That's also why the Nigerian Copyright Commission is there.
2) Are you saying that a person cannot get redress when his rights have been infringed? That's also false because I've given you examples of people who have gone to court to enforce their rights (Rex Jim Lawson's family, etc).
3) Are you saying that plagiarism only happens in Nigeria? That's also false. I've given you examples of plagiarism in other countries (Robin Thicke, Solomon Linda, etc).
There are plagiarists everywhere that would like to illegally exploit a person's works. It's up to the rights holder to go to court to enforce his rights. Pharrell and Robin Thicke did not want to admit that they plagiarised Marvin Gaye's work, but his family went to court and the court compelled Thicke and Williams to pay Marvin Gaye's family and acknowledge that he is the owner of the work.
4) Are you saying that all remixes and cover versions are bad? That's also not true. The original owner of the copyright work reaps a lot of benefits when his work is covered. He earns royalties and it brings his work to a new generation that might not have heard of it before. That's why you can see that in many cases the original owner is featured in the cover version (eg, Adewale Ayuba and Jazzman, Victor Olaiya and 2face) and that in some cases the work is covered by children of the original owner (eg Paul Dairo and I.K. Dairo).
So what is your point?
oh my friend there is! And believe me when i tell there is but u and i know that nigeria is a lawless country with laws,my issue is that it is not regarded as a law,am talking from experience
naptu2: This is not really true. There are copyright laws in Nigeria and that's also why the Nigerian Copyright Commission exists. Artists try to copy other artist's work without permmission all over the world, but they get into serious trouble when they are discovered. I'll give you two examples (one from Nigeria and one from outside Nigeria).
Feladey got into trouble when he covered Rex Jim Lawson's songs without permission in the 1990s. Rex Jim Lawson's family sued him, but the case was eventually settled out of court.
Robin Thicke and Pharrel Williams recently got into trouble when they sampled Marvin Gaye's song, "Got To Give It Up" (one of my favourite songs) for their song "Blurred Lines". Marvin Gaye's family sued them and they had to pay millions of dollars to Gaye's family and include Marvin Gaye's name in the album credits.
Covering a song legally is not a bad thing. It brings the song to a new generation and also gives money to the writer of the song. Some retired musicians depend on this money. For example, Snoop Dogg often sampled his uncle Charlie Wilson's (of the Gap Band) song and this meant that Charlie Wilson got paid even though he had retired and was fighting alcoholism.
Paul "Play" Dairo covered his father, I.K. Dairo's songs and this made the songs known to a new generation. Natalie Cole covered her father, Nat King Cole's songs and this brought it to a new generation.
Song writers hold copy rights over their songs for the duration of their life and 50 years after they are dead (it's 70 years in some jurisdictions). It's basically their pension. Disney had to pay the family of the South African guy that wrote "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (Solomon Linda), despite the fact that he had been dead for many years before The Lion King was made (he wrote the song in the 1930s).
oga thank u for the lecture but am talking about this from experience.if u check since the revolution of nigerian music(2000-till date) and tell, and u do know what happen between The Artist SUNNY BOBO and the work he copied from Peacock band international?.and am telling u that the original writers and owners don't even get paid as at now.i can add other examples if need b

contactmorak: Amazing. Well it may intterest you to know that Oliver Decoque's son, Safin Decoque who is a hiphop artiste in 2014 did a remix of his father's hit Biri kam Biri. The remix here audion here...http://notjustok.com/wp-content/ uploads/2014/06/Safin-De-Coque-Biri-Ka- Mbiri.mp3
Also note that Salawa Abeni's son Big Sheff also remixed his mom's evergreen hit 'Gentle Lady' in whch he featured her. Watch one of their performances here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMYO8wSkh18
thanks for letting me know, before i thought oliver's song were unaldulterable becos of it uniqueness and pure multiply instrument, couple with his verstility in sing and handling the lead guiter
Excuzeme: Abeg Parkwell joor! Naptu did not say he has exhausted on Remixes in the musical space of Nigeria, ...did he?
