Politics › Re: Names of Military Officials That Invaded Ahmadu Bello’s Home In The “Igbo” Coup by OkCornel(op): 8:01pm On Jan 26, 2025
The million dollar questions are: why were these soldiers who were mostly non-Igbos willing to follow Nzeogwu to eliminate their fellow northerner, rather than shoot down Nzeogwu for treason?

Were they disenchanted with Bello and the corruption of the politicians in the first republic? OR did they hold Nzeogwu in high regard and viewed him as revolutionary? Or a combination of both?

Lemme quicklly set the record straight before they started given wrong narrative. ....

Kaduna. Nzogwu was the soldier who led the team to the Premier Palace, as well as the team's commander. In fact, 80 percent of the names on the list were unaware of the operation to be carried out that day when Kaduna Nzogbwu summoned them for the Zombie Operation. The commander directed them to the Premier Palace on that fateful day for this deadly operation.

Because all of these people might show up.and be saying that it was not just Igbo soldiers that went to the premier palace to kill the premier...this is purely propaganda...those who know the truth..know.Kaduna Nzogniw led this deadly operation with his soldiers. However, the soldiers were unaware of the operation, and they only had to obey Kaduna Nzogbuw, the team's commander....
Excerpts from the Inside Story of Nigeria by Max Siollun

Just imagine, one of the coupists - John Atom Kpera later became military governor of Benue State.

Seems the “Igbo” coup worked out well for him.

The Story of how Ahmadu Kurfi saw Ifeajuna in a meeting with Gen Ironsi in the State house
after PM Balewa was kidnapped early in the morning by the same Ifeajuna is in Ahmadu Kurfi’s Biography

Go and read it

He was a Civil Servant in the Ministry of Defence
that was in Lagos when the Coup Happened and knew many of those killed
Personally he went to the houses of the victims one after the other and
also went to see Gen Ironsi about the missing PM Balewa when he met Ifeajuna and some other
Soldiers in a meeting with Ironsi
Now you understand why Gen Ironsi refused to put the Coup plotters on Trial
He was with them
Ahmed Kurfi never mentioned he saw Ifeajuna and Ironsi together shortly after Balewa was kidnapped.

Paste a link and screenshot of where he said it.

We are waiting.

Well, Nzeogwu was an incorruptible idealist whose detractors never even questioned his motives behind the January 1966 coup.

He was highly respected by the non-Igbo military officers such that he was buried by Gowon and the Nigerian government with full military honours despite fighting for Biafra in the civil war.

Feel free to argue with Nzeogwu and Gowon.

Nzeogwu was no f*cking tribalist.

At the time in question, we had 4 premiers, of whom two were igbos but somehow only the two non-igbos were killed whilst the 2 igbo premiers miraculously escaped. Omo, giv e it up already, the Jan.15th coup was an igbo coup within an igblo coup and the igbos were rightly served their comeuppance by the fulanis. If you were to repeat this same thing today, you will still get the same response..
Read up on Nzeogwu. Ironsi, Azikiwe, Okpara and Nwafor Orizu were marked for elimination.

Nzeogwu held up his part of the bargain up North, while the bumbling fools down south bungled the coup plan.

Yeah, of course, the police report was false and your wilkipedia source is the authentic one.
Ok, so a criminal fled eastwards from Yaba to Enugu by road for over 10 hours to meet with someone who was under house arrest. Then that same criminal proceeded on a longer journey westward by road to Dahomey before he fled to Ghana.

He had the convenience to do this when his fellow coup plotters were either languishing in prison or in hiding.

Excellent logic!

The same Ifeajuna later fled westwards from Enugu to Dahomey (present day Benin republic) by road and later on to Ghana.

[i ]I already told you to stop quoting wilkipedia as a credible source - anybody can put changes to it. Seems, you just gone and search for the info and the best you got was from wilkipedia and you quickly rushed down here to regurgitate the info, therein.

For starters, Banjo was arrested on the 17th of January and not 3 days after Ironsi came to power. Also, is the same book which you lot always love to quote, Major ademoyega claimed that Banjo was not a member of their coup plot but you conveniently stated here earlier, that Banjo was.

After, you were duly challenged, you made a quich dash onto wilkipedia and came up with a new strategy and that was that banjo was arrested because he was defending a yoruba man but don't know who that yoruba man was and then it was because he was trying to kill the new HOS. why can' you stand on a point and stop flip-flopping all over the place. Why was Banjo trying to kill the HOS? What could have been his motive? [/i]

.....and your source, wilkipedia is genuine, huh?

