everything and will not go until they release him to us,” he said.

NAN reports also that adoration members are protesting at different parts of the state demanding for his release.

There was a heavy presence of military men at the bishop’s court trying to curtail the mammoth crowd that besieged the court to ensure that lives and property are not lost.

Efforts to reach the Director, Communication, Catholic Diocese, Enugu, Rev. Fr Benjamin Achi and the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe failed as they refused to pick their calls.

Politics / I Took Three Contractors To Buhari, Mbaka Admits by ojikeebere12: 12:18pm On May 03, 2021
The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, says he led three contractors to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), with a view to proffer solutions to the security challenges in the country.

Mbaka stated this in reaction to the accusation by the Presidency that he called for the resignation of Buhari because of the General’s refusal to grant his contract request.

Mbaka, who supported the President during the 2015 and 2019 elections, had on Wednesday during his midweek ministration made a U-turn, asking Buhari to resign or be impeached for not doing enough to tackle widespread insecurity in the country.

But the Presidency opened a can of worms thereafter, saying Mbaka has suddenly become a critic because Buhari refused to offer contracts to his allies.

Reacting to the accusation, Mbaka admitted that he led three security experts to the President to proffer solutions to the insecurity ravaging the country even as he said that those people were not known to him.

The cleric said, “Yes, I led three security experts to the Presidency who offered to help salvage the security situation in Nigeria.

“I don’t know them, but they came to Enugu and pleaded for me to link them to government because of the level of insecurity and how Nigeria has been moving oil outside the country. These are the three people they rejected their offer.”

He further said, “I am happy that the truth was hitting them. We are not afraid of them. Buhari cannot do it again; health and age are not on his side. We need a stronger and an experienced goalkeeper in a time like this. If they want to put it that it was because of contract, let them come and build the highest university here and begin to mess up, I will still speak.”

Politics / President Buhari Is Stingy And Ungrateful - Mbaka (Throwback Video) by ojikeebere12: 2:36am On May 02, 2021
A 2018 video showing Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Fr Ejike Mbaka, attacking the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for being stingy and unwilling to make donations to his church has gone viral on Twitter.

Mbaka had earlier in the week declared that God had withdrawn his support for Buhari and even blessed the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, whose organisation has been designated a terrorist network by the Federal Government.

However, on Friday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that Mbaka’s recent criticisms of Buhari were based on the refusal of the President to award him some contracts.

Amid the raging controversy, a video posted on Twitter by @RBiakpara shows Mbaka accusing Buhari of failing to make donations to his church despite the church supporting his ambition in 2015.

“If you know what this ministry is passing through because we are supporting Buhari. And the attackers are waiting for me to say I am supporting Buhari again and the attack will start and Buhari will remain in Aso Rock, being somebody who cannot give money?

What does that mean? All the people being given allocation, what qualification do they have that we don’t have?” Mbaka lamented in the 10-minute video
.

The video was recorded at the ministry’s 2018 harvest and bazaar celebration ahead of the 2019 general elections. Incidentally, it was the same day that Mbaka prophesied that the Peoples Democratic Party would lose the Presidential election because the
Vice-Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, refused to make a donation.

Mbaka, who seemed furious with Buhari, told Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, that he had been victimised for supporting Buhari in 2015 but the President had failed to show appreciation.

The priest also said the Federal Government ought to have taken up the task of refurbishing his church.

He said, “Because of Buhari, I am in this bush. Can’t the Federal Government take this ministry as a project? What would they lose from their pocket? A ministry that will back them spiritually and they will go forward.”

Mbaka added that his members were aggrieved that they were abandoned by the President.

“Our loyalty, our support for Buhari is not debatable but the way he has repaid us is dangerous and cancerous and destructive and can pull any leader down… Several times he would invite me to Abuja. I would stay for one week and come back but nobody would see him,” Mbaka lamented.

The cleric said his church played a major role in bringing Buhari to power, adding that the President ought to have visited his ministry in Enugu.

“If this is a place where things work well, the moment Buhari got to that chair (Presidency), he would come here. What does it cost him? One morning flight and he comes here and thanks the ministry that made him who he is then he can fly back,” the priest said.