Even in LA, they do remix over and over again....... the only thing is you take permission from the copyright owner before you do it.
but after many years and some songs have become "public songs", you can even do the remix without permission (I think there is a certain number of years when copyright/ becomes obsolete.
A song has to be "Up there" ... before anyone can even think of doing a remix of it because its the old version that sells the remix, at first release.
@Naptu: Respects! Keep it coming Pls.
What we did with that "Raise-da-Ruff by Jazzman Olofin" ehn? only God can forgive Boys in those days At the University. The base guitar and tune was from the "party Anthem" of the late 70s' early 80's - "Set it off".
Even if you dont like to dance, one the Record hits the turntable and the Big Kenwood Speaker, backed by a Binatone Amplifier and Reverbrator churns out that tune, Abeg, you will just find your self floating, so to speak. Many a Boys got banned from school because something went wrong at the "Lit Party"!
There is these guys from St Gregory's college back then (77 - 81), not sure but l think their name is Ofege? Any clues on them?
oga am not saying that the op has done something bad to enlighten us,rather oga what i want u to understand that whatever place u used in citing the issue of nigerian artist and copying,is that place,it is not nigeria, becos in nigeria the dont obey it talkless of seeking for permission to photocopy another man's hardwork, and pls if he can get any song by the named artists which i have mention i would love to know.we all learn, but i don't think another has done that remix with there song especially oliver de coque that guy is simply classical
What seem funny about all this remix u posted here is that the ones remixed by current artist is that none of the work of oliver de coque, bright chimezie and morroco been remix becos those guys to me r classicals,AND TALKIN ABOUT REMIX if nigeria is a lawful country most of this artist will b facing law suit
I have been saying this and i will continue to say it ''IMO PEOPLE r among the most gullible people in nigeria'',FOOLS DON'T LEARN and where is that abagworo of a guy? who claim all the claimable.ALTHOUGH AM FROM IMO STATE but i have to say this jux the begining and everybody have to barce up to what coming this 2016
All those example the man gave had a similar chain of events that led to the visit of men of God to the rulers, and the events r not positive rather negative,if God and equally the devil know what evils lay on money and fame, hence the devil tempted Jesus with it and God used it as medium of assessment for Job.BUT TELL ME Y DO THE SO CALLED MEN OF GOD THESE DAYZ R AFTER POWER,MONEY AND FAME?
AND THE BLAME GAME GOES ON....so aisha buhari can speak to nigerian on facts/issue we suppose to hear from her husband, while her husband speaks only to us when he goes on tour....so much for a change
Oga how were u paid for all this...becos i remember correctly that this singing of song started exactly when Emeka ihedioha accused him of using 600 million for this white elephant project, and has he paid his debt owed to workers both working and retired ones?
tola9ja: the thing feat baba pass all igbo leaders
thats the beauty of the cloth,it can turn an imp to a gaint,a devil to a saint,it can even turn u to prince charming of that girl u been the pursue since 5 yrs,#NA JOKE I D JOKE OH#
@andychukse, oga if u meet guymen u go know say that agreement on who is to repair the keke is null and void, but all rest on trust like u say and application of carrot and stick method becos if u use stick and leave the carrot,u might regret it
andychukse: You have to get someone trustworthy to start with, then write an agreement on terms, which both of you will sign.
He should present two sureties that are well respected.
The agreement should cover all terms and conditions: - Who repairs the keke when it spoils? - Do you get daily, weekly or monthly returns (I advised daily or weekly) - How much is the returns? - What happens when he defaults on returns.
Note: It is not easy, to get the best you have to stamp your authority and will be seen as ruthless.
oga if u meet guymen u go know say that agreement on who is to repair the keke is null and void, but all rest on trust like u say and application of carrot and stick method becos if u use stick and leave the carrot,u might regret it
Ymodulus: This business is an interesting one I must confess. However to go into it there are 3 principles which must be settled.