As you can peruse from the text below, the PM was only killed after the coup was supposed to have failed or was ifeajunna just putting a finishing touch to the coupist's' dastardly MO.. Ifeajunna with Okafor in tow then ran back to Okpara, the premier that was, according to you , placed under house arrest, ostensibly to deliver a "mission accomplished" message to him before they went into hiding.

When Major Ifeajuna and party returned to the Federal Guards Officers' Mess he learnt that the GOC was in town and was organizing 2nd Battalion NA at Ikeja to attack the rebels. He was then joined by Major Okafor and they drove off together in Major Ifeajuna's car. At the Yaba Military Hospital they dropped 2/Lt Ezedigbo who had been wounded in the encounter with Brigadier Mai-Malari. The time was about 0400 hrs. Major Ifeajuna drove away on to the Abeokuta road. On the way they stopped and Ifeajuna asked the PM out of the car whence he shot and killed him. When he and Okafor became certain that the PM was dead they left the body in the bush at a point beyond Otta on the Lagos to Abeokuta road. They then opened the boot of the car and dropped the body of Lt. Col. Largema near that of the PM. They then drove on to Abeokuta. On the way after Abeokuta two other soldiers in the car were dropped and told to find their way back to Lagos whilst Ifeajuna and Okafor proceeded to Enugu. They arrived Enugu at about 1415 hours and proceeded to the Premier's Lodge where they held discussion with Dr. MI Okpara, then Premier of Eastern region, after which they separated and went into hiding. Ifeajuna eventually escaped to Ghana where he was received by the former President Kwame Nkrumah who sent him to Winneba to stay with SG Ikoku.

SPECIAL BRANCH REPORT: "Military Rebellion of 15th January 1966"

Forwarded By

Nowamagbe Omoigui

Nowa@prodigy.net
Thanks for this detailed report. Now read this.

Indeed, blood flowed like the River Niger.Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa lost his life, two regional Premiers- Ahmadu Bello and Ladoke Akintola were killed as well as Finance Minister Festus Okotie- Eboh.
Top military officers were also murdered. As leader of the coupists,Ifeajuna even in death, has known no peace.

Driven across the Seme border by Okigbo,he fled to Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana. While in Winneba, the former Gold Coast caught the coup bug. One Lt. Arthur led what became ‘Operation Guitar Boy’. The military later sacked the Osagyefo and Ifeajuna was forced back to his country. The jeremiad began0.
Arrested and confined to Uyo prison,Ifeajuna found himself fighting under Banjo in Biafra. With Ojukwu and Banjo, you could say the officer was home and dry. He was not. Ifeajuna set yet another record. The first to be executed for coup plot. Ifeajuna’s soul has not rested ever since. His achievement in sports has not attracted recognition because he was a double coup plotter.
https://web.archive.org/web/20141011085125/http://newtelegraphonline.com/ifeajuna-jumpers-january-jeremiad/

Now use a bit of logic and common sense to explain why a wanted criminal like Ifeajuna would 👉drive eastwards👈 from Yaba to Enugu for 10 hours and 👉👉later flee westwards👈 to Dahomey and later on to Ghana by road.

Help us make it make sense.

🥱

Three days after Aguiyi-Ironsi came to power, Banjo was summoned to the office of the Supreme Military Commander and was arrested while he was still waiting to see the head of state. Banjo, a Yoruba,[7] attempted to defend a Yoruba officer,[who?] but was arrested by Lieutenant Colonel G. T. Kurubo and Major P. A. Anwuna and imprisoned by General Aguiyi-Ironsi. He was accused of planning to kill the head of state. Banjo proclaimed his innocence, but was denied a trial. It is suspected[by whom?] that Banjo was detained because it was thought that he had a hand in the 1966 coup.

If the igbos, as you clearly opined above, constituted about 66% of the middle ranking officers in the army prior to the coup THEN, most of the coup plotters would be of igbo origins and so too would be the victims unless of course, the igbo coup plotters chose to protect their brethrens.

Also, the goverment that the coupists claimed was corrupt and undemocratic had igbo politicians making up about 70% of the number YET not a single one of them was deemed worthy of the coupist's bullets- they were placed under house arrest. shocked Omo, una go explain, tire.
