Liverpool’s James Milner is confident his side can beat Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, saying the Premier League club’s style of play can cause the Spanish champions problems.

Liverpool, who comfortably eased past Porto to reach the semi-finals, will travel to the Nou Camp for the first leg on May 1 with the return leg at Anfield a week later on May 7.

“We can beat Barca but we know it will be very tough,” Milner told reporters.

The Joing Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday explained why it had not released the results of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

JAMB’s Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the board discovered that some candidates who wrote the examination engaged in massive fraud and impersonation, putting their results in doubt.

Benjamin stated this in an interview in Abuja, on Wednesday.

He said the board had started screening the results of all the candidates who wrote the examination and would release them as soon as it finished the exercise.

Benjamin said: “We will not release the results in a hurry. We will do a lot of crosschecking and matchmaking to be sure that nobody that was engaged in illicit act go scot free.

“We will release the results as soon as we finish checking the results to ensure that all those ones that we caught in various illicit registration acts are properly dealt with and those that we could not arrest are withheld.

“We will release the results when we finish doing our screening. We are screening the whole results.

The 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) ended today, Wednesday, April 17.

Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Media and Publicity for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Tuesday disclosed that as of April 13, over 1.2 million have successfully written the examination.

Over 1.8 million candidates are expected to sit for the board’s UTME that commenced nationwide on April 11.

Benjamin also insisted that no result had been released yet.
He explained that the board was still screening the results as the examination was ongoing and also because more fraudulent activities were being identified in the process.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced nationwide recruitment into the service for the year 2019.

The Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Department, Umar Sanusi, had disclosed that 800 applicants would be recruited to fill vacancies in the Support Staff for Superintendent Cadre Category and that 2,400 would fill that of Customs Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadre in the General Duty Categories.

The portal www.vacancy.customs.gov.ng has opened for 3,200 Nigerians to be recruited during the exercise.

Another Five Mosques Attacked In Birmingham
Five mosques in the English city of Birmingham were attacked overnight, police said on Thursday in the latest spate of Islamophobic incidents.

This follows the murder of 50 people by a right-wing extremist at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

West Midlands Police said detectives and counter-terrorism officers were investigating after windows were smashed at the mosques in Birmingham, NAN reports.

Officers responded after reports of a man was seen smashing windows with a sledgehammer at one mosque, the police said.

“What is going on in our country? We are listing into a dark place,’’ tweeted TellMAMA, a group monitoring anti-Muslim incidents.

The group said it had seen an increase in reports of Islamophobia since the Christchurch murders, citing seven other incidents across Britain.

“Attacks on five mosques in Birmingham show, once again, that Muslims are having to bear the brunt of the absolute hatred and bigotry of others,’’ Iman Abou Atta, TellMAMA’s director, said in a statement.

Supplementary Guber Elections: I Won’t Interfere In INEC’s Job – Buhari Tells APC
The Presidency has cautioned against the spewing of hate, incitement to violence and polarizing statements by some political leaders as some states brace up for supplementary elections prescribed by the National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The Presidency also rejected criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s apparent disinterest in the upcoming elections in some states by party members who wrongfully assume that the President will abuse power by changing results to favour them.

Buhari’s position was contained in a statement to DAILY POST on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

It added that “Past Presidents of Nigeria were known to interfere in inconclusive elections, and that is why party members appear to be upset that the same thing is not happening now, but President Buhari is a different kind of leader.

“He swore to defend the constitution and will not veer off from that.

“The constitution of Nigeria gives the President no such powers. It is unfair and ridiculous to criticise President Buhari for not going against the constitution.