Politics / Umahi To Wike: Your Dictatorial Tendencies Will Destroy PDP by ojikeebere12: 7:15am On Nov 19, 2020
Ebonyi State government has described his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike as a dictator whose dictatorial tendencies is destroying the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Umahi was reacting to a statement credited to Wike who said he left the party to the APC because of his desperation to be president of the country.

Umahi spoke on the Arise TV interview program on Wednesday.

He said Wike’s dictatorial tendencies and overbearing influence on the running of the party affairs has made other governors to loath him.

He warned Wike to desist from attacking him as it would be very dangerous if both of them continue attacking each other.

He said: “I refused to join issues with Wike because he is my friend. But Wike must know that he is a dictator. Wike must know that one person cannot be called a crowd. Wike must know that a lot of governors in PDP are not very happy with him. He remote controls the party.”

“He (Wike) said that I made my brother the Vice-Chairman. I fund the PDP southeast from A to Z. And he has forgotten that he singlehandedly made Secondus the Chairman. He has forgotten that he wanted to impose one of his own as minority Leader of the House.

“There is nothing that happens in PDP without his authorization. He once said that PDP National Working Committee members are beggars and bribe-takers. I have asked him that let’s not take on ourselves or else it will be very dangerous.

“So let’s face the party; the party does not belong to him. And this is by no means personal and he is demonstrating the dictatorial tendencies in him by taking on me, a fellow governor. And that is very shameful.”

Umahi warned that unless there is a change in the mode of doing things in PDP from a situation where it is being remote-controlled, then more governors will leave the party.

“APC does more consultation. Anybody can investigate this – that PDP working committee is being remote controlled and that is the truth and it is very dangerous and all the governors know that.”

“You cannot stay in your state and you will be remotely controlling what happens in other states. Unless that changes you will see a lot of governors leaving the party,” he warned.

Umahi also said he is not desperate to be president of the country.

He said he will be a happy man if a President of Southeast extraction is elected in 2023 even if that person is not him.

Politics / Gov Umahi’s Defection Excites Keyamo, Says ‘PDP Deceived South East For 16yrs by ojikeebere12: 4:57am On Nov 18, 2020
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has expressed excitement at news of the defection of Governor Dave Umahi to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Ebonyi State governor was said to have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC after weeks of speculation.

Umahi reportedly said that the South East geo-political zone had suffered injustice from the PDP over the years.

Reacting to the governor’s defection, Kayemo said the PDP did not deserve the loyalty it had received from the South East region.

The minister tweeted on Tuesday: “…the main opposition does not deserve the loyalty of the S/East having failed them in infrastructural development for 16 years. Every lie has an expiry date.”

Politics / Gov David Umahi To Defect To APC This Week by ojikeebere12: 8:59am On Nov 09, 2020
There are strong indications that Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources told The Nation that Umahi may renounce his membership of the PDP, the platform he used twice to win the governorship elections.

The local chapter of the APC was upbeat on Sunday about the governor’s impending defection, describing it as a welcome development.

It was learnt that Umahi is seeking a platform to pursue his future political ambition after the expiration of his second term tenure in 2023.

It is widely believed that the governor has his eyes set on 2023 either as President or vice president.

On October 19, 22 members of the 24-member Ebonyi State House of Assembly gave the leadership of the PDP a seven-day ultimatum to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the Southeast.

A day after, the local chapter of the PDP served a similar notice to the party’s national leadership on the quest of the Southeast to take the next shot at President.

The APC anticipated reception for Umahi was contained in a communique issued yesterday at the end of a stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital.

It (communique) was read by former Ohaozara Local Government Area Chairman Chaka Nweze.

APC Secretary in the state, John Okochi, said he was aware of discussions between Umahi and the party’s leadership in Abuja.

He said: “I am aware that there are talks between the governor and our headquarters in Abuja. But whether the discussions have been concluded or not is what I cannot say. I am however very sure that once that is done, the headquarters will formally communicate the state secretariat notifying us that such a person is coming as a part of us. That will enable us prepare to welcome him formally.”

When asked if it was true that Umahi had registered as an APC member in his ward, he replied: “If he has, I cannot say categorically. That is an issue within the ward or his local government which is Ohaozara. For now, the state secretariat is not aware of that.”