1. Location 2. Method of Remmitance 3. New or second Hand Keke
1. New or second Hand Keke. Which is best ? I will advice you that if you want to go into the keke Napep business please get second Hand Keke Napeps not New one. Believe me it's best to buy something new good. But getting a good second Hand Keke Napeps is around 110 - 140k and the person will pay you double.
In Lagos you can easily make your money in 2 months 1week ( exact time frame my friend used to get hers back ).
There are good keke Napeps second hands. Once more go for good second hand and not new ones. Many may decieve you that new are best, yes they are good am not disputing this. But me and you need sharp good fast money then second hand is the way.
2. Method of Remittance The period of complete returns on a keke depends on two things : 1. the status of the Keke at time of purchase ( I.e New or second hand ) 2. Does your driver work on Saturdays and Sundays ? ( Some people set any return from those days mostly Sunday as maintenance money. Some don't ) 3. Agreed fee of return by driver.
There are generally two ways of paying a keke Driver. 1. Hire purchase 2. Daily Balance
I believe the two need no explanation just little extra tips. I will never advice you to give your keke napep based on returns of Daily Balance. It's a No no. So help you whatever you believe in.
In transportation business drivers can be A pain in the house, don't even trust your brother and Lagos for that reason my brother you have to be wary. Hire purchase is the best. In the North , Higher Purchase is what is mostly done and in the South East mostly daily Balance.
Daily return vary according to 1. Your state or Location 2. Status of Keke Napepe ( new or old )
In Niger , Katsina for example daily returns are N2000 and N3000 respectively for a new keke napep. And for second hand it is based on negotiation. But in Niger it is roughly N1500-1700/1800.
Note all the price can be subject to negotiation. However am giving you standard normal price.
In Lagos it is N4000 - N4500 ( for those plying Computer Village route ). Note don't let anyone decieve you for the poster know what he his saying.
Now on the amount to return. There are two ways of paying back Hire Purchase.
1. Negotiated ( you and driver agrees that you bought keke marwa for say N400 and he will pay N700 ) 2. Standard ( pay x2 the price. Takes place mostly in North and for second hand marwa ).
Note: payment on hire purchase is all based on negotiations.
3. Brand of Keke Napep to Buy I can only speak for Kaduna, Kano, Kastina and Niger. TVS keke Napep is the best type, the parts are readily available and cheap. Also cost efficient.
4. Import a New Keke or Buy Here in Nigeria
If you have the know how to import, I will advice you import keke Napeps. Keke napeps are produced in India. But you can get from china wholesalers wholesalers.
Keke Napeps spare parts are produced by Chinese and are more cheaper. Most importers import the spare part from china. In fact All keke spare parts are Chinese, Chinese sell the clone cheap better than India.
22Keke Napep will make 1 20ft Container. It cost approximately 98k to bring in on the average per one ( tax and government expenses + custom clearance + cost of getting form m and all).
Note: there are cheaper ways to bring in keke napep far way cheaper than what Nigerian wholesalers sell.
I can show you ways to bring in keke napeps at flat rate of 35k per piece. It's possible. Everything is legal.
The keke business is a sweet business if you know your way and I advice students to run this type of business.
Below is a second hand keke Napep I got some time back.
5. Cost of New Keke Napep 1. TVS ( N420,000 ) ** I imported this myself 11pcs but I got it way cheaper and sold back at N375k there around . if you know custom you know your way ** 2. Michindra (435,000) as at Last Month November
Note! The above price is obtainable in Niger, Kaduna Kano wholesalers.
In Lagos, TVS is now 440K, Azubike Tricycles ( he sight dollar rate as reason for hike.)
5. Cost of Second Hand Keke Napep You can get good grade 1 brand at N140,000 or N150,000. But the general rate is N110-150,000 ( For good ones in good conditions ).