The Commissioner for Information, Uchenna Orji, declined comment on Umahi’s planned defection when contacted.

“We need to really wait till we get to the bridge before we cross. We don’t have to jump the gun. I think it is premature to begin to discuss the issue,” Orji said, adding it was too premature to begin to speculate.

At yesterday’s meeting, the APC expressed its preparedness to work with the governor, who it said deserved support having done his best to lift the state.

The party also said the governor’s imminent defection will boost the Southeast’s chances of producing Nigeria’s next president in 2023.

The APC stakeholders charged the governor to rally other governors in the region to join the party so as to enable the region take its deserved place in the scheme of things in national politics.

Former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works Senator Julius Ali Ucha described Umahi as a big catch for the APC.

Politics / Ekiti APC Members Accuse Fayemi Of Supporting Obaseki In Edo by ojikeebere12: 5:58am On Sep 22, 2020
Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State have alleged that Governor Kayode Fayemi is planning to expel them from the party.

The stakeholders also alleged that the governor supported Godwin Obaseki, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Edo State elections.

Mr Obaseki, who joined the PDP after he was denied the APC ticket, defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC to win Saturday’s governorship election.

The crisis rocking the APC in Ekiti State has been on for several months.

Last week, PREMIUM TIMES reported that the special adviser on political matters to President Muhammadu Buhari, Babafemi Ojudu, and 11 others were summoned to appear before a panel for allegedly disobeying the party’s directive and failure to withdraw cases instituted against the party in court.

In an official reaction to their summon, the affected politicians in a statement signed by Bamgboye Adegoroye, sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, said Mr Fayemi was responsible for their summons.

“A curious process is taking place in the Ekiti State branch of our progressive party. Our governor and the chairman of Nigeria’s Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, after installing the governor of Edo State in a clear case of anti party, is bent on expelling leaders of the party.

“Towards achieving this purpose he (Fayemi) has set up a committee of his adulators to put us on trial in a predetermined process. The committee is chairmanned by one Mr Ajigbolamu who recently left the PDP to join our party. We also know that the affairs of the committee is managed by the office of the Attorney General Mr Wale Fapounda, his anointed for the position of governor when his term is over in 2022.”

The stakeholders also said despite assisting the governor politically, Mr Fayemi has decided to punish them by appointing new executives of the party in a private home in Iyin-Ekiti, which they said violates the constitution of the party.

“We demanded of him the dissolution of this product of illegality and institution of a legitimate executive in compliance with our party’s constitution. We intimated our party leaders of these concerns; the same problem which was present in his first term that led to our losing the state to PDP with ignominy in the year 2014.”

They also accused the governor of hounding them and suspending members, leading them to resort to instituting court cases to protect their rights.

The stakeholders, however, said that they are threatened by the strategy the governor “is trying to employ by setting up a committee to expel us. We, however, insist we shall under no circumstance leave the party to join another. We were members of the party from foundation and also members of ACN, a legacy party that joined with others to form APC. We were in the other progressive parties, AD, AC that existed before and transformed to the present party.”

“We also make bold to say that some of us being threatened with expulsion were responsible for inviting Governor Fayemi in 2005 to come home and run for the governor of our state. We also worked tirelessly for the period of three and a half years it took to get him installed as governor through the court process.”

“Ekiti is a progressive state and this has been right from independence. We shall not sit down and allow one man’s incompetence to turn our state to a PDP state or a state where batons are exchanged between PDP and APC every four years thus depriving it of the necessary stability to ensure its growth. We are therefore calling our national leadership to stop Dr Kayode Fayemi from killing our party in Ekiti. Things are bad enough now for the party in the state.”

“Allowing him to carry out our expulsion will only spell doom for our beloved APC.”

Mr Fayemi’s spokesperson, Yinka Oyebode did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES calls and text messages seeking comments from the governor as regards the expulsion allegations and support for Mr Obaseki levied against him.

The truth is I have done my analysis of Obaseki supporters, 80% of them are what I will refer to as audio voters, social media voters you know, they are very outspoken on social media and from that 80%, about 40-50% of them are basically in diaspora. They don’t have PVC and they are not in Nigeria, so they are not going to vote, they have all the resources to be making the noise, they have all the time, all the free Wi-Fi, to be making all the noise on social media and you think Edo state is an Eldorado and everybody is one way for Obaseki, no. And then, the remaining 30-40% are also what I call internal diaspora. They are not based in Edo state, they are in Lagos, Portharcourt, Abuja.

Politics / Whistleblower, George Uboh Accuses Obaseki Of 'Monumental Fraud' by ojikeebere12: 9:04am On Sep 15, 2020
The chairman of George Uboh Whistleblowers Network [GUWN], Dr. George Uboh has accused the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki of monumental fraud.

Dr. Uboh made the allegation while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2020, at his office in Abuja.

The self-styled foremost whistleblower, during the press conference, stated that he discovered monumental fraudulent transactions of Edo government from the state’s bank statement sent to GUWN by an anonymous whistleblower.

Chairman of George Uboh Whistleblowers Network [GUWN], Dr. George Uboh
The allegation is coming barely five days before the state’s governorship election on September 19.

A transcript of the press conference referred to the Executive Governor of Edo State, reads:

Dear Sir,

48-hour ultimatum to respond to allegations of financial infractions under your watch as Edo State governor

George Uboh Whistleblowers Network (GUWN) is in receipt of bank statements from 2015 to 2019 on to Edo State Government. We are not unmindful of the fact that there is election around the corner-in a few days-in Edo State. As a Civil Society Organization, we are non-partisan. However, for sake of public interest, we analyze any information sent to us from whistleblowers, some anonymous as in the present case. After analyzing the information, we disseminate to the public whose interest we serve.

Nigerians were glued to the TV on August 26, 2015 when our organization took on the EFCC at the Senate based on three boxes of evidence whistleblowers within and outside the EFCC gave us. That Senate hearing in 2015 opened the eyes of Nigerians to the monumental looting at the EFCC which I demonstrated with overwhelming and irrefutable evidence. After I pierced through that thick veil covering the EFCC in 2015, in 2016, Farida Waziri asked Nuhu Ribadu to account to Nigerians the Billions he recovered without documentation; same 2016, former finance minister Adeosun wrote Magu apprising him that she is not in receipt of the recoveries he quoted in the media; in 2018, President Buhari asked the EFCC to account for the last Kobo recovered, but EFCC came out four days stating that the part of their office where recovery documents are kept caught on fire. Of course, there is currently an investigative panel on the EFCC. These are all vindications on our part regarding the EFCC

Thereafter, we have handled numerous cases dealing with corruption within the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary. Recently, we received information on the Vice-President, His Excellency, Professor Yomi Osinbajo from whistleblowers which seemed as if the VP interfered with a criminal investigation. We wrote the VP on August 10, 2020 attaching the evidence in our possession, and gave him 7 days to respond to Nigerians (whose interest he is representing) as to why we should not declare him unfit to be the VP. Same day, the VP responded attaching evidence to show he did not interfere, asking us to let Nigerians know the outcome of our investigations. after analyzing the VP’s response, we exonerated him and issued a statement and video in that regard.

In the instant case, we posit that if the VP, the Number two citizen in Nigeria who is cloaked with immunity can humble himself to respond to us same day we wrote him, we hereby issue His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, a 48-hour ultimatum to respond to our allegations. It should be noted that although we found suspicious transactions in multiple years, however, the suspicious transactions became rampant and egregious in 2019, hence our conclusion that His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki allegedly siphoned funds in preparation for the election.

Findings:

*We found numerous transfers made into 8-digit account numbers running into Billions of Naira;
We found numerous transfers in Billions of Naira from Edo State Government to General-Purpose accounts in different banks, including but not limited to Equatorial Trust Bank (which is not in operation), Access Bank, Sterling Bank etc. Posers: what does general-purpose stand for? Are these funds dissipating from these general-purpose accounts in these banks? The red flag is clear and convincing.

*We found Billions of Naira in transfers to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) without being specific on the particular MDAs. Transfers should not be in bulk figures in Billions of Naira without specifying the MDAs and their respective account numbers.