Thanks Ymodulus
oga u have said it all but on ma own advice is for him not u buy the keke on second hand basis expect if it is bajaj re 145 but as i know that model has gone on extint, but everything rest the location, here in the east nobody can comfortably ride that second hand
Oga as u have the money ur major problem is finding a good person who can ride it and it equally render account in due time so therefore u have to follow this procedure:1. Don't ever give ur keke to a married man with responsibities to avoid stories that touches the heart.2.Don't ever give ur keke to someone who has plied in keke business and worse comes to worse and i must b the one and do some background check on the previous keke he engaged in to ascertain how he handled it and what came out of it.3.take him or the driver to the place that it is been sold and let him choose but on ma advice i will advice u to buy TVS or PIAGGIO and not bajaj, becos of their durability.and make it hire purchase and not daliy pay,to avoid had i known.other advice is something i can't say here
AlaniPamoleKun: I want to buy keke napep and give it to an individual to ride it and deliver money to me by the end of the day, though I'm kind of new in this line of business.
Y'all advises and suggestions will be highly appreciated
Thank you
oga i will contribute when am chanced becos i jux rounded that business sometime ago so that will b from experience,so bear with me
What did they expect wen they voted him into the seat, from his first tenure i know the man is a fraud....and i use this medium to also tell people that have the mindset of if politician don't perform we vote them out, that this is nigeria....THE BIGGEST FOOL IS NOT THE UNEDUCATED FOOL BUT THE EDUCATED ONE.
Oga I have a personal code of honour whenever i argue which is I DONT ABUSE PEOPLE AND I DON'T STAND ABSUSIVE PEOPLE,which is what u r doing now.i jux dont have that time with u becos i believe we argue to learn and not to establish supremacy.BUT i promise to come by to our discussion if u can come up with the facts i request for
Abagworo: I know your type and I met them in Owerri. They see no good in all the good developments and most of them are not hardworking. My friends in Owerri took me to their various housing projects and I was proud that Owerri is developing rapidly and the indigenes are doing well. These poor lazy ones keep thinking every new house is owned by Rochas and his family including mine and I don't even know Rochas.

Abagworo: Jpros was a scam aided by FG to defraud Imo because Okorocha was in a hurry to deliver. Did he even construct any road?
can u establish that fact?.and if i might ask u who signed the contract?do u know that one of the directors of that company worked for the governor even after that scandal?pls oga i still have to tell u this if u r not coverstant with whats happening in imo state pls keep calm, becos as i noticed u reside in port harcourt and i don't comment often about affairs of other state becos i don't have all information when measured with people studying the situation on ground
And both the one that caused the scandal that led to the imo deputy governor?.or u r trying to tell me that jpros is an indingious construction company?
Abagworo: Nigerians disregard black men a lot. They value German companies more than indigenous ones but still expect us to grow as a nation. It is only true long term trial that we can perfect indigenous road construction technology.
However our indigenous contractors like to cut corners a lot thereby delivering roads below acceptable standards. All of those roads Okorocha is being condemned for were handled by indigenous contractors.
Abagworo: You made it a point of duty not to see any good. Now that Umuapu-Omerelu road is under construction would you commend Okorocha or still find reasons to condemn him?
oga stop shifting the Goalpost we r not talking about FG presence but the flyover.here is ma question to u do u think that if not for his house that is located along there would he have resumed the project?.and do u know that during his campaign in 2011 he called for it pulled down on the basis that the rod that is been used by then the contractor is of substandard quality?

U jux took the word out of ma mouth don't mind people that is not conversant with the state politics to wallow in their shortsightness
Joyi: Rochas no get shame at all. he tot people is not aware how is milking the state dry. Ohakim started this project which he abandoned for over 4 years. he is doing it now because it leads to his new house.
Oga r u from imo state?or do u reside in the state? if u r from and u said that peoples view is not good posterity will judge u and if not pls know all facts b4 u talk
HungerBAD: And yet some will come here to insult him.
Later more will show up to call him Okorochausa.
Then some will say he is an Hausa man, and a thief.
Pictures don't lie, so my advice?keep developing your State very quietly. Keep putting your detractors to shame, with infrastructural developments, security and hope for the common man.
In my mother's voice " YOUR GOOD NO GO KILL YOU"

Through your hard work, the people of Imo and the East will now see a reason to cross over to the APC.