*We found that Billions of Naira passed through Edo State Government to companies like A&K Construction without specifying the accounts of the companies. in other words, Edo State Government released money to itself, mentioned companies like A&K Construction without mentioning the recipients’ accounts. Without those details, we can conclude that the monies have no destinations.

*We found that Billions of Naira were transferred in numerous tranches without account numbers and account names of the purported recipients.

*We found Billions of Naira debited as Value Added Tax (VAT). This contravenes common sense. VAT should be a credit not debit. Why would you move Billions out and give the narration as VAT? VAT collections are credits not debits.

Billions of Naira released as salary from EDSG without specificity. August 2019 alone, N746,622,765:33 and N693,388,159:31 were moved under the narration salary from EDSG. This is very suspicious, particularly the proximity of the transactions and others above to the election.

Based on the foregoing allegations, we hereby issue you a 48-hr ultimatum to react to the following. Attached please find the requisite bank records. We remain,

Yours in whistleblowing services,

Dr. George Uboh
Chairman, GUWN

Following the press conference, Dr. Uboh gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Obaseki to respond to the allegations or face legal action.

The Eziobe Traditional Council of Igarra in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State has donated the sum of two million Naira to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as part of their support for the APC candidate’s Victory.

Politics / Edo 2020: Why I’m Supporting Ize-Iyamu For Governor – Captain Hosa Okunbo by ojikeebere12: 1:27pm On Sep 06, 2020
Edo State-born billionaire businessman, Capt Hosa Okunbo has said that he is supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state because he has a better vision for the people than the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Okunbo, who narrated his needless running battle with Obaseki to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, said that Edo needs a change of guard to move forward.

He asserted that Obaseki had failed the people and does not deserve another term in office because he has only huge indebtedness and violence to show for his four years in office.

Okunbo stated that he was naturally a peaceful man but lamented that “Obaseki has dragged me from my comfort zone to the market square by attacking my business interest and integrity.”

While defending his choice of Ize-Iyamu, Okunbo said that he had sat down with PDP candidate and “he has showed his vision for the state to me and coincidentally he is a farmer, and has vision for farming

“And he is passionate about it. Obaseki’s said that he was going to farm, but where is the farm? I believe pastor is a man of God and would deliver. What caught my attention and fancy in him is that he said he would farm, which is in line with my passion. I support Ize-Iyamu with my hard-earned sweat and not stolen money. When I believe in something, I can spend my last kobo for that cause.”

Reacting to how he will recoup his money, Okunbo said: “I am not expecting financial return. Edo State is in huge debt, it has been mortgaged. If I dare to ask Ize-Iyamu for a kobo when he is elected, our fight will begin immediately. What I am doing is charity for the future of our children and the state. My ambition is to be able to go back to my people to share what God has blessed me with them.

“I want to also protect the Benin Kingdom which has lasted for centuries, money is not my ambition any more, money is an instrument and will remain so to man. if you say I am bankrolling Ize-Iyamu, so be it,” he said.

Okunbo further said that if Obaseki was re-elected, he would stay away from Benin for the next four years, adding that “I have never lived in Benin.”

According to him, “Ize-Iyamu is known to me for 30 years. He is a testimony that God can turnaround anybody. Since I knew him as a Christian, I have always seen him as a genuine man. Good people should come to our politics, he has a farm where he has been farming and training farmers. I have no reason to doubt him that he means well for the people.”

He continued: “I have never fronted for any politician and anybody in my life. The. Police and even the EFCC have never invited me for once for any fraudulent case.”

Commenting on his opposition to Obaseki’s second term, Okunbo said: “A governor that can not manage 24 members of the House of Assembly from the same party does not deserve re-election. From the inception of his administration, he started complaining that they want to impeach him. What did Obaseki’s do that he was afraid of impeachment from the very beginning. What is all these kill them and pepper them.”

Asked of the chances of the APC’s candidate, Okunbo declared that “Obaseki is not on ground. What you see and hear is mere propaganda. If there is a free and transparent election even today in Edo, Ize-Iyamu will win.”

On whether ego or interest was at stake in the election, Okunbo replied: ” I am a humble person and I have always been, I have no ego but I am concerned about the future of our children and the liberation of Edo State from someone who behaves as an emperor in this modern day.”
